Title: An Absolute Gem of a Journey [Emerald Nuzlocke]
Post by: Kerou 犠牲 on July 25, 2014, 11:04
An Absolute Gem of a Journey

Due to never playing Emerald fully and having never attempted a Nuzlocke Challenge (or at least not remembering doing one) I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone, especially with the RSE remakes approaching so hopefully we can all be refreshed storyline wise as to what's going on. I'm writing this out of enjoyment and nostalgia so hopefully we can get some readers, some followers and just a good experience all round =]

Also, if this seems to be slowing down too much then do give me a prod in the right direction since I will at least beat this game!

Rules:

- Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released.
- The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.
- All Pokemon must be nicknamed.
- The starter Pokemon must be with you at all times. If it ever faints, you die of heartbreak.
- Considering a black out/white out to be "game over," even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
- Going to options and making the battle style "set". Making you unable to switch out between your foes' Pokémon.

Introduction:

I had spent weeks and weeks wishing and waiting for this day to arrive because it meant that I could finally start my adventure as a Pokémon trainer. I was scared to leave Dad behind in Petalburg City but I knew he'd be more impressed than anyone to see me reach him in my quest for badges. Still, getting knocked around by boxes in the back of the lorry made me forget about that almost immediately, it wasn't the ideal start to the day. It made it an even bigger relief once we had arrived, not only had I escaped the torturous wrath of the boxes but I could finally be the person I aspired to be.

Entering my room, it was quite apparent that Mum was still trapped in the mid 2000s. Instead of getting the Wii U I had asked for for many months now, all I received was a Nintendo Gamecube. It's not like I'd be spending much time at home but I would still have liked to have had a break every now and then and play Mario Kart 8 with my friends from Petalburg. After setting up my PC, withdrawing a Potion from my PKMN.NET inbox in the process, I decided to wander downstairs to see what my Mum was up to. I was worried for her but didn't want to admit it, I knew she'd be crying over the fact that her and Dad decided to move away from each other for my sake, especially as I'd be leaving so soon. It must be such a bittersweet feeling to see your little boy grow up so fast...

Coming downstairs, I saw that she was watching the TV; judging by the look on her face, Dad must have been on the screen. Unfortunately, by the time I had got myself into a position where I could see it the report was over. Mum wiped a tear from her face, trying to hide her sadness and instructed me to go visit Professor Birch who lived next door. I introduced myself to the neighbours, Birch excluded, who wasn't there. His daughter, May, was around the same age as me. I get the feeling this won't be the last I see of her. It was strange how she said she'd go help her dad yet went to her computer instead. I took this opportunity to introduce myself to the good Professor.

Just outside of Littleroot, I saw my first taste of danger. Birch was in trouble, a wild Pokémon seemed to have taken a liking to his scent and decided to follow him in a not-so friendly way. Instinctively, I raced to his bag which he must have dropped in shock, grabbed a Pokéball and unleashed what was inside in the hope of defending him. The ball popped open and a ray of light began to take the shape of a small, chick like Pokémon. As it's colour began to form a realisation hit that the Pokémon I had released was a Torchic. Little did I know that this was the start of something  quite beautiful...

Looking forward to seeing this! I know a bit of what's been happening, but I've always enjoyed your writing style, so this should be fun. :)

It's gonna be a bit slow starting but it will pick up, I've got some ideas that I'm hoping to execute so let's see how well it goes =]

Chapter 1: In the Beginning

After an intense battle, I had managed to ward off the Zigzagoon that had been troubling Birch. He sighed hugely and wandered over to me, shaking my hand profusely.

“You saved me. Thanks a lot!” he exclaimed before realising who I was, “you're GL! Come back to my Pokémon Lab later, okay?”

I nodded in acceptance before watching him stroll back into Littleroot, dusting himself off with each step. Checking the time on my watch, I decided to return home to have lunch.

~a few hours later~

“Hello GL, it's a pleasure to see Norman's son grow up so much over the years. Do you remember the last time we spoke to each other? You were only 5!” Birch shouted in excitement as I entered his Lab.

“I vaguely do, I think I was too busy drawing me and Dad battling, even then I wanted to become a Pokémon trainer,” I chuckled, causing Birch to laugh to himself.

“Ahh, my daughter was the same. Enough of that though. I was really impressed with the way you handled yourself out there today, you had a natural ability that proved you were Norman's son. I was impressed so much that I'm allowing you to have the Torchic you battled with today. It's the least I can do.”

