Confirmed:
- The patterns were assigned based on climate zones.
- Each country has a pool of possible patterns.
- You only can find one pattern in the wild.
- If you get a Scatterbug from another player, it will evolve into the pattern from that player.
- When you breed Vivillon, your region assigns the pattern regardless its parents.
- Once you started playing, changing your settings doesn't affect the pattern you get.

Not confirmed:
- How is your country exactly assigned? Settings? Hard-coded? Wi-Fi?
- How is your pattern exactly assigned? Random? Based on your province or state?
- What happens if you change your settings, reset your save and start a new one?

I'm sorry, but this is really awesome. I'm gonna make sure to catch a bunch of Southern UK Garden Vivillions and put them on Wonder Trade for other players to enjoy. I hope I get some good ones too, the Sun Vivillion looks awesome. I'm so happy about this news as I took a real liking to Vivillon the first time I saw it.

Okay so probably my last topic on X/Y until it gets released as I think I'm happy with what I know right now and I want the rest of the game to surprise me.

Basically, I've got two chunks of information for you

Firstly, official info from a Japanese interview with Masuda and Yoshida revealed the following game mechanic changes:

  • Pokémon gain experience even when the opposing wild Pokémon is caught (as stated in another interview). A caught Pokémon gives the same experience points as a defeated one.
  • Sky Battles are limited to Flying-type Pokémon and those with the Levitate ability (as previously confirmed). Some moves can't be used.
  • There is an adjustment to the inheritence system of breeding.
  • Ghost-type Pokemon can freely escape from battle without being influenced by Shadow Tag. (The official website mentioned trapping moves.)
  • The item Exp. Share will revert to Exp. All as in Generation I, where when one Pokémon holding this item participates in battle, all other Pokémon in the team receive experience as well. Unlike in Generation I, the experience is not split but rather received by all Pokémon. This means that the participating Pokemon receive 100% experience, while non-participating Pokémon receive 50% experience.
  • When distributing new moves and abilities, priority was given to new Pokémon.
  • The CGI style is different from that of Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Battle Revolution, because those games were supposed to emulate "realism within fantasy". Since the handheld Pokémon series is supposed to be accessible to everyone, battles were made "cuter".
  • The standard selection process for Pokémon to be Mega-Evolvable is based on three points: visual looks, popularity and game balance.
  • The power-up of Mega-Evolved Pokemon is meant to elevate them to the class of legendary Pokémon, hence the restriction of only one Pokémon being allowed to hold a Mega Stone during battles.
  • The timing to Mega-Evolve is selectable.
  • Some moves, with focus on special ones, have had their power and accuracy revamped.

Okay, now lets talk rumours. Why are these rumours in particular important? Well, you've probably seen me referring to 'the source' a few times over the months. This person's rumors were spread over a number of websites and turned out to be true. From english names to type chart changes...stuff you couldn't guess if you tried.

These rumors come from the person who knew the original 'source' so there is a weight to them but remember they are of course - just rumours.

