Title: Arcane Rivalry [J] [Pw]
Post by: quack98 on August 12, 2013, 21:55
Plot: Several generations ago, rivalry between Night and Day warlocks nearly destroyed Equinox, the city in which this RP is set. Now, around 100 years later, some have forgotten the terrible events of that time, and the city is starting to stir. Fights between warlocks are making daily life in the city harder and harder, and so many mundane citizens have had to gain fighting skills to survive.

Location: Equinox is usually a nice city, similar to London. It has a fairly plain climate, little bit of rain occasionally, but for e most part dry and about 25oC in summer. It is effectively London but in an alternate Earth. There are a fair amount of alleys, which is where the fights started, however they've spread even into the high street.

Magic:: This bit is mainly just to give you an idea of what extent of power magic is in this RP. Magic is divided into two halves, Night & Day. Night isn't evil, by any means, it is just more about being subtle, and doing underhand tricks to gain the upper hand. Day is more focused on direct damage, and has a particularly large aspect of Pyromancy involved. The specific types of magic will be described below.

Necromancy: Death Magic - Night - The only truly evil magic, it usually involves calling on spirits and tormenting them into doing your bidding. Only a particularly seasoned necromancer would be able to summon a body back to life, and it is likely they would have to have devoted there whole life to necromancy.

Pyromancy: Fire Magic - Day - Raw destructive magic, fireballs tend to be the first thing a novice pyromancer would learn, and most Day warlocks can conjure one. Warlocks that are devoted to Pyromancy can conjure more impressive creations, the most famous conjugation was a flaming tiger, by Blake Phoenix, a pyromancer from the original wars.

Telekinesis: Displacement Magic - Night - Truly the magic of pranksters. Most warlocks are capable of lifting light objects from up close, but a seasoned Telekinetic warlock is capable of undoing complex locks from afar, and even pulling planes down from the sky.

Geomancy: Earth Magic - Day - Basic level geomancers are able to split rocks, which isn't very impressive, and so most geomancers tend to quit before learning high end spells. The greatest geomancers are capable of creating fissures down streets, but very few have achieved this feat and lived to tell the tale.

Divination: Fortune Magic - Night - The warlocks of this Lore are able to see into the future. For most beginners, this is only a second or two, giving them the advantage in hand to hand combat. Even for some that practice for years, they can only see a few days. But the very greatest of diviners can not only predict, but alter the future, although to a very small extent.

Biomancy: Life Magic - Day - Control over plants, and even there own genetics. Beginners can force instant growth in a plant, although it takes a lot of energy to do so, but greater biomancers can turn their flesh to stone, and other equally impressive feats.

(If you would like another type of magic, please PM me and I might add it, but it depends on the magic)

Name: Edan
Age: 18
Gender: Male

Physical Description: Edan is tall for his age, about 6 feet even, however is small and does not weigh much, many people classifying him as a lightweight. This is because Edan overworks himself constantly and does not lets himselp gain excess weight. He has sightly tanned skin, and has dark blonde, almost brown hair. Despite his magic type, his eyes are a deep, blue. For some reason, he sometimes walks with a slight limp.***  He always wears a t-shirt, a pair of jeans, and fingerless gloves.

Character Description: Edan is a hardworking, never-say-die, kind of person. He is very likable and loyal to the friends he makes. Sometimes, he is over protective and tries to interfere in a fight if he is worried his friends will be hurt. Edan is also constantly on the move, preventing him from making many friends. Yet, he himself is reckless, constantly throwing himself into every adventure he can.

History: Edan first lived in a small village near Equinox with his parents, as an only child, he was forced to make friends. As he turned 13, his parents were killed by a mysterious figure, and said figure kidnapped him. Edan was then, forced to learn necromancy, but escaped his kidnapper. He then went and sought out help from another master, who taught him his current magic. Now, he searches for the person who kidnapped him, and took his parent's lives.

Carries a staff made of tigerwood named Wild Blaze. It gives him power when he is weak or near death, it practically revives him. However, after the energy fades, he is rendered unconscious.

Has a great interest in the stars.

Hands and body glow (with fire) when angered, scared, or sad.

(VERY IMPORTANT!): Sometimes his mortal body will stop moving, eyes will glaze over and he will see pictures and hear voices that are not there. Some are memories, others are for events to come....

That's fine, but one small thing, maybe I didn't explain it well enough, but by max 15 day, I meant as in 15 across the 3 (as in, 5 in each, or 3,5,7 or whatever). But if you change that, it's fine. (And the same with night, however that is 5 across all 3).

Having just the first name is fine, it doesn't particularly matter.

Anyway, I've done my form:

Name: Nikolai Phoenix
Age: 17
Gender: Male

Physical Description: Around 5'10" in height, not too short or tall, he is fairly thin for his age and height, but somewhat surprisingly strong for his build. He has dark brown to black hair, which is quite long, he has it styled in a way similar to this: (http://s8.postimg.org/3z308patd/image.jpg)

As for clothing, he tends to wear dark clothes, usually a dark pair of jeans, a shirt, and a denim jacket. When he wears jackets, he always has the collar up. For shoes, he usually wears black leather shoes, usually with no laces or Velcro.

He has deep, azure eyes, which often make people more comfortable round him. Although both his parents were fairly tanned, he is very pale, to the point he looks ill. He has very little in the way of facial hair, it just never started to grow.

Character Description: Although he is easy to talk to, Nikolai trusts few, mostly due to his history. He always assumes the worst will happen in every situation on the inside, but will act cool on the outside. He would never do anything to harm anyone, and will often go out of his way to save even his enemies.

Most people like him, even though he is often cold towards people, people just seem to be able to see through him, and realise that even though he tries to act cold, he is actually a kindhearted person.

History: Lived with his family until 3 years ago, when they caught him practicing Night Magic, they kicked him out and refuse to speak to him, and so he now lives with one of his friends, who's whole family practices Night magic. This friend is one of few people who Nikolai trusts, but Nikolai still acts slightly cold towards him, mainly because he noticed he was developing feelings for him, and had to push him away to stop it going further, as Nikolai doesn't want anyone close to him, as he thinks he's toxic, mainly because of his parents.

Magical Hemisphere: Night

Spread of magic:
Pyromancy: 5/10 (Learnt from when he was with his parents)
Geomancy: 0/10
Biomancy: 0/10
Telekinesis: 3/10
Necromancy: 3/10
Divination: 8/10

Other: Nothing else of note.

oh boy ive been waiting for something to jump into here
hahahahaha!!! laughs!! i now have an excuse to use one of!! my favorite ocs!!!

Name: Rebbekah J. DuFresne

Age: nnn i believe previously she was 16 but lets up that to 18

Gender: female

Physical Description: ho boy
Rebbekah is a tall girl, her legs making up a majority of her height. This is the only thing that's striking about her body type, however, as she's fairly average everywhere else and sort of rectangle-shaped. Her hair is white and very fragile, but she insists upon keeping it long and tied back. It falls out easily and is dry and frizzy under the black bows she uses to tie it back in segments; from her head to the length of a ponytail is one tie, down to the middle of her back with another, and the rest of it lays frayed out at the end when she's not feeling fancy.
Her eyes are a pinkish colour, giving her a sickly appearance to match her pale skin. Her albinism does keep her out of the sun and give her a weakness to most types of Day magic.
The only constant in her wardrobe are her worn out boots, her bows, and a leather glove on which her red tailed hawk Enza sits when she allows him to.

Character Description:
Rebbekah used to think she was invincible. Now, much different from the rest of society as it seems, she's mellowed out a little. She's fallen back from her urge to take things directly to an underlying, mischievous path.
The only animal she can stand being in contact for a prolonged amount of time is Enza, and even he gets on her nerves often. It's not hard to tick her off, but it is hard to keep her angry and riled up. She tends to calm herself in habit after a short amount of time and is not violent for very long. For the five or ten minutes she is hostile, however, it's best not to encourage this behavior.

History:
She led a life that was almost too normal for this world. Her future sight skills are only very brief and she does not believe it's magic at all, just a quirk in which she can inference what will happen very accurately. She has no visions, only distinct thoughts. This never altered her life at home.
Until she was twelve, she knew some people knew magic. She had no will to learn any, though, because who wanted to make plants grow? Who wanted to make candles dance? Maybe everyone else, but not her. Then she learned that rather than plants, she could make the dead sprout, and instead of candles, she could make spirits dance for her with only a little bit of... encouragement. She practiced Necromancy alone for years until her fiery spirit took control of her and urged her to teach the people who used Day magic and "nice magic" what her brand could do. Her parents never wanted much to do with her anymore afterwards, and she made do with her tortured souls she kept near her. Now she just wants to bounce back, make a reappearance on the scene.
She claims to be a new-found pacifist, but she breaks her own rules almost constantly and can hardly be called so.

Magical Hemisphere: Night

Necromancy: 9/10

Telekinesis: 3/10

Divination: 1/10

Other: her hawk, Enza??? owo

really she used to be a huge mary sue but maybe i can redeem her here yeah

Necromancy has been taken, Draghost.
Title: Re: Arcane Rivalry [J] [Pw]

Necromancy has been taken, Draghost.

You can have multiple necromancers, providing its not too similar to anyone else's spread. (For example, if he chose Necromancy: 9/10 Telekinesis: 4/10 Divination: 1/10, that'd be too close to Rebbekah's, as it only gains one point in Telekinesis, and everything else is identical)

The reason for this being, if I only allowed one of each warlock, we'd limit the RP to 6 people max, whereas this allows for a greater amount (whether we get that many or not)

But it would be more interesting if people would try and choose different specialities.

Just on a side note, you don't have to specialise, you can do a equal spread of 5/5/5, or any spread at all.

Name: Matt Lancaster
Age: 19
Gender: Male

Physical Description: Standing at 5'6", he has a fairly athletic build, from the hours he's spent jogging and exploring Equinox. He usually wears a faded pair of jeans, with holes in the knees, and a plain tshirt. He also wears an old pair of trainers, with bright green laces. His glasses are scratched and battered to the point they barely do their job anymore and thick black tape covers the arms.

Character Description: Typical of people who concentrate on telekinesis, he is a fun loving prankster. He spends his time exploring or figuring out new ways to mess with people. He doesn't like to be sat still for too long and will get very irritated if forced to do one task for too long. He tends to make light of  any situation, even joking around in the face of danger. He definitely considers himself a people person and always tries taking to anyone he finds interesting enough.

History: He grew up in Equinox, where he spent his time doing what he could to entertain himself. He discovered using telekinesis to wind people up was an effective way of doing this. Since then he's practiced telekinesis, pushing himself further and further each day.

Name: Chloe (fake personas aren't like me, my character will just be me in a different world.)
Age: 16
Gender: Female (Glad you asked ;) )

Physical Description: Not very tall but agile with good balance and rather bad hand-eye co-ordination. Long blonde hair (with middle parting and no fringe) and mid blue eyes, not thin but nowhere near fat, decent arm muscles and big-ish legs, features are somewhat small (hands, feet & ears) with pale skin that has small spots or zits here and there and lots of freckles. Definitely does not have big chest, although it is not flat either, nose and mouth are neither big nor small and are in perfect size relative to the rest of my body.

Character Description: Nervous disposition when confronted with the unknown, but is agreeable and outgoing, she doesn't like to get on the bad side of others and when things go wrong usually cries. Is very picky with food and does not like curry, seafood (including fish) or green vegetables but will eat practically any fruit, meat or sugary food. (I included the food preferences because I felt the need.) Not a fan of conflict or fighting and much prefers exploring and having fun. Is socially awkward when facing sad moments. She is intelligent enough to survive and is filled with often very useful pieces of information.

