Frequently Asked Questions

In this section, I planned on answering frequently asked questions about Gold/Silver. However, very few questions were asked "frequently". Therefore Ive decided to answer every question e-mailed to me - be it about Pokemon GS or not. I haven't attributed names to any of the questions to protect identities. If you have any questions, e-mail me at iceduck@hotmail.com. Please realise that I have very little patience with stupid questions, e-mails WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS or questions that have already been answered. Such e-mails will be dealt with accordingly (i.e. deleted, and possibly printed to show my friends who could do with a good laugh).

How can I get another Tyrogue?

Once your first Tyrogue evolves, breed it with a Ditto. Tyrogue itself can't breed - it must evolve first. You have to breed it with a Ditto because all members of the Tyrogue family are male (the egg will be the same species as the mother unless you breed it with a Ditto).

Where do I get the Master Ball?

Once you beat all 8 gyms in Johto, Professor Elm will give you a Master Ball. You can also win a Master Ball on the Lucky Number Show, but it's very rare - only a 1 in 65,536 chance of getting it on any one day.

How do I get a Slowking? I've tried trading a Slowbro with a Kings Rock, but it won't evolve.

That's because Slowpoke evolves when you trade it with a Kings Rock.

How many RBY Pokemon now have pre-evolutions?

Seven. Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Jynx, Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan, Magmar and Electabuzz.

How can I capture a Pikablu?

Sigh. You can't. You bloody can't. You can tamper with your GameShark as much as you want, the day you catch a Pikablu will be the day I win the lottery without buying a ticket. See the next question for more information.

Where can I catch a Marill? I've tried fishing and surfing in Mt Mortar 1F, but I can't find one. Please help!

You don't find Marill by surfing or fishing. You'll find it in the wild in Mt. Mortar in the morning. If you register Hiker Parry's phone number (he's on Route 45), he'll phone you if he sees some. It's much easier to catch in Crystal, though, so if you've got it, try getting it there. No need to mess with phonecalls. Oh, and don't forget to nickname it 'Pikablu'!

My friend says theres a way to see Pokemon in Zelda 64 - how do I do this?

Play Pokemon for 48 hours straight and drink a lot of alcohol. You'll then be seeing Pokemon anywhere you want.

My Smoochum is very happy but won't evolve. Why not?

Because it doesn't evolve by happiness. It evolves at level 30.

What moves does Slowking learn? Is he better than Slowbro?

People reading this - DON'T make a habit of asking me for move lists because it takes a lot of effort to get them. But just this once, Slowking will learn Curse, Tackle, Growl, Water Gun, Confusion, Disable, Headbutt, Swagger and Psychic. Slowbro will not learn Swagger - instead it will learn Amnesia and Withdraw. You can breed these moves to a Slowpoke before evolving, but it's not really worth the effort. As to who's the best, Slowking's Special Defense is much better than Slowbro's, but Slowbro doesn't have any distinct advantages. The main disadvantage is that you can't get more than one Kings Rock easily.

1. How many Unowns are there?
2. Is there a Mail with Eevees on it?
3. Is there Mail with Psyduck on it?
4. What does the Brick Piece and Metal Powder do?

Hi. Glad you like the site.

1. There are 26 Unown so far, one for each letter of the alphabet (hence Ruins of Alph). You need 26 to unlock the scientists secret.
2. There is a Mail with Eevees on it - the Eon Mail, which you can get with Mystery Gift. See the next answer for an alternative.
3. There isn't an official Psyduck Mail, but if you buy Portrait Mail from Mt. Moon and attach it to a Psyduck, it will be a Psyduck design.
4. The Brick Piece doesn't do anything - just sell it for extra cash. If you attach the Metal Powder to a Ditto, it will improve its defence. If anyone is wondering, you get a Brick Piece by trading a Machop from RBY and Metal Powder by trading a Ditto from RBY.

Is Girafarig a Psychic/Dark type?

No. It's a Psychic/Normal type.

Are there Pokemon in GS named Psythor or Iceduck?

No - Psythor's nickname is a play on Scyther and my nickname is what I nicknamed my Golduck on Pokemon Blue.

Your gay for liking Pokemon. I can't believe you'd waste your time making a site for it. Its just a fad - get over it. If you don't have anything better to do, I suggest you don't write back.

Ok..."you're" means "you are", "your" means it in the sense that you own something. I can't believe you'd waste your time going to sites about something you don't like and actually e-mail said site. Its just a game/card game/TV show - get over it. If you like any of the following "fads", I suggest you don't write again; wrestling, Limp Bizkit/Eminem, Final Fantasy games or Zelda games. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with these things - in fact I love the Zelda games, and I'm sure I'd like Final Fantasy if I ever played it - but they were all considered "fads".

I can't find Ho-oh! I've been looking in Mt Silver for ages, and all I've found is [CENSORED - POSSIBLE SPOILER].

Ho-oh isn't in Mt. Silver - there aren't any one-of-a-kind Pokemon there. Ho-oh is at the top of Tin Tower in Ecruteak City (you'll need the Gold Wing). And before you ask, Lugia is in the Whirl Islands (you'll need the Silver Wing).
