Team Building / Rate my Team: Battle Subway Doubles Choice
« on: June 07, 2013, 20:15 »
Please rate my team for battle subway doubles:

Garchomp @ Choice Band
Jolly nature, 252 Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
-Earthquake
-Outrage
-Rock Slide
-Aqua Tail

This guy is a physical powerhouse. As the only physical attacker on the team, there is a lot of weight is on his shoulders. Very few pokemon can take a banded STAB earthquake from his monstrous attack, especially with Zapdos firing off discharges or heat waves to cover flyers and resists. Most pokemon that would survive this combination are dragons. Enter Outrage. No pokemon likes taking a banded STAB outrage from Garchomp. Rock slide is only used if Earthquake is not an option, and if flinch is important. Aqua tail if all else fails.. but it's pretty much never used..

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Timid nature, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
-Discharge
-Heat Wave
-HP Ice/ HP Grass/ Substitute
-Roost

Zapdos is the only member of the team with the freedom to use any move at any time, and is a great partner to Garchomp because they resist each other's main moves. Together, they can take out most opposition before the other team even gets a chance to do significant damage. He also provides great paralysis support. Heat wave is used when Discharge is not viable, and HP Ice could be used to pick off dragons that outrage missed, HP Grass could get rid of water-ground types, and substitute could improve longevity.

Typhlosion @ Choice Specs
Timid Nature, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
-Eruption
-Solarbeam
-Focus Blast
-Fire Blast

There is a noticeable ice weakness shared by the first two members of the team. That's where this guy comes in. With choice specs, eruption is an outright horror. It often two-hits pokemon that resist it, and neutral OHKOs are actually quite common. If anything comes out that has a fire weakness, it will be reduced to smoke and ash.

Blastoise @ Choice Scarf
Modest Nature 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Spd, 4 HP
-Water Spout
-Focus Blast/Signal Beam
-Ice Beam
-Hydro Pump

Blastoise is quite a curveball. He actually proves to be an excellent revenge killer, and the best part is, no one ever sees it coming. With choice scarf, Blastoise outspeeds nearly every pokemon in OU and deals MASSIVE damage with water spout. He is also not often targeted because Typhlosion appears to be a more imminent threat, so he can maintain his health and water spout's power. Paired up with Typhlosion's eruption, opposing pokemon are carried from the battlefield in pairs.

General Pokémon Discussion / Re: Moves Pokemon Should Get
« on: June 07, 2013, 19:39 »
Sneasel/Weavile to learn Ice Punch naturally though level up. I mean, seriously? You ca't even get it to learn ice punch in 5th gen unless you breed one with a 4th gen one that had it taught to it by the freaking move tutor. >.0

Psycho Cut should be a Move Tutor move, Weavile could definitely defend against fighting types with that.

Also when I first played through Platinum I was wondering when my Staraptor would learn Sky Uppercut. Since it learned Close Combat...

I wish more fire types learned electric moves like Thunderbolt. Typhlosion for example.

I agree with most of this..
Weavile should absolutely learn ice punch through level up. It is quite a pain getting Ice punch, a move no weavile should be without. Also, psycho cut would be an excellent addition to his rather shallow movepool, since right now the only thing Weavile has to deal with fighting types (which it dreads) is aerial ace, which is effectively useless without technician. I think weavile should learn more high-power moves in general. With its frailty, in addition to weaknesses of many priority moves, it has literally no time to set up a swords dance and sweep. It's a great hinderance that its two best STABs are only 75 base power...

Staraptor should not learn sky uppercut because first of all, it doesn't have fists, making an uppercut impossible, and secondly, close combat is a better move and it can U-turn to remove the stat reduction.

Typhlosion with Thunderbolt would ruin anything in its path. He can already learn thunderpunch (I think) so why not give him an electric move he can actually use with his significantly higher special attack?

Well, that is how evolution works irl..

I have a evolutionary chain that would look good paturisu into emolga at level up with super fang

I originally thought that Emolga evolved from Pachirisu (or whatever it's called, I hate it anyway) but was unimpressed to find that was not the case. In any event, I agree that they should be evolutionarily (is that a word?) related. I also don't see the need for Pikachu, Raichu, Pichu, Plusle, Minun, Pachirisu, and Emolga. Seriously, it's bad enough that Pikachu and Raichu are ultimately useless competitive-wise. Stop making electric rodents that are worthless pokedex fillers. Many electric pokemon have enough trouble not sucking as-is.

I also agree with whoever said they need more split evo's. I think every pokemon should have at least two evolutions (excluding legendaries). Split evo's are a really cool aspect of the game. Remember Gen I when you couldn't decide what to do with your Eevee? Most other newly caught pokemon already have their fate decided based on the lack of options. Those electric rodents could all be one big happy sucky family. And they could also lump together purrloin, skitty, and glameow. I think the stones (and other evolution items) should be used more. That would be so awesome if you could use a thunderstone on growlithe to form a cheetah-dog hybrid with awesome typing (just stay away from ground attacks) Or if you could trade Growlithe holding a dragon scale to make an Arcanine-like Chinese Dragon.