History: Grew up in a small town which is called (for all intents and purposes) Kiverton with both parents who did not believe in magic. At the age of 12 she ran away because she knew that magic was real and that she had a talent for it

Name: Comet
Age: 38
Gender: Male

Description: When I stand over you before you die, neither of us would believe that I am, in fact, no taller than 6'3." Whether or not you deserve to even lay eyes on me in the first place, you would see me as a monster. A pale-faced vampire with frightening eyes, black pupils that are literally deep, making eye contact the greatest stab at one of your senses that you may ever experience. Blood-red irises tightly ring this deep, sorrowful part of my eyes, divided into multiple red rays, like a staircase leading into an abyss of morbid pleasure, each strand representing one warlock scum whom I've killed. My silver hair isn't squared around my head, nor spiked up, but has a gentle, rounded look, while it isn't too long. It would stir calmly above my forehead as you are pinned down by my slender shoe, numb from its dull, stubby heel, too unconscious to be scared, dead in every aspect yet having a sliver of life. Like red thread on a spool, my usually blood-stained upper fangs curl over the stiff, lower projections, which I have relied on, for my pleasure intake, ever since I’d sealed my fate for the better. I had undergone a strange transformation at some point in my life, ever since I had devoted my life to Necromancy, whose power overwhelmed me, and I believe that is why my eyes have turned red and fangs have grown in. Whether I'm killing or lying bloody on the streets of Equinox, I always dress in the pale, silky robe of a warlock, whose sleeves are ringed with a golden grain pattern on a band of purple fabric at the rim. It once belonged to my father.

History:

                                                          26 years ago...

     "Silver!" the boy's father, a young-looking man with dirty-blond hair like dead grass, screamed. The boy that he had once loved now stood over him, glaring at his father with red eyes through his silver hair. "Silver..." the father's voice softened as he lost a great deal of hope for his son. The man was on the floor, desperately raising his head slightly over his lying body to see, looking frightened and helpless, holding himself up with his right elbow on the ground and inching his body back into the corner of a dilapidated cabin.
     "You fear me... how pathetic. A father who fears his own son? I've determined that you are only a father in title. You see, I've chosen Necromancy over you, and at this point I only want to get stronger... you are in my way. You will only make me weaker by bringing about some sympathy I have locked away somewhere inside for you... By killing you my heart will no longer find anything else challenging," the 12-year-old Silver calmly explained, as a drop of blood funneled down onto a strand of his pale hair and fell to the ground.
     "I...do not understand. You... Silver... you would never think or act this way. What has brought about this desire?" Silver's father asked, hoping to find an answer that would convince him that his son was innocent before dying.
     "When I was seven years old... you told me about the arcane war that nearly tore Equinox apart. You described the magic that flew between enemies... You described how your father had been an influential necromancer who had made an enemy's skull fall off his rotting neck... You told me that you grew up to be a fairly skilled biomancer who had trained himself in secret long after the war was over. And then you tried to tell me that magic was foolishness, but by then I was already lost in the image of Necromancy, the only thing that you had described in great detail. To train in secret as a biomancer you must have had some guidance to keep your powers stable. Wherever this source of information was, I never found it until you left your warlock's cloak behind. I found out that you had been carrying a book on the arcane, something that I took from you and kept with me from then on. I used all the time I had to myself to practice the Necromancy I had set my sights on," Silver closed his eyes and explained to his dying father.
     "Silver! You need to answer my question... Why exactly have you gone mad?" the man got up and asked with a stern look on his face.
     "At some point later... I had an awakening. Some force inside me emerged and cut my senses in half. I felt pleasure... I felt as if I had begun a transformation... That all I lived for was Necromancy. You may not understand this feeling, though you claim you are an experienced biomancer... Because I am the one who stands over you now with the intent of killing. You are barely on your feet and allowing that to happen. You will not even fight back. I will answer your question more clearly; I have not gone mad. I have been chosen by Necromancy," Silver muttered, throwing his head into the air and shouting out the last line. He swept his tongue all around the outside of his mouth and tasted the drops of blood he collected on it.
     "...I see. I hope Necromancy abandons you and leaves you on your knees. In other words, I hope that one day you will return to your senses. Goodbye... Silver," the father cursed his demonic son, prepared to die at his hands.

Necromancy: 10/10
Divination: 3/10
Telekinesis: 2/10

Biomancy: 5/10

Other: As the boy Silver grew older, he devoted his entire life to Necromancy, and eventually took the name Comet -- the only name he would reveal to his victims before killing them from then on. Power-hungry Necromancers know him as the "Chosen Necromancer." To those who have avoided death at his hands, he is known as the "Cursed Necromancer."

Firstly, please accept my apologies for not getting back to y'all sooner.

Just read the forms, Chloe & Moon Chaser, yours are great, and SiteHaunter, that's very detailed, and once the character description is done it will most likely be a yes. (Although your character is obvious from your physical description, I'll still wait for you to write it officially, mainly for formality & completeness)

actually im like 99% sure that was done on purpose. its usually a lot easier anyway to incorporate the whole character in a segment than strain it out over two different areas
uhhhh,,, idk i just felt like i should pop in and say that really i dont think thats necessary but youre the leader here and i respect whatever decision you come up with

((I'm going to refer to myself in the first person))

I'm walking through the village back to the house where my teacher, Afi, and I reside. I make it back there and i'm surprised to see him there. "Edan, it's time  for you to take your final test. Pass this, and you may go out on your own to master your craft." He said. "Ok, what is my task?" I asked him. "Your task," Afi said, "is to control your fire and burn the group of trees surrounding our house, without the fire even touching any part of the house."

Name:  Siofra (SHEE-frah)
Age:   27
Gender:  Female

Physical Description:  Siofra is shorter than average for a woman of her age, making her appear less of a threat than she may actually be.  She is olive skinned with a slightly round face; her eyes are a dull green, her nose is a little large and her mouth seems to have a natural smile.  She has a chubby-ish figure with slight curves.  Her hair is black and reaches down to her waist; she usually ties it back in a loose bun.  Clothing-wise, she wears whatever she can find; her preferences are tank-tops, T-shirts and trousers.

Character Description:  Siofra cares very little for other people and has a very 'survival of the fittest' mindset.  She shows her childish nature through tricks and pranks; though she is clearly an adult she only shows maturity through her manner and intelligence.  Siofra is patient and tolerant with people, though that doesn't keep her from being mischievous.  She can't be said to hold a grudge as she never tries to get personal with people.  She is very intrigued by new knowledge about magic, and likes to read in her spare time.

History:  Siofra remembers very little of her family because she chooses to.  The closest to her childhood you will likely get out of her is that she grew up in Rorke.  To those with the knowledge, Rorke is notorious for its bad history with magic as much as its discrimination against it.
          Growing up through adolescence, Siofra lived away from civilisation in the countryside, finding shelter where she could.  She practised magic tirelessly.  Whenever she found herself in populated areas, she caused whatever mischief she could for various reasons, but it was commonly in the name of self-gain and boredom.  She especially enjoyed 'haunting' unsuspecting travellers to steal from them.
          Only recently has she decided to travel to Equinox, believing that she will find a good challenge for her magical abilities.

Magical Hemisphere:  Day

Spread of magic:

Pyromancy 2/10
Geomancy 9/10
Biomancy 4/10

Necromancy 0/10
Telekinesis 5/10
Divination 0/10

Other:   She has a bit of a fondness for animals, but prefers plants as 'pets'.

The scent of burning wood fades away as I douse the flames of my fire. I look across from the mountain, there is a vast expanse of barren land before me and in the distance a cocophany of bright lights, the rush and flow of a city echoes to itself through the emptiness like a farway shout of rejoice. I can make out some buildings by silhouette in the evening light. Tomorrow my fate will begin...

"You have until sundown." said Afi. He walks inside the house, seeming to trust me completely. If my task fails and my fire catch on the house, he will die, and I will be responsible. I can't risk his life, so instead of doing something rash, as usual, I control a stream of flames to the nearest trees. I see part of it near the house and immediately put it out.

((Note that my thoughts are in //)

//I must do this slowly, but swiftly. If I go too fast, the house will burn, if I go too slow, I will not finish.//

As I work, the flames would creep closer to the house, then I would put it out. I finish just as my teacher comes out. "You have done well, you may come and go as you wish." he says.

Later that night, I pack for my journey to Equinox, which includes polishing the staff that Afi gave me. I have no idea what it does but he told me, "When you are in dire situations, this will give you power, but will also drain it. Use only when there is no other way out of any situation." So, I go up to the roof, and glance at the stars, wondering what my new life will be like.

It's getting fairly dark, must be around 10pm, and I'm sat on a brick wall outside a reasonably reputable take-out in Equinox. As I watch the strangers go by, I wonder how many of them know magic... How many of them practice the lores I betrayed... How many are in this...

\\I know how much this rivalry destroyed the city years back, and I really don't want to fight... I guess it can't be helped, but I'll just try to stay out of the way of Day Warlocks as much as I can...\\

Equinox is larger than I had thought.  There's litter on the pavement and a scent in the air that made me cough just a few minutes before.  It's probably good that I came into the city at night; the fewer people to run into, the better.  I'm too tired to sneak out of sight anyway.  There's nothing about my clothes that makes me stand out to people anyway.  I imagine they must think I'm just another ordinary teenager, which is perfectly fine by me.

I stop by a wall covered in what I believe is street art.  I look around, carefully taking in passers-by, and I can't help but let my thoughts wander.

//How many of these people know magic?  How many can manipulate it?  You'd think that with all I've heard about Equinox, there'd be more signs of warlocks for all to see.//

I cannot sleep, my mind is filled with made up tales of adventure.
// What will I find in Equinox? Friends? Enemies? What will I learn about myself? What more will I learn of magic and what it entails? //

So I set off. The walk was hard and my feet got sorer by the minute until I felt like there was a gaping hole where my feet used to be but I did not stop until I reached the City Limits. The sun was about to reach over the clouds and grace the skyline. I stopped to watch but fall asleep from exhaustion where I had sat down.

The next day, I set off for the city of Equinox, excited and a bit nervous. I've heard many different things about the city, and not all of them are good. Good thing that the distance is only a day's walk. Right outside of the city limits, I decide to stop for the night. I gather enough wood for a good sized fire, and ignite it. I lay down and settle in for the night. Then, I look around and see a girl, about the same age, maybe a couple of years off, who seems to be asleep.

//Should I wake her up? Well, no, that would be rude. However, what if something happens. I'll wait until the morning.//

I look up to the night sky, and wait for sleep to overtake me.

I feel slightly numb, Opening my eyes I see bright sunlight and quickly shut them again.

//Great, sunspots on my eyes. How long have I been asleep?//

I feel the burn of eyes on me.

//But how many? two? four? eight?//

I reach out with my senses, being a Biomancer often paid off. One person. Male. My age give or take. Friendly? Who knows?
I attempt to sit up.

Come daylight, I feel obliged to hide myself in an alleyway near the city limits.  Even at the edge of Equinox, there are still more people than I'd like.  I let out a long sigh as I watch them.  They seem ignorant; it's surprising, considering that this is the third alley I've been in since arriving where there's an obvious sign of magical conflict.  On the opposite wall is a large black stain, one that I can safely presume is from a strong pyromancer.  Any one of those people could just set foot down here and they'd do a double take.

Before I leave, I focus on the pockets of a couple of business-types on their way to work.  Their wallets slip out freely and float over to my waiting hand.  I take the cash and loose change I can find inside and toss the wallets away.

//Just a few hundred more and I can probably get a place to stay in the city, if I felt like it.//

I smirk to myself and walk out into the street, blending in with everyone else as I make my way to the nearest pub.

Matt walked down the street in Equinox, looking for someone to prank. While it was light it would be more difficult to successfully pull off the prank he had in mind. It would be too easy to prank the people around, so he broke into a jog and made his way to another area of the city.

Eventually he sat down on a bench to catch his breath. So far no one had caught his attention.  Boredom soon set in. He looked around at the people around and settled for a far simpler trick. Using his telekinesis, he knocked off the hat of a stranger, as if the wind has blown it. Each time they went to pick it up, he would move it a bit further out their reach. Matt couldn't help laughing at him.

I lean forward to try and catch what she says.  She's sensed me.  She claims that I'm a night warlock.  I completely lose it.  I throw back my head and cackle loudly.  It takes all I can to stop myself from falling out of the tree.  I don't even bother deflecting the pebbles thrown at me.

