Gold, Silver and Crystal Breeding: Breeding Compatibility |

You've probably noticed that not all Pokémon can reed, however some unusual combinations are possible. You can't breed a Primeape with a Machamp, but you can breed a Delibird with a Blastoise. Why is this? It's because all Pokémon fall into sixteen different breeding categories. Underneath is a guide to all the groups.

Group X

EXPLANATION: These Pokémon cannot be bred with anything.

Pokémon in this group: Nidorina, Nidoqueen, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, Unown, Tyrogue, Smoochum, Elekid, Magby, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-oh and Celebi.

GROUP 1

EXPLANATION: These are the plant Pokémon. You can breed any two members of this group to get a baby of the female. For example, you can breed a Chikorita and an Oddish, two Jumpluff, a Sunkern and a Sunflora etc. You can also breed all of them with a Ditto to get a "clone" of that Pokémon.

EXPLANATION: The Bug group Pokémon. These can be all be bred with any members of the same group. They can also be bred with a Ditto. You'll notice Paras and Parasect are in both groups - 1 and 2. This is because they can breed with members of both groups. You'll also notice Gligar here - a Flying/Ground Pokémon. It doesn't matter - Gligar can only be bred with Bug types.

Pokémon in this group: Magnemite, Magneton, Voltorb, Electrode, Staryu, Starmie, Porygon and Porygon2.

GROUP 15

If you have a male Pokémon and want to breed another, youd have to use Ditto. For example, if Bill gives you a male Eevee, the only way to get another is by breeding it with a Ditto. The only way to get more Tyrogues is by breeding one of the Hitmons with a Ditto. The only way to get another Tauros through breeding is by breeding with a Ditto.

Pokémon in this group: Ditto.
