Manhole covers (as in those steel circles covering the sewer entrances) are circular so that they cannot fall into the hole no matter how they are turned.

The word smashing  comes from the gaelic phrase 'S math sinn', which means good or great and it's pronounced in the same way as in english. Other words of gaelic origin include: galore (from gu lore, meaning enough)
pet (from peata - a tamed animal)
Smidgen (from smidean - meaning small bit)