It felt like a moment of ecstasy; I was finally getting my own Pokémon. I'd never expected to get a Pokémon as saught after as a Torchic too, I was sure Dad would insist on me getting a Slakoth to follow in the family footsteps. I held the Pokéball in my hand tightly, staring deeply into it.

“You know... you can give him a name GL. Some say naming your Pokémon increases your emotional connection to them,” Birch added.

“I think I'll name him Oscar. Thanks a lot Professor!” I gratefully stated, causing Birch to nod like a proud uncle.

“Take care of it, and enjoy your adventure. Before you leave you should go see my daughter May, she too has just gotten a new Pokémon and it would be a great experience for you two to battle each other. I believe she has gone to Route 103 to do a bit of research; she's just like me,” Birch said. I nodded in response before leaving the Lab. I wasted no time at all in trying to find May, sprinting through Oldale Town and entering Route 103. I saw her in the distance, she rose from the ground and smiled at me, realising why I had found her.

“Let's have a quick battle!”

The battle was furious, both Oscar and her Mudkip were trying ferocious scratches and tackles respectively. Both had reached a position where they panting, losing energy and close to defeat.

“Don't let up Oscar, hit him with another Scratch!”

Oscar sprinted at May's Mudkip and jumped before swiping with one of its claws, hitting it hard enough to cause it to break down in defeat. May sighed as she returned her Pokémon to its ball.

“I can already tell why there's hype around you GL. It seems like you've got it. I mean, you just got that Pokémon but it already likes you... silly me, we should be getting back” May smiled. I returned Oscar to its ball and grinned to myself before heading home. As we approached Littleroot Town May stopped in her tracks.

“I know you're going to be leaving home, I too will be going. If we see each other on our journeys we should battle again. It'd be a good test of our own abilities. I, like you, have goals I want to reach and I think battling you will help me reach them,” May sharply stated. I looked back at her and nodded in agreement.

“I look forward to our rematch.”

We entered Littleroot and saw Professor Birch and Mum standing outside the house. The Professor walked up to us with an inquisitive look on his face.

“So May, how did he do?”

“He did as well as expected.”

“Well then, I guess you should take this GL.”

Birch passed over to me a box, immediately it reminded me of the travelling I endured this morning and began to give me a slight headache. Opening it somewhat tentatively, I saw a red device and five Pokéballs.

“The device I'm giving you is a PokéDex; I'm sure your father has told you about one of these before...”

I stopped in my tracks and thought back to six months ago...

Look GL, I've got something to tell you. Your mother and I... we're growing apart. Before you start worrying, we're not getting a divorce. The problem is that I'm too engrossed with work. I've got so much to do at this Gym that we're not getting enough time to sort things out and it's in a position where I can't leave yet. This is why we've made a decision that you and your mother will be leaving for Littleroot Town. You wanted to start your journey, right? Well, this will be your chance. Hopefully you can battle me. I'll make sure you get something to help you too. Don't be afraid to make the big leaps in your life now because you don't want to be left in the position I am now...

“Thanks Professor. This means a lot.”

Birch nodded before pointing me in the direction of my Mum. She was immediately fighting back the tears.

She passed me a bag and some new Nike trainers, knowing they'd help me zip across the region. Tears flowed down her face as she grabbed me tightly, unwilling to let go.

“Mum, it's time. I'll be back soon, I promise,” I said softly, wiping the tears off her face before hugging her one last time. Letting go, she nodded regretfully.

“Best of luck GL, I hope you have a gem of a journey!” Birch shouted as I began to walk off; without looking back a solitary tear dropped down my face. It was finally time.

So, another person who a new nuzlocker has done an RSE as their first. Good luck GL, and i'd recommend evolving Oscar before Roxanne, then again, that's obvious.

Thanks guys =]

I've got some things planned out already but I don't know how quickly it'll get posted, apologies if things look rushed too. Forgot to note down some of the stuff so I sorta did this as filler and will move onto more stuff on the next chapter ^^;

Chapter 2: What a Catch, Donnie

The sun beamed down brightly as I made each step, trying to regain composure following the emotional goodbye I had with Mum. I sighed to myself, knowing that I could put the emotions aside on switch my focus to what was in front of me. Petalburg City wasn't too far away from where we had moved to so I had decided to make that my next destination; after all, it would be the best time in months I could properly speak to Dad.