Rebbekah, being one of the many homeless youths in Equinox, was walking the street in the windless morning when a man suddenly cried out in surprise. Being only mildly disturbed by this, she turned to watch him chase after his hat down the walk. From her place under the overhang of a nearby building, she too began to snicker at his shenanigans. It seemed she wasn't the only one, laughing, though.

//I wonder who that jerk is. Laughing at the poor man, what a mean boy.// She thought sarcastically with a wide grin.

As soon as Matt had finished his trick with the hat, he was back to looking for something to do. He looked around, to see if anyone interesting caught his attention. He smiled, as he noticed someone snickering. "I suppose you though that was pretty funny?" he said as he jogged towards her.

"And who is to say that night warlocks are in the right?" I call after them.  "What is the justification behind the actions you make?  The actions that day warlocks use to paint you as scum just as you do for us?"

//Stubborn.  They're all stubborn.//

"Children, I suggest you be careful here in Equinox.  Trust - careless or otherwise - will likely get you killed by any warlock here."

I leave, heading back into the city in a different direction from them.

"Funny? That was rude." She retained her huge grin, even when trying to reprimand him. "What if he's late for work? Or has a fancy meeting and comes in with a big oil stain on his hat. His will be the only hat on the wrack that looks like it was salvaged from a homeless man. Maybe he'll even be fired." she continued to laugh to herself. Boy, she was funny*.

"I'm a night warlock. People such as yourselves are accepting of people, and will only turn against someone who has done wrong to you. Others are not so accepting, and cannot put the past behind them. If a battle arises, I'm sure you would side with day warlocks, I wouldn't accept anything less, but the point is that when you aren't fighting, you are judging people on themselves. Which is why I will help you. This way" I say, as we come to a fork, and I turn right.

"So, Edan..." I begin. I try to find the right words but they catch in my mouth as I attempt to talk.

"So, Edan," I reiterate, gently this time. "What was that you said earlier: about Necromancy?"

//Why did I say anything?! I'm so stupid!//

My hands start to glow, surprising the other two.

//Ok, I need to calm down.//

My hands stop glowing.

"Alright I'll tell you. My history with magic starts at 12. One day, back in my home village, a strange man came to my family's door. He wanted me to come with him. My parents said no. So-" I start to tear up as I say the next part of it. "he killed them, with necromancy and kidnapped me. He then forced me to learn that same magic. I was able to escape, then fled to my current master Afi. He took me in despite what I was taught before. That's how I learned pyromancy. Now, even with this new magic, I can't forget what I was taught by that necromancer."

\\I can see that Edan has reason to hate night warlocks. I'd better make sure he knows I'm not a necromancer\\

"Erm... Listen. I just feel I should say this, for your security, but I know very little necromancy, the bare minimum to be classed as a decent night warlock, to be honest, and so don't worry about me being like him" I say, trying not to sound sympathetic.

I'm back on the streets near the city's edge.  There are fewer people here from the street I had left, and I can't say I don't know why.  This area is one of the least friendly.

As I make my way further in to Equinox - I'm not in the mood for dealing with trouble, perhaps later - I spot the faint black of smoke rising a couple of buildings away.

//Looks like a pyromancer or two got into a fight.  Not all of the warlocks can put the past behind them, it seems.//

I smile.

She keeps her position standing in the middle of the sidewalk. She doesn't wish to stand next to him, anyway, he already seems sort of unpleasant. Not that that'd ever stopped her from making "friends" before. Plenty of her buddies were extremely unpleasant.

"Yes. Just around here" I turn a corner, to find that the metropolis e had just came from ended abruptly here. I was used to this change, I'd visited her so often, but I don't think Evan and Chloe are quite so used to having such a sudden change. There are no buildings, just trees, and unless you look back, you wouldn't believe you we're still in equinox. A trail of orange fallen leaves make a path to a shaky wooden shack, which although it doesn't look very grand, it still feels welcoming. "Just in there, that's were we shall meet her." I say, calmly.

"Erase your memories?" She accentuates the 'your', clearly amused. The light on her face ebbs and flows but as she says this the light flares for a moment and I see the other side of her face properly for the first time, it is lined by scars and is disfigured, badly.
"Yes, if you don't mind." I say politely. This woman was creepy, but hopefully I didn't let it show.
"Okay then." she says, malice in her voice and most likely, evil in her heart. Suddenly I regret this idea.

((I've left it here because I don't know if anyone else wants to conduct the memory erasure, I think it would be good if Dick wants to do it because obviously, it's his RP, & if anything goes wrong then he's gonna be the one to sort it out, also right now it feels a bit limelight-ish and I don't want it to be like that, as soon as this is over my character will just be going along with everyone else for a while.))

(( lets make it interesting then! ))
"I want you to erase my memory of my parents." I say, evenly.

Eclipse enters my mind, hers feels like cold, sticky sludge upon my own and she begins to rifle through my memories, it hurts a bit at first, kind of stinging but then I work out how to block the memories I want to keep safe from her. I keep only one of my parents, from when I was very little. The time they took me out on the lake for my 9th Birthday and we fished, and we laughed. That was the kind of memory I wanted to keep. Unfortunately, bringing forward the memories I wanted rid of meant having them flash before my eyes, the time they scalded me for asking them whether they knew any magic, the time they beat me for being too curious all before my eyes until I sift out the last one, the night they argued with each other about me, and I ran away. Then as fast as lightning, they were all gone. But still Eclipse dug deeper into my memories, trying to get at them, get rid of them too! "No!" I moan. And use all my power to force her frosty, sludgy self out of my brain.

I steady myself on the table, breathing heavily. "What were you playing at?" I yell at her. "You think it's alright to just carry on into something that I wanted to keep private?!" I glare at her.

^ I reach out to her and tighten her windpipe, threateningly. Before releasing her. ^

"C'mon, lets go." I say to the other two and leave the room, without payment and without farewells. Not that they would have been necessary.

My energy is leaving my body at an alarming rate. Just before they caster can finish me, I point my finger at their direction, figuring out who it is, and ball my hand into a fist, catching him on fire. He releases his hold on me and I manage to get out, "What is your goal, draining my power?! I have done nothing to you!"

He answers, "You are traveling with a night warlock. Why with that scum?"

//Day warlock. Biomancer//

He lifts his hand towards Chloe....

A wall of rock shoots up from the ground, blocking the three from the sight of the biomancer.  I step out of the shadows, now seeing an opportunity to have a bit of fun.

// Finally, someone's looking for a fight.  It's a shame they picked someone else. //

"You know, it's a bit hypocritical."  I lean against the wall and sneer at the biomancer.  "You call Nikki here 'scum', yet you're the one using underhanded tactics to kill someone off by draining their energy.  And it's not even the one you insulted!"  I raise an eyebrow.  "Times like this I wish most warlocks would get their act together."

I shake my head.

"Don't want to, dear."  I give him a glance.  "Unless you have a death wish.  He just drained you with biomancy, or did the experience rattle your brain enough to make you forget that?"  I sneer back at warlock.

Suddenly, my knuckles harden; my skin looks cracked and rough like rocks.  I stomp the ground and, with force borrowed from the ground, I'm sent hurtling forward along the ground.  I swing both fists in front of me and, when they make contact with the biomancer's chest, my momentum suddenly stops.  He's sent flying back and slams into the brick wall behind him.

I straighten up and roll me shoulders, focusing on getting my hands to their normal flesh form.

// Ah, the thrill of geomancy.  This kind of biomancy doesn't hurt either. //

I give the ground another stomp and the rock wall crumbles apart; it slowly merges seamlessly back into the ground from where it came.  I frown at the limp body before me.

"Seems like he wouldn't put up much of a fight anyway.  Pity," I mutter, turning away.  "Where oh where can I find a challenge in this city?"

((Well, you killed what I had planned, thanks. :dry:))

I yell back, "No it didn't, and I can fight my own battles!" It doesn't seem believable, since I can barely stand. I fall to my knees, as I fall, I cast a fireball at the limp body to make sure he's down. I promptly faint. Right before I black out, I mutter loud enough for Chloe and Nikolai to hear me, "Dammed biomancer."

\\ Siofra seems like she wouldn't turn down any fight...  Maybe I can use this...\\

I begin to concentrate wholly on one thought.

I picture myself looming over Siofras cold, blood-stained body. It is in an alley, the two of us being the only ones present.

I now put my palms out, and a swirling purple orb appears in my hand. Upon shouting "Ignito Siofra!" And the orb flew, seeking Siofra. Ready to give her a false premonition.

\\I love these things... Invisible & harmless. Yet, they often cause the most damage\\ I think to myself, smiling.

((I hadn't intended on killing him, sorry. :( I didn't want to make my post too long, though.  I WAS going to have him playing dead (biomancy & flesh manipulation, since he seems to be a strong one) and let you take over since you brought him in. I can go back and edit the post to reflect this if you want, just say the word. :) ))

I dust of my hands.  I look up just as I sense something nearby, and see Nikolai looking in my direction.

// So Nik really DOES want a fight? //

My sense of direction is hazy for a moment, and an image of Nikolai looms above me.  Reminds me of our first encounter, but the sight is complemented by a dark alley.

This has to be an illusion.  My mind tries to fight it, but i'm not prepared enough.  Just as the illusion starts to get real, just as it confuses my mind and instinct takes over, I sense movement in the ground behind me.

"You're still... not clear, kids," I call out, stumbling.  This Nikolai reaches a hand out towards me.  I smirk and slam one foot to the ground; a group of rocks shaped like spikes shoot forward.  They would have pierced him, had this Nikolai not moved out of the way.

\\ Well, she didn't take to kindly to that, unsurprisingly. But maybe if u try something a little out of the box...\\

I stare at the ground below Siofra, and then extend my hand. I had recalled that as heat is vibration, it stands to reason that if I use telekinesis on the ground, it will raise in temperature...

"Hey. Siofra. Ever feel like you're in a heated situation?" I say, with a cold smirk.
Title: Re: Arcane Rivalry [J] [Pw]
Post by: MzLuluZombi on September 08, 2013, 12:13
// I have to give him credit, he's good. //

I focus on the ground beneath my feet.  The vibrations grow more intense beneath them until small rocks burst forth and cover everything, from my toes to the base of my ankles, with a 'shield' of rock.

"Plenty of times, Nikki.  Out of curiousity..."  I raise my fists high above my head and bring them down to the ground.  It quakes for some moments - I hear some things falling nearby, perhaps plant pots or something similar - and I smile.  "...just how long can you keep up this trickery before you lose focus?"
Title: Re: Arcane Rivalry [J] [Pw]
Post by: quack98 on September 08, 2013, 12:23
"Oh, don't worry about my focus. Anything you attempt is... Predictable" I say, making every word count, but putting particular emphasis on 'predictable'. I levitate about an inch if the ground, via telekinesis, ergo being immune to the ground shaking.

\\ I think that threw her off a little, but she's too good to back down easily.\\

I shoot a column of flames out next to her, being careful not to harm her.

\\ Day magic. That should throw her off\\

I smile, but in a quirky way.

"I'm just wondering.  After all, if I've learned right, you are either using technique where you have something act as an anchor for this show you've put on - " I send a shower of pebbles in the direction of the Nikolai near me, who proves to be pretty evasive for an illusion - "or you're using your mind.  One fades when I find the source, the other when you can't keep it up."

I feel an intense heat nearby.  My skin shifts and hardens to protect myself from the heat and I smirk.

"And it all depends on time, doesn't it Nikki?"  I raise my arm and move it though the fire I feel nearby.  I see the sleeve of my hoodie set alight and burn.  My arm remains unharmed, save for the sweat that forms on its now rough surface.  "And time is something I have plenty of."

"Time, you say? I don't believe you do have plenty of it at all." I say.

I use divination to create a new illusion. A false image in her head, an image that its all to real to be fake. But it is.

The illusion I've created, time slowing down to a standstill, her trapped in a paralysed time. No-one can see this illusion, bar her, as its all a false premonition in her mind...

