Selakus
Sel is turkish for "flood." And, ak is "white." So, it can be translated as white-water flood, as Gyrados is known for thrashing around. The second, though less related, translation is "salute" for selaku. I suppose that could be for the salute such a pokemon deserves.

Jormangand
Jormangand (J pronounced a Y; no harder to pronounce than Gyarados) in Norse mythology is the World Serpent - a serpent so large it can circle around the world. It is a child of Loki and arch-nemesis to the mighty Thor. Badass Pokemon deserve badass names.

Garnet
This name is intended for a shiny Gyarados. Garnet is a valued mineral and gemstone, often a deep red color. Being they're gemstones, they would sparkle just like a shiny Pokemon. Garnet also starts with the same letter as Gyarados. If all else fails, it's more original than "Red."

Hydrous
I believe this is an actual word, though I didn't think about that when creating the nickname. Derived from Hydro, this nickname is meant for a male Gyarados. The root of the nickname, Hydro, gives it the basic water feel. However, the "ous" at the end gives it a more "Violent" feeling in my opinion. Gyarados is all about raging waters, so I think that a nickname that is reminiscent of raging or violent water is rather suiting.
