JAPANESE TELEVISION

whether it's sushi eating competitions eating 30 pieces in as many seconds, or those wacky game shows which have since been westernised... i thought it was mainly done for purely western exposure but when i was there that kinda stuff was always on. so weird... so zany!!

TV and Movies / Re: Your favourite movie soundtrack.

this is a GREAT thread! a little off topic, but my favourite TV soundtrack is definitely the OC. it turned me on to a lot of alternative music which i now listen to and cherish.
in terms of movies... well, i really like the friday night lights s/t, which was curated and put together by explosions in the sky. even own it on vinyl!

man i need to check these albums out, Wildlife + Sports were such great albums.

i don't even know what the last new album i listened to was. i think probably Deaf Havana - "Meet Me Halfway, At Least" but I'm not sure. pretty great album if not a bit old now.
rooms of the house is just as progressive as wildlife, and has a similar storyline vibe going on. there's no king park-esque track (thank god, it was the worst on wildlife) and there's no you and i in unison (probably ld's best track ever, sans maybe something from somewhere at the bottom... LP). overall a good listen, the woman (reading) and woman (in mirror) tracks are amazing.
in terms of you're gonna miss it all, it has some BANGERS but sports is a little better imo. fine great, broken cash machine, your graduation anddd the third track (name escapes) me are probably standouts for me.

surprised to see someone else on this forum digging those two bands!!!

full length LPs that i've listened to in 2014 so far

johnny foreigner//you can do better (mathy, noisy indie rock w/ obnoxiously british vocals. ffo: early los campesinos!, tubelord)

sun kil moon//benji (slow, brooding folk rock. mark kozelek from red house painters)

nothing//guilty of everything (melancholic shoegaze. ffo: my bloody valentine, whirr, nu-gaze)

la dispute//rooms of the house (post-hardcore w/ a poet lyricist. ffo: mewithoutyou. great new LP to follow up wildlife.)

modern baseball//you're gonna miss it all (college emo rock, similar to the front bottoms, or a whinier tigers jaw).

some more... eh.

Random Randomness / Re: Do you have a catch-phrase?

not like, one specific thing, but i always have weeks or whatnot where i'll just continually say the same thing, ALL THE TIME
some examples would be "yes boys", "chur to the ___", "righteous", "that's chill", "pike", et cetera and so on, so forth.

10 years. Kinda weird imagining where I would be / what I would have done with that time if not using this board for most of it...

yeah, all those spots. i've actually wanted to go to kinkaku-ji for a while now. i've just heard that touristy spots are always more expensive since they know people will pay for them. me on the otherhand, i'm poor. i just wanna go to the NGE theme park! #life.

orly? i'm away from 17-dec to 23-jan. party!

Aegislash is really easy to counter, tho. And incredibly slow. Nevertheless, I like it and use it. Kekeke~

mmmaybe pity sex if youre looking for some whiny emo stuff...

pity sex are sick, backed. one of the singers, britty, has a side project way closer to shoegaze roots, procession. check that out too, she's got a good voice on her.

daylight, turnover, citizen, brand new. first three are all new wave 90's rehash bands.

Which bits are you visiting?
i'm there for six weeks, so pretty much all the major cities + okinawa. i got a list of all the bits that the internet recommends to anyone, but just in case anyone here has been and found some hidden goodies, thought i'd ask!
