Team Building / Charizard-Y Doubles Trouble (RMT)
« on: August 20, 2015, 22:22 »
Hey guys! Long time no see!

It's been a while since I've been on the forum, and even longer since I've done any proper competitive battling. Furthermore, most of my competitive battling prior to this team was singles-oriented, so please forgive me if the team seems a little... strange/rusty.

Basically this team is centered around Charizard-Y (which is in my opinion the best Mega there is outside of Rayquaza, because RayRay can mega AND hold a life orb at the same time which is super scary???). I love Charizard-Y so much, but the main problem that I see in doubles is that most people structure their teams into a glaringly obvious Drought/Sunny Day team strategy, which has been around for so long that veterans know how to counter it pretty easily (IMO, at least).

My hope is to create a team that utilizes Charizard-Y and Drought effectively without being easily read, or be just surprising enough to be effective and efficient.

That being said, here we go!

Quote
Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze -> Drought
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Heat Wave
- Solar Beam
- Air Slash
- Protect

Charizard is the centerpiece of this team. Drought on a fire Pokemon whose special attack reaches almost 500 with a modest nature is just plain mean.

Solar Beam is a go-to against any Water-, Rock-, and Ground-types that decide to take Charizard on, and I picked Air Slash over Focus Blast for accuracy's sake. The 70% is cringe worthy, honestly. Air Slash also gives Charizard a little bit more coverage, too, allowing it to take out Fighting-types like Blaziken and Heracross out faster.

Heat Wave can be replaced with Flamethrower or Fire Blast (I don't honestly remember if Fire Blast still hits 100% in sun anymore, but if it does then it's a toss-up between damage and hitting both opponents at once).

Klefki @ Light Clay
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 152 SpD / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
- Foul Play
- Thunder Wave
- Reflect
- Light Screen

Klefki is one of my favorite additions from XY. However, Klefki's found its niche in the status area, so one good Taunt shuts down almost he entire operation. If the opponent who uses Taunt is faster than Klefki, i.e. has Prankster, Klefki is rendered almost completely useless and loses a turn before I can even set up properly.

You see the 4 EVs put into speed? It looks a little silly, but that small investment ensures that my Klefki outspeeds every other 0 Spe-Prankster not named Meowstic, Liepard, Whimsicott and Thundurus, allowing my Klefki to slip in at least ONE screen, or slip in at least ONE thunder wave before being Taunted. It may not sound like much, but with this Klefki build I've been able to Thunder Wave oncoming Sableye and Klefki and Mega Banettes without fail, and that paralysis can give me extra time on Klefki to set up properly without Taunt interruption.

Klefki basically arrives on the scene with Charizard-Y to set up some screens, possibly throw out a Thunder Wave or two, and then gets switched with another player (usually Trevenant).

Trevenant @ Lum Berry
Ability: Harvest
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- Leech Seed
- Will-O-Wisp
- Rest

Harvest Trevenant in the sun is a nightmare. Leech Seed or Will-O-Wisp the opponent, take any incoming damage with ease, rest if it gets too dangerous, immediately wake up thanks to Lum Berry, immediately regenerate Lum Berry thanks to Drought + Harvest, Drain Punch anything that tries to fight back... this guy is mean.

I chose Drain Punch over Horn Leech because while Horn Leech has more power and gets STAB, Drain Punch has better coverage. Horn Leech hits Ghost-types, but Drain Punch can hit Ferrothorn, Scizor, Metagross, etc. with far greater power.

Snorlax @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Immunity
EVs: 156 HP / 252 Def / 100 SpD
Impish Nature
- Belly Drum/Power-Up Punch
- Crunch
- Rest
- Stockpile

I found a nasty Snorlax build involving Stockpile + Belly Drum and it is one of my favorite things ever. Unfortunately, while Snorlax is super versatile, only one attacking move for all of these boosts would be a downright SHAME if that last move was resisted, or worse, immunized. Now, while nothing is immune to dark, I could run Power-up Punch instead of Belly Drum just for extra coverage, but it means that I don't get that instant +6 like I would with Belly Drum.

Cloyster @ King's Rock
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Spikes / Rapid Spin / Surf

MMMMmmmmMMMMmmmm I Love Cloyster. Shell Smash was an AWESOME addition to Cloyster, and each generation since my Cloysters have been rocking the smash. Icicle Spear and Rock Blast are absolutely evil with Skill Link, and with boosts from Shell Smash Cloyster becomes a scary sweeper.

The last move is a toss-up: do I want to set up an entry hazard, destroy entry hazards on my own side, or go from Adamant to Naughty and have a water-type attacking move? Protect thyself, enrage thy opponent, or thwart thy opponent? That is the question.

