Quote from: The Weeknd - Rolling Stone
Now you’re thinkin’ bout it
Girl you’re thinkin’ bout it
What we got here
How we - got here
They recognize
They just recognize
I’m in a life without a home so this recognition’s not enough
I don’t care about nobody else
Cause I’ve been on these streets way too long
Baby I’ve been on this too long

It’s getting faded too long
Got me on this rolling stone
So I take another hit
Kill another serotonin
With a hand full of beans
And a chest full of weed
Got me singing ’bout a -
While I’m blowing out my steam
Yeah I know I got my issues
Why you think I - flow?
And I’ma keep on smoking ’til I can’t hit another note
Ooooh, but until then

I got you
Baby I got you
Until you’re used to my face
And my mystery fades
I got you
So baby love me
Before they all love me
Until you won’t love me
Because they all left me
I’ll be different
I think I’ll be different
I hope I’m not different
And I hope you’ll still listen
But until then
Baby I got you
I got you
Girl, I still got you
I got you

More R&B awesomeness =]

Taken from one of Avenged Sevenfold's new songs:

Quote from: Not Ready To Die Lyrics
Gone cast away in time
Evil yours, now evil mine
So I robbed you blind, the voices
in my head could jest a less than
peaceful side

The endless possibilities
controlling every fight

You can't break me, crushed the
fears of yesterday
You can't change me, barriers -
our trust will fade.

I've stood in the dark, been
waiting all this time
While we damn the dead I'm
trying to survive - I'm not ready
to die

Damned, watch the masses fall
Burn it down, control 'em all
Make me crawl, to daddy's little
girl to read the writings on the wall

While cast into the nothingness
the final curtain call

You can't break me, crushed the
fears of yesterday
You can't change me, barriers -
our trust will fade.
I've stood in the dark, been
waiting all this time
While we damn the dead I'm
trying to survive - I'm not ready
to die

Through the madness we find
loyalty is no match for power
Save your body or lie, left to rot in
your darkest hour
Friends won't help you now - as
long as you're mine...

You can't break me, crushed the
fears of yesterday
You can't change me, barriers -
our trust will fade.

I've stood in the dark, been
waiting all this time
While we damn the dead I'm
trying to survive

And I'll control the world one
person at a time
As I damn the dead I'm trying to
survive - I'm not ready to die
Oh!
I'm not ready to die

Bolded are personal favourites =]
Granted it's a song about zombies, but hey, it's still got some decent lyrics in there.
No man is ever truly good.
No man is ever truly evil.
I do the things you never could,
and we won't ever be equal

Quote
sleep don't visit so i choke on sun
and the days blur into one
and the backs of my eyes
hum with things i've never done

sheets are swaying from an old clothesline
like a row of captures ghosts on old dead grass
it was never much, but we made the most

welcome home

ships are launching from my chest
some have names but most do not
if you find one please let me know what piece i've lost

peel the scars from off my back
i don't need them any more
you can throw them out
keep them in your mason jars

i've come home

all my nightmares escape my head
bar the door, please don't let them in
you were never supposed to leave
now my head is splitting at the seams
and i don't know if i can--

here, beneath my lungs
i feel your thumbs
press into my skin again

radical face - welcome home
the harmonies, the lyrics, the everything. this song is basically perfect.

the christians gave me
comic books as if i would
be scared of burning in hell
while i was already there

These words describe my love life right now. And it's just a beautiful song.

Quote
So here we are
Trying to talk some sense into our hearts
This can't be love
We're best of friends, and that should be enough
But If that's true
Tell me why I'm holding on to you
Like I'd never let you go

What if I kissed you now
And turned it all around
What if I kissed you now
And stars fell to the ground?
Would I be losing you, if I do, or would you want me too?
What if I kissed you now
What if I do?

What's going on?
Someone's gone and changed our special song
They dimmed the lights
See them shine, like planets in our eyes
Here it comes
All that I've been missing for so long
I (could) never let you go

Oh, did I leave it for too long?
Has the moment that I've dreamed of come and gone?
Time will tell, but I know this much is true
I don't want to dream of anyone but you

this describes my life for the past month:

Crimson lights the sky, the bird still asleep
Like a dream it shines, from heaven's safe keep
Childrens songs we sung, as soft as the breeze
Endless fields, our home, I long for those days

I call out these prayers to the sky, heavy with thought, see your face
I carry these memories inside, thoughts of a soul colored by love
See me grow wings and fly high, passions will die down below
I burn in a basin of fire, watchers look on as they dance in their merciless sky
Watching me, watching you

Silent black, the dawn, and time tell its tale
Darkened blood, it flows, the forest receives
Look within the dark as deep as you dare
There inside you find destruction you seek