  • Trusk is a Grass/Rock boar Pokemon with long green tusks coming out of its mouth. He is gruff, has grey skin, and features green leaf-like ears. It has an "adorable" pre-evolution with tiny tusks and a leaf at the end of its tail.
  • A Normal/Poison porcupine Pokemon named Quillom can be found quite early in the game in the forest. It has white skin with light purple quills. He has a Poison-type quill attack which damages and has a high chance of poison.
  • A Ghost-type spider Pokemon is found in caves. It is dark gray with blue spots and multiple light grey eyes. It has a feint light blue mist around its abdomen. The source doesn't remember the spelling of its name, but says it was something like "Apparachnid." He thinks it may have an evolution.
  • There is a Ground-type badger Pokemon that is dark brown with black stripes going up its face. It knows Slash and a new biting move.
  • Reconfirmation that Froakie's final evolution is Water/Fighting. It looks similar to a poison dart frog. The dark blue now takes over its body almost entirely. There are a few even darker (almost black) spots on his sides and face and it gains more of the bubble foam around its neck and down the back. It's also a bit bulkier. It uses its hind legs a lot and has kicking attacks.
  • Bunnelby evolves into a Ground/Dark type rabbit that is larger and much rounder. Its color scheme is reversed, with the dark brown now being the prominent color. It can be found in caves. It is useful because you can get it early in the game and use it to evolve Pancham into Pangoro.
  • Helioptile has an evolution. It is bipedal with a second yellow triangle on its face. Its ears become more jagged and it looks meaner. On its back are what look like spikes with jagged parts at the very top. It can learn a new attack called Thunder Roll, where it rolls up like a wheel and strikes the opponent.
  • Reconfirmation that Meowstic has a pre-evolution named Espurr. There is no gender differentiation until it evolves. It is mostly white, similar to the female version, with cuter eyes and a single puffy tail. It has a little patch of fur under its head (similar to its evolutions). The fur is dark blueish with little tufts of white in it.
  • Other Pokemon that are now Fairy-type: the Chansey evolution line, Dunsparce, the Clefairy line, and Togepi's line.
  • Fairy Dust is a new move that will randomly cause either Paralysis, Poison, Sleep, or Burn.
  • Like Magneton, Wailmer is part of one of the Super Training Facility games.
  • Team Flare makes an appearance right at the beginning of the game. On the TV in your house, one of its members talks about fashion and how your Pokemon should match your style. Team Flare's signature music has an eerie accordion sound to it in the opening sequence.
  • The outfit your character wears at the start is colored to match what you've set as your favorite color in your 3DS settings. It can be changed easily though.
  • he opening cinematic is in 3D. (Have to mention this since most of the game isn't in stereoscopic 3D. :p) It starts off with Yveltal's cry, which wakes you up. You sit up in your bed. It then pans and there is a shot of your city. Yveltal's shadow goes over it. After that there is some other shots of your town. You seem amazed that you saw Yveltal. It then shows generic in-game shots like you entering a forest with your friends, selecting your starter, running through a cave, etc. After that it shows Sycamore welcoming you. You are standing outside of his lab at the time, then he takes you inside. It then shows him showing you three Poke Balls which leads into a transformation video where it shows all three Kanto starters evolving to their final forms, and then the three of them Mega Evolving. It's a really cool cinematic. The video ends with Yveltal flying with the sun behind him, leading in to the title screen. Team Flare is also shown at some point in the sequence.
  • On the title screen you can use the analog joystick on your 3DS to change the angle at which you see Xerneas/Yveltal.

General Pokémon Discussion / Unlicensed Crappy Crap
« on: September 17, 2013, 19:01 »
This thread is a best of the worst of all the knock-off 'Pokemon' merchandise that's out there. Post anything you find or any stories you have of Pokemon knock-off goods, doesn't have to be your own pictures or stories. If you've made a discovery on eBay or a website actually trying to sell the goods...don't post a link to it. We don't want to look like we're condoning this stuff, just having a laugh at how unfortunately terrible it can be.

Gonna start with some random internet finds:

Is that....Tweety Pie's face superimposed onto Pikachu?

Gaming / The Nintendo 2DS
« on: August 29, 2013, 15:11 »
The Nintendo 2DS has been announced. Yes you heard that correctly.

http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/53839/nintendo-2ds-hands-on-impressions-release-date-price/

The 2DS is a budget version of the 3DS, with an unfold-able design, no 3D toggle and a single Mono speaker. It is aimed at budget buyers and children but otherwise retains all the functionality of the 3DS.

It is wedge shaped, the top half as thick as a folded 3DS and the bottom half as thin as an unfolded 3DS. It is as wide as an unfolded 3DS, it may fit into large pockets but will mainly be more suitable to bags.