Grumpig @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Calm Nature
- Psychic
- Teeter Dance
- Magic Coat
- Heal Bell

I love Grumpig on this team! Team him up with Trevenant in the sun, use Teeter Dance, and watch all hell break loose. Trevenant's confusion is healed almost instantly with the Lum Berry, and watch the two of them go to status-inducing town together. Opponent tries to status Grumpig back? MAGIC COAT, bounce that status right back at them! Feel like switching out to cure confusion? Oh, that's ok, their team will just get IMPALED BY SPIKES anyway :) (if Cloyster runs Spikes. If not, it gives my team an extra turn, and those are oh so delicious anyway).

As much as I love Grumpig on this team, I feel like of all the Pokemon listed so far Grumpig might need the most work. Suggestions encouraged!

And that's what I have so far! If you guys have any suggestions or feedback please let me know :)

P.S.: It's good to be back!

X and Y/OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire / Trade Mega Stones
« on: June 02, 2014, 02:06 »
Hey guys. I recently restarted my Y game and I want to give my charmander the Charizardite X, because he has excellent stats with an Adamant nature.

Thing is, I already obtained my Charizardite X from my X game and traded it to a friend.

I have loads more stones if anybody else wants to trade. I can trade almost every Mega Stone found in Y (i traded them before I restarted).

Thank you~

Simple: list something insane you've done in recent days, weeks, months, etc.

I'll start.

I ate a raw habanero pepper today. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, strangely enough. Now my roommate is telling me to eat a ghost pepper and, I won't lie, I'm very curious about this suggestion.

Role Play / [Disc] Pokemon x Avatar RP?
« on: October 28, 2013, 22:07 »
Just a thought, but it might be interesting.

First and foremost, NO I am not talking about James Cameron's human-sized smurfs. This RP is referring to Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra.

It literally just came to mind, so it needs a bit of tweaking, but would anyone be interested in an RP based in the world of the Avatar; where humans, spirits, and Pokemon must co-exist?

Setting needs tweaking. It can either be set in ATLA, during the 100 years war either before or during Aang's revival, where the spirits are separated from the mortal world and the creatures that roam the land such as Badgermoles still exist, but Pokemon exist among them as well.

Another option is that the RP can be set between ATLa and LoK, after the 100 years war but before Korra's birth, and focus more on the world mending after the Fire Nation's attack and how nations must learn to coexist again. The spirits are still separated.

The third option is during the events of LoK, and how the other nations are faring after Aang's departure and without Korra venturing away from Republic City. Spirits... well that's spoilers, so, if you haven't seen the latest Korra then you may not want this option.

The fourth and final option is that the RP is set before the first Avatar, in the times when the Lion Turtles protected the land. (ATLA fans please note that it is currently unknown whether the Lion Turtles came before or after Oma and Shu, so association with them is not allowed). Spirits roam the Earth, and can even be Pokemon in this setting. Please note, however, as the spirits do not like humans, and if threatened will attack. It is unusual of to have spirits as companions, as only the air tribe coexists with them. Bending is not allowed inside the city walls, as bending is a gift of protection from the Lion Turtle that must be returned to him when returning to the city.

Pokemon are restricted to only manipulating the one of the four elements. Pokemon can either be a guide or a companion, like Momo and Appa, but playing as a Pokemon is not allowed. Also no talking to Pokemon either - presumably only the Avatar can do that, and the avatar ain't got no time for that! (Mainly because the Avatar at the time, if there is one, will not ever show in the RP).

Humans are restricted to either no bending at all, or being very poor at their element. I'll probably limit the number of benders allowed in this RP. If set in the Lion Turtle option, however, I will be more lenient.

Team Building / Pokemon Y - whY must this be so hard?
« on: October 20, 2013, 16:45 »
GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS, I AM ALIVE.

I haven't been online in, what, two/three years? Wowzers. Well, I have returned with questions abound!

I picked up Pokemon Y on its release date and I've been chugging along to the best of my ability (what with graduating college in the spring and all), and I've managed to snag a few good ones - and like all obedient trainers I managed to snag an Eevee. So, here it goes...

Oh no, not that question- anything but that question!!!

What should I evolve my eevee into?

Normally I wouldn't be having this much trouble, but that darn Sylveon has gone and stumped me- what with it's cute flesh bows, and it's super high special defense. Harrumf. You're throwing my whole team out of whack, Sylveon! Think about what you've done!