\\ this should scare her... It's not harmful, but certainly terrifying\\

((That's ok Siofra, I'll make it work))

I wake up to Nikolai and Siofra fighting.

//I'm gonna stay out of this one.//

Just then, that accursed biomancer stands up and attempts to drain my energy, again. I catch him on fire, pull out my staff, then I charge. He smirks and lifts a hand to me. I scream as the energy leaves my body. The guy laughs evilly and says to me, "You! The one who walks both the paths of day and night! You are also not wanted in this world! Now, to finish the job...."

Suddenly, my staff glows a deep blue, odd, since I'm a pyromancer. Nonetheless, it catches Siofra, Nikolai, the biomancer and Chloe's attention. I find ((as in shake off)) off his hold on me. I attempt to use my staff to cast a fireball. I succeed, only, it's much bigger, and it's a violent shade of blue. It makes contact with the biomancer, he flies back an hits the brick wall again.

"I can't imagine that would be too good for your medical bills." I tell him.

//So, that's what Afi meant by amplified power, wait what about draining power?//

"So, to imagine this all happened in 1 day."

The man speaks, "You, all of you! Beware the one who walks both paths!"

Suddenly, I feel like I can't move.

//So, this is what draining power meant.//

I fall forward, not able to stand.

// If he wants to play the waiting game, that's fine with me. //

A strong magic appears somewhere nearby.  I can't see it, but I can sense it; it could wake the dead (no pun intended).  It's even enough to make the illusion shift, though it still stands.

I can't help the smile on my face.

"Don't flatter yourself, Nikolai.  If I wanted to take shortcuts with my fate, I would have learned divination myself."  I look over to the tree I had overheard them talking about earlier.  "I'm more of a material person, you could say.  Your kindness and promises aren't of value."

// They're the sort of thing that can get you killed in this world. //

I look back at him.  "If you have anything that would interest me - something valuable, precious, or cold hard cash - I'd be persuaded to take you up on your offer."

I look carefully at him for a while.  Then a smirk comes to my face and my eyes grow cold.  "Although, there is something I've been meaning to get, and if you wish to play a part I'd happily be an ally.  For now."  Then I shrug.  "Of course, it would involve some mischief, some thievery and just the small hint of execution.  The choice is yours."

\\ I really want to help her here... I don't know why, she's just plain weird... But I can't kill \\

"I'd be happy to help, but I refuse to kill. I'm sorry if that seems weak, but I can't bring myself to murder" I say, no longer looking her in the eye, knowing that she'll be laughing at my weakness.

I look her in the eye again. "Although, you may regret searching." I say coolly.

"Guess, I'll never know." I say, pretty much to myself. I sit up an wince in pain. //Must have been from fall.// I look around, trying to grasp what happened. I  hole in a brick wall, an unconscious, possibly dead, man, and smoldering bricks.

I bark out a quick laugh.  "If those are your feelings, that is fine.  The execution would only apply to us, if we get caught."

I gesture over to the tree.  "There are some things magical that are out in the open.  And then," I point towards a random building, "there are things out of sight.  Locked up.  Have you ever visited the Equinox Historical Museum, by the way?"

I wander up to the grass at the bottom of the tree, inspecting the small flora growing at the roots.  "Rumour has it they have a special section for warlock history.  Not much on display there, though.  A shame, really, since they have an awful lot in storage."

"You handled the situation when he got back up, dear.  Best pick up your stick."

I extend a hand over a few flower buds that have yet to flower.  They shiver.  Slowly, they grow and blossom; buttercups.

"Two things.  One is so simple to get that no-one will even realise it's gone.  The other is trickier.  That's where the risk of death comes up."  I look at him from over my shoulder.  "If you have nothing to bribe me with, then your assistance in that area would be appreciated.  You won't have to worry about the earth swallowing you whole."

// For the time being, at least. //

// Soifra is a decent person but what will this entail? What will it mean for my future? I question myself too much, but this makes me want to find out more - to get involved. "Ok, great!" I say. Then, something hits me, something that man said. "Guys, I just remembered something. Not to be naive or paranoid, but the biomancer, not Chloe, of course, said to beware the one that walks both paths, day and night. I'm positive he's referring to me."

I raise an eyebrow at the other boy - Edan, I think his name is - and give an amused smile.

"Who doesn't walk both paths?" I ask.  "I hardly imagine anyone would isolate themselves to just three paths of magic.  Well, save for the more extreme of 'loyalist' warlocks."  I take another glance at the body.  I can sense some spec of life still there, but I can not tell if it's still in the attacker or just a sign that it used to be.  "Unless he meant something more cryptic."

"I have to say that I wouldn't live to be a warlock now if it weren't for, 'the stain on the magical community' that is 'night magic'."  A wallet hovers next to my head and raise an eyebrow at Nikolai.  "It serves me well.  Speaking of which, I think this is yours."  I let the wallet float back to Nikolai, a smirk on my face.

"I think we have all dabbled with magic that is not ours. I think what Edan means is that he has walked both paths completely at some point in his life. I however also think that the Biomancer meant someone who is walking both paths as we speak. Someone who practices all magic constantly." I leave this hanging on the air and lean back against the wall. Looking at Soifra and Nikolai.

"I'm not picky.  I've learned not to be."  I take one last look at the tree.  It's soothing, in some strange way.  Not in the same way as trees apt for hiding in within forests.  Then again, it was technically magic, so maybe that was why.  "We have hours to kill, so to speak."

"That's quite the achievement.  Mine burnt to the ground."

I don't take a moment to see Edan react; I'm too busy observing this new sight.  I've never seen a place like this before.  On postcards in cheap shops, perhaps, but not up close.

"Well.  Equinox is quite a mix of things, isn't it?"  I look up at Nikolai.  "This must be a busy place come nighttime.  And I can't even see the damage left from any duels here."

"Very few duels occur here, it's a peaceful end of town. This way." I turn into one of the buildings. The interior is predominantly cream & gold, with a large crystal chandelier in the lobby. "Certainly looks better than most of the restaurants I've snuck into."  I take another look around the street.  Maybe this was some kind of neutral ground that warlocks had.  I don't really know, since this kind of rivalry is something I haven't had the pleasure of observing in the countryside.

Before I walk in, I lure a few notes from a woman's purse as she walks by oblivious.  I slip them into my wallet before I look at Nikolai.  "Anything you'd recommend to eat?"

"Don't worry. I'm listening." I reassure the group. I'm tired - like exhausted.

^ I reach into myself and make my heart rate a little faster, to keep myself awake mostly. // How come I've never experimented with changing my appearance? Maybe I'm too obsessed with self-defense. Maybe I should try it! // Curious I reach all the way up to the top of my head and then out into my hair starting from the roots and pushing further away to the tips. I turn the very ends of my gold hair blue. It feels odd to be changing the colour of something like this. but I am satisfied. ^

"Hey, guys!" I say, excitedly. "You know all this stuff we're meant to be doing? I have an idea... I can change our appearances. What if it wasn't us that got caught in the act, but someone else?" I grin at them, hoping they get my drift.

I cringe a little at Chloe's suggestion.  I glare at her darkly.

"I shall manipulate my own appearance, thank you."  I turn away and face the restaurant.  "Besides, if things go well we won't get caught.  If we do, we're dead.  They might even call one of those old warlock meetings I've read about; a public execution.  Lovely thought, don't you think?"

"Can't read a thing.  It's probably going to be tougher here to keep your barrier up, what with so many warlocks in one place.  You practise your guarding in your sleep?"  I check my hands as I speak.  I go over to the sink to wash them clean of dirt and the faint smears of red from Edan's/her opponent from earlier.  "Can't imagine you'd need to before, but you might now."

"Looks like it."  I slip into my own seat and take a good look at Edan and Nikolai.  "So, what were you two actually discussing?  Necromancy in public?  Really?"  I give them a smirk and lean back in my chair.  "Good thing role playing is a thing among normals, or they might get suspicious."

\\Damn! She's good... I didn't really expect her to doubt our topic... Ah well...\\

"Ah, just small talk, y'know..." I say, rather awkwardly, whilst trying to remain a cool tone that just doesn't fit the dialect used. A waiter walks past our table, and the smell of freshly baked dough from the pizzas wafts past. I take this as a last-ditched effort to change the topic
"Is the smell making anyone else starving?" I say, in a tone heavily showing it's just to avoid answering properly.

((Bah, where are your table manners?  XD  ...Also, I think you just invented hydromancy.   :o))

"Lasagne here," I add to the order, folding my menu and holding it up for the waiter to take.  "And a glass of red wine for myself, if you please."

"Afraid not.  I was looking for someone up for a challenge, and then I got bored."

The waiter places a wine glass in front of me and holds out the bottle of wine to show me.  I take it from his hands and pour a glass, waving a dismissal.  The waiter leaves, not sure what to make of me other than my appalling manners.  Well, that's at least what I can read of him.

"That's when I saw you lot coming out of that house.  I'll say that I wasn't expecting a biomancer to come up like that; as strong as he was, only a master would be able to pick him up."  I take a mouthful of the wine and gulp it down.  "Speaking of which, what was so important in that house?  Interesting place it was in, I can say that much."

"I was having some of my memory erased" I say, quietly. I pour myself a glass of wine, even though I am to young to drink. I take a sip and it tickles my throat on the way down, leaving a horrible aftertaste. I smile at everyone as if to say "OK, get on with your lives, don't mind me."

"Say no more."  I ignore Chloe sneaking some wine for herself (hey, it's none of my business; I'm not a babysitter) and take a smaller sip from my own glass this time.

I carry on drinking the wine, feeling my face contort as it runs down my throat. I finish my glass just as the food arrives. I stare at the big plate of lasagna.

// I don't fancy eating this, to be honest.//

I push it around my plate a bit, occasionally picking up a mouthful to eat. It tastes nice but the smell of Parmesan in the air puts me off it.

I sigh at Chloe's slow pace of eating.  After wolfing down a couple more mouthfuls of my own meal, I call the waiter over and order some ciabatta bread.

"Don't have to eat fancy if you don't want to, Chloe," I point out.  As if to prove it further, I stuff my mouth with a huge bite of lasagne and plant my elbows on the table, ignoring the glare the waiter sends my way as he gets the bread.

I eat slowly at first, then speed up the pace just a bit then look a Siofra, already halfway done and ordering ciabatta bread. I tell the waiter to get me some as well. "Well, Nikolai, you were right, this place is nice." I say. I take another bite as another waiter comes back with a pitcher of water and refills my glass. "Thank you." I respond as he bows and retreats to the kitchens.

Surprisingly, Chloe finishes first.

I finish a second glass of wine before I answer.  "We go to the museum and find a way to get in unnoticed.  The regular locks will be easy with telekinesis but the further we get to the good stuff, the harder they'll be.  There's a good chance some locks will be magic-resistant for certain areas.  I might be able to pick them.  If not, we may need to knock a few doors down."

The waiter approaches and I add, "After all, some people must have something to donate to the fundraiser.  Can't stand when posh people aren't charitable."

He leaves with our plates and glasses and I drop my voice again.  "Aside from that, we have to 'wing it'.  I hope you have some idea of the museum, Nikolai, but once we get to the restricted section there's no telling what's there or where we go."

"Hmmmm.... Knock a few doors down you say..... I think I can help there, well, without burning anything of course." I finish off the bread as the waiter comes back with the bill and to take the ((Board? basket? Meh, basket.)) basket away. I look at the bill, "Hm.... Pretty cheap." I respond, dropping the amount of money needed, keeping an eye on Siofra, who is grinning mischievously.

I nod at Chloe's suggestion.  "You've got a sharp sense.  Just be sure you let us know when you sense warlocks, and remember what I told you about before." I smirk a little and lean back in my chair.  "And don't tell us what kind of warlocks are there until you're absolutely sure, okay?"

"I know the museum quite well. You recall I said I wasn't staying with my parents? Well, the father of the person I'm staying with is a guard at the museum, so he's shown me round restricted areas before" I say, getting rather exited for the events to follow. "And Edan, you aren't paying all of it." I use telekinesis to slip half the move back into his wallet, and replace it with my own.

