I've been wondering about this. If Delta Emerald is released, then it'd be Wallace in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire and Juan in Delta Emerald.
This would mess up with the timeline though. OR/AS would be [insert number of years here] after R/S, so...it wouldn't be likely to change back to Wallace in OR/AS and then back to Juan again in Delta Emerald.
DONT LET THE PEOPLE ON STAGE LEFT KNOW THE SCRIPT
The producers have said it's a 'direct remake', so I'd have thought it'd be in the same time period as the original RS? FRLG, for instance, took place at the same time as Red and Blue, otherwise your rival wouldn't be champion, Red/Lance would.
It can't be the same time period, due to the existence of the Mega Evolutions and Primal Kyogre/Groudon. There is also a new character called Aarune who teaches you about secret bases. The storyline would have to be changed quite substantially to account for all of these new things.
In FRLG, the Sevii Islands were added, but it was still in the same time period. They can change storyline and it still be considered the same timezone. I mean, it's a bit ridiculous to assume that Groudon and Kyogre fight three times (RS, E, ORAS) in the space of a like a decade when they hadn't thought previously for millennia, isn't it?
The Sevii Islands are just additions to the map and don't really impact the storyline in the same way as the new things in OR/AS. The discovery of Mega Evolutions, etc., would have to occur afterwards, though we don't know the exact amount of time that would have elapsed. It could be closer to a year than a decade, it's unwise to assume that the events occur at the same time as the release dates of the games.
