The episode opens with a bird's eye view of Ash, Misty and Tracy sailing along on Lapras. The gang look miserable and Misty suggests that should do something (what can they do in the middle of the ocean?). Ash and Tracy agree with her. Then Ash's stomach rumbles (usual sound effect) and he moans that he's hungry. Misty looks exasperated and ask how he can work up an appetite just sitting there all day. He tells her that he's been sitting thinking about food all day. Tracy and Misty sigh, understandabley. All of a sudden Pikachu gets all exited and starts pointing at something. It's an island (what a surprise!) up ahead. Misty says it will give them something to do and they head for it. Jigglypuff pops up out of the sea and laughs to itself just before we cut to the titlecard (exactly like it did in "Snack Attack".)

After being treated to some picturesque establishing shots of the island, we see Pikachu and Togepi running across the beach. Ash calls to them not to go to far. Tracy says that they seem to have got the island to themselves. Misty calls out to Goldeen and Staryu, who are already in the sea, to go and have some fun. Just as Ash calls to Lapras to join them, somthing resembling a nut falls on his head. Tracy says it looks like a fruit (and I still say it's a nut!!!). The gang look up to see a flock of Farfech'd flying overhead. They must have dropped on Ash. Tracy makes a quick sketch of the spectacle, just as Pikachu and Togepi run up, all excited. They have found another odd looking 'fruit'.

In the jungle Ash and Misty discover a tree with the fruit and they try some, which they spit out in disgust, for it isn't ripe yet. Tracy laughs and informs them they have to know which ones to pick. He hands Ash a darker coloured one to try and Ash loves it. Ash suggests they spend they day here and have a little 'vacation' with Pokemon. The three trainers send out all of their Pokemon. Psyduck comes out of the ball before Misty tells it to and she gets upset.

Tracy's new Pokemon, Scyther, scares Bulbasaur and Squirtle by just saying hello. Togepi goes up to it because it's too young to be afraid of anything. The other Pokemon soon relax and go up to meet Scyther. When Ash calls to Charizard to say hello it just grunts and looks the other way. Ash scolds Charizard and gets scolded himself when Charizard Flamethrowers him. The Flamethrower goes past him and almost hits Scyther, who deflects the attack with his wings. Scyther confronts Charizard but Ash puts himself between the two, yelling for them to stop.

Meanwhile on the beach, Team Rocket are soaking up the sun. Meowth says, "We needed this vacation, because failing is hard work too." Jessie tells him not to mention work, because they aren't even going to think about stealing Pokemon today. Togpei and Marril are playing out in they bay and when Team Rocket spot them they cleverly deducts that Ash, Misty and Tracy must be nearby(!).

Back at camp, Bulbasaur is picking fruit, Tracy is training Scyther, and Charizard and Snorlax are sleeping. Team Rocket, back in uniform, watch them through binoculars, from the cliffs. James moans that he thought they were going to forget about Pokemon for a change. Jessie replies angrily that they can when The Boss forgets their debts - then can go on a real vacation. James and Meowth look happier at this and go to work on a plan.

Ash and Misty are walking back to camp when they hear Scyther. It's trying to stop Snorlax from eating all the fruit that they have gathered. Ash tells Snorlax that he knows how he feels and it won't take long to prepare everything. Suddenly, Jigglypuff pops up out of the pile of fruit. It sings it's magical song and sends Ash, Misty, Tracy and their Pokemon to sleep. They all awake some time later, with marker on their faces, and Jigglypuff is nowhere to be seen. It has worked to their advantage because Snorlax is still sleeping, they decide to leave it.

The scene changes to sunset, all the Pokemon are eating happily. Tracy brings his friends a plate of fruit sandwiches. Misty asks why Tracy didn't use bologney, cheese or peanut butter. Tracy answers that Bologney and cheese don't grow on trees and Ash ate all the peanut butter a week ago. Then Ash and Tracy suddenly look like they've seen a ghost. Misty looks behind to see Snorlax towering over her. It takes the plate of fruit sandwiches, downs them in one and licks it's lips. Cut to Ash and co. washing up. Squirtle and Bulbasaur have worked out an ingenious system where Bulbasaur holds a plate with it's vines and Squirtle rinses it with Water Gun. Snorlax is asleep and Misty asks Tracy why Snorlax hasn't eaten as much as normal. He explains it's because it doesn't use as much energy in it's Pokeball.

Night comes, everyone is asleep. Pikachu sees Ash has gone from his sleeping bag. He finds Ash sitting, looking out to sea. Ash is pondering the differnce between the GS Ball and an ordinary Pokeball. Maybe there's something inside? (Celebii anyone?). He talks to Pikachu for a while, about the Orange Islands, the gym leaders and the stars. Back at camp, Tracy is talking in his sleep. Misty wakes up only to falls asleep again when a sparkling powder-like substance floats down. It falls onto all the Pokemon, too, except Charizard and Scyther.

It's James' Victreebel's sleep powder. Meowth comment that it really works, as Victreebel proceeds to swallow James. Jessie decides to begin the plan without James and pulls out a bazooka. Lengths of rope come out it when she fires. They all latch onto the different Pokemon. Meowth and Jessie try to reel them in but find it to be heavy going. Suddenly, the rope snaps and they both fall backwards. It's Scyther, who's slashed the rope, along with Charizard.

Scyther and Charizard call out to alert everyone. Those effected with sleep powder wake up (then it ain't that effective!). Ash and Pikachu come running in time to see Team Rocket recite the motto, sliding down on ropes. James and Jessie crash into a tree and get the motto wrong at the end. Meowth slashes their faces for it. Jessie sends out Arbok and James, Weezing. Weezing uses Smokescreen but Scyther blows it away with Whirlwind. Next, Bulbasaur uses Vine Whip, Squirtle uses Water Gun, and Pikachu uses Thundershock. Charizard uses Flamethrower of it's own accord and Scyther uses Skull bash. Pretty soon the Rockets are blasting off again.

Ash congratulates all the Pokemon. Then, Charizard and Scyther look as if they are about to fight each other, but just walk off. Tracy says it looks like they respect each other. As the sun rises next morning, the trio set off on Lapras, spirits refreshed. The camera pans down to a small island, where Team Rocket are sitting, looking dejected. A Farfech'd appears and then several hundred more. They start beating TR with their leaks, who jump into the air.