I raise my eyebrows at Nikolai, and I can't help the smile or approval on my face.  "Good thing I ran into you when I did then.  I doubt the 'item' that will possibly get us killed was in the areas you were shown, but it could be close.  Better than going in blind.  And we can feel free to take a couple of things for ourselves anyway."

I snap my fingers at a waitress nearby to get her attention.  "Best be heading off soon, then."

"Fine" I say, briefly, standing up, and overtaking Siofra. "it's this way." I say, losing my excited tone, and reverting back to the cool chilling tone I was using before. "I hope you don't underestimate the security, though." I say, trying to put her off slightly, and hastening my pace.

"Well, you are the ones who wanted to form an alliance with me.  I gave you opportunity to back out, remember?"

I push open the door to the restaurant and step outside.  I take a deep breath of the night air.  Not as clean as in the woods, which only makes me miss roughing it.  Oh well.

"Speaking of which, you're still free to walk away, if you don't like being left in the dark."
Title: Re: Arcane Rivalry [J] [Pw]

"Walk away?" I say, surprised. "As if." I pass off the idea even though earlier I was considering it. I follow Soifra into the night air. I draw up beside her and catch her eye. I smile. "I'm ready for an adventure!" My hair flutters onto my face in the breeze, in one swift motion I sweep it away from my eyes and back over my head, I look around at Nikolai and Edan and smile.

I snort a laugh and shake my head.  "You seem to be showing some doubt in my goal, though.  I don't blame you one bit for it."

I take a long look around, seeing if I can sense anything.  A human, a warlock, anything.  If there is something unpleasant out there right now, it's good at hiding.  I focus back on Nikolai.  "If you behave and stop prying, I won't assume that's you're wussing out.  Now, which way to the museum?"

Matt looked around completely bored out of his mind. Perhaps if he wasn't so picky he would have found something to do by now. He was about to give up and call it a night, when a group of people leaving the restaurant caught his attention. "Perfect." He begins following from a distance, trying to figure out the best way to go about pranking them.

I feel as if someone is breathing down my neck. I hear noises in the distance. Someone's there, I know it. I allow my hands to start glowing, and hold them up without turning around.

//Heh, I was right.//

"And you are?" I say, turning around, revealing the stalker.

I spin around. I had sensed a presence but I'd thought it was just someone coming out of the restaurant. I grunt in surprise, a boy a few years older than myself stands before us, he is tall and muscular, wearing glasses and plain but tatty clothes. He has a rogue, "devil may care" look. 'Hellooooooooooooooooo!' my brain screams but I push the words away. This boy is a potentially dangerous stranger.

// How strong is the question. //

I shake my head and lightly tap Nikolai on the shoulder.  "I doubt he wishes to antagonise four capable warlocks.  I advise that we leave him be and continue moving.  He persists, we kill him."  I look at the newcomer and smirk.  "I doubt he'll want that.  Unless you wish to form more alliances?"

      "W-What are you?!" A frightened Pyromancer screamed, lying on the floor, backed into the wall at the end of an alley. "It really is strange that a Pyromancer is shivering, when I had been convinced that every one of their kind is warm. Equinox is home to many insignificant worms like you... who allow themselves to be defeated by a Necromancer, while they are still holding back energy inside, because they are too scared to use it," I told the weakling who lay helpless with his fire magic leaking out and boiling his own pooling blood. "What do you need... from me?" the Pyromancer croaked. "I will consume you... That is all," I answered the dying fool. "Now, Coward of Equinox... be eaten." My fangs opened wide like the Gates of the Underworld, and a sharp hiss came out like an escaping demon. I bit into the man's neck and sucked the warm blood of a Pyromancer, wiping away the rivulets of blood coming down his neck with my tongue. The skin around the bite began to decay into a gray color, swelling around my fangs like dirt under a gravestone, as I charged my bite with Necromancy. I removed my jaws from the rotting body.
       My triangular tongue slithered under the Pyromancer's eyeball like a blade wobbling out of shape, pushing his eye out to fall into my palm. I licked away the blood on the outside of my mouth. "I have had my meal. I am done with you... Pyromancer scum."

I take a look at Matt. ((Going by your forms description))

He has a slender, muscular, athletic build, he's a few inches shorter than me, but he definitely could be of use. Doesn't seem to have much of a sense of responsibility though, layed back in the extreme. At least, that's the impression I get of him...

He has battered, faded jeans, I guess he does seem rather hungry for action...

"Siofra? Chloe? Edan?" I enquire to each of them, evidently asking their thoughts.

     When I emerged from the alley, having left the dead Pyromancer to rot, I noticed a woman staring in shock, with her right leg drawn back and positioned sideways, preparing to run in that direction. Her quivering hand was barely reaching out in front of her body, as if she was desperately trying to find her index finger so that she could point at me and shout, "Monster!"
     The woman opened her mouth to scream, but my hand had already pierced her chest. The scream never came out; the woman's mouth remained open only because of the shock she was experiencing following my blow. Her head fell forward suddenly, and she coughed blood onto my face. It was the blood that cut short what would have been her last breath. I ripped my hand out of the woman's chest.

      I stepped back so that her head could fall onto the stone. The helpless woman had been a biomancer, albeit one who had never seen a killing before. A waste of flesh. My ghostly-pale hand dripped with blood.
      I will not be here for long. The jail I intend to storm is up ahead. The foolish "overlords" of Equinox think that they can contain most of the mages running around and spitting flames here. Setting up a detention center is pointless. The law thinks that it can save the poor, doomed Equinox. The city will perish, and if not now, then whenever else I decide.

"Sorry, I've just been through a lot today, some more than Siofra here knows."

"Someday you'll realise 'I've been through a lot' will lead you nowhere.  And if you're trying to get some sympathy or take a jab at me, I'll tell you now that those tactics just make you look weak."  I say all of this without looking at Edan; my gaze is fixed on this 'Matt'.

"My conditions remain the same as with you three.  If you wish to join our endeavours, Matt, I have no problem.  However, there is no turning back; what we plan risks death, whether we are caught or if one of us were to become a traitor."  I raise an eyebrow and look up at him in the eye.  I can't tell if he's trustworthy, but I sense no reason for him to betray.  Still, we're all warlocks here.  "No questions, no answers.  Not here, anyway," I say, waving a hand around at the still public street, "you never know which walls have ears in cities."

I notice Edan pull out his staff and grimace.

// Really?  That thing again? //

//Hmm..... So, what now?//

I toss the staff a short distance into the distance, rotating it ((helps my character think)), trying to decipher Matt's intentions. I decide to think later since we will depart soon.

((Now for a twist))

I tap it at both ends and it shrinks. I put it in my pocket, noticing Siofra's disdain for the wooden instrument. "What? It helps me think, and I don't do it all of the time. Why go right into a potentially dangerous situation without a backup plan?"

"If the backup plan is to get yourself in deeper trouble, fair enough," I mutter.  I turn on my heel, just about ready to start leaving.  I glare up at Nikolai; I'm not angry with him, but I'm sure that we need to get moving fast.

I smile at Edan's joke and turn on my heel to follow Soifra and Nikolai. I have to walk fast to keep up with them but soon I am alongside Nikolai. I glance at him sideways but I can't read his expression. Up ahead there is a junction with five possible directions, one a very dark and narrow alleyway, one leading down a wide road lined with shops that had brightly coloured signs but no lights on, two of the others lead to rows of houses and the final, I imagined, would take you out of the city. "So," I say, breaking the ice and catching Nikolai's attention, "Which way?"

Matt follows closely behind the group, smiling. He didn't have a clue what they were up to, but that was half the fun. What challenges would he face, what were they doing and were they serious about the risk of death? These questions bugged him, but rather than scaring him away, it just made him want to find out even more.

      The guard standing outside the jail fell backwards stiffly. What a stick. A slang term for a Biomancer that is helpless, defeated, and drained of his energy, without any branches. Like a stick. Only a coward would fall backwards. A man with the will to fight would have fallen forward and died in the motion of his next attack. But he had lost the will to fight. I froze the inside of the Biomancer with a cold stare, while on the outside the cold of dead consumed him. His branches, the veins through which he channeled his energy, froze as if it were winter, but soon his body was covered in the red of autumn, and he bled to death. I enjoy describing the fate of my victims in great detail. But killing guards is not what I've come here for.
      I broke through the wall of Equinox's jail, sending a Pyromancer on the other side flying into the opposite wall. The Pyromancer's comrades turned and made the grave mistake of looking me in the eye. My vampiric stare stretched open their irises wide with fear. The guards shook themselves into a stance. They charged their Pyromancy and released it, leaving themselves wide open. I grabbed a guard by the face and charged Necromancy in the palm of my hand. His mouth was wide open with fear, which would along with the decaying stench of his body emerge and fill the room, letting his comrades know that death was near. The guard's body and bones rotted, all except for his skull, which held his frightened expression for a moment before it hit the ground and snapped shut. More Pyromancers flooded into the room like a wave of fire. I focused Necromancy on the rest of the guard's rotting body, controlling it so that the decaying parts could stack up. This is the process of reviving a body to a small extent. I drew the fallen skull to the top of the mound and caught a fireball on the skull. "You have fallen into my trap," I said, licking around my mouth and smiling. "You've helped me to create a flaming skull."

      "...A flaming skull?"
      "Yes, exactly. There are so many things you can do when you take advantage of an opponent's attack and use the objects around you."

      Dark energy was tangled in the red flames around the skull, like blue fire coming out of a normal flame. "Let me tell you this... A truly skilled mancer knows how to combine different elements of the arcane. In this case, the fires on the skull are burning on their own, or they are tied to the Pyromancer who released them, rather, and are feeding off his energy as long as they're burning. Now, I've combined my own Necromancy with this stray Pyromancy, creating an object that can make the effects of each element stronger by having them work together. You understand that fire spreads quickly. As the flames crackle from this skull and reach you, they carry the essence of death and decay. So as you burn, your body rots, and these effects will spread as the embers pop and land on you. In conclusion, your death comes quickly but more painfully," I explained. "You scum will understand."
      The skull threw flames onto bodies, and as they burned, they passed on the fire. The guards were dying twice as fast. "Let your own wave consume you," I said.

I look down the road but can't see much, I follow Nikolai, a pace behind. "Do you know where the smoke is coming from?" I inquire. It is of no particular interest to me, I just hope it isn't the museum. The smoke, as we turn to face it, covers the moon, blotting out the stars and sky so all was dark.

Edan's reluctance to kill amuses me, I may be a day warlock but that doesn't mean I am not prepared to kill someone and this situation, I think, is a case of 'Go hard or go home' in which case I will go hard... "No killing."  My gaze is hard on Chloe and Edan, though it isn't quite a glare.  I focus on Chloe when I say, "Use your biomancy to sense guards and warn us; no more, no less.  If we come to confrontations, use something else to kill them."

I look around the alley to take my sight off of them for a moment.  "We keep as a group and we avoid lingering in one place too long.  You venture off on your own, you get yourself out on your own.  Keep your guard up unless you want any warlock worth his salt to sense you."

My gaze is on Nikolai now, neutral.  Hopefully the weight of how serious this is will finally sink in with these children.  "Chloe is right, though.  If we aren't careful enough, the guards will find us and they will arrest us.  Interrogation.  Torture.  I will most certainly be executed for what I know.  You all will likely be executed just to make a point to the people of Equinox.  The higher ups won't stand for this kind of 'magical mischief'."  I raise an eyebrow.

"Last chance for anyone to back out and claimed they never knew a thing."  The smallest smirk comes back to my face.  "Of course, I haven't told you enough anyway, so you could still have a clear conscience."

     Bones lay on top of each other like a pile of burning wood. The strongest Pyromancers of the dead were left with another bone that hadn't decayed in addition to the skull; some were even left with two. The smoke, contaminated with dark energy, was pulled down into the shape of a vortex, concentrated unusually in one spot. A hole opened in the center of the vortex, revealing the face of a determined Pyromancer who must have survived the flaming skull.

     "Oh, so you dodged the embers of the flaming skull, did you?" I stated.

