A Month until ORAS! The hype build-up topic!
« on: October 28, 2014, 14:12 »
(Well a month from a Europen-centric view, however, this is no reason why those who'll be receiving ORAS on the 21st cannot join in either!)

After years of speculation, debates, and examining anything that may be the slightest hint of oncoming remake of Ruby and Sapphire, ranging from NPCs from Hoenn to if you squint it kind of looks like it's saying RUBY AND SAPPHIRE REMAKING COMING, the games are almost upon us.

The purpose of this topic is to build hype to an awesome amount.  Everyday, I will post an element of RS, be it a scenario in the game, a Pokemon, an NPC, pre-release information, events, news or anything that relates to the game, and you can post your experience about it.  It can be as long or short as you like (as long as it follows rules of course.)

Come on, it'll be fun!

(NB: your definition of fun may differ massively from my own.)

TODAY IS...
TRENDY SAYINGS

on Dewford Island there was an interesting bunch of NPCs that would take obsessively about a phrase that could change yourself.  It was changed weekly automatically, and sometimes by trading records with friends you would also receive their 'trendy phrase'.  I was made from stock words such as Pokemon names, pronouns and move names.  I remember using the phase Cute Torchic, but when I went back this year with my girlfriend immaturity got the better of us and, well,  it was a lot less sweet than Cute Torchic.

I only really played R/S back in the day with my brother and my evetual-girlfriend Milia Maxwell as she's called on here so it was intresting to have phrases traded between us.

I hope this returns to ORAS, it made the world feel a bit more alive.

The most trendy thing, as Lewis will attest, is Sappy Babe, there is no other saying quite like it.

I hate that whole trendy phrase nonsense, and most importantly I hate Rex for bringing it up.

Meanwhile, America gets a two-in-one bundle with 100 free potions per game!  Oh boy, I'm so excited!  That's almost 2000 HP

Sorry guys, I am late.  It's been a hetic few days for me, so I'd like to do... three at a time.

For the 29th it was, (or it should have been..) Norman!

Norman's unique in that he's the only character refereed to you as your dad to show up in person, and a gym leader to boot.  Whilst others dad's fates are left ambiguous and only refereed to as passing, Norman takes an small but active role in the story line as the first gym leader you meet, although his the 5th Gym Leader you battle.

You know I'd really like in ORAS if he could, in a fatherly role, give you a new Mega Stone of a certain, ape/sloth like Pokemon he favours.

the 30th it was, or should have been...Petalburg Forest!

Petalburg forest is your basic early-game forest, it's the first forest area not to have Caterpie or Weedle, instead, using newcomer Wurmple to fill the adorable-early-caterpillar role.   Shroomish can be found here, I have fond memories of finding a Shiny Wurmple here and attempting to catch a Shroomish in a Luxury Ball to raise as a Breelom.  I used this area as a defence EV training area searching for Silcoon and Cascoon.

You first meet Team Aqua/Magma depending on your game attempting to steal important papers from the Devon Researcher who has a fondness for Shroomish, through here it's onto Rustburo City.

On the routes outside the forest, there was a Rich Boy on one, and a Lady on the other, they would both us a Zigzagoon for the battle, and during rebattles it would eventually be a Lioone.  The Pokemon always carried a Nugget and by contentiously entering the route over again you would be able to re battle them.  Because of their high prize money, I used to do this to get a quick amount of cash to buy vitamins  to EV train Pokemon with.  With one Pokemon with the anmlut coin, and another with thief, I used to rack up a lot of money quickly.

Since it's Halloween today....let's do a spooky duo:

Dusclops and Banette

Dusclops was (at the time) the final evolution of Duskull and Banette of Shuppet, they could be considered a paired Pokemon, those are Pokemon with strong similarities and often are version exlusive or easier to obtain in one game over another.   Whilst they weren't version exclusives,  Duskull was much easier to find in Ruby and Shuppet in Sapphire.  Dusclops was the more defensive Pokemon with an impressive 130 in both Defence stats but weaker attack,  whilst Banette had stats more suited for attacking.  Back then there was no physical special split as DP introduced, so Banette was the best Ghost type to make use of Shadow Ball, from a power point of view, other Ghost types before had relatively low attack stat  and higher special attack stat.

Elite Four Phoebe used both on her team, two Dusclops at level 48 and 51 and a two Banette at level 49.

Dusclops could great use of the new move Will-O-Wisp to increase it's defensive potential.   It could also learn Pain Split but breeding, but that required a Misdreavus which wasn't available to trade over to RS for quite sometime until the release of Colossum on the GameCube and then Fire Red & Leaf Green

Eventually Dusclops would be given a further evolution that Banette didn't receive but in Gen 6 he would be given a Mega Evolution.

I quite liked these Pokemon, I found their base forms strangely cute.

Phoebe will definitely get a Dusknoir as she was seen using one in one of the trailers.

Not a wi-fi event as far as I gather. It's being spread about through Streetpass, apparently.

[and before someone rages, yes I'm not pleased with that either]
