Just Add Water
Ash is enthusiastic about being able to enter the Silver Conference, but Misty wants to take a rest first. Brock then notices a cave and wonders aloud if it leads to the ocean. This causes Misty to forget all about being tired and she then declares that the last one there’s a rotten egg. Pokémon! No time to question my moves…

It turns out that Brock was right and Misty decides to let her pokémon out before moving on. Politoed at first does nothing but clap, but then Misty asks it if it wants to take a swim and Politoed goes into the water. Psyduck tries to get in the water, but freaks out when a wave hits it.

They come upon a sign that advertises a pokémon synchronized swimming show. This time it’s Brock’s turn to be enthusiastic as he imagines several pretty girls in bathing suites and sprints off before Ash and Misty have time to try and follow him.

They eventually get to a boy who is selling tickets and he says that they’re just in time, as the show is about to begin. They admire the size of the stadium before entering.

Oddly enough, they’re the only ones there, but that doesn’t seem to bother anyone as Brock is still in dreamland and Ash wonders aloud if it will be like the show in Cerulean City. Brock then begins to daydream about Misty’s sisters and Misty gets a bit annoyed (though not as much as one might expect). The pokémon start to perform and Brock gets somewhat impatient about the lack of girls. A pair of legs then comes up and Brock says that something is wrong. The person is then revealed to be not a girl, but a man, and Brock starts crying that it isn’t right. Ash and Misty are both admiring the show and Misty tells Brock that he should watch, but to no avail.

JessieCo are admiring the pokémon and Meowth imagines yet another scene with Giovanni. He imagines Giovanni waking up every morning for a swim with all the water pokémon and being very happy. He also imagines Giovanni sunbathing with them and declaring that he is very happy with JessieCo’s work.

Brock complains to the man that he was disappointed by the lack of bikini-clad women, taking him aback somewhat, but Misty saves him by saying that she loved the show. The man introduces himself as Dorian, the Coastline Gym Leader and Ash and Misty comment that they’ve never heard of the Coastline Gym. Dorian isn’t too surprised but offers to take them on a tour. Dorian first takes them to a place where they can view the pool underwater. AshCo are surprised to see pictures of Misty’s sisters on the wall and Dorian is surprised to learn that they know them, as Daisy, Lily, and Violet are his idols. He wants his gym to be just like theirs, but for now it’s not an official gym. Misty then asks if her sisters mentioned a younger sister. At first Dorian doesn’t remember them saying anything, but with a little more probing from Misty he remembers them mentioning that they had a younger sister. He says that they said that she was an out-of-control crybaby and a loser. Misty gets really annoyed and says that she is more talented and beautiful than any of them. Dorian is a bit surprised to learn that she is the loser they were referring to, but he still thinks that Lily is the prettiest and best of the four. Brock disagrees and Misty then bites his head off. She also says that she loves water pokémon better than anyone and Dorian gets a little competitive over this. Misty challenges him to a battle and he accepts.

Jessie is enjoying traveling by submarine, mainly because she isn’t the one who’s doing all of the work. Meowth tells her that she should help more, but James warns him not to “knock her off her pedestal”. The submarine then crashes, causing them all to fall off their places. James takes a look outside and discovers that they’re being attacked by several water pokémon. James isn’t worried because the sub is very sturdy. Unfortunately, his good mood doesn’t last, as the sub springs a leak and the Rockets, “are sinking down again”.

Dorian is showing off his underwater battlefield when AshCo notice JessieCo’s submarine. Ash threatens them not to steal the water pokémon and Jessie and Meowth get angry with him. James, however, says that they can’t steal at the moment because their sub’s broken. Ash sends out Totodile anyway and uses water gun. Dorian uses his mantine’s bubblebeam and the JessieCo get blasted off again with Mantine and Totodile’s water gun. They then turn their attention back to the battle. Ash wants to battle Dorian first. Misty gets mad at him, but she allows him to battle, as she knows there’s no way to talk him out of it.

Ash starts off with Totodile’s water gun, which Lanturn dodges. Lanturn uses its own water gun, which Totodile dodges. Lanturn uses supersonic and then take down, both direct hits. Dorian orders a take down from below, which knocks Totodile out of the water. He orders a take down from above, which directly hits again and crashes Totodile into the ground. Misty tells Ash that his land-based strategies won’t help him here. With this in mind, Ash orders Totodile to use scratch attack. It does some damage, but Lanturn is still able to finish the match with spark and then another take down. Ash isn’t too upset, as he knows that Dorian is used to battling underwater and he still learned a lot from the battle. Who’s that pokémon?! It’s Rhydon!!

Dorian lets Misty set the rules and she decides that it will be 3 v. 3. Misty tries to send out Goldeen, but Psyduck comes out instead and rushes to the side. Dorian gives it a floatie and the battle continues. This time Misty succeeds in sending out Goldeen and Dorian sends out Quilfish. Misty orders a horn attack, but Quilfish dodges and tackles. Dorian tells it to keep the tackles up, but Misty makes that more difficult by ordering Goldeen to use agility. Goldeen then lands a direct hit with a horn attack. Brock comments on how fast both pokémon are. Misty orders Goldeen to use supersonic and Dorian counters with pin missile. Goldeen uses her tail as a fan to block the attack. Misty orders a horn drill, but Quilfish dodges and uses pin missile and take down to end the round. Dorian then calls out Mantine next and Misty responds with Corsola.

JessieCo are really mad at AshCo and they plan their revenge with a new secret weapon.

Mantine uses supersonic, but Corsola is able to hold on and use a really hard tackle, knocking Mantine back. Dorian then orders a wing attack, which hits directly several times. Misty then orders a spike cannon, but Mantine dodges with agility and knocks Corsola out with take down. Misty is able to finish the round, however, with recover, spike cannon, and then tackle. Dorian’s next choice is Lanturn, but before Misty can counter, a huge whirlpool comes knocks everyone down. Prepare for trouble; you’re about to get pumped (?)/ and make it double after the way we got soaked/ to protect the world from devastation/ to unite all people under our nation/ V is for victory, so don’t you forget/ we’ll be victorious and won’t break a sweat/ Jessie/ James/ Team Rocket blasts off like a torpedo in flight/ so surrender now or prepare for a watery fight/ chop chop, that’s right. Meowth comes in a huge Krabby mecha. They then create a huge whirlpool that tries to suck all of the pokémon up. Ash and Dorian order Totodile’s water gun and Quilfish’s pin missile, but the whirlpool is too much for them. It sucks all of Dorian’s pokémon up along with Totodile, so Misty finally sends Corsola out of the whirlpool and orders a tackle. It knocks the claw up, sucking Pysduck in. Luckily, she pushes Psyduck out of the way, but gets sucked in herself. Dorian and Corsola try to rescue her, but they get sucked in as well. Ash and Brock try to rescue them, but JessieCo get away before they can do anything.

Ash sends out Noctowl to search for them above water. Noctowl sees something and Ash, Brock, and Psyduck follow it.

Misty and Dorian are tied up and gagged. JessieCo are gloating over their most recent heist when Ash and Brock come and demand that the two be untied. JessieCo refuse and Ash tries to send out Phanpy. However, Psyduck gets in the way and looks quite angry. Brock unties Misty and Dorian while Psyduck stares JessieCo down. However it resumes its natural cluelessness before long, making everyone fall down anime-style. Jessie gets annoyed and orders Arbok to bite Psyduck. It bites it on the head and Victreebel uses razor leaf. Misty tells Arbok to bite harder, surprising Dorian. She then tells Psyduck to use confusion and then psychic to blast JessieCo off again. Dorian is shocked at how powerful it is. I’m on a master quest! Pokémon!

Everyone is relieved by the fact that all of the water pokémon are safe. Dorian tells Misty that she is every bit as strong as her sisters are and they decide to call their battle a draw. AshCo promise to spread the word about the Coastline Gym and Dorian promises Misty to tell her sisters how well she’s doing next time he sees them. The episode ends with a shot of a picture of Dorian standing with Misty next to the pictures of Misty’s sisters.
