Rude Sports Fans
« on: September 06, 2013, 20:05 »
Hi, well last night while I was at a High School Football (American) game. It was a great game went into triple overtime wit our team winning. However, the other team's fans were not happy about this and start shouting swear words, flicking white powder everywhere, and flipping off other people, little kids and up. Also, please note that the angry fans were students, not adults. Plus, the refs blew a lot of calls in the other team's favor. So, I don't why they complained.

So, have you ever ran into rude sports fans? If so, you can post your stories here.

Come to ANY football game in the English leagues. It's a regular thing.

Even at grass roots (pee-wee) level the parents hurl abuse at the ref. We've just become desensitised to it.

Eagles fans too.  Any team in Philly.

Don't forget about Oakland.  They don't allow San Francisco to schedule preseason in Oakland because apparently the murder rate spikes.

They don't give up after one overtime and call it a tie in high school?  That's pretty peculiar.  Two scoreless overtime quarters too o.o

Maybe in your state (assuming you live in the us) they stop it. It was an awesome game either game.

When fans boo people who they don't support at F1. A couple of weeks ago Vettel was on the podium and got really violent booing... I don't even like Vettel (I'd go as far as to say I hate him) but I like rude fans even less.

The fact your league games go to extra time after a tie is just weird in itself. Maybe because here everyone's a winner.

I don't understand why for baseball and basketball it is so, but football seasons in general tend to have such a low number of games that we need the extra time to finish it off to get a more accurate gauge of the season.  Do you guys have playoffs for your sports btw?  Because they also need more decisive information to determine playoff seeding and all that.

Not playoffs in the sense that you do. In the Premier League, the team that wins the league is the winner and that's that. Then the next three teams play in the Champions' League with 5th place playing in the Europa League. The bottom three teams are relegated to the Football League Championship.

In the case of the Football League, it works like this:

SkyBet Championship: Winner and 2nd place are automatically promoted, with 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th enter a playoff for the final promotion spot. 3rd plays 5th and 4th plays 6th in two matches (home and away) with the winners of each playing the final at Wembley Stadium for the third promotion place. Bottom three clubs are relegated to League One

SkyBet League One: Same rules as Championship, four clubs are relegated to League Two

SkyBet League Two: Top three clubs promoted with 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th in a playoff for the final promotion spot. Bottom two are sent to the Conference Premier.

The English football pyramid just works on a hierarchy rather than all the teams having a chance of progressing to a main major trophy (The Superbowl in your case). It mainly works on this premise due to the fact that there are 20 teams in the Prem, and 24 in each of the next three divisions playing over 40 games a season that it works in this way. Plus the FA Cup, League Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy (The latter for League One and Two clubs only) as well as the Champions League or Europa League some clubs play over 50 games a season.

Wow lmao it's like we're on the same wavelength, I actually understand how your system works now and it's much more straightforward than ours.  We don't have a points system (ties are basically half a win, as opposed to 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw) with wins either so each game is crucial, especially since it's a 16 game season.  High School football is like 10-12 games, so you can see how a tie would skew things.

I reckon our system would work in your sports. Would help smaller outfits make more money and stay afloat. Probably different in America as the teams are much further apart than they are here. I can be at a ground in a couple of hours to watch a team play but for you guys you probably get big gates as they're the only teams for miles.

Or that your leagues aren't run on TV rights...
