I saw a livestream earlier today announcing that Gold and Silver will be getting Virtual Console releases later this year. Crystal wasn't confirmed though.
Both will be Bank compatible, like Red, Blue and Yellow.
I'm wondering how the clock will work in the Virtual Console versions. Either the games will synchronise with the 3DS somehow, or there will be some other way of doing it.

I'm happy to see Gold and Silver release on the Virtual Console, as my original copies no longer save.
I'm pretty sure you manually set the time when you receive the PokeGear in the game.

my original copies no longer save.
Replace the batteries in your cartridges like I did, I had to do that with Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald too.
-
I think that they will tweak the clock feature like they did with the Pikachu mini game in Yellow.

its coming out on the 22nd of september and i am......... ready
no price yet though
also pokemon ranger is out on virtual console too, and all the mystery dungeons... i wish i had space on my ds :(

Just 5 more days to go :D There is also a Celebi code you can get too for Sun,Moon, Ultra Sun and Moon. Hopefully you can get it by redeeming the download code in the packaged version of Gold and Silver.
-
I preordered both versions! Gold will be on my New 3DS and Silver on my 3DS XL.

I downloaded the foreign versions of Red, Blue and Yellow a while ago. I wonder if I can get the foreign versions of Gold and Silver too.

this was a mistake to say im ready for because gw2s new xpac comes out that day... @nintendo why you hate me?

I just preordered them. I also downloaded the free themes.

Gold and Silver look really nice on the 3DS. I can confirm you only get the Celebi code with the boxed version.
-
I got the code with the digital versions...all you have to do is look at the receipt
You also get two exclusive themes for your 3DS, they're pretty cool

I'm afraid that is not a complete solution, yes the games would have a new battery thus would be able to save again for a while, BUT you must remember that unless you are able to make a backup of the cartridge the save data will be erased completely upon removing the battery. In other words, unless the user is able to make security backups replacing the battery is not going to allow them to play _their_ game, they would be forced to restart instead.

When the battery runs out, regardless of whether you remove it or not, the save file is deleted anyway.

It is quite nice for RBYGSC to finally be compatible with modern games. Also, Red Gyardos on demand! (I mean sure you can get them on HGSS but Poketransporter at least gives you 31 certain IVs).
Oh and HA Lugia and Ho-oh. Assumingly,
Playing Silver reminds me of the small details HGSS forgets. Kurt at his desk crafting, Pokedex station in the morning, Goldenrod's theme soooo much better in GSC. Loved HGSS in general, but yeah I think I may prefer GSC a shade more.

Managed to hatch a shiny Weedle the other day in Gold <3

I read just now that Crystal is finally getting a virtual console release soon.
Crystal was the first game I ever completed, Pokemon or otherwise. I still haven't completed any Gen 1 games to this very day!
I'm looking forward to playing through Crystal again.
