Nicknames
« on: August 26, 2013, 22:14 »
So, to those people out there who do nickname their Pokemon, what are your favourite nicknames you've used? Why did you pick them? Do they have a meaning?
Here are a few of mine:

Samurott - Tirradya (Teer-Ad-Ya) - Female
Tirranna means Water, and Adya means First. Samurott was my first Pokemon on White 2, and is a Water Type Pokemon. I think it sounds really nice ;)

Reuniclus - Echoplasm (Echo-Plasm) - Male
I thought that Reuniclus looks like a single being inside a bigger copy of itself. This reminded me of an echo because an echo is a copy of a sound repeated over and over. Plasm comes from cytoplasm.

Sawsbuck - Horae (Oh-Ray) - Female
Horae means Goddess of the Seasons. Sawsbuck changes with the seasons and I thought it was fitting.

Ferrothorn - Acacia (Ak-Ah-See-Ah) - Female
Acacia means thorny. I thought it was a simple, feminine name that describe Ferrothorn perfectly.

Scrafty - Kerina (Care-Ee-Na) - Female
Keri means dark, and Dina means warrior. I fused them together to make Kerina, meaning dark warrior, which describes Scrafty's Dark/Fighting type.

Mamoswine - Adarilei (Ad-Ah-Ril-Ay) - Female (Shiny Pokemon)
Ada is taken from Adana meaning Earth. Ril is taken from Amarilla, meaning Shiny, and is like Amarillo, which is yellow in Spanish (Shiny Mamoswine is yellow). Ei is taken from Eira which means snow.

My nicknames usually take a long time to decide on because I like to play around with different names and see how they sound together... Do you like simple nicknames or complex ones?
Awkward :/

I don't nickname my Pokémon very often, but when I do, I usually just use the names of my friends, because I'm incredibly uncreative. I always feel kind of bad when I don't nickname them though, so maybe I'll start.

I don't really have any favourite nicknames due to my aforementioned inability to be creative. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My mom bought me this new laptop and it gets really hot when the chat is being spammed. Now my leg is starting to hurt because it is getting so hot. Please, if you don't want me to get burned, then don't spam the chat.

This is why Umbreon is now called Nathan for me. I think it suits him very well  :yeswink:

Blaziken - Cinderslash
Mightyena - Scarouge - combination of 'scar' and 'rogue'
Tropius - Timberwing

Currently trying to think of a nickname for a Sandslash...
Thinking something to do with its Ground typing, and the spines/spikes on its back... :/
Awkward :/

I've come up with a few by putting Ground/Desert related words together with words that could be related to Sandslash

Dryspine
Hotclaw
Groundslash
Earthspike
Dustclaw

I like Dustclaw and Dryspine but I'm not totally sure...

I've decided on Dustclaw for Sandslash, and Allaura for Gardevoir. Mixture of 'allure' and 'aura'.

I nickname everything with the first name that pops into my head. Unless I'm doing a themed game. My Platinum, for example, is Shakespearean.

This is how I end up with Ethel the Hydreigon, Edna the Frosslass, and Malvolio the Empoleon.

I regret nothing.

I do themed games sometimes, all of my HG Pokemon are named after different "fandom" book characters. I have:

Arya the Meganium (The Inheritance Cycle)
Ginny the Ninetales (Harry Potter)
Cato the Ariados (Hunger Games)
Tal the Skamory (7th Tower (Garth Nix))
Siry the Tyranitar (Pendragon Adventure (D.J. MacHale)
and Watson the Cloyster (Sherlock)

I've also done Historical ones where they're all named after kings and emperors and ones where I name them after cities.

Knuckles the Blaziken

Blaziken is more like an echidina (or so I've heard) and knuckles from the Sonic series is one, and they both attack mainly physically.

I have a cute Slowpoke named Lazy River. :)

Man, don't try to copy that one too much. It's pretty darn clever, but that's just what I think. :( ;)

Ice Cap the Snorunt, another clever one for just another cute Pokémon. ^.^

Love Lazy River the Slowpoke! Cute name :3 Clever too.

Just realised Cinderslash doesn't fit for Blaziken... How does Cinderkick sound?

Also got Azurewinds the Altaria.