Team Building / Sun Donphan
« on: March 19, 2013, 20:50 »
I'm looking at using Donphan on my sun team as a spinner. I know he'd work well as a defensive pivot/wall, but he also has a pretty beastly attack, and the ability to dismantle Ninetales, Heatran and Tyranitar.. Should it be offensive or defensive?

@Leftovers (Probably)
-Rapid Spin
-Stealth Rock
-Earthquake
-Ice Shard

Adamant, 252 Atk, 252 HP, 4 Def
or Impish 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 SpDef

If he is defensive, then it will pretty much be the same as my Hippowdon, except rapid spin instead of slack off, and ice shard's priority over ice fang's (minimally) higher power.. But similar stats, typing and role. I'm just afraid he won't survive as the offensive variant.

I actually named my Porygon Matlab, and my Metagross Matrix, in case anyone uses Matlab.. Might rouse a chuckle.

Techtonix the Steelix because of plate tectonics and also he's a teched out Onix. I saw that in one of the previous games I think when someone's Steelix died. (?)
Also, Donut the Donphan because I remember that episode where he rolled around like a tire idk.

Dark and Fighting is resisted by Heracross and Toxicroak. The unresisted combo you're likely confusing it with is Dark and Ghost, which is indeed unresisted.

Oh yes, that's right.. I also forgot about Scrafty, who is Dark/Fighting, and a badass. Ghost fighting would be really cool too.. Like a fighting spirit of some sort..

I also made up a Ghost/Normal Pokemon, which I think is really cool typing, since it is immune to both of its own STABs and Fighting attacks, so pokes that use the now unresisted Ghost&Fighting combo as their only two attacking moves couldn't even touch it. It's based off of a possum.. Because they're like zombie rats IMO.

If only I could get a design job at GameFreak.. Sigh..

Fire/Grass would be an amazing pokemon, especially if it got Rock Head, base attack over 115 and base speed over 105. Flare Blitz/Wood Hammer/Stone Edge/Swords Dance would be an amazing set.

Or Head Smash instead of Stone Edge. It would wreck everything.

Fire/Grass with chlorophyll could be useful, depending on the weather situation in the coming metagame. Finally a chlorophyll Pokémon with STAB + Sun boost fire? Yes please.

As for my favourite types, water and ground. Quagsire4life.

I actually made up a pokemon that I wish they'd finally just create. It's based off of a jack-o-lantern/scarecrow. It's fire/grass, with chlorophyll or flash fire. It would be so awesome with a bit of Special Attack and Speed.

Anyways, I really thought Lucario would be Dark/Fighting when he came out, which would be kind of cool since fighting has only two weaknesses and Dark completely neutralizes one of them. Also, it's a STAB combo that's unresisted.

I'd also like to see a Fighting/Flying pokemon.. I've wanted this ever since Staraptor came with Close Combat, which is a total blessing.

I honestly think that every possible type combo should exist, just for diversity's sake.

Games General / Re: Shiny Pokemon
« on: January 16, 2013, 15:39 »
Let's see..
The first shiny I got was a Pidgey in Leafgreen.. It's now Pidgeot, I named it Marahute (Rescuer's Down Under, anyone?)
Next was an Onix in Diamond
Of course, I got the event shiny Suicune and Entei (in both Diamond and Platinum, I'm so pissed I missed Raikou with Aura Sphere and Weather Ball)
Then a little blitzle in White
I hatched a Weezing in white to try Masuda method. It looks awesome. His name is Jupiter.
My most recent shiny was actually a cyndaquil  got with Masuda method. Took forever. Very nice red.

Speaking of cyndaquil.. I need some help. He came out with an Adamant nature. He has pretty good IV's (I tried).. but I'm not sure what my options are since his Typhlosion's attack is low, and now his special attack is hindered. Help????

I wanted him to be a special sun sweeper with Eruption, Solarbeam, Focus Blast, and Protect.. But now Idk

I'm far more interested in Lightningrod as an ability :D

How do you even get a Lightningrod Zapdos? That would be quite a gem.

It annoys me that Dragonite, Moltres, and Volcarona got Hurricane.
Dragonite because of his monstrous Attack and just passable Special Attack
Moltres and Volcarona because it puts them in an awkward position since one their stab is weakened by rain
And Volcarona isn't even flying type!! There were so many flying types that should have gotten that move over the moth.

Alas, Dragonite remains the only Poke that can learn both Thunder and Hurricane, so I shall use him on a rain team.
