I've been reading about the virtual console versions of Red, Blue and Yellow. When I started up Red earlier, it said something about not being compatible with save states or something like that. I'm guessing this means we can't save our progress in the virtual console versions via the in-game "save" option. Is there another way of doing it or are we completely incapable of saving altogether?

idk what that means exactly but saving in game wont delete your data... or it didnt delete mine anyway.

That's good to know. I've never completed Red, Blue or Yellow before, I've come close to completing Yellow, but I couldn't beat Giovanni. I still have the cartridges for all three games.
If I can save my game without issues, I can try to complete it again.
With everything I know about Pokemon now, it should be so much easier.

yeah i remember completing red but i was like... 7... so i dont remember anything. and everything i do remember is from yellow apparently? so playing blue is just an exercise in how wrong about everything one game can prove me to be
its frustrating if anything because you dont have the current learnsets/types/mechanics but that just makes it fun and challenging. id probably hate this if i was younger but now im just like hell yeah lmao

On the virtual console it just means that you can't quicksave like you can in some other games. You have to save it properly, through the menu. In the original cartridges you will be very lucky if our internal battery hasn't run dry. I think mine is okay, but I speedran the last time I played through so it wasn't an issue