     "Don't patronize me, you monster. I didn't dodge them at all. I was only fast enough to keep my distance and take control of most of the embers with my own Pyromancy. My fire energy worked slower than it could have, having to fight the Necromancy around each stray ember for control. I will kill you... for killing the 200 men who now lie on the ground, ready to become a part of it..." the Pyromancer said, lowering his head and only daring to raise it and look into my frightening eye as he swore the last line. The flaming skull shattered.

     "You shattered it, ...Pyromancer?" I asked.

     "In a way. Flames need oxygen, but arcane flames feed off of the wielder's energy. But the mancer who created that flame is dead. You killed him. And now, that lonely flame surrounding the skull has used up all its master's energy left in his dead body. So the flame has begun to weaken, shrinking into the skull. Since the wall of Necromancy is designed to hold the flame in place and control it, the dark energy shrinks along with it. Which allows me to focus my own Pyromancy to weaken the Necromancy from the outside as well. As soon as your magic shattered, my flames swallowed the flame that you were trapping, joining with it. The fire went in the direction of the more powerful force and ran that skull through with so much energy as to shatter it," the last Pyromancer explained with a smirk.

     "How amusing. Your comrades died before they could ever figure something like this out. Or perhaps they would have been too dimwitted anyway," I said in a laid-back, theatrical tone. "You do seem to be significantly more powerful than the others, however. Are you, perhaps, their captain?"

     "You're very insightful. For a demon," the Pyromancer taunted. His eyes shook with surprise. I was already moving to attack. My hand was about to pierce his chest. The Pyromancer Captain drew flames in the way of my attack. Ribbons of fire flowed through the air to his chest.

     His defense was late. It provided only light armor before my pale hand scattered the developing flames and pierced his body 21 millimeters from the heart. I jerked my hand from the Pyromancer Captain's body. My hand felt a burn. The enemy focused his energy on the spot in his chest and heated up my hand with it. One last trick. The Pyromancer wasn't dead, and I will leave him there... he will be of use to me later.

     "You are not the only one who knows the arcane well. Of course you would use your magic in clever ways with the experience you possess. But I myself am fairly good at figuring things out in battle. My mind works so that it mainly remembers things that can be used against others in the future. I have a feeling your blood will taste foul."

      Past the sea of bones, lying on the charred ground like dismantled prison bars, was the room where the mancers were being held. Blocking off each cell was not a set of bars but an arcane force field that nullified all magic used against it from the inside. The prisoners were still trying to fight it, to break free, having been brought in recently, but they were all too lacking in intelligence to find a way. But the man I came here for had his head lying flat on his fist, looking impatient, waiting to escape but not acting on his own.
      I broke the wall on his cell from the outside. "You are a pig. A Necromancer of your caliber lets himself be caught by dirty, inferior Pyromancers who call themselves 'the law,'" I scolded the man, the Necromancer, Cierro Necrotter.

"I was sticking to your plan, Comet," Cierro, a large, buff Necromancer with tanned skin covered in scars, explained.

"No, you are not, if you have not gotten up and come out of your cell by now. I am beginning to believe that I should rip open your neck and toss your drained body into the pile of Pyromancer skulls behind me."

"You think that frightens me? I can't get up because my legs have been constantly exposed to Necromancy bouncing off the arcane wall every time I tried to break it down. ...I'm joking, of course. You and I both know that Necromancers can control the flow of death, so if my legs were to come close to decay, I would push back the process of death with Necromancy, which is the magic that can regulate just that, and prevent myself from disintegrating." Cierro got up and walked past the broken glass of the arcane wall.

"How typical of you. Do you still understand my plans?"

"Yeah. You've discovered objects that each represent the essences of arcane arts. They are the condensed cores that allow a mancer to create an arcane mass and control it. These objects are the sources of power, and they are each found in-"

"You understand then. Fine. We'll stay here for a short amount of time. I need to see someone whom I am interested in. Stay here and kill anyone who comes by. Understand, Cierro?"

"I understand, Chosen Necromancer," Cierro replied. I stopped for moment, turning my head slightly, silent, with the blood-red of my gaze spilling over my shoulder, looking down on Cierro, who appeared so inferior and pathetic in comparison to myself, and I walked away. I left behind a trail of decay when I walked, as it was my Necromancy gobbling up the floor of the jail behind me like a hungry dog trying to pull me in the other direction. Soon, I will leave this city for my hometown with four others with me, where I will kill. I hail from the town Aprisen; the last time I had been there was when I cut down and killed my father 26 years ago.

((I have found a way to justify it, and the fact that Blaze's Pyromancy is at a level 10 helps it even more. I myself justified in the previous post that it's hard to kill an experienced Necromancer because he can control the flow of death as to hold it back and prevent him from dying for quite a long time after someone delivers an apparent death blow. I have a lot to justify about Necromancy in the future too, so Necromancy may be a very broad category by the end of the RP. Blaze, I'll send you a PM that will help you justify mind reading with Pyromancy if you need it. It will make your character look like a super-smart experienced battle-strategist Pyromancer. Even if that may make you more of a threat to my character. :yeswink: ))

"Cierro."

"What is it, Chosen Necromancer?"

"Look after this body. He is still alive. He'll come to his senses at some point. But now I need you to hold him. Do as I say." I swung the Pyromancer Captain's body by the leg and over my head, and it dropped on the rotten ground at Cierro's feet. Cierro's eyes went to the side in a reluctant manner. "Fine," he said.

"And," I continued, "free the prisoners. Force them to submit as soon as you do. I have decided that I will use them."

Cierro nodded. "My Necromancy has ranked 9 out of 10. I won't fail."

"Although they are worthless, don't underestimate them. They must have done some considerable damage to land themselves in jail and thus they must have some considerable power. And there are many. Keep your guard up and don't be a hotheaded fool as you usually are," I told him.

     A veil of Necromancy surrounded a skull on the ground, levitating it into my bloodstained hand. Ah, Necromancy. The way it has complete control over everything dead. I will not lift a finger... I can use the arcane to draw things toward me. "Keep a low profile, although you would think that Necromancers of our strength wouldn't need to. If I intend to kill, I will fight with a flaming skull. I will collect fire energy to activate the flaming skull from the bony remains of the Pyromancers I killed. Do the same. As I said, keep a low profile. We'll destroy Equinox another day, if it is needed. Do you understand?"

     Cierro nodded in uncertainty. A drop of sweat came down the side of his face and slid down his chin. He didn't know what to think when I said the two words "our strength." He must have been wondering: Is the Chosen Necromancer finally treating me as more than just a pawn? Large, bulky, hotheaded imbeciles like Cierro would always kill each other for my recognition. He could not think anything else, for the little he could think.

     The street by Equinox's jail was empty. There are mancers bleeding in every alley. I sense them. But not here. There is, far down this dead, silent street built over blood-stained dirt, the Arcane Academy, which had been established within the past 5 years, having started out as a secret society. It is now seen as Equinox's way of training its population, young and old, to defend itself from attacks by other, infamous mancers. There, I will find the second person that will accompany me to Aprisen. I will kill him if he refuses, and throw his body to Cierro, leaving it in the hands of an idiot. A suitable grave for one who will not succumb.

((Necromancy situation with your character? You mean Pyromancy? I can send you my suggestion and you can reply with your thoughts having to do with your character. We've got a deal.))