It will be released on the 12th of October 2013 (Same day as Pokemon X/Y's release) and has an RRP of $129.99 in North America and £109.99 in the UK

..And a lot of it is similar to the ideas I had for balancing the game earlier in the year, surprised?

Now that the dust has settled from the Pokemon Game Show demo, some information about how Pokemon-Amie affects battles:

Quote
The unique feature with Pokémon Amie is that after you have utilised the feature, you will come to see various effects in battle. These features range from superficial to largely beneficial for the trainer which allows for greater strategy in battle. Most of them occur randomly, with the rate currently unclear. The effects known are as follows

Text: The introduction message, and various statements throughout battle change in context
Critical Hit Ratio: The ratio of Critical Hits is increased
Evasion: The Pokémon's evasion is increased

The following may be attributed to Pokémon Amie based on the visual representation, but it still isn't clear

Paralysis: The Pokémon has a chance of healing itself from paralysis
Survival: The Pokémon has a chance of enduring a hit which would have knocked it out

Thoughts on this? I wonder how much it will interfere with online play (if at all).

X and Y/OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire / Pokemon Game Show - LIVE
« on: August 17, 2013, 04:12 »
The Pokemon Game Show is currently live in Japan where visitors can try out a demo of X/Y.

It's kind of late so I will come back and go into more details but here's the low-down.

Pictures are being continually uploaded here: http://img.ly/images/raim2005?page=1

Details so far:

-You can ride on Skiddo (Gogoat's pre-evo)
-Mega evolutions are initiated by touching a separate button in combat (on the same screen as the 4 other battle buttons)
-Fennekin used the move Psybeam
-The male rival looks to be a nasty rival instead of a nice guy
-Running is default with the analog stick, you hold B to walk.
-There are 3 stats in Pokemon-amie: Play/Friendliness/Hunger

Also, Pokemon Origins has been announced - an anime that will run alongside X/Y based on the Pokemon Adventures setting and follow Red in Pallet town as he battles his rival Green and challenges gym leader Brock. The PKMN.NET thread for this is here!

EDIT: I can't confirm for true just yet but it looks like there is a new type logo in the TCG which could well represent Fairy type. I know it's not quite X/Y related but still.

At the Pokemon Game show it's just been announced that a new series will run alongside Pokemon X/Y - Pokemon The Origin (or Pokemon Origins).

The show will be based around the Pokemon Adventures manga and will feature Red battling alongside Green and challenging the gym leader Brock.

Holy crap!! People have asked for this for YEARS! Mega news!

Music / Where do you get your music?
« on: July 30, 2013, 22:14 »
Simple question really, where do you get your music from? Streaming services like internet radio, pandora or Spotify? CDs? iTunes store? Amazon mp3? Anywhere else?

Okay so if you've spent any time on the internet in the past year or so, you will have no doubt caught wind of a wave of Feminism that has really become a trending topic particularly thanks to places like tumblr and their predominantly female userbase. No doubt you will have seen the 'I need feminism because ______' meme which has spread all the way to sites like YouTube and Facebook too.

Conversely, on sites like Reddit there is a growing trend for young adult males, (Particularly My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic fans) known as 'Fedoras' for their penchant for well...wearing fedoras, who complain that they are 'nice guys' and that women are mean to them and put them in the 'friend zone' instead of dating them.

An SJW is a 'Social Justice Warrior' - someone who blogs intently, challenging the current social system and all its wrongdoings and marginalization. Many feminists also fall under this title, they can be extremely militant and often command straight/cis/white/able/skinny/etc. people to 'check their privilege'.

The whole topic is pretty convoluted and I can only hope the majority of people here know what I'm talking about or else this topic is gonna fall flat on its face.

Where do you place yourself on the feminism compass? Misogynist? Misandrist? Radfem? MRA? Do you think the whole thing is a load of crap that you'd rather not get involved in or are you behind the movement 100%?

tl;dr: let's all have a rape culture/nice guys/misogyny/fedora/feminism/SJW blow-out debate and call each other mean names (not really)

Holy baconbites I'm really having my work cut out for me this week. It looks like the first corocoro leaks have...leaked revealing new Pokemon and new characters. Bare with me while I post it all here. Jesus, there's really no shortage of info is there?

I haven't really bothered looking at these in detail, I'm just going to post them first and then edit with info.

This is Furabebe the Single Flower Pokemon (Note this also translates as 'one moon' or 'one cycle'). It is Fairy type, uses the Fairy Wind attack and is 0.1m tall and 0.1kg. It works in Symbiosis with its flower. It naturally holds a flower and as soon as it is born it automatically discovers it's favorite flower to hold on to which it keeps its whole life, which is why it's a different colour to the flower. It has the power to hide itself in and manipulate the flower at will.

This is Shishiko, the young lion Pokemon (Text reads じし but makes more sense to be しし (lion) so I'm not sure if it's a pun or something). It is Fire/Normal and is 0.6m and 13.5kg. It has a new move called Warcry which lower's the opponent's attack. It's a very energetic Pokemon that likes to get into scuffles, it's red mane flares up in battles and gets extra-hot when facing a tough opponent. As they grow older they separate from their pack and live alone.

This is Pansy (On the left) and Viola on the right. I *think* Pansy is the professor. Viola is a Gym-leader (and Journalist) from the first gym found in Hakudan City, she uses Bug-type. Pansy is going to make her anime appearance along with Gogoat & Helioptile on July 18th (Which further leads me to believe she's the new professor).

The three characters shown here, are Sana (The young girl with pigtails) Tieruno (Fat guy with the Vanillish T-shirt) and Toroba (Small ginger haired kid). You start off in Asame Town and the Rhyhorn shown in the garden on the 2nd trailer is indeed real (and can be ridden as we learned from the roundtable). You (The protagonist) just moved in and all four of you start your adventure at the same time. The opposite gender player (Callum/Serena) is also in your hometown too.

Vivillon, Kofukimushi & Kofuurai - The regional bug line of Kalos. Kofukimushi & Kofuurai are pure Bug-type and Vivillon is Bug/Flying. Kofukimushi is 0.3m and weighs 2.5kg, Kofuurai is 0.3m and weighs 8.4kg

That's everything, there's some stuff that I can't make out because it's a little blurry but we might get a few trickles of new info when clearer scans emerge (Or if we get more scans). All in all I seem to have a more concise translation than some other places I've read from, which I'm quite happy about.

Gaming / E3 - What were your highlights?
« on: June 12, 2013, 01:13 »
So, we're pretty much done with the big E3 reveals for the most part. What were your highlights, best bits, worst bits, favorite games?

I thought Microsoft really dropped the ball with the XBone, too expensive, too many limitations, not enough of a focus on the games, the ones revealed were standard run n gun shoot em ups which don't do much for me and I think they're probably a pretty tired concept at this point too.

Microsoft's whole display was pretty sad, I'm swear a lot of the games were actually running on PC instead of the console itself. I wasn't the only one to notice a backspace icon on one of the FPS titles..Then there was the (psuedo) rape joke which really didn't do them any favours.

Sony really impressed me, I never bother with home consoles but I might get the PS4 if it drops in price. FFXV and Kingdom Hearts 3 looked excellent (FFXV looked scarily realistic at some parts), the price was low-ish, the graphics looked better than the XBone, the lineup was more impressive, better support for indie developers, region free...etc. Was pretty funny watching the new Assassin's Creed lag out and stop working.

Nintendo...most relevant to my interests, holy crap it was awesome. Pokemon as we all know has caused a storm, SSB looks friggin' awesome (WII FIT WOMAN) and Mario Kart 8 makes me want to get a Wii U, the 3d tracks is such a neat idea, I always wondered how they could keep Mario Kart fresh but I think they just nailed it.

Holy crap, did anyone watch the EA reveal? Awkward silences all around, the bizzare basketball rap that had everyone speechless, CONTROLLING THE BALLS, the awkward moment when the pre-recorded cheering tape stopped during the UFC game reveal and a few people clapped...I was laughing the whole time.

Probably one of the funniest E3s in a long time, if I was EA I would have wanted the ground to swallow me up whole. That was seriously embarrassing.

What did everyone else think of E3? Anything you're particularly excited for?

EDIT: And how could I forget, THIS MOMENT. It's even on their official YouTube channel! Hahaha oh man.

A teaser for Pokemon X/Y has just been shown on the Nintendo E3 conference - a new type was announced:

FAIRY TYPE.

Fairy Pokemon include Sylveon, Jigglypuff, Marril and Gardevoir!

There is also a new Nintendogs-esque bonding mechanic where you can pet your Pokemon and feed them snacks!

A new Pokemon was revealed, it looks like some kind of bat thing???

EDIT: Here's the updated info:

The new type is Fairy type, it is strong against Dragon type.

The new nintendogs-esque feature is called Pokemon-Aime

There are 2 new Pokemon revealed, a steel butterfly with pink wings called Vivillon and a Braviary/Bat looking Pokemon with huge speaker-like ears called Noviern that uses a move called Boomburst.

I didn't get the names of the new moves, I'll try looking them up

The move names were:

Fairy Wind
Moon Blast
Boomburst

Here's an ENGLISH video of the teaser on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmywDbnC5oc.

You can even use the 3DS front mounted cameras to copy the expressions of your Pokemon to make them happy. Holy crap that might be the cutest thing I've ever heard.

UPDATE: The roundtable is complete and loads of great info has been gathered/reported.

This information was a combination of Pokemon's Official twitter feed and an IGN correspondant called Rich who was also tweeting and did a really great job of giving us more than Pokemon's (predictably modest) updates so big thanks to him.

I didn't tweet everything that was mentioned but I did tweet all the new info, so if you want to look at some extra context and how the event played out check out both of the accounts on twitter:

https://twitter.com/RichIGN
https://twitter.com/Pokemon

Here's the info:

  • Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will refine the core aspects of Pokémon games: collecting, battling, and trading.
  • There are over 800,000 Japanese characters in the game, which translates to 1.4 million words in English!
  • Players will be able to choose 1 of 7 languages to play the game (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, or Korean)
  • The new PSS (Player Search System) will allow players to search for others locally or globally (via Wi-Fi) to battle and trade.
  • PSS is on lower screen of 3DS, tracks Friends, Acquaintances, and Passersby.
  • Tracks two ways - local wireless and the Internet.
  • You can basically be connected with other players all around the world at all times.
  • Passersby - PSS recognizes other players playing XY. If you interact with one of anyone on that list, they become an Acquaintance.
  • Acquaintances can then become Friends. And you can log and access up to 100 Favorites of any of those three categories of interactions.
  • Various options for battles. There is a default set, but you can change things re: special Pokemon and other rules.
  • Skrelp is a Poison- and Water-type Pokémon. Clauncher is a Water-type Pokémon.
  • Just saw a main character grinding down a rail. Definitely character clothing customization options (though how many I'm not sure).
  • Camera placements move around. Split-screen views and more
  • Because a Passerby was battled, that Passer has now become an Acquaintance.
  • Just saw Save Screen showing a Pokedex count of 113 Pokemon and 8 Badges.
  • If you interact more than once, the game will ask if you want an Acquaintance to become a Friend. Pretty easy system.
  • Mr. Masuda just hinted that interacting with Pokémon in Pokémon-Amie will have an additional benefit in battle!
  • A new battle scenario has just been announced! Get ready for Horde Encounters!
  • 5-against-1 battles? That's gonna be tough!
  • Strong bond [From Pokemon Aime] will result in more critical hits or better dodging.
  • Time to talk about battles: introducing Horde Encounters. (Axnew, Tauros being shown as examples.)
  • But a Horde might include a variety of different Pokemon. Not just 1 type. Designed to make wild encounters more thrilling.
  • Dilemma: only introducing strong Pokemon in battles would ruin the balance, because you can capture. So - Hordes. Challenge but balanced.
  • Just like any typical RPG, you make 1 attack, and then all of the Horde will attack.
  • Now introducing Sky Battles.
  • Mr. Masuda is showing a video of a Gogoat encountering a horde of Houndour. Horde Encounters look intense!
  • Another new type of battle has been announced! Prepare for Sky Battles!
  • Only some Flying-type Pokémon (and a few others) can enter a Sky Battle. Mr. Masuda is demoing now!
  • Trainers will challenge you to Sky Battles. Limited set of Pokemon can participate - mostly Flying types.
  • If you don't have any Pokemon that can engage in a Sky Battle, you can't enter the challenge. Seeing a live demo now.
  • Talonflame, a new Fire- and Flying-type Pokémon, has just been revealed in a Sky Battle demo against Noctowl!
  • Very dynamic camera, taking a variety of positions through the air. Night time scene looks fantastic. Talonflame vs. Noctowl.
  • Haunter has a levitate ability so it can fight in a Sky Battle. Now fighting a Aerodactyl.
  • Talonflame has just been switched out for Haunter! But wait...Haunter isn't a Flying-type Pokémon...
  • That's all we're getting in terms of gameplay details. Q&A coming up now.
  • Q: Multiple save files? A: No. Just one.
  • Q: Importing Pokemon from previous games? A: They're working on it. DS/3DS comm. barrier is slightly tricky.
  • Q: Will there be DLC? A: Hoped that wouldn't be asked, but they are exploring the possibilities. No announcements.
  • Q: Explanation for Fairy type being discovered and applying to older Pokemon? A: Dragon type has had an advantage. Wanted balance.
  • Q: How many new Pokemon? A: No comment.
  • Q: Why base this location on France? A: France has a focus on a beauty and that was a focus for X&Y. Wanted to see how to express.
  • Q: Considered tweaking EV and IV to make being competitive easier? A: X&Y will make some of these ideas more visible and intuitive.
  • Q: Depth of customization? A: You can choose hair style, set appearance. PSS shows player icons so chose to allow for custom appearance.
  • Q: Player movement appears to be 8-way. Why not full analog? A: Keeping a grid-style bc of tracking Pokemon encounters. But freer movement.
  • Q: Didn't hear buuut A: Music will have different feel than past games bc it's less modified/compressed than in older games.
  • Q: How does Mewtwo change form? Do you want him in Smash? A: -long pause- Can't explain "Mewthree" Pokemon. Can't talk about other games. Sakurai just chimed in (joking) - "We're thinking about it."
  • Q: New or old villain team? Form of rival? A: "You can expect to see a Team 'Something'" There's a Rival, but maybe not just one.
  • Pokemon X&Y will read your registered friends list from the 3DS system, so the game will automatically have those people as your friends.
  • Some areas have different types of methods of getting around. (i.e. we've seen the grinding and so on). Depends on area.
  • Flow of battles - seeing opponent's team ahead of time - is the same as before. You can select the song for the battle though.
  • Q: Riding Pokemon - benefits? Diff from bike? A: Sounds like you can 'borrow' Pokemon to traverse to destinations. Can help open paths too.

And I think we're pretty much done.

Pokemon's official twitter said they'll post a recap video tomorrow which will probably show you the main features outlined above. I'll add this to the first post tomorrow as it comes, but right now it's nearly 4am and I'm tired as hell so I'm off to bed. Enjoy the info.

