Title: What Water Pokemon Should I Have?
Post by: The name master on November 03, 2016, 12:59
I'm playing Red and I'm wondering what Pokemon I should have as my water Pokemon.

My team is:

I would personally use Seadra. Sure it doesn't evolve into Kingdra yet but it is still cool looking and can learn some useful attacks. Dragon Rage and Surf can come in handy.

OK.

Isn't Vaporeon supposed to be the best (or at least one of the best) water Pokemon in gen 1? Either that or I've heard a lot of people saying it's good....

i was making a PM to reply to this but my pc crashed lmao. it was a long write up w/ strengths and weaknesses.

starmie's your best bet, but they're TM dependent a lil. dewgong and cloyster are ur next best bets for rby.

I always forget that Starmie is part Psychic type which in Gen 1 was the bet typing to.have. It just doesn't scream Psychic Pokémon to me.

I hate when that happens!

Dewgong: I'd like to try (in fact I wanna try all of them but I can only have one!)

Cloyster's good! It has high defense!

Starmie is good because of it Psychic type, which is a bit broken in gen 1!

Seadra looks badass!

Seaking is probably the weakest.

Starmie because it is very broken.

Starmie is by no means broken, I can tell you that. T-Bolt Alakazam laughs at it for the most part. I would go vaporeon in my opinion. It has nice defenses and Special, plus a good amount of health.

Also, where's the starter?

Alakazam doesn't get Thunderbolt, if you mean Thunderpunch it can get that from a Gen 2 tradeback, which is probably not relevant if the original poster is just playing through Red. Who cares about brokenness anyway, he's using Mew.

Both Starmie and Lapras have nice attacking movepools, I would go with one of those 2.

Tbf, pretty much everything was laughed at by Alakazam in Red.

Poliwrath can be fun, because Lance's Dragonair will just use Agility against it because Agility is Psychic type therefore 'super-effective' even tho it's a status move, but Weezing can do that I guess. I'd prolly go either Starmie, Slowbro or Vaporeon, but I love Vaporeon so I'm probably a bit bias there!

I must've been thinking of thunder wave. My opinion on vaporeon still stands though.

I should've locked this topic, shouldn't I?

I did say
I got Kingler!
I'm playing Blue and I'm going to use Seadra! I'm also (lacking the motivation to) playing Leaf Green and going to use Seaking!

Also, where's the starter?
I'm only interested in Pokemon I've never tried, so Blastoise is not listed!
