Red, Blue and Yellow Walkthrough: Part 4 |

Mt Moon

This place consists of two floors, connected by paths. I'll go over them in the order in which you meet them, first the top floor, then (quickly) the paths, and then the lower floor. The paths are counted in the order in which you meet them.

The inside of Mount Moon

There's four new Pokemon to be found here. Zubat will be very annoying while getting through the cave, however, it's close to useless when you try to use it on your team. You've already encountered Geodude when fighting Brock, and it shouldn't be too hard to defeat for you using the earlier strategies. It can also be a good asset to your team until the end of the game. Paras doesn't look too impressive, but gets Spore, the 100% accurate sleep move. Clefairy has an excellent TM compatibility, and can become a pretty good Pokemon later on. Catch two of them in Yellow, too, because you can trade it for a different Pokemon later on during the game.

The trainers you encounter here shouldn't be too difficult to defeat. You'll face two new kinds of trainers, the Super Nerds and the Hikers. The Voltorb and Magnemite are electric types, but they are pretty weak overall anyway. You won't have much to use against the grass types from the second Lass yet, so use a Pokemon that isn't easily hurt by grass-moves. Get the items - to the left is the TM12, Water Gun, and if you look to the right, you'll find a Rare Candy and an Escape Rope. Following the path, you'll also get to an elusive Moon Stone, which evolves Jigglypuff, Clefairy, Nidorina en Nidorino. Save it for now.

Nothing interesting here, really, just go down the three paths to reach another part of the basement floor.

Now, you will meet Team Rocket for the first time. Apparently, they want to steal fossils here to ressurect ancient Pokemon. And of course, we're going to stop them! Good thing they're so easy to defeat. After following the first path, and beating the Rocket there, pick up the HP UP. After following the next, pick up TM01 (Mega Punch) and face the lone rock to get Ether. After following the first path, follow the whole circle, defeating one or two rockets. Before facing the Super Nerd, go down in the one tile wide passage before the plateau he is standing on. At the end, you will find a moon stone.

After defeating the Super Nerd, you must make a choice. Much later on in the game, you can revive these fossils to get yourself an ancient Pokemon, however, you can only choose one of the two. The Dome Fossil gives you a Kabuto, while the Helix Fossil will give you an Omanyte. It doesn't matter that much which of the two you choose. After that, follow the path to the exit. Before you can leave, however, you are challenged by Jessie and James. Their Pokemon are easy to defeat, so don't worry too much about it. After that, exit Mt Moon.

This is a short route with no trainers. Pick up TM04, and then jump down the ledge. Remember that when you jump down, you can't go back for a while. Get an Ekans or Sandshrew here, depending on your version, and go on to Cerulean City.