I call out these prayers to the sky, heavy with thought, see your face
I carry these memories inside, thoughts of a soul colored by love
See me grow wings and fly high, passions will die down below
I burn in a basin of fire, watchers look on as they dance in their merciless sky
Watching me, watching you

Quote
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
’please bring me my wine’
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin’ it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
’relax,’ said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

^ I never found the singing/lyrics of Hotel California to match the godly instrumental of the song; Frank Ocean used the instrumental for American Wedding which I found to be far superior (probably biased there but it is worth checking it out! It's called American Wedding!) =P

It's one of those ones where not many people know the actual meaning. Once you find out, then couple the lyrics with the hauntingly beautiful instrumentation, then it all equals winning on an epic scale.

The lyrics describe the title establishment as a luxury resort where "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave." On the surface, it tells the tale of a weary traveler who becomes trapped in a nightmarish luxury hotel that at first appears inviting and tempting. The song is an allegory about hedonism and self-destruction in the Southern California music industry of the late 1970s; Don Henley called it "our interpretation of the high life in Los Angeles" and later reiterated "it's basically a song about the dark underbelly of the American dream and about excess in America, which is something we knew a lot about." In 2008, Don Felder described the origins of the lyrics:

"Don Henley and Glenn wrote most of the words. All of us kind of drove into LA at night. Nobody was from California, and if you drive into LA at night... you can just see this glow on the horizon of lights, and the images that start running through your head of Hollywood and all the dreams that you have, and so it was kind of about that... what we started writing the song about. Coming into LA... and from that 'Life in the Fast Lane' came out of it, and 'Wasted Time' and a bunch of other songs."

The abstract nature of the lyrics has led listeners to their own interpretations over the years. In the 1980s, some Christian evangelists alleged that "Hotel California" referred to a San Francisco hotel purchased by Anton LaVey and converted into the Church of Satan. Other rumors suggested that the Hotel California was the Camarillo State Mental Hospital. These claims have been consistently denied by the band.

The term "colitas" in the first stanza of the song is a Spanish term for "little tails" and in Mexican slang it is a reference to the buds of the Cannabis plant.

In a 2009 interview, Plain Dealer music critic John Soeder asked Don Henley this about the lyrics:

On "Hotel California," you sing: "So I called up the captain / 'Please bring me my wine' / He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here since 1969.'" I realize I'm probably not the first to bring this to your attention, but wine isn't a spirit. Wine is fermented; spirits are distilled. Do you regret that lyric?

Henley responded,

"Thanks for the tutorial and, no, you're not the first to bring this to my attention—and you're not the first to completely misinterpret the lyric and miss the metaphor. Believe me, I've consumed enough alcoholic beverages in my time to know how they are made and what the proper nomenclature is. But that line in the song has little or nothing to do with alcoholic beverages. It's a sociopolitical statement. My only regret would be having to explain it in detail to you, which would defeat the purpose of using literary devices in songwriting and lower the discussion to some silly and irrelevant argument about chemical processes."

According to Glenn Frey's liner notes for The Very Best of Eagles, the use of the word "steely" in the lyric (referring to knives) was a playful nod to band Steely Dan, who had included the lyric "Turn up the Eagles, the neighbors are listening" in their song "Everything You Did".

Hotel California- Eagles.

Epic song.

Truedat.

Anyway-

Quote from: Necrophiliac - Slayer
Mortuaries, dead of night
My body starts to rise
In my mind the horror lives
To feel death deep inside

Relentless lust of rotting flesh
To thrash the tomb she lies
Heathen whore of Satan's wrath
I spit at your demise

Virgin child now drained of life
Your soul cannot be free
Not given the chance to rot in Hell

Satan's cross points to Hell
The earth I must uncover
A passion grows to feast upon
The frozen blood inside her

I feel the urge the growing need
To f*** this sinful corpse
My tasks complete the b****** soul
Lies raped in demonic lust

Her stomach bursts the casket breaks
The seed has taken form
A writhing shape of twisted flesh
The Devil's child is thrown

Hungry for the smell of Death
He rules forbidden evil
Vengeance with a frenzied hatred
The b****** now must die

Lost souls of the dead
Form legions that burst through Hell's Gates
Death of one sacrifice
To avenge the raped corpse from the grave
Blood of one mortal man
The fire grows stronger within
Fate of a frenzied lust
Lucifer takes my dark soul

Down to the fiery pits of Hell
(Down to the fiery pits of HELL)

Don't ask why. Still, it's an amazing song.

