Nintendo have stood in a rather large farmer's pat, and have renamed the dynamic and exciting sounding "Revolution", to the "Wii". Pronounced "Wee", as in the noise you might make whilst free-wheeling down a hill on a bicyle.

This news item is more than 45 days old. Updates are unlikely and newer information may already be available.

The console formerly known as "Revolution" will be out in Japan later this year, and uses a revolutionary new style of controller. It looks like a TV remote but has built in motion sensors and all sorts of magic, which essentially mean that in the next Zelda game, you could literally swing your sword.

Wikipedia has a nice page explaining more about the hardware and general side of the thing.

No news on any Pokémon games yet, but we're reporting this anyway, as sooner or later, you'll be playing Pokémon on this, and no doubt using the snazzy controller to beat your defeated squad when you lose. They could also sell the game as a team management simulator too, capturing the business end of the market.

But that name, eh? Awful.

Or at least, that's what I'm saying now. Presumably in six months time I'll be singing its praises, much like how I used to hate the new controller, and democracy. No doubt in six months I'll be saying "Wii love the name!", be the proud owner of a MySpace account, and will have Daz Samson as the number one song on my iTunes playlist.

Count down to the first "bodily function" joke to be made about the pronounciation of the new name... 5... 4... 3...
