Title: GameSpy servers to be shut down (includes Nintendo games)
Post by: Ledyba on April 04, 2014, 13:47
(New topic because I context is wider than just Nintendo's now.)

I was with those annoyed that Nintendo's servers for games were being shut down - but there seems to be another reason for it.  Gamespy who hosted these games as well as many others are closing down their servers in May.  (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-04-04-gamespy-servers-to-shut-down-next-month)

Goodbye online GTA IV & RDR. :(

I probably should attempt to get that online stuff in Dragon Quest IX.  Bleh.

Damn, won't get any retro GTAIV LP's then =/

Doesn't really impact me otherwise though

It seems crazy that GTAIV is already going offline. Feels like only yesterday it was released.

I wonder if people will set up their own servers instead, I think it's possible to connect to them if you change the DNS settings of your DS because a few people have done this to give out exclusives and set up their own tournaments before.

Phantasy Star Online still has active private servers on the Dreamcast, despite the fact PSO2 has been released for a while.

I believe that the games for the PS3 and 4 and Vita are fine. I definitely know that Mortal Kombat 9 is STILL able to go online. There was a public statement from Ed Boon himself. He said that Sony and Microsoft have figured out a way to keep their games online.
