My Internal Batteries have run dry.
« on: April 25, 2011, 12:19 »
I felt like playing Ruby today. I loaded it, and was told the internal battery had run dry. I then checked Sapphire to find the same. I remember doing something using FR/LG to stop this. It didn't work for Sapphire, but it did work for Ruby back then. We'd also gotten a Jirachi from Channel. We'd also used XD and Colusseum.

They've both been played a fair bit, but I've not used them for about a year, when they were fine. I haven't checked FR/LG, but Emerald is fine.

So, can I fix this? I want to replay Ruby and re-experience my favourite Pokéon games.

Batteries eventually die, GSC ones did, unless you know how to open up the cartridge and insert a new one I don't think you can do anything, unless Nintendo still offer replacements. The DS games use the DS clock afaik, so they shouldn't ever have that problem.

It doesnt really matter, it only means you cant plant berries, or something. You can still play it. Also, someone told me that if you trade pokemon with another game, it will work again.

I have this message on one of my Ruby cartridges(I have two) as well. It only means that you can't do activities which use time such as growing berries. In fact I think growing berries may even be the only one. The game still plays and saves perfectly.

Actually I was told by my guy friend who knows a lot about video games that GCS had a save battery glitch of some kind which was corrected in the advanced generations on. Thus I am not sure how capable the advanced generations are of that problem.

Checked my UK Ruby and yup, Internal Battery's dead. Just hope game saves don't decide to die one day.

Guess that's goodbye berries, goodbye Secret Base Trainer Battles, goodbye Lottery, goodbye everything time based.

Guess there's your excuse for remakes Game Freak and Nintendo. ;)

^ We've just got to hope this is a sign, don't we? If features are becoming unuseable, that's a great reason for a remake.

Oh my gosh, my internal batteries have run dry too! I think this proves the rapture is due today (believe me, there are people believing in worse 'signs'). :D

Well this is really annoying, but at least I still have my game save - Blue just died & took all my pokémon with it.

This was a glitch that happens after the game has been played for 100 hours or so or becomes one year old.

It's not really a glitch, literally what happens is that the battery inside the cart (yes, there's a battery inside the cart; it's used to keep time in the game) has gone out.  It's not really that detrimental to the game because it doesn't affect saving times or even saving (much), it just prevents the clock from running while the game isn't on.  I don't think FRLG had this, and DPP onwards definitely don't have it because they take the time straight off of the DS clock.

It was something nintendo didn't plan on happening and that's why its fixed in LG/FR

I'm sure they planned on the batteries lasting longer, but in FRLG it doesn't happen simply because there's no internal clock.

I forgot about that. Is that maybe why there isn't an internal clock in LG/FR

Considering the age of the games, I don't think they planned on the batteries lasting longer - they just figured nobody would be playing as much after eight years.

I believe the batteries (possibly only in newer games) are supposed to recharge as you play them, so maybe you'll have some luck there.
