Team Building / Trying to get back into battling [RMT]
« on: January 30, 2016, 23:22 »

[I don't expect to get many/any replies to this I know there's not really many people who play competitively here]
As the title says I'm trying to get back into battling. I haven't battled seriously since before ORAS came out, so my battling skills are a little rusty and I'm not even really sure what the threats I need to prepare a team for tbh. Expect very standard smogon sets because I'm lazy and don't know what I'm doing for now. Anyway here's the team:

Weavile @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard
- Ice Punch
- Low Kick

Weavile is where I decided to start because when I used to battle I found it to be a very reliable revenge killer. Giving it a choice band ensures it can hit hard and switch out. Knock Off is generally what I lock myself into unless I have good reason not to, even if it's resisted it will do a decent amount of damage, and who doesn't want to knock off the other teams items? One thing I am considering is trying to fit pursuit into this moveset because I've found myself in a few situations where it could be handy.

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 84 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Thunder Wave

Next I decided I needed something with a bit of bulk to offset how frail weavile is. I chose celebi because it's a good utility pokemon, it has good all around bulk and it can set up stealth rocks. I'm very happy with how celebi has been performing, I've used it in the past and it's been fairly useless, but it really shines when spreading paralysis on this team. However, it's main use has been as a pivot for me to figure out my opponents movesets, recover has been a godsend to figure out my opponents items and ev investments whilst taking minimum damage.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Toxic

Celebi and Heatran work well together, usually a good defensive core. I decided to switch it up and use an offensive heatran on this team because this set intrigued me when I saw it on smogon. The general idea is to use magma storm to trap something that can't hurt you too much eg: clefable, chansey, hit it with a taunt and toxic to whittle it down safely. It seems a bit gimmicky and it's been kinda working for me so far (although MS misses a lot =P).

Keldeo @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Secret Sword
- Scald
- Icy Wind
- Hydro Pump

Just a standard Keldeo, using this because I wanted a FWG core to base the rest of my team around. I don't actually use this keldeo too much, but when I do use it, I really need it. Like Weavile it tends to get a hit in and get back out. I'm considering scarfing this, just so I have something to rival opposing scarfs.

Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Foul Play

At this point I realised I didn't have a mega and I definitely knew the remaining 2 slots were going to be filled by a defensive mon and a physical attacker. After a little think and an explore of the new (well oras =P) megas, I decided to try out Sableye. It's got nice defences and nice resistances. I tend to lead with this quite often as, like celebi, it's good for scouting out opponents. Also I love to spread status and knock off, so that makes another appearance ;)

Landorus-Therian @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

For the final physical attacker I decided I needed some real physical power, as the rest of my team really lacked that (weavile aside). I think this set really works well, people often switch into something they think can wall a more standard lando-t, but once I'm behind a sub I can set up and sd and often tear through unprepared or weakened teams. The LO damage can be annoying, but I like to have the power in case I don't get a chance to set up, I just worry about it dying too quickly. I think the standard version of this set uses a salac berry, but I don't really like the idea of that, seems too easy to kill with priority.

Thanks for reading this, sorry if some of what I wrote was unnecessary this is my first one of these threads.

Team Building / Could use some ideas, so RMT!
« on: March 01, 2014, 22:44 »
Never done an RMT thread before so apologies if I say anything stupid =P But my team struggles with a couple of threats and I'm wondering what to replace in order to deal with them without losing too much!

@ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Ice Punch
- Knock Off

Fairly standard Conkeldurr. This generation Conkeldurr has been a massive surprise to me, as I'd never used it previously. With the bulk of the Assault Vest Conkeldurr is bulky enough to take a surprising amount of hits and annihilate unprepared teams. With guts it can function as a status absorber, which I find incredibly useful. Knock off is an amazing move and I use it at almost every opportunity. Mach punch gives it some good priority to remedy its poor speed and help it net some KOs on weakened pokemon. Drain punch gives it some vital recovery that it misses from leftovers and Ice Punch provides some coverage against the dragons.

[size=78%]@ Mawilite[/size]
Ability: Huge Power [Intimidate]
EVs: 252 Atk / 132 HP / 124 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Fire Fang

Mega-Mawile is something I've wanted to try out for a while. It's definitely a force to be reckoned with, although perhaps a little slow. I have found that its lack of speed deprive it of opportunities to set up and it has to focus on killing. Play rough is there because fairy stab is a great stab to have, sucker punch is good priority and will kill faster threats weak to it most of the time. Fire fang has been working really well for me. People always bring scizor in on Mawile (why? Don't ask me.).

(M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Focus Blast

At this point of building my team I realised I was lacking in speed, so in comes Thundurs to support the slower pace of my team with its amazing priority t-wave. Thundurus works really well as a lead in most situations, either t-wave a fast threat or land a powerful hit while my opponent lays their rocks. T-bolt for stab, HP-ice doesn't hit that hard, but can surprise some people and focus blast hits rock types and most importantly ferrothorn. I prefer leftovers over life orb because it gives it a bit of lasting power, it dies too quickly with a life orb.

@ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SDef
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Thunder Wave

Speaking of Ferrothorn, I love using it. Ferrothorn never lets me down. With its EV spread and nature focused on taking hits on both defences it's a good answer to a decent number of pokemon. Stealth rock because SR. Leech Seed makes it last a little longer and gets some residual damage. I like using power whip > gyro ball, it just fits the way I play Ferrothorn better. T-wave supports my slower team again.

@ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Slack Off
- Fire Blast

Slowbro is usually amazing for me. I love how physically bulky it is, but on this team it doesn't really seem to be doing much. It takes hits, but quickly dies. I love the fact it gets regenerator allowing it to take a lot of extra hits, but it just can't hit anything back hard enough to threaten it, the only reason it's not gone yet is talonflame.

@Choice Band
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd/ 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet
- Crabhammer
- Crunch

I added Crawdaunt for the fun factor, but omg I love it. CB Knock Off with adaptability and stab? YES PLEASE!  Aqua Jet is surprisingly powerful coming from crawdaunt, Crabhammer gives it a more powerful stab and Crunch is for killing things that resist water after Knock Off has been spammed. Thinking about going Switcheroo > Crunch, just because it would be something fun and unexpected.

I hope that wasn't too bad to read! I'm awful at explaining things so it probably sounded awful xD But some things that my team doesn't handle all too well are: Mega Venusaur and Mega Pinsir. I'm not sure what to replace and what to add in that would fit my team all that well. I was thinking of a Talonflame, but I don't have defog or rapid spin anywhere and I think I have enough of a physically offensive presence on my team.

I'd like to evolve my Pumpkaboo. My Friend code is 0817-3787-1917. I've given it an everstone so if you could remove that and trade it back to me that'd be great! Thanks :3

Character Guides / Oscar Moore
« on: August 29, 2010, 19:55 »
Name: Oscar Moore
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Personality: Oscar is your typical alpha male type. He likes to be the centre of attention, the life and soul of the party, always the one that's where it's all happening and because he always wants to be where all the 'gossip' is he never has a stable group of friends, he hops from group to group as he pleases. This 'group hopping' has made Oscar really good with meeting new people and how to make good first impressions. Although he hops from group to group stability is really what he craves.
Description: Oscar is around average height at 5'9 and has a fairly muscular build, with straight jet black hair that he spends 20 minutes styling with gel every morning. He chooses to wear more casual clothes, such as: t-shirts, hoodies, jeans and trainers. Although he dresses casually he won't just stick anything on. Every outfit has to properly coordinate and be bright coloured. This is why he doesn't wear black.
However, his clothing is quite different on a special occasion. If it's something very special he'll wear a black shirt and white tie, as he's been told it suits him very well. Himself, he hates the shirt and tie and would much rather be wearing his favourite bright green hoody.
History: Oscar was brought up in the town of Sandgem, the home of one of Sinnoh's beutiful ports. His dad worked at these ports, dealing with exports. He spent all day carrying heavy boxes, just him and three Machoke.  Sometimes Oscar would help out, although he'd rather be speaking to people getting off the boats, seeing what their visit to Sinnoh is for. However he's only been looking for a trainer journeying the region, but unfortunately he's not found anyone yet.

Character Guides / Bea Walker[Retired]
« on: June 12, 2010, 17:52 »
Name: Bea Walker
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Description: Bea is an average height girl for her age, not being skinny but definitely not fat. Her big blue eyes light up a room as soon as she walks in, this gives her an advantage when on-stage in contests. She has long blonde hair that falls down her back to form massive massive curls.

Unlike most girls her age, her skin looks perfectly presentable without any make-up at all. On an average day she would wear something girly, like a pink dress or something like that.

Personality: Bea is a quiet girl, who would rather sit in a corner and read a book than be the centre of attention. This shows massively when on-stage coordinating, as everything is focused around her Pokémon and not self-indulgence. Although she is reserved and quiet Bea finds it quite easy to get along with people and make friends, she just prefers to have a few close friends and get along with them.

Although she is a quiet girl, she has a rather short temper. This gets her into a lot of trouble at times and even loses her friends. If people have known her for long enough they get used to how angry she gets and get used to it. Bea knows her short temper causes problems and tries to make it right once she's feeling better. She has even given someone one of her Pokémon just to prove that she was sorry, but they declined the offer of the Pokémon obviously not wanting to take it away from its home.

History: Bea was born into a fairly rich family, but she was just a typical trainer. She got a her first Pokémon, Bubbles the Jigglypuff, at the age of ten. Since then she has been travelling Sinnoh, failing to win a single ribbon. Although Bea hasn't won a single ribbon yet this doesn't mean she's given up trying, far from it in fact she's hoping to travel to Hoenn and make it to the grand festival there. Maybe even making some friends along the way.

Friends/Enemies: Aaron Smith, Maya Love, Emma McGrath.

Bubbles(F)
Moves: Defence Curl, Rollout, Sing, Pound and Mega Kick.

Honeycomb(F)
Moves: Gust, Bug Bite, Sweet Scent.

Glowstick(F)
Moves: Encore, Quick Attack. Some to be discovered.

Current story: Hope in Hoenn