Here's the new footage outlining some of the features mentioned above: Gameplay Trailer 3

New Pokemon:

Talonflame

An evolved form of the recently announced Fletchling, Talonflame is a Fire- and Flying-type Pokémon that gains a whole new level of speed and firepower. It dives at foes, and then attacks with devastating kicks. When the battle heats up, flames will pour from its body as it zooms through the sky. Talonflame can learn Brave Bird, one of the strongest Flying-type moves. It also damages the user.

Type:    Fire/Flying
Height:    3' 11"
Weight:    54.0 lbs.

Clauncher

Clauncher is easily recognizable by the oversized claw on one of its arms. This useful claw can seize prey and shoot water at others as a projectile! Clauncher's enormous claw can also crack boulders when the Pokémon is at close range.

Type:    Water
Height:    1' 08"
Weight:    18.3 lbs.

Skrelp

Disguised by its shape, Skrelp pretends to be a piece of seaweed. When prey gets too close, Skrelp bathes it in poison to keep it from struggling. Skrelp can learn Sludge Bomb, which may leave the opposing Pokémon poisoned.

Type:    Poison/Water
Height:    1' 08"
Weight:    16.1 lbs.

Region: Kalos
Your adventure in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y takes place in the Kalos region, home to beautiful skies and forests! The Kalos region is full of interesting places to visit and explore! The mysterious Kalos region is shaped intriguingly like a star.

Main city: Lumiose City
The central city of the Kalos region is Lumiose City, a thriving metropolis filled with customers checking out its variety of shops. Many roads extend from the iconic tower at the city's center.

New Pokemon:

Helioptile
Helioptile charges itself by bathing in the light of the sun, providing it with enough energy that it doesn't need to eat! Helioptile can learn the new Parabolic Charge move, which heals the user for half the damage it deals to enemies.

Fletchling
With a friendly nature and a beautiful chirp, Fletchling is a popular Pokémon among many Trainers. But Fletchling is also known to be ferocious in battle, capable of unleashing relentless attacks! One potent move Fletchling can learn is Flame Charge, which increases the user’s Speed in addition to dealing damage.

Gogoat
Gogoat is so large that people are able to able to ride on its back. It's very calm, and can form a strong bond with its Trainer's feelings when its Trainer grabs onto its horns. Gogoat can learn Horn Leech, which will recover HP equal to half the damage dealt. It's handy when Gogoat's HP is low!

Pancham
With its trademark leaf always sticking out of its mouth, Pancham tries to intimidate its opponents by glaring at them intensely (although this is rarely successful). Parting Shot is a new move that Pancham can learn. The user lowers the target's Attack and Special Attack, then switches itself out for another Pokémon in the party.

At certain points you'll be able to get new outfits and accessories for your Trainer! You'll be able to see the clothing you choose as you explore the Kalos region! You can go back and change your outfit whenever you like.

Trailer Screenshots

And here's a bonus, wallpaper edition of the new region so you can see it in high-definition glory. Nice to see what I was wrong/right about!:

30
Okay so we finally have some art/info on the new region and I came across a big scan and decided to look into some bits, glean some stuff other people have noticed and post it here. We've got some decent info now so I think we can avoid using the same threads to discuss new stuff, especially in detail.

First off, here's the region scan in it's untouched glory if you want to have a look and point stuff out: http://i43.tinypic.com/nwnedh.jpg

Here's the modified version which you can see I've circled the stuff I want to talk about:

A few things spring to mind immediately, at a glance:

1) The region is definitely based on France. I don't think there were many doubts about this from the first trailer; the Eiffel tower lookalike, rollerskating, Palace of Versailles, Froakie (lol) etc. The shape of the region is very similar to France:

Keep this picture in mind because there are some interesting references I noticed.

2) The region itself is very green but actually very diverse too, I'm guessing the rivers aren't there for show only and we'll be using many of them to surf to areas otherwise inaccessible, should be a very interesting region with lots of small tucked away areas.

3) The name 'Karos' (Karosu) will probably change in the English version. So take that as you will.