((This post is a narration about the Arcane Academy.))

~~~
     The Arcane Academy. Within the building the hallways are divided into separate wings. The place is a cake-like structure; a smaller floor is stacked on a bigger floor ten times over. Each floor fits into a round, flat bulge in the shape of the building. The first five floors are where mancers practice the arcane. Each floor has its own name and its own purpose; from the lowest to the highest of these five, the floors are known as: the Pyromancy wing, the Biomancy wing, the Geomancy wing, the Telekinesis wing, and the Divination wing. A sixth floor is visible, but that zone looks as if it is decaying and falling apart from the outside. No one can see into the dreaded sixth floor from outside the building. Likewise, it is unseen on the inside, as well as inaccessible. Once there were Necromancers studying there... but there is a rumor that an accident occured there, where a student was found dead long after when the situation supposedly happened.
     It was a male Necromancer, and it was frightening how his corpse was hidden. Two years, 6 months, and 17 days ago he was reported missing from home, and the school had nothing to say on his whereabouts. It happened quickly, but indignation erupted between the student's parents and the Academy. In the end, the parents had no one in particular to blame and no one to turn to. Their own anger collapsed onto them in the form of sadness, and they were losing hope, because they knew that the student, their son, was dealing with the arcane. Which meant, wherever the student was, his sudden disappearance surely involved the arcane and, as a result, likely death.
     It was only one week later that the missing person was found. In the dark of night the building was empty, except for janitors, who handled the Academy throughout its cleaning phase and always completed the job with arcane techniques. As if the sky was filled with Necromancy, the sun rotted away beneath the clouds like flesh and the moon showed like a skull. Night had come quickly, and so had the feeling that something was amiss.
     The cleaning Necromancers on the sixth floor were rotting away dust, dirt, and webs in the corners. Cleaning Telekimancers made simple repairs like shifting loose floorboards and clogging up cracks in the wall by locating and levitating the broken pieces back into place. A young man with dark hair, a cleaning Telekimancer whose magic ranked 5 out of 10, kneeled down to a spot of decay in one of the floorboards. The man, whose name was Kieyen, slid a spare floorboard into his hands from the pile of extra planks that he was obliged to bring. He was ready to replace the damaged one. He assumed that the damage was caused by the release of Necromancy from the students as they were practicing earlier that day. Kieyen levitated the rotted floorboard out of its space, and he was ready to lower the new plank onto the gap. But then the floorboard suddenly froze in the air.
     What Kieyen saw that night was a skull, resting there, in the pocket of space between the current floor and the one below. Not just a skull - a ribcage lay in the soil along with the rest of the skeleton. Only the ribcage and the skull were not covered by the Necromancer's robe. The most horrid thing about the ribcage was that the person's heart was there. It was a disgusting sight. Kieyen's discovery became a subject of investigation. Ultimately, the skeleton was identified as the missing student, but no stretch of investigation could ever determine who had left him this way.
     "What can be determined," an investigator explained, "is that this is the work of a Night Warlock. The spot of decay is, in fact, there because someone had summoned Necromancy. The fact that the floorboards hiding the skeleton seem intact means that whoever caused this most likely levitated the planks off the floor and threw the body under. We would describe the culprit as a fairly skilled Necromancer and Telekimancer. But we haven't been able to get any further with that information."
     The sixth floor was sealed off and shut down. The incident proved even more that Necromancy was evil magic. And so it was never practiced at the Academy again. But the sixth floor was still there, still noticeable. Still reeking of death. The silly rumor that extended from the tragedy was that the abandoned sixth floor was haunted by the ghost of the student who was killed there. Perhaps it wasn't a rumor, nor silly, after all. If the arcane exists, then so may a ghost. But no one would ever know. One month later the cleaning Telekimancer Kieyen was killed in the night near the town Kiverton. And like the situation with the missing student, no one would ever know who had done it.
     The seventh floor of the Academy is not as frightening as the last. This is the floor where the instructors work on discovering new forms of the arcane, apart from the elements that already exist. There the Academy is making some progress, but it has not introduced any new magic to the world yet. The Equinox law says that it is better if the Academy stays that way, or else civilians would have another thing to defend themselves from, with little time to be able to catch on and figure out the weaknesses of a new form of magic.
     The Arcane Academy's eighth floor is reserved as grounds for practicing a new arcane element if one were discovered. The ninth floor is where some of the Academy instructors stay and prepare to fight if the building were attacked, while the rest of them would hold off the intruders. Instructors are often seen here, even when the school isn't under attack, but for the most part, the ninth floor is a battleground.
     On the tenth floor the instructors relax. The office of the Master of the Arcane Academy is also located here. More than for the purpose of helping civilians defend themselves, which is what the Equinox law wants its people to think, the Arcane Academy exists to show how magic is becoming a part of people's normal lives. Students who graduate the academy usually decide to leave Equinox and settle elsewhere, and the tight Equinox law sighs with relief.
"Or if we did agree and happened to get caught, you'd take us out as well?" I inquire uncharacteristically forcefully.
I actually let myself laugh at that.  I don't know if it's the way these kids are trying to intimidate me or the way they're only just having their doubts.
// If they want to guarantee their survival, accepting deadly deals is a mistake. //
"And risk being captured myself to do it?  Oh, no.  I'd leave you in a second, and, if you knew anything about what they'd do to you alive, you'd wish I had offed you."
I turn to Nikolai to address his concern - which I hope is the last one, as time runs short - and give him a very satisfied smirk.  "Ah, so you are getting cold feet.  I have no intention of backing away from what I want to do more than anything right now.  Anyone who survives this has the benefit of my alliance."
I stride away from the group for a short distance and roll my shoulders, shaking my body out to properly wake it up.  "Now, if there are no further objections..."  I give the ground a couple of taps with my foot.  The ground in front of my begins to shift.  The gravel and cement move down in a long rectangle and form a staircase leading down into the ground.  After several feet it stops.  I look over my shoulder at Nikolai.  "What is the best place you'd recommended to enter from ground level?  Give me a general direction."
"Best? Well, that'd most likely be through that wall" I point toward a brick wall a few metres to our right. "But the easiest is more likely the entrance round the other side of the building, there's at least a door there"
"So, easiest is not the best and best is not the easiest. Any ideas on how to get through. I can do it, although it would involve setting off some alarms, or destroying the whole wall." I say.
I tap my foot on the ground a couple more times.  This time, I take in the area around us through the ground.  With Nikolai's advice in mind, I see the room on the other side of the wall, as well as the entrance.  From what I can sense, there are no guards too close around either.  Still, there are the vibrations of footsteps wandering near the entrance.  The wall seems to lead to a room; it isn't empty but I can sense enough open space to enter through.
"No doors, no breaking down walls.  We risk leaving evidence.  It would be best to go in from the ground up through there," I explain, gesturing to the wall Nikolai pointed out.  "I can feel guards somewhere near the entrance.  Two of them are making their rounds in that area.  It's too risky."
I slowly begin to descend the stone staircase.  At the bottom of my pit, an archway slowly begins to form, creating a tunnel.  I wave a hand to direct the group.  "I hope none of you are claustrophobic.  And, please, try not to distract me too much; I need to focus on being quiet."
I look at the staricase in awe, it seemed to be no effort to Soifra and it was very well made. I look down into the darkness but see nothing. 'keep quiet' Soifra's words echo and I am struck with and idea.
 "Lower your defenses, just for a second." I demand. And without waiting for their replies I reach into their bodies one by one.
^First Edan, then Nikolai, then Soifra and Matt. I brush each of their minds with my own, moving their body weight to the centre of their body rather than their feel or hands^
"There. Now you will make hardly any noise when you walk... but we have to keep the time spent in there to a minimum as the technique could have side affects - stomach ache, the usual things." And then I proceed to move down the staircase ahead of the group.
I freeze.  The ground, which was moving silently before, makes loud grating noises as the tunnel stops shifting a couple of metres in.  I whip around and look Chloe in the eye with a glare.
"Stop that.  Right.  Now."  I don't raise my voice.  I don't growl or hiss or spit.  There's just something about the tone of my voice that would imply a threat; a tone that would show Chloe crossed a line.
"But if you want to get caught..." ^I reach back into Soifra's body and return her bodyweight to it's natural state. In spite of my rage, I sneer.  I don't take my eyes off of Chloe's for a long time, before I finally say, "You have no idea about magic, do you?"
I turn away from all of them and take a deep breath.  Then I focus and continue leading the group.  My geomancy begins its work again, back to its silent work of creating our entrance into the museum.
I shake my head as I walk down the steps.  "Tell me that the rest of you know better?"
Upset, my eyes soften. "I'm not coming with you." I make to leave the group, feeling close to tears. "I'll see you when you get out..." I look at Soifra "If you get out." and then turn and my eyes find a bench maybe 12 metres away. I sit and try not to look back at the group.
I pause.  I can sense Nikolai's annoyance, but there's something beneath that that makes me disapprove.  The tunnel stops again and I call over, "Do not tell me you don't know what she did.  I know you are not ignorant.  You live in a city of warlocks, for crying out loud."
I shrug and wait as he asks.  "But if you wish to turn a blind eye because or her lack of knowledge, be it on your head."
Matt looks at Soifra. "You could have at least been a bit nicer about it rather than having a go at her. She might not have known what she did, but trial and error is the best way to learn." He takes a coin out his pocket and spins it on his finger with telekinesis. Why can't everyone just get along?
I shoot a glance his way.  "You live here too, no?  You know the trouble that kind of biomancy causes.  Don't tell me it doesn't bother you."
I lean against the stone wall, balling my hands into fists and stuffing them into my pockets.  "She's foolish.  She hasn't been taught properly; if she didn't learn before, she'll learn now."
I call in Nikolai's direction, "Remind her she knew full well of the situation or leave her be!  Either or, we need to get moving!" before resuming my place against the wall.  I wait.
"Ah.  There's that backbone.  And here I thought it was my heist."  I raise my hands in mock surrender.  I focus on creating the tunnel as silently as I can, slowly leading the way.
"From what I can tell through the ground, we may be entering through a back room.  A staff room or some storage space, perhaps.  We shouldn't have to worry about anything but guards until we get to the magic exhibits," I explain as I go.
// Keep it up and you'll see how I got a 4. //
"The magic exhibit will be up two flights of stairs.  That will be our first stop.  We can't end a trip to the museum without a trinket or two."
I slowly raise my eyes to the ceiling of the tunnel.  We're getting deeper and it's nearly pitch black.  I pause again.  I slowly raise one hand and twirl my index finger.  A small orb of fire begins to form; the tunnel is now just light enough to see where we're going.  As this happens, the staircase in the alleyway rises, leaving the ground seamless.  No turning back now.
"No sense in leaving a trace of where we came in.  Back to briefing," I continue, walking as I go.  "From there we need to go up.  My object of interest is heavily guarded, so we need to see everything as a trap more or less."
I sit for maybe, 5 minutes. The fire up the hill still flares and the moon shines brightly onto the city, we're on it's outskirts and I can see, deep within the city all the fire lights and beacons. I look around, a small breeze on my face. I am warm so I slide underneath the bench in complete shadowy darkness, curl up and sleep. Sleep instead of doing anything useful because right now sleep is what I need more than anything.
I tense.  "That little incident had nothing to do with getting caught, Edan.  I can't believe you're as ignorant as she."  By my tone I make it clear that, as far as I'm concerned, the topic is closed for discussion.
"As for traps; we sense them.   There could be any form of trap linked to any of our affinities.  If we don't sense them, the only other ways are being light on your feet, or to set them off and try to survive.  Nikolai is correct; traps to do with biomancy are easily detectable, and they run the risk of ensnaring guards.  We'll more than likely run into fire or telekinetic 'bombs'.  Be careful; inanimate objects aren't restricted in kind like warlocks."
It isn't much farther before we're under the room.  I say to Matt, "And the locks will keep getting harder.  They'll be a lot more challenging than mortal locks, I'll tell you that."
"Should be quite a nice scale for you though, Matt, it'll start with generic locks but by the rooms in the magical department... Well..."
I pull out a necklace from my pocket, and on it is a little charm that's sort of two pyramids base to base, it's fairly large for a charm.
"Magically locked, one of the best, I've spent many years gradually building the charms on this, even I can't undo it. So, try it, I need what's inside anyway. Just work on it as we go, if you'd like" I say, tossing it up in the air
"We're here."  I stop and look up.  Nothing has changed in the ground; the guards are staying within range of the main entrance, and nothing has moved in the office.
"If you would all keep your arms and legs close to your bodies, I'll lift us up."  A neat hole slowly shifts into the ground, casting the bright glow of fluorescent lights on us.  Beneath our feet I make the earth rise, slowly lifting us up through the hole and out of the tunnel.  The ground rights itself seamlessly once more.
We are in a room that seems to double as an office and a storeroom.  There are a couple of desks, shelves and several boxes here and there.  It doesn't look like much.  Then again, it isn't exactly meant for public show.
I observe my surroundings, the room is a crisp white colour, with many wooden desks in a faded white colour, there are boxes piled high, presumably with artefacts in.
"Can you tell us what we're getting yet? Or at least where we are going?" I ask, hoping I might actually get somewhere this time.
My sleep is far from dreamless. I dream that I am walking down a street in Equinox, I know it is Equinox because of the typical townhouse buildings that can be found in Equinox, but it is not a street I know. There are shops on one side and houses on the other but at the end of the street there is a huge building that looms over the whole city. The building does not look like the others, it is old and intimidating, painted an indigo colour and made out of wood. It looked as if it would be full of spiders and ghosts and if you pushed it, it would fall over. I am walking towards the building and with every step my fear grows. This is a dream. I tell myself repeatedly. You can't use magic here. My brain will not shut up - it chimes on and on. I want to turn and run but I can't. I am stuck walking hopelessly towards this building.
((Are you referencing Dahl?))
I'm standing there, considering what I've taken in, especially the insults of my ignorance.
//Hey, I don't know all this!//
Then, my mind shifts, all I see is gray, burned trees and burnt landscapes. Many singed bodies lay before me, all moaning for help. I'm the one who did this, I know it. Then, I see my old master, laughing and sucking the remaining life forces. "I knew you'd succumb to the power!" he says, "Now, about your energy, when I have it, I'll be the most powerful warlock of all time!". I yell back, "You're crazy!". The necromancer scowls, "Fine, I'll just take it from you!" A black energy comes forth from him to me. It consumes me. I scream. My body burns like nothing I've ever felt. What it would look like in real life is me, going stiff, silent, wide eyed with fear and in horror.
