Title: Ash's Water type curse
Post by: Meowstic Royalty on November 28, 2013, 21:53
Ash has had many a water type during his time as a trainer. However, almost none of those water types have actually evolved under his possession.

For example, Totodile, Oshawott, Palpitoad, Buizel and Corpish never evolved. Palpitoad was already evolved from a Tympole before Ash caught it.

Only one of Ash's Water types have evolved, and that is Krabby, evolving into Kingler. There seems to be a theme with Fire types, as most of those that Ash caught were abandoned beforehand. It would appear that a certain theme is taking place with Water types too.

Ash has got a Froakie in the new X and Y anime, so perhaps this time the curse could be broken?

And meanwhile, his grass types have no interesting theme and are boring.

Actually Ash's Grass Pokemon tend to be powerhouses and he ALWAYS has a Grass starter in each region. Look at the list: Bulbasaur (Kanto), Chikorita/Bayleef (Johto), Treeko/Grovyle/Sceptile (Hoenn), Turtwig/Grotle/Torterra (Sinnoh), and Snivy (Unova). They all tend to evolve once except for Bulbasaur, who liked itself as it is, and Snivy for some unknown reason. Snivy could easily evolve into Servine thanks to its power but it has seemed to have chosen not to.

^Evolving and always being starters doesn't count? I would think those points count as a theme.

^Evolving

Not snivy or bulbasaur.

starters

Of course. However, that means that water and fire type starters could be lumped in there.

Now let's get back on topic.

I hope so, or maybe an episode where his angry water types come back and pummel him.

I think Evolution is something that Ash struggles with in general xD

I mean....to be honest most of his Pokemon never see the light of evolution. Heck, Pikachu sort of symbolizes that.

Greninja's popularity will rise even more once Smash Bros comes out. Therefore more reason for Ash to have one.

I don't think Froakie will reach the levels of Piplup or Oshawott who were too popular/cute to evolve...

Another website has revealed the name of an episode which may confirm Ash's Froakie will evolve at some point.

Episode 861: Coumarine Gym Match! Frogadier VS Gogoat!!

actually Sceptile is anything but boring. That Pokemon could kick grass and its personality was badgrass (yes I am making puns). In all seriousness though, I think Froakie might evolve. After all, it is training to be a ninja right now (walking on water, jumping, ect) and its shown to stand its own against a Frogadier.

One way I have noted for Ash to determine if the pokemon has evolved is move progression. If the Pokemon suddenly knows a high leveled move (hydro pump) then it isnt evolving. Froakie will most likely evolve being it has Cut, Water Pulse, Frubbles (is that a move?) and Double Team. Basic moves so he might evolve.