Anyway. Some of the areas I want to mention:

Red Circle

Pretty obvious one this, the red circle looks like the marketplace city we've seen on some of the scans, particularly where the player is riding on Gogoat. In these screens the huge tower (also shown in the trailer) can be seen which means that this is going to be the main 'hub' of activity. I think this is good because it looks like we'll see a very non-linear map this time around. I'm expecting it to be pretty cosmopolitan but maybe not quite the urban sprawl of Castellia City. It pretty much seems to match the exact location of Paris on the map, which would mean that the Palace we saw in the trailer (Pictured Below) would be just offset to the west of this:

Black Circle

This seems like one huge icy area, possibly the biggest area dedicated to snow and ice we've seen in a Pokemon game so far. If you look at the France map above, I'm going to assume this is the representation of the border between France and Switzerland to the east of the region. I'm expecting snow, ice and mountains (Yeti Pokemon?) and I can also see a river flowing through, so I guess there will be some interesting ice fishing possibilities (Lapras, Seel etc?).

Directly above the black circle is a place in the mountains covered in cloud, I'm going to guess this is the Pokemon League/Victory Road, these areas are normally covered in clouds when we see the region art. I can't imagine the icy area being full of low-level Pokemon (Looking at ice type evolution levels) so I'm going to guess the icy area is just before victory road. The icy area seems to extend all the way southwards to a big snowy city in the centre of the forest, probably based on the french city of Grenoble situated near the alps. No doubt linked to the mainland from the caves just westwards.

Yellow/Orange Circle

This is a cool one, this perfectly matches up with the Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy on a map and looks very much like it from the region art too:

The Mont Saint-Michel is really interesting because not only does it look frigging awesome, it famously houses the statue of Saint-Michel slaying the dragon so I guess this is going to be the place to find dragon types similar to Dragonspiral tower in Unova. Maybe there will be a Dragon-type gym there too. It's a really huge place surrounded in sandy wetlands, I'm guessing this is where Sandile will be found.

Green Circle

This is no doubt Bordeaux, probably focusing more on the beaches than the city itself (Though I imagine there will be a city too). I'm guessing this area will be the main 'Tropical ocean' surfing area akin to Undella Bay, possibly a water-type gym leader here? I'm guessing there will be more of a sunny hot weather theme here, being closer to Spain and such. I've always liked these areas.

I'm guessing it's going to lean towards a combination of Bordeaux and the Basque Coast, very close to the Spanish border

Purple Circle

As far as the map goes, this will probably be based on Amiens, home to the Amiens Cathedrale which (In my opinion) we saw in the X/Y trailer with the pillars of fire. I initially thought this was the Mont Saint-Michel but look at this comparison and tell me what you think:

Interestingly, if you look at the blurry map, you can see three white pillars, I wonder if this is where this screenshot is situated:

It seems pretty rocky and craggy much like the region map seems to suggest but honestly I can't find any observatory or something similar in the area (Though I haven't looked much, I'll update if I find what it could be).

Brown Circle

This looks to be the right area for the city of Montpellier, right in the South of France near the Mediterranean (So it should be a warmish area). I think on the map we're seeing an image of a structure similar to the Porte du Peyrou.

There's also an area obscured by clouds which would be the perfect location for Nice on the map, there may be nothing there, but it seems strange that Nice wouldn't be included.

Pink Circle

Nothing spectacular here apart from a visible city of some sort, this would be the equivilent of Clermont-Ferrand on a map of France which is home to the Puy De Dome Volcano, (which is possibly situated on the mountain to the right) at least provides a possible location for some fire-type Pokemon. Here are some pictures of Clermont-Ferrand and the Puy De Dome Volcano anyway, to get your imagination going. It's not quite a stereotypical volcano:

Anyway, hope you enjoyed and I hope it's given you some things to think about. There is plenty I haven't covered so feel free to chip in with your opinions. I think this region is actually shaping up to be really cool so far, lots of deep foresty areas for Fairy Pokemon too  ;)