The team is still in the works, but I have quite a few candidates. I haven't been in the competitive realm for a while, not since BW1, so forgive me if I'm a little rusty:

-------

Donphan @Leftovers
Sturdy
Impish +Def -Sp.Atk
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 6 Speed

Stealth Rock
Rapid Spin
Earthquake
Ice Shard

You know it, you love it; it's Donphan's classic moveset. Send him in, let him set up a Stealth Rock, and let the battle commence.

-------

Greninja @Life Orb
Torrent (will try to get Protean when available)
Naughty +Atk -Sp.Def
EVs: 218 Atk / 40 Sp.Atk / 252 Speed

Water Shuriken
Scald / Aerial Ace
Power-Up Punch
Dark Pulse

Water Shuriken is for STAB priority + the 2-5 consecutive hit. It means that at minimum Greninja does 45 base damage (STAB included) and 112 base damage maximum. Scald is for STAB again + the burn chance is always nice. Power-Up Punch to knock the socks off of those darned Steel-types that usually wall our Water-type friends. Repeated usage never hurts, either. STAB Dark is always nice, and the flinch chance is lovely too, but I do leave myself open against Fairy-, Grass-, Bug- and Fighting-type attacks if I leave the move-set at that. I could replace Scald with Aerial Ace to cover myself against Grass-, Bug-, and Fighting-.

I decided to use the Life Orb because Greninja is a glass cannon. He's going to faint quickly if he can't take them down first, and his versatility could really help in a pinch - especially in this generation. So I figured I might as well let him fire away with that 1.3 power boost for a few turns.

-------

Talonflame @Choice Band / Life Orb / Leftovers
Flame Body (Gale Wing if it becomes legal in OU)
Adamant +Atk -Sp.Atk
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Speed

Swords Dance / Steel Wing
Brave Bird
Flare Blitz / Flame Charge
Roost

Can you say revenge killer? I sure can!!! This thing is crazy powerful, and it comes with two incredible STAB power-house moves: Brave Bird and Flare Blitz. If the recoil damage is too much, Talonflame can use Flame Charge and hit again and again with stacking speed boosts without the recoil Talonflame can roost. GLORIOUS. Swords Dance and Gale Wing on a non-Choice Talonflame spells absolute disaster if he is able to set up. +2 Attack with +1 priority to Brave Bird spells PAIN. Steel Wing is a good Ice- and Rock- hitter, and it also comes in handy versus those darn Fairy-types.

-------

(Mega) Venusaur @Venusaurite
Chlorophyll/Thick Fat
Modest +Sp.Atk -Atk
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Sp.Atk / 216 Speed

Growth
Synthesis
Sludge Bomb
Solar Beam / Grass Knot / Energy Ball

Say hello to my big ol' friend. Venusaur is glorious- can I just say that? MegaVenusaur is glorious as well. The play is simple: Growth to my heart's content (add a Synthesis or two for survivability), MegaEvolve, unleash hell. Sludge Bomb to nuke all of those diddly-darn Fairy-types running about this generation, and do neutral damage to whatever isn't hurt by Grass- except for Steel-types. Then again, if Mega/Venusaur manages to max out its stats via Growth, hitting ANYTHING shouldn't be too much of a problem. Solar Beam and Grass Knot are tied here. Solar Beam is wonderful, but that darn charge can fall off a precipice, and Grass Knot takes down the heavy hitters, but not all of Venusaur's threats are heavy. It's a gamble to go with either, and I could technically use Energy Ball instead, but IDK.

-------

Tyrantrum @Shell Bell / Choice Scarf / Choice Band
Strong Jaw
Adamant +Atk -Sp.Atk
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Speed

Dragon Dance / Crunch
Head Smash
Earthquake
Substitute / Dragon Claw

I LOVE DINOSAURS. Words cannot describe how elated I was when I discovered Aurorus and Tyrantrum, but I digress. If I decide to go with Shell Bell a SubDD Tyrantrum coupled with STAB Head Smash is going to be devastating. Very few Pokemon could withstand that kind of power (the ones I can think of off the top of my head are Ferrothorn, Aeigislash, and Bronzong). EQ for killing basically everything else. However, if I decide to run a Choice set DD and Substitute are replaced with Crunch and Dragon Claw to cover his bases.

-------

And there's the five slots so far. I have a few things that I could try, such as replacing Greninja with Skill Link Cloyster and let him Shell Smash his way through the opponent, or replace MegaVenusaur with Trevenant who is an incredible spin-blocker and the perfect Starmie counter. As it stands now, however, I am one team member short of a picnic.

I was considering a Wish-support Eeveelution, and would like to hear everyone's opinion on the matter. Wish-support Sylveon? Wish-support Umbreon? Wish-support Espeon? Wish at all? Eevee at all?

Thanks again for hearing me out. My team is probably awful, so any advice would be appreciated xD;;
