Advice needed!

I'm trying to hatch a shiny Miltank in pokemon crystal. I'm using a not shiny Miltank and a not shiny ditto.

Is there any way of increasing the chance of hatching a shiny?

I can't find shinies, though. Takes forever!

Do I need to change ditto with another pokemon?

Does stats have something to do with shininess?

It'll be the second shiny I've ever got without cheats.

In gen 2, stats do have to do with shininess

From Bulbapedia
Spoiler: show
In Generation II, Shininess is determined by the IVs of a Pokémon. If a Pokémon's Speed, Defense, and Special IVs are all 10, and its Attack IV is 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 or 15, it will be Shiny. ...

...In a wild encounter, the probability of a Pokémon's IVs lining up in any of the above manners is 1/8192; breeding has different odds due to parents passing on IVs to their offspring. For example, if one breeds a Shiny Pokémon properly, the offspring may have as high as a 1/64 chance of being Shiny, depending on the species of Pokémon.

So I think you can increase the odds by having a pokemon that already has some of the proper IVs. Try looking for an IV calculator online and see if that can help you find a good pokemon to start with. It'll probably take a long time and a lot of patience either way though. Good luck!

When it comes down to it, the difference between healing and necromancy is timing.

My miltank and ditto's stats are too high then. I got a caterpie and venonat, raised their stats with items, so it would match what you said, and hopefully it'll have the stats or IVs or whatever it was to make it shiny.

IVs are numbers determined when the pokemon is caught/hatched. They do have an influence on the pokemons stats, but they also can't be changed, so how high the stats are won't matter. Like dragoncat said, just find an iv calculator and you'll be able to find out the ivs of your pokemon.

I just realised I got something that can help raise the chance of hatching a shiny. A SHINY GYARADOS! If you breed a shiny pokemon with a not shiny pokemon, the chances can be as high as 1/64

Hopefully my Gyarados is male, otherwise I'll end up with one of these

Then another one of these

Which wouldn't be very fulfilling!

EDIT: phew! My Gyarados is male! Got a goldeen. Hatched a few. None shiny.
