The Dunsparce Deception
French Title
La poursuite infernale
As the group continue on their way to Olivine City, they find a boyhunting in the long grass with a net. He's trying to find a wild Dunsparce, using a Caterpie.

They introduce themselves - the boy's named Bucky. Nearby, a group of kids call Bucky. They all have Dunsparce, and are on their way to the park to play with them.

At the park, the kids talk about nothing but Dunsparce. Bucky reveals that he went to visit his grandfather when he was ill. When his grandfather got better, Bucky returned to find that a swarm of Dunsparce had appeared nearby, and now everyone had caught one except for him.

The kids decide to race their Dunsparce, and let Bucky compete using his Caterpie. Whereas the Dunsparce can handle the obstacles with ease, caterpie struggles over each one.

Nearby, Team Rocket are plotting to capture Pikachu, but are tempted by the hoard of Dunsparce.

A boy called Timothy tells Bucky to hurry Caterpie up, and Caterpie falls from a slide, and Bucky decides to head home. A girl tells Timothy off. Ash, Brock and Misty offer to help him catch a Dunsparce. They release Chickorita, Totodile, Noctowl, Poliwhirl and Golbat, and the gang instruct them to search. Misty points out that luck and dedication can help Bucky capture a lot of different Pokémon.

Suddenly, Pikachu and Togepi find a Dunsparce burrowing underground. Ash suggests that they dig it out, but suddenly, Team Rocket drop a net on Pikachu, Togepi, Chickorita and Totodile. Chickorita's Razor Leaf fails to cut the net, but Cyndaqil's Flamethrower burns it easily. Poliwhirl and Cyndaquil easily take care of their balloon, but as the trio blasts off, Meowth realises that they've managed to get hold of a Dunsparce.

Team Rocket decide that the boss won't care for one Dunsparce, so they plot to kidnap the kids' Dunsparce. They put on a show about a Dunsparce fighting a Moltres - Mewoth and James in costume - to attract the kids. Though the show is unsuccessful, they offer to trade everyone a Moltres for their Dunsparce - and everyone rushes to accept the offer.

Bucky and the gang have failed to capture a Dunsparce, but Bucky's still determined. They come across Timothy and the kids, who are all crying. He explains that they were tricked into trading their Dunsparce for fake Poké Balls. They describe Team Rocket, and a girl reveals that she still has her Dunsparce, since she didn't want to trade it.

Elsewhere, Team Rocket are having trouble. James opened the Poké Balls to check the Dunsparce, and they all escaped. They search the area, and are unable to catch them. Ash, Brock and Misty arrive, and battle for the Dunsparce. Wobbuffet counters care of Totodile's Water Gun, but with Poliwhirl's help, they take Wobbuffet down. James releases Victreebel, without much effect, and the kids arrive to reclaim their Dunsparce. They battle against Arbok, using their Glare attack, and finish with a Take Down.

Suddenly, the wild Dunsparce that Team Rocket had found surfaces. Bucky orders Caterpie to weaken it with String Shot and Tackle, and finally catches it. Finally, the group bids the kids a farewell, and continue on their journey.
