Debate / The UK General Election
« on: May 31, 2017, 13:29 »
So, we've got a general election soon. How's everyone feeling about it?

We've got Maggie May in the Blue Corner, promising a 'strong and stable' Britain while at the same time screwing the poor.

Jeremy Corbyn in the Red Corner, wanting to nationalise everything but at the same time making sure the mega corporations pay their taxes.

The UK Independence Party that... Well... Do they even need to exist anymore?

The Liberal Democrats want to legalise weed, so there's the stoner vote

And the greens, 'the hipster vote'.

I've been a Labour voter since 2010 (my first election) and this year I'm on the fence. Corbyn's a wet blanket and I'm worried about my small business' corporation tax increasing as a result. Just hoping the mega corporations are going to get taxed harder and my rate staying the same.

What about you?

Debate / The 2015 General Election
« on: April 20, 2015, 13:13 »
As today is the last day you can register to vote, where does everybody (who is eligible) stand on where their vote will go on 5th May?

And if you aren't eligible, who would you go for?

And if you haven't registered, do so immediately and remember to tell your friends. But not the ones who you think will vote for UKIP*

*Joke.

Sports / 2014 F1 Season
« on: March 16, 2014, 13:36 »
It's back! And what a first race! I don't care what anybody says, these new rule changes are what the sport has been needing for ages. More rationing of fuel, turbo V6 engines that push out even more torque than before, meaning more for the driver to do.

And it should mean that Adrian Newey's exploitation of physics should make it more of a level playing field. This will be the season that we see that Vettel is only capable of winning in the fastest car. Like Damon Hill and Jacques Villenueve before him.

Rosberg or Hamilton will be my top tips for winning it, with Alonso and Hulkenberg getting somewhere in there too. Dark horses will most certainly be Williams.

Gaming / Kinect game recommendations
« on: September 03, 2013, 21:20 »
Got a Kinect for my Xbox today as the wife-to-be wants to get fit without going to the gym. 20 quid on Amazon, can't go wrong really.

Any recommendations for games that are made exclusively for the Kinect? The dance ones look pretty good, but just wanted to get some opinions.

If any of you know of Sporcle, you'll know they mainly do quizzes. However last night they posted this. The smallest known things in the universe to the largest. It's amazing AND scary at the same time to think how small we are compared to everything else:

Gaming / GREAT NEWS! For EA haters at least...
« on: May 17, 2013, 12:21 »
EA has killed the Online Pass:

Saying it has "listened to the feedback," Electronic Arts has decided to ditch the hated Online Pass.

Return with me now to the golden days of yesteryear, specifically 2010, when EA threw the world into a tizzy with something called "Project Ten Dollar." A few months later, EA Sports jumped on the bandwagon and gave it a much catchier name, Online Pass, which would soon become a generic term for in-game content that gamers must buy separately when purchasing a used game. Publishers claimed online passes were meant to protect them from losses incurred by preowned game sales, from which they receive absolutely no revenues, but many gamers saw it as nothing more than a straight-up cash grab.

They swallowed it, of course, because that's what gamers do, but they didn't like it, and while time passed, that burning anger and frustration didn't fade. Even so, the practice grew more and more widespread, and today it's just about everywhere: Sony, Square Enix, Bethesda, Ubisoft and others have all incorporated it into their games at one time or another. But soon there will be one publisher who won't be using it, and that publisher - as you already know if you read the headline - is none other than the one that inflicted all of this on us in the first place.

"Yes, we're discontinuing Online Pass," EA Senior Director of Corporate Communications John Reseburg told VentureBeat. "None of our new EA titles will include that feature."

"Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn't respond to the format," he explained. "We've listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward."

There's no arguing the point that gamers didn't respond to it, but while this is good news for those who were staunchly opposed to the concept, it does leave one rather important question unanswered: What comes next? I don't believe that EA is so institutionally evil that it will be compelled to come up with something even worse than Online Pass, but there's no question that it's going to come up with something. "We're still committed to creating content and services that enhance the game experience well beyond the day you first start playing," Reseburg said.

Boy, I can't wait to see what's next.

Without carpet bombing them, that is.

Will an armed conflict be the only resolution? Or can Kim Jong Un be talked out of it?

Random Randomness / Britain's First Female PM Dies
« on: April 08, 2013, 18:13 »
No more Maggie. The lady who was not for turning.

Sure, she managed to hold on to our biggest supply of oil, she let council tenants buy their houses off the council and helped end Communism in Europe...

But she screwed thousands of northerners out of their jobs...

Any thoughts on the passing of one of our most controversial PMs ever?

Random Randomness / Question for American members
« on: April 05, 2013, 19:52 »
Recently I've watched the films Mean Girls (starring Lindsay Lohan) and The Perks of Being A Wallflower (with the equally hot Emma Watson, but that has nothing to do with it) and myself and my fiancee have been wondering:

We don't have proms in the same way you do. Well, we have them, but it's just a gathering of people. What I'd like to know is- Is the prom queen as big of a deal as it is portrayed in films? Is it really a life or death situation with people? We see it as a way for the 'beautiful' and 'popular' people to get a popularity vote for something that really holds no weight. What good is it going to look on a CV (resume)

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
