Not had a good thread like this for a while, so... what version did you get and where are you now?
Blue version as I had a Red and Yellow back in the day and fancied a change...
Current team:
Bulbasaur (S) level 11
Butterfree (Flora) level 10
Rattata (Roland) level 10
Meant to name my Bulbasaur "Sprout" but screwed up and couldn't be bothered restarting so S it is. I'll change it when I get to the Name Rater... maybe. Just about to take on Brock! Spent a while levelling up Butterfree because for some reason I thought it learned Confusion upon evolving but apparently it's at level 12 instead. I might spend a bit longer levelling up since it's only another two levels. It'll be interesting to see how I get on with Blue all these years later rather than blindly fumbling through Red as a n00b all those years ago! Already the Viridian Forest was easier than I recall since I just switched Bulbasaur to hoover up all those Poison Stings.
Provisionally planning my team to be Venusaur, Cloyster, Clefable, Rhydon, Jynx and an as yet undecided Fire type (maybe Magmar) but it'll no doubt end up completely different.

Last time played red I borrowed it from my friend but wasn't allowed to overwrite his file so only got up to mt moon :( never actually completed the original so it'll be fun.
No idea what my team is going to be yet! I'm just training up some more for Brock.

I had Blue and Yellow as a kid so I decided to get Red this time and maybe Yellow later. Training for Brock now. My team so far:
SmolDragon - Charmander lvl 8
BirbFriend - Pidgey lvl 6
Not sure what my team will be, but I will have a Cubone and a Ghastly. Not sure what their names will be yet.

Finally got round to setting up personal hotspot and downloading Blue. It hurt my phone p bad.
I've just left town with my little bubby Squirtle named Levi. I don't have a team planned but I am ready to take on the world.
I can't believe RBY were released 50 weeks before I was born. I started playing Pokemon with my brother's copy of Gold which he gave to me when FireRed came out. It's incredible how far graphics have come but also how good they already were even 20 years ago. I am loving life. Loving life.

Beedrill (Weedles are so much harder to find in Blue, but I very rarely leave Vidrian Forest without one.)

Spearow
Jigglypuff
I'm really enjoying it, to be honest it's better than my hazy memroies of it being buggy, slow and ugly (expect that Wigglytuff sprite. What.)
I'm at Mt. Moon so far, will be doing the Mew glitch soon. Probably going to buy Yellow/Red when I get paid next month.

Cerulean City! Just got myself a Mew (thanks early mew glitch) and doing some levelling up before going to take on Misty.
Team is now
Ivysaur (S) lv 18
Butterfree (Flora) lv 17
Rattata (Roland) lv 16
Clefairy (Cliff) 16
God I spent so long hunting for a Clefairy and managed to catch one with my very last pokeball. I will never set foot in Mount Moon again. Rattata is proving much more useful that I expected... Quick Attack/ Hyper Fang are pretty useful for dispatching the opposition!

So six hours in and I've only just gotten to Vermillion City... spent more time messing about with the Mew/Trainer-Fly glitch than I have actually playing the game. Amongst other things I've caught another Mew, a Gengar, a Nidoqueen... and two new additions to my team!

Encountering Lapras was a very pleasant surprise and I might have it on my team instead of the planned Cloyster... despite always liking Lapras I've never really bothered with it apart from training one for contests in OR (which I then accidentally Wonder Traded away) and getting a Rhyhorn this early was really handy too so I don't have to spend ages in the Safari Zone later.

Magikarp was such a pain to train but so worth it. Abra actually wasn't nearly as bad. I did have other members on my team, but they were planned to be temporary when I caught them. I would not have been able to beat Brock without Butterflu the Butterfree or Misty without Loyalty the Pikachu. (about butterflu and Loyalty's names, Butterflu was because I was going to call it Papillon, the french word for butterfly, but couldn't remember how to spell it so I had to look it up and misspelled butterfly as butterflu, so I decided why not. For Loyalty, my first pokemon game was Yellow, and FirstFriend wouldn't fit.)

i got red today. buying process is easier than i thought, so i guess i'll definitely buy more later on. i promised myself that i wouldnt buy blue or yellow until i finished this one. i probably wont buy those two anyway - maybe just yellow if the storyline differs. it's been like 14 years, so i dont even remember at this point. i think the starters cange but i dont remember past that.
really hoping that they rerelease GSC soon. I'd be on that in a heartbeat!!! I really want my meganium back. they were my first 100 so nostalgia would be so hecking high.
I'm at mt. moon grinding right now, since i cant get the rest of my planned team yet.

I had to settle for the in-game trade Jynx hence the name... I'd forgotten how much of a monumental pain TMs only being single use was so I'm hoarding them all until I can abuse the Missingno glitch to clone them... unfortunately Clefairy is a bit of a dead weight until then since he has crap moves. Still not 100% sure what my last team member will be... flirting with the idea of using Hitmonlee because elemental punches.

Ugh doesn't Rhyhorn learn any rock/ground type moves through levelling up??? His current movset is Horn Attack/Dig/Body Slam/Stomp because I'm trying to hoard my TMs.

I've boxed Pikachu for the moment. He just kept on dying too easily, it was so frustrating!

Rest is a bit redundant on Rhydon since I've got a zillion max revives and full restores now so that might be changed for something else... and of course I forgot that all the elemental moves were special back in the day so the punches are pretty useless on Hitmonchan whose Special stat is non existant. I might keep Thunderpunch for taking care of any flying types... I'm also in two minds whether to replace Thunderbolt on Clefable with Fire Blast since I don't really have any fire type moves on my team to speak of... of course this is ingame so it's not like it matters too much. I wonder how my RBY team today would compare to my old RBY team of yesteryear now that I actually have some awareness of movesets!

Playing Blue version, and I'm only in Vermilion City due to having fun messing around with the Mew glitch to get other Pokemon like Scyther, Chansey,Gengar and another Mew lol.
So far my team is:
