Games of nostalgia
« on: December 28, 2015, 17:03 »
Is there a game from your childhood that you wish you could play right now? Or a game you generally miss?

Mine is Wario Land 2 & 4 and wave race.

What game is making you feel nostalgic?

Really want to play a bit of Zoo Tycoon. What a game. That and Croc and the legend of the Gobbos.

Toy Story and Aladdin for the SNES.  I wanna try out the Genesis version as I hear there's another great Aladdin game there, but Nintendo really knew how to pump out high quality licensed games in the 90s.  Or maybe they were the exceptions to the rule.

Someone posted Tales of Symphonia the other day and I got a wave of nostalgia from listening to The Law of the Battle on BGO the other day.

Too many to name them all, but I think the stand out would be The Wind Waker. I wasn't particularly young (almost 18) but when it came out I was just about to finish school and was generally having a good time. The second I hear the title screen music I'm right back to 2003 again!

To be fair I probably only picked it because I played it again recently so it's fresh in the memory, haha. Super Metroid is also another stand out because of the hours I've spent on it over the last twenty odd years... (one day I WILL finish with 100% items)

Dragon Warrior Monsters! It was such a fun game, I really think that if they did a modern remake and made effort to make it less of a pokemon clone, as well as adding more mechanics, it would be waaaay better than pokemon. The breeding system was really interesting, and the plot was a bit more original and mature.

Roller Coaster and Zoo Tycoon... I still play RTC a lot and I wanna pick up Zoo Tycoon but Zoo Tycoon didn't age well for me, since it is pretty easy to get all of the animals, and getting money goes by sooo slowly because you only get money from grants and entrance fees really.

Windwaker and Oracle of Ages were two Zelda games I put a lot of time into.

Obviously Pokemon, especially gen 2. I'll never forget leaving Toys R Us and looking at the displays of Gold and Silver, my brother and I begging our parents to get it for us, and they said no, that we'd have to wait for Christmas which wasn't for like 2 more months. Then we walked outside and as my dad was about to get in the car he was like, "oh what's this" because he saw something gold and shiny under a snowmobile that was in the next parking spot. He picks it up and its a super cold Pokemon Gold version some unlucky person dropped in the snow and lost. Instead of being a good samaritan for the poor kid that dropped it, we decided screw that kid, finders keepers. My brother and I were supposed to share, but since my brother was super possessive he would never let me play or watch and my parents soon bought me my own Silver version. The Gold game kind went screwy though, after a month of playing the internal battery got toasted, but I'll still never forget that freak occurrence. My Silver version worked fine though :p

oh and Neopets. I should sign in and check my stocks, that's how I made most of my money in that game. Don't know why more people didn't do that, I had almost all my neopoints invested in stocks since they never go bankrupt so you'll only make money.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is one of mine. I know there's an HD version of the game coming out, but I don't plan on getting a Wii U. I wish I could go back in time and play New Super Mario Bros. again, when it came out and everyone was playing it. It was fun vs-ing others in Mario vs. Luigi.

Besides that I'd have to say Pokepark: Pikachu's Adventure, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Pokemon Diamond, and Pokemon Emerald.

Soundtracks are much more nostalgic for me than the gameplay. Pokemon RSE, DP, New Super Mario Bros. and Harvest Moon: FoMT come to mind.