I would also post the lyrics of Midwest Choppers 2 - Tech N9ne, but I'd be here all day censoring it. Who cares if it's rap, it's still a damn good song. Better than all the stuff in the charts these days imo.

prove to me
i'm not gonna die alone
put your arm 'round my collarbone
open the door

don't lie to me
if you're putting the dog to sleep
that pet you just couldn't keep
couldn't afford

well prove to me
i'm not gonna die alone
unstitch that **** i've sewn
to close up the hole that tore through my skin

well my trust in you
is a dog with a broken leg
tendons too torn to beg
for you to let me back in

you said i can't prove to you
you're not gonna die alone
but trust me to take you home
to clean up that blood all over your paws

you can't keep running out
kicking yourself off the bed
kicking yourself in the head
because you're kicking me too

put your trust in me
i'm not gonna die alone
put your trust in me
i'm not gonna die alone
i don't think so

the antlers - putting the dog to sleep
when you relate it to the events described in the Hospice album, this song is so much more depressing. the stupid thing is it turned me into an emotional wreck when i got to the first line alone on the first listen.

the christians gave me
comic books as if i would
be scared of burning in hell
while i was already there

Tech N9ne's decent but c'mon... he's very predictable.

@ Milsap - I know the meaning; American Wedding is still a better execution of songwriting =P

The only songs IMO that match or better Hotel California's lyrics are Bridge Over Troubled Water, Imagine, Stairway To Heaven and Baba O'Reily.

Just remembered these hard hitting lyrics from Metallica's Ronnie:

Quote
Story starts
Quiet town
Small town boy
Big time frown
Never talks
Never plays
Different path
Lost his way

The streets are red
Red I'm afraid
There's no confetti
No parade
Nothing happens in this boring place
But oh my god how it all did change
Now they all pray
Blood stain wash away

He said
Lost my way
This bloody day
Lost my way

I heard him
He said
Lost my way
This bloody day
Lost my way
All things wash away
But blood stained the sun red today

I always said
Something wrong
With little strange
Ronnie Long
Never laughed
Never smiled
Talked alone for miles and miles and miles

Gallow calls
Son I say
Keep your smile and laugh all day
Think once again in this boring place
For little boys how they soon change

Now they all pray
Blood stain wash away

He said
Lost my way
This bloody day
Lost my way

Yeah, I heard him
He said
Lost my way
This bloody day
Lost my way
All things wash away
But blood stained the sun red today

(Spoken)
Yeah, well all the green things died
When Ronnie moved to this place
He said
Don't you dare ask
Why I'm cursed to wear this face

Now we all know why
The children called him Ronnie Frown
When he pulled that gun from his pocket
They all fall down, down, down

He said
Lost my way
This bloody day
Lost my way

Yeah, Yeah, I heard him
He screamed
Lost my way
This bloody day
Lost my way
All things wash away
But blood stained the sun red today

That's right
All things wash away
They all fall down
But blood stained the sun today

All things wash away
And they all fall down
But blood stained the sun today

Staind - Epiphany

Your words they make just a whisper
Your face is so unclear
I try to pay attention
And the words just disappear
Cuz it's always raining in my head
Forget all the things i should have said
So i speak to you in riddles
Cuz my words get in my way
I smoke the whole thing to my head
And feel it wash away
Cuz i can't take anymore of this
I wanna come apart
And dig myself a little hole
Inside your precious heart
Cuz it's always raining in my head
Forget all the things i should have said
I am nothing more than
A little boy inside
That cries out for intention
That i always try to hide
Cuz i talk to you like children
Though i don't know how i feel
But i know i'll do the right thing
If the right thing is in fear
Cuz its always raining in my head
Forget all the things i should have said

One of my favourite songs, favourite Staind song at least =]

"I'm closer to the Golden Dawn
Immersed in Crowley's uniform
Of imagery
I'm living in a silent film
Portraying Himmler's sacred realm
Of dream reality
I'm frightened by the total goal
Drawing to the ragged hole
And I ain't got the power anymore
No I ain't got the power anymore

I'm the twisted name on Garbo's eyes
Living proof of Churchill's lies
I'm destiny
I'm torn between the light and dark
Where others see their targets
Divine symmetry
Should I kiss the viper's fang
Or herald loud the death of Man
I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore

Don't believe in yourself
Don't deceive with belief
Knowledge comes with death's release

I'm not a prophet or a stone age man
Just a mortal with the potential of a superman
I'm living on
I'm tethered to the logic of Homo Sapien
Can't take my eyes from the great salvation
Of bulls**t faith
If I don't explain what you ought to know
You can tell me all about it on the next Bardo
I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore

Don't believe in yourself
Don't deceive with belief
Knowledge comes with death's release."
