That would make it a bit more interesting. Actually, I like to imagine that there is indeed a romance between the two main characters. It sort of develops over the course of the story ^.^
-
It depends on the plot, I guess. Would work better if both you and your potential love interest were formerly humans, imo (I only played Explorers of Darkness, but I assume all Mystery Dungeons thus far have started this way?) Although, there are quite a few possibilities if you went through a similar line of questions for your partner and/or love interest. Heheh, a Bonnie and Clyde relationship would be amusing... for example.
-
I guess it would be interesting, but wouldn't a "human" + Pokémon relationship be kinda weird. o-o
-
well, it'd mean the partner would have to be the opposite gender
or something.
-
^Why can't Pokémon be homosexual? =P

Maybe it could be one of those games where your decisions throughout the story determine what kind of relationship you have with your partner and other Pokemon. Yeah...that would be awesome.
-
you should try asking somewhere with more furries...
-
^ yeah seriously
i don't like furry stuff. all i'm imagining right now is a chimchar and a chikorita making out on that beach in the second mystery dungeon.
-
It'd be a bad romance so no, I wouldn't like to see it. It'd make a cool song though...
/me looks at Lady Gaga
=D
-
Wouldn't happen since the player is supposed to be the pokemon and role playing as someone who sleeps with animals would be a bit odd. On the other hand it could add more depth to the game if you could replay the game as the offspring of you and your partner with special breeding moves and whatnot. I do have a soft spot for romance in games. :3
Imagine all the "metapod used harden" style jokes you could use in your relationship. P:

Oh god now i have this in my head DX
I wouldn't mind some romance, maybe some romance rivalry too! The evil guy should get the girl : P because then it would be an awesome twist. Like dusknoir caught me right off guard!

^Why can't Pokémon be homosexual? =P
Because the creators don't want homophobic complaints.
And/or something to do with child-friendly ratings.

Can't forget String Shot... especially after Harden ;o
-
^ There are two moves you can use after stockpile but I think that might be going too far. Besides psyduck has a headache tonight.
I've decided I'm in favour of romance for future stories as long as it has a really depressing end so it feels relevant to me.
-
Hi guys. I'm new here. As for the topic, I would love to see some romance in the games. I've always pictured Vulpix and Riolu together... even though they can't breed. :(
-
I don't really think the "human + Pokémon oh noes" is too important - Diamond, Pearl and Platinum all said that people and Pokémon used to fall in love with each other, marry, etc.
...And I wouldn't mind some romance. If it was done well.
-

It's an evolutionary disadvantage?
-
It's an evolutionary disadvantage?
overpopulation says hi
-
considering there's an infinite number in the wild and trainers catching wild pokémon as well I doubt that'd be a problem
-
The furrys would have a field day.
So would the media if they found out. "Pokemon encourages bestiality"
-
Uhm...No. No I wouldn't. I prefer the whole 'Best Friend' rather then 'Star Crossed Lovers' plot of MD.
Besides, we already had romance with Grovyle and Celebi, I think that was the just right amount of romance needed for the game.

they could just not state the gender of the partner pokemon so its gender can be whatever you would imagine it to be.
-
no because that would be wrong.

Remove your partner's Gender, and you have to remove all the Pokemon's genders. Remove all the Pokemon's genders, and one's left to wonder what happens to sepcific gender based evolutions like Burmy.

exactly yet again.
if you want romance in pmd then read some fanfics
be warned some of them are a little extreme so stay in the t rated section
-
a bad pomance? pokemance? I'm actually doing some lyrics so i can do a Cosplay skit for it lol
-
I actually would...in a story I'm writing, my two characters from Sky make cameos with Wigglytuff's Guild (although Bidoof has the most time out of them) and Zapklaw (Player character, he's a Luxray) and Friendrita (Lousy name, I know, but she's a Meganium), I'm planning something to happen near the ending...
Anyways, it would be epic if it could happen in-game. XD
Egg groups would be the only problem there, but then again, they're often ignored in roleplays etc., so...
-
It would be cool, but it probobly isnt gonna happen. I just dont see Shinx making out, or as Harry Potter says it, snogging Piplup.
-
yep I would my characters are a female vulpix (me) and a shinx (male).
-
Male Riolu and Shinx... Just NO. NO.
-
Male Riolu and Shinx... Just NO. NO.
Perhaps if it made sure that the partner was the opposite gender?
-
well i dont see the problem aslong as its not forced on the player. the way the stories are already you can assume the hero and partner have a deeper degree of realationship
aslong as we dont get to poke sex im alright with it XD
(save it for the day care people)
-
Perhaps if it made sure that the partner was the opposite gender?
Possibly.
-
... You are a human trapped in a pokemons body... They are a Pokemon... Too close to bestiality for me
-
It depends. If its a girl and if its not something ugly, why not.
-
Hmm...Depends, really. If it was something I could pick by choice (Y'know, dependant on how you interact with your partner and the townsfolk), and if you and your partner both used to be human (Possibly also acquainted) than I don't see why not.
Would be rather awkward for four-legged Pokemon to hug, though.
Oh yeah, and don't forget the homosexuality xD I know that the folks at Game Freak probably wouldn't allow it, but it'd be nice to see.
-
I would honestly LOVE for it to be romantic, but I think it would be best if the relationship remained on the ambiguous side. Like, the player could easily interpret it as either friendship or romance, depending on their preference.
I've always personally perceived it as romance, just cause I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff. :D
-
 I'd like that
-
Well, I might be a bit biased considering I named my player and partner after two characters I ship, but it would be a fun idea! Of course keeping it optional, as it might not fit in a lot of playthroughs, like my last one where they were named after two siblings >.<
-
Well since this topic got necromancer'd....
I mean it would definitely be interesting. If it were optional and didn't go TOO far, then i'd welcome it wholeheartedly. However, since it's a game aimed towards kids (then again oras) it probably won't happen. Guess we'll just have to settle for either poorly written or overly sexualized fanfiction instead.

Or, more than likely, both!
Tbh, i dont know if the romance thing is such a good idea. However, i would like the games to be better written overall, with more interesting characters and plots and stuff. I know its a silly kids game, but there isnt a single thing that cant be improved with better writing. Just look at sun and moon, with guzma and team skull and lillie and gladion and all the other really strong, totally unique characters. Hell, even the trial captains were really cool. Just saying, id still be playing super mystery dungeon if it didnt feel like all the dialogue had been written for five year olds.

Well since this topic got necromancer'd....
oh no I'm so sorry >.<
I keep seeing cool topics and posting before I notice "Wait, this is super old"
-
this thread has been necro'd like 5 times, yours wasn't really that bad