I'm magnetised to this... House against my will, through the front gates and up a long, wide cobble-stone drive that winds up to the indigo building, as I draw near to the house I getwarmer and the weather in the dream changes to a raging hurricane in which the house is the only building that remains intact. I cannot feel the wind of the hurricane and am not affected by it. I see the wind and feel the sense of wrongness about this house. //My arms. Can I move them? Can I pinch myself? // I try deperately to move my arms but no go. I see that the only way to get out of this dream will be to see it out. See it out or kill myself within it. I try to close my eyes so I can't see the dream.... And wake up.
((Oh. Well It seemed like it))
The scene shifts. Now it in a dark woods, where I was trained as a necromancer. I see my past self, and my master. I watch in horror as my past self is beaten for messing up, well, anything.
"Helpful, no?" I hear Nikolai say from the real world.
His voice fades, it goes to a black nothingness. Suddenly I hear a voice ((Much like the divination professor from Harry Potter))  . The voice says, "There is a prophecy, a time of great importance comes! Sun and moon will meet again, they will do battle, and shake the City's very core. " ((Sue me, I'm not cryptic)) The voice fades again, and both scenes play again, in much more horrified details. I feel my mortal body stiffen even further. My mind yearns to scream, but I'd surely get myself killed.
My mind shifts again.
I'm in the city, running. A mysterious figure aims a bolt of black energy at me, it hits a rat, instantly killing it. Horrified, I run faster. I trip and stumble. The mysterious figure laughs maliciously and turns to me. "Where's are you little friends now?" it says mockingly. "Now, I will kill you, just as I did to your parents!" I see a white light, but I know I'm not dead, yet, I'm not entirely alive. My spirit is in a realm of it's own....
I observe my surroundings, the room is a crisp white colour, with many wooden desks in a faded white colour, there are boxes piled high, presumably with artefacts in.
"Can you tell us what we're getting yet? Or at least where we are going?" I ask, hoping I might actually get somewhere this time.
I walk over to a pile of boxes, and take the second box down, I open it up and pull out a map of the storage area, I hand this to Siofra.
"Helpful, no?"
I take the map and look carefully at it.  It shows all floors of the museum, with each exhibit marked clearly.  There is no mention of any exhibit called, 'Arcane Discoveries', so it is safe to assume that it is one of the unmarked areas on the map.
// I can feel something strange about this map.  Of course! //
"They must put some kind of charm on the maps here.  That's how any magical visitors know where to go."  I look up at Nikolai and turn the map so he can see it.  "I'm not sure if it would work, but is there any chance you can use divination to activate the charm?  I doubt that fire, rocks, or plants will do anything."
My eyes are glazed over in terror, yet I cannot scream. Good thing that I'm not needed, or particularly wanted here, or even liked. :dry:
Each scene replays through in more horrifying detail each time. Then, the shocker, the scene with my parents. ((To come in next post unless I'm needed.))
"I'll do my best" I say.
I reach out and touch the map, I chant "Askrino Xyelou" twice, under my breath. ((just a note, Nikolai only does this when performing difficult magic to focus his skills))
A projection of light comes out the map, it's a blinding white light at that. As I shield my eyes, it dims down, but all that's happened is some rooms on the map are now glowing red. I take the first letter of each room, and try saying it. Nothing happens.
"I doubt that reacted for nothing, but it hasn't revealed anything useful..." I say, perplexed
It was dark.
Our family was about to go to bed when we heard a knock on the door. It was a cloaked figure with the hood over its head. I heard it say "The boy, give him to me." The figure saw me. My parents disagreed. Then, there was a flash. My mother slumped down, dead. "A necromancer, huh. Luckily, I'm one as well." said my dad. "Then why did you marry that day scum?" the figure rasped. "Shut your mouth." my dad replied. My father moved first, firing a bolt of black energy, the figure didn't even flinch. The figure held out its hand and turned the bolt around. It pierced my dad through the heart, dead in a nanosecond. The figure came to me, lifted a hand, and brought it down hard on my head. I slumped over, not dead, but unconscious. The hooded figure lifted me, threw me into a cart, and rode off....
I takes every bit of my willpower not to scream or break out in a bout of crying. My mortal body remains frozen.
((Also updated my character profile))
My eyes are full of sleep, I rub them wearily and while doing so I realize that I am not in the same place as I was when I fell to sleep. I am not longer curled up underneath the bench outside the museum but somewhere completely different. And warm. I sleepwalked.
Panic kicks in, I have only sleepwalked once before, the night I left. Left. Left what? Suddenly I feel lonely, the empty kind of lonely when you know you are missing something but you don't know what. All I know is that the fact that I have sleepwalked means something is bad. That bad thing is probably staring me in the face.
The burning building from last night. I am stood before it's gates, the heat on my face, the ruins still alight from the previous evening.
It is morning and the sun is about to begin rising, the smell of smoke in the air. I guess that it is maybe three am - as it is the height of summer - and that I slept for under three hours, however what time it was when the others entered the library, I don't know.
The others. They won't know where I am. I don't know how to get back to them. Will they worry about me?
I remain paralyzed. I keep trying to regain control of my body, but it's like I'm frozen, there until I somehow break it. This seemed to happen a lot since the kidnapping, but, why?
"Hmm."  I look carefully at the changes on the map.
// The rooms in red must be the magic-related exhibits.  Are the letters the names of the exhibits? //
"Well, unless we ask nicely, I think we'll just have to take a guess.  The exhibit we're looking at first is - " I say, but I stop.  Edan seems to have frozen up on the spot, his expression less than casual.  I nudge Nikolai and nod to indicate Edan.  "Something's wrong."
//I'm like a prisoner in my own body. What do I do?//
Suddenly, the light rushes to my eyes. The black fades, leaving the scene I saw before.
//It was that again. Argh. I'll have to research this.//
I look around, making sure I'm still in the right place. Thankfully, I'm still in the white room.
     A silver-haired, fresh, intelligent-looking man who wore glasses and a fancy dark suit was leaning against the wall of the Arcane Academy, closing his eyes and letting his head lean forward slightly as he smoked a cigarette. He liked to play with his cigarette a little and stir the rising smoke in the air with a touch of Pyromancy. The smoke gathered into a thick, skull-shaped cloud. The man converted the smoke into flames. A change of arcane state. He created a flaming skull, whose core consisted not of an actual skull but of the strongest flames in the fire that were constantly swallowing each other. It was as if the flames of the core were tied in a knot. When one flame within the core dives into and swallows another, it grows stronger by combining itself with the fire it ate, helping it grow strong enough to maintain a solid state for a second before the next flame comes around and continues the cycle. Ah, I didn't know you were a skilled Pyromancer as well...
     The man plucked the cigarette from his mouth and pushed it into the flaming skull to burn it completely. He opened his eyes and raised his head. "Do I interest you?" he asked from across the blood-stained street. He clicked his glasses with his two fingers.
     "You indeed do interest me. It's an honor for you to catch my interest, when I know nothing about you. I don't know how you live. I don't know how you eat. I don't know how you sleep. I don't know how you bleed. I don't know how you die. But I do know how you wield the arcane. Damien Manceter," I answer.
     "And what of it? Who are you exactly? How can you know my name?" the silver-haired man asked.
     "I have been watching you for quite some time. I have been a frequent visitor in Equinox over the years... killing and consuming most of the dead, keeping their remains for something important. I am Comet. But most who had nearly died at my hands remember me as the Cursed Necromancer. Power-hungry Necromancers around me bow down and call me the Chosen Necromancer. Now, what of the magic you wield? You are skilled in Divination and Pyromancy. Tell me, how do you rank?"
     "I am the instructor of Divination at the Arcane Academy. I rank 8 out of 10. As for my Pyromancy, I rank 5 out of 10. Do you think I would be of use to you? You appear to be the sort of bloodthirsty monster who would decide something like that."
     "Your Pyromancy only ranks 5 out of 10? Then answer me, how were you able to master the flaming skull technique? I understand that you are a Pyromancer, and so you don't need a skull to create it. I have mastered the technique but I need a skull to hold flames together if I want to perform it, since I do not have any Pyromancy of my own to stabilize the fire. How were you able to do it?" I asked Damien Manceter, having to fully understand the origin of his abilities before making him my pawn.
     "The seventh floor of the Arcane Academy is for developing new arcane techniques. The 'flaming skull' technique, as you call it, is something I picked up while training there. You've come here for my abilities, am I correct?"
     "Yes. I am planning to collect one other Necromancer, who is with me now, Pyromancer, whom I've captured from the Equinox jail, Telekimancer, who has secretly locked himself in the 6th Tower outside of Equinox, and a Divinator, you. I will leave Equinox and take it over one day. I will leave for the cursed town Aprisen."
My mind is at a huge round about, going around in circles with many different exits but with no idea which to take.  I can:I keep thinking and thinking and reach the same conclusion constantly, I wish to stay in the city - with the others but no matter what I do can't be sure that I will ever find them.
Then again, between them they seem to have a knack for finding trouble. - Look for trouble and you will find them. They are bound to come and inspect the wreckage here at some point.
I go off in search of a bucket and a water spout. - I find both of these things, just around the corner and return with two buckets of water a few moments later.
Before long I have gathered 3 dozen buckets of water and thrown each onto the flames but the flames do not show any sign dying out, at all.
Magical flames I conclude. I give up on dousing the fire and instead decide the best course of action would be to fire proof my skin. The process takes me a couple of minutes and causes me brief pain as I get used to the strange sensation. Then, fully fireproofed I walk into the flames.
Now, I've got some thinking to do.
//Alright, the field. I guess I duel my old necromancer master. However, why is this? Also, the weird prophecy. Argh.... I hate not knowing this. Question is, how does this relate to the mission at hand. Well, I've got a full plate. 1. Siofra is hiding something. 2. These memory relapses. 3. The prophecy.//
     "Did you say... take over Equinox?" Damien said, looking over his glasses and into my eyes.
     "I did say I would take over Equinox, didn't I? You seem surprised. I was sure that a Divinator would see that coming."
     "...I see. Take over Equinox. I have wanted to destroy it."
     "Ah, destroy it. As an Academy instructor, you must have been training here to prepare for that. What is your story, Divinator?"
     "This city, this accursed city, had taken the lives of my mother and father more than 2 years ago. Following the tragedy that had befallen the Academy, when no culprit could be identified in the mysterious murder of a student on the building's sixth floor, the obsessive Equinox law decided that it 'could not take any chances, as the murderer could still be among us.' It ordered the execution of every powerful Necromancer-Telekimancer in the building, as well as 'anybody who is close enough to be aiding the suspect.' I was one of these suspects, and that meant I had to be executed. But when the Equinox law appeared at our door, where my parents and I lived, we fought back with all the strength we had. My parents and I could only hold them off for 3 hours, until enemy reinforcements came. Quickly I witnessed both my parents being stabbed in the chest with sharp rocks. I will tell you... the guards were closing in on me and all I could do was shiver. I was inexperienced at that time. My Divination was only a level 5 back then, my Necromancy a level 4 and my Telekinesis a level 3. But they had come for me not because of the numbers I was given but because of my intelligence and how I used it in sync with what little abilities I had. I was sure that was why I was their suspect and why they had come to kill me. So I just lay there like a coward. Until something drove me to throw myself forward and fight if it meant losing my life.
     What I did then... I threw my hand onto the forehead of an Equinox guard and activated my Divination. You would know Divination as having the ability to see or to a further extent alter the future. But what I did with my Divination was a miracle. Normally I would have been able to see the future that we all share in one place, at that one time - that is how Divination works. At that moment, instead... I concentrated my powers on the guard and tapped into the future he, himself, desired. What I was able to sense was a branch of the actual future - a scenario - not what we Divinators all sensed and knew was going to happen. That guard's desired future at that moment was to kill me... so I altered it in a way that it would become true inside his head... and he would wake up believing that he had actually killed me.
     I flew from guard to guard, confident with my newfound power, when, finally, I had left each of them on the ground, so when they would wake up, they would report to their superiors that I was dead and they had succeeded. And that helped me escape Equinox to train what I new was my talent, Divination. All so I could return 2 years later and destroy Equinox for killing my family, if all I could do that day was run away. Comet... I am not alone in this. Though we may have different reasons for destroying this city, there are many people here that despise the Equinox law. I am the instructor of Divination at the Academy right now... but I have my own plans to sacrifice that position."
     "Is that so? The 'newfound power' you have described is classed as a level 7/10 Divination technique. It is impressive that such a skill would awaken when all you were given then was rank 5. Listen to me... despite how corrupt the Equinox law may be, my plan states that Equinox will be taken over. Have at it and destroy Equinox if you wish, when you join me and see my plans through to the end. Damien Manceter, you will serve as one of the four generals of my military," I explained.
     "Pardon? Military? It appears you haven't actually answered my question of who you are."
     "You will find out soon enough," I said darkly. "I wonder... how exactly is Cierro doing back at the jail?" I didn't care.
     "Cierro? And who might that be?" Damien asked.
     "A simpleton," I answered.
((Sorry, my internet has been cut off for the past week or so.))
Matt takes the coin out his pocket again, flips it and catches it several times. Each time he uses his telekinesis to hold it in the air for a few seconds as it spins and makes sure it lands on heads every time. "Are we going to get going? It's pretty boring standing around in here and I don't want to be here if a guard decides to walk by."
I shake my head and turn my attention back to the map.  I can tell there's something off about Edan - the staff was enough - but now I can't help feeling that he's going to bring trouble.
// Speak for yourself.  You'll be found out eventually, you know. //
I'm being careful to keep a block on my mind; with Edan poking his nose where it doesn't belong, I refuse to let anyone sneak into my head.  He shouldn't get past, being a lower rank in biomancy.
The map still holds no clues other than the first letters of each magic exhibit.  Nikolai's divination should have been enough to work.  I keep looking from area to area, when I notice something.  One of the letters is no longer on its own.  Slowly, more are appearing after it: The Mysteries of Merlin.
I smirk and look up at Nikolai, turning the map to let him see.  "Looks like your magic worked.  This map must be old, since it's stored in here; the charm on it would have aged too."  I look back to the map.  "We're looking for an exhibit called 'Arcane Artefacts' first; we can't simply leave the museum without a souvenir or two."
