Title: Platinum team
Post by: Pie_lover on July 27, 2013, 01:28
I am playing Pokemon platinum for the first time and am wondering what is good team to use later on during the elite four. Thank you!

If you wish to use a starter, Infernape is one of the best choices for ingame. Fire types are quite rare in Sinnoh...so unfortunately, Infernape is the way to go for a fire type. Torterra is decent, as is Empoleon, but you can choose your preferred starter.

Now, a Fire/Water/Grass core (one of each type) in your team is especially good ingame, so I have a little list of FWG cores:

Torterra/Rapidash/Floatzel
Infernape/Tentacruel/Leafeon
Empoleon/Roserade/Rapidash
Infernape/Gastrodon/Roserade
Torterra/Flareon/Gyarados
Empoleon/Houndoom/Roserade
Infernape/Tangrowth/Azumarill
Torterra/Magmortar/Whiscash

There's some. Looking at the Sinnoh Dex can help you out a lot.

Then I would advise you to use a good Flying type, if you opt not to use a Pelipper for Fly. Staraptor is most certainly one of the best in Sinnoh, but there's Noctowl and friends too.

Next, a good Ghost, Psychic or Dark type will be useful. Maybe even a Fighting type. You could use:

Houndoom (Which you could use in your FWG core to make room for another pokemon!)
Weavile
Alakazam
Machamp
Medicham
Bronzong
Lucario
Drapion
Toxicroak
Abomasnow
Gallade/Gardevoir
Umbreon/Espeon
Gengar
Dusknoir
Froslass
Absol
Infernape

A ground type is also useful, there are a few ground types that work well. Rhyperior, Hippowdon, Torterra (FWG core), Mamoswine, Gliscor, Quagsire (FWG core again), Garchomp, Gastrodon, Steelix and Golem are all good.

So, that should be about 5 members, unless you picked things like Houndoom/Quagsire/Torterra.

For example, I've picked a team of Infernape / Tangrowth / Azumarill / Gengar / Rhyperior. Now, I could use a steel type, or I could use a Flying type for HM Fly. I'll opt for a Steel type, since there isn't much backtracking in Platinum. Besides, I can catch any Starly and give it Fly, and pluck it out of the PC when I need it.

Now, Bronzong, Scizor, Steelix, Bastiodon, Lucario, Probopass, Empoleon and Magnezone are all good candidates. Scizor is possibly one of your best bets, but Magnezone is useful. Otherwise, take your pick. I suggest a Steel type because they pack many useful resistances that your other teammates might lack.

In the example, I chose Scizor, so my team is now Infernape / Tangrowth / Azumarill / Gengar / Rhyperior / Scizor. This is an example of a solid team that is useful.

As a note, Empoleon is an amazing pokemon against the Elite 4.

TL,DR: Use a Fire type, water type and a grass type, then take your pick.

Hopefully this helped you a lot!
