Fight was the wrong word there, would "gain the upper hand" fit better (obviously if it's terminal you kinda have to draw)?

And basically everything Muhed said.

Norm MacDonald did a good bit on this, where you don't really "lose" the fight with cancer so much as "it's a draw."

This is what I was referencing.

I understood what Kerou was saying and didn't read into it as a 'You can win if you just believe' thing. I don't think anyone (apart from maybe religious nuts) uses the phrase to actually mean fighting against cancerous cells, but rather the fight to regain some semblance of a normal, functional life after being diagnosed with a terminal illness.

It's like when something terrible happens in your life and you eventually have to say "Oh well, onwards and upwards". Not because there's any indication or belief that things are actually going to get better, but because you need some kind of psychological momentum to get control over whatever it is that has brought you down in the first place or else you'll stagnate and spiral downwards further.

flatmate is back and blaring her crappy music!! Hardly got any sleep last night as she decided 1am is an acceptable time to dry your hair. I always feel so guilty if I make too much noise! Like I have to put my telly up louder to block the sound out lol.
I'm also aware every time she gets a text like your room is tiny, your phone is no more than a metre away from you just ugh. Seriously wear some headphones????
I hate confrontation so I guess I'll just need to buy ear plugs and put up with this until May :)))) the other noisy one isn't back yet but that will be fun hahaha

The weather was so bad that the school usually calls off, but they didn't so my mom kept us home. Thank to that I now have 2 exams and a quiz to make up.

last night i had to drive home in a snow storm in my rear wheel drive car. while i was slipping and sliding everywhere i witnessed 2 accidents happen and saw about 5 more people that had already hit eachother on my 40 minute drive.

not only that but i was hanging with my friend earlier and i had left my phone in his car and i tried to follow him home and get his attention and i finally found him stuck on a hill so i flash my high beams and i'm waving out the window and yelling and he backs up and i think he must have noticed my phone is in his car right? no he just gives his car a running start and makes it up the hill. by the time I can force my volvo up the hill i've lost him. then i got lost in a part of new hampshire i do not know, and NH is like a gigantic forest with tiny roads. and now i need to drive 30 minutes back that way to get my phone

And furthermore, you don't wanna go out a loser that lost a fight with cancer.

this is what im getting at p much exactly. fight is such an awkward and Loaded way of putting it and if you point this out to people they go "uh....no no i wasn't saying THAT i was saying, like, uh, fight as in...." and its still missing the point entirely and the gravity of the entire situation.

Also, I don't see how people can really survive cancer on sheer force of will.  It's really odd that this whole idea became a colloquialism.

its mostly due to undiagnosed or willfully ignored mental illness, or some other delusional beliefs. "if i think hard enough about a thing or dont think about it at all, things will magically fix themselves. yes, this is a responsible way to live and i will do this and continue to do this and ignore the signs that this isn't working at all". its a really terrible and maladaptive coping mechanism

example, a dude tried to kill himself twice on our couch by going into hyperglycemia by just Not Thinking About It (plot twist: he's doing a lot better both physically and mentally rn tho)

my condolences, sucks to hear about that. hope you and her are on some sorta nice n good terms at least and she's got a good support network going

Not really, it's more so just having to justify the nature of my statement because of a misconception / presumption

sigh, rolls eyes,

Sorry to hear, Poison2007. Cancer is an awful thing to pass away from.

The next exam is tomorrow (Friday) and my alarm clock's date is incorrect so I almost had a seizure when I saw that my exam was allegedly this morning as I haven't finished revising.

It feels a little like a blessing and an eye-opener knowing that I have another day to revise.