Once I got back into Oldale, I quickly entered the PokéCenter and allowed my Pokémon to be healed. As the healing process began I grabbed the empty Pokéballs from my bag and attached them to my belt. After seeing that May had been doing research in the fields above Oldale, I decided to make that my next destination in order to expand my team as well as my PokéDex's database.

There were no other trainers in the fields above Oldale, a few wild Pokémon were playing together except for a Poochyena which almost seemed above playing. I stared at it for a moment as before it noticed; it's eyes lit up, knowing that a serious challenge was ahead of it. I smiled to myself, knowing this could be my opportunity for a first catch.

“Oscar, waste no time at all by using Scratch on it!”

After each attack the Poochyena began to fall lower and lower to the ground despite trying to fight on. I wasted no time in throwing one of the Pokéballs at it. Just before the contact of the ball it sighed almost in relief, somewhat glad to be away from the childlike mentality of the other wild Pokémon. I quickly rested in the PokéCenter and moved onwards.

To get to Petalburg City I had to get through Route 102 which was quite short. A few trainers were gathered around together, testing out their own Pokémon they had just received. I was excited to test out my newly caught Poochyena, now named Alain. As I made each step towards the trainers a Lotad began to follow me; it seemed like it wanted to tag along with me and my party of Pokémon. I smiled to myself, knowing this would be a good chance to give Alain some action.

“Alain, hit it with Tackle! Again! Keep wearing it down!”

The Lotad could not cause much damage to Alain, making the process of catching it a lot easier than anticipated. I decided to name it Jay. Feeling confident with the amount of Pokémon in my team, I decided to train. Time began to quickly pass as each Pokémon showed huge signs of improvement. Deciding to rest for the night, I headed back to Oldale and slept for the night in the PokéCenter.

Getting Lotad is pretty lucky, make sure you protect that! Poochyena is helpful too, moreso than Zigzagoon, in that it has an immunity to the 7th gym, which Oscar (the best nickname ;) ) will hate.

I love your way of writing this, and this looks to be a pretty interesting one. Good luck ^^

there are two Pokémon I've been really happy about catching and Lotad's one of them, even though Astonish is just so bad =/

I actually would have preferred Zigzagoon but we'll see later down the road.

BTW guys if there's any nicknames you want in this then just say! I can't decide who I catch and I'm quite a bit ahead in terms of game played but there's still chance for names to get picked =]

Will update soon as well, with no internet today I got quite a lot done for this ^^;

Chapter 3: Dance With My Father

- Rested at Oldale Town, chapter begins in Route 103

I had an overwhelming eagerness to go out there and battle the trainers who had gathered just outside of Petalburg City. A few of them were showing each other what Pokémon they had caught and others were showing off this technology kit they had; it was one that I didn't really recognise. I decided to let Alain rest in the PC box, leaving me with Oscar and Jay to battle the trainers.

A first trainer scouted me out and decided to battle me with a Zigzagoon; Oscar made light work of him. Impressed by my abilities, he said I should try a few of the other trainers. This allowed my Pokémon to get valuable experience in comparison with encounters with wild opposition. Jay in particular thrived; with his newly learned Absorb attack it seemed to relish the chance of showcasing its abilities. After about five or six trainer battles, I had managed to come out of them all unscathed with my party looking tested but not overly troubled.

Above the spot where most of the trainers had gathered were some berry patches, I managed to pick some Pecha and Oran berries and even planted my own; unfortunately I didn't have anything to help them grow. I remember Mum teaching me about different berries when we lived wih Dad; she used to spend a lot of time in the garden growing many types while he was out working and I was at PokéSchool in Rustboro City. I knew that if I looked hard enough I could find a multitude of berries and if I found a way to grow them I could bring a collection when I inevitably returned home.

It was time to enter Petalburg; after the last battle I decided to sprint as quickly as possible to get into the city. The place itself was very quiet, I was able to get in, heal my Pokémon and head towards the gym in minutes. Most of the other aspiring trainers had either already headed out on their journeys or were outside the city training in preparation for adventure. I wasted no time at all in entering the Gym to speak with Dad.

“What a pleasant surprise! It's great to see you here!” He beamed proudly as I closed the doors behind me. I ran up to him and hugged him as if I hadn't seen him for years.

“I've got some Pokémon now, I'm ready t...”

“Oh, and you must be Wally!”

A rather frail and sickly looking person entered the gym. I began to realise who the trainer was; his name was Wally, he was in the same class in PokéSchool in Rustboro as me, although he was often ill and did the work from home. When he was in class his shy demeanor left him to somewhat struggle.

“I'm here for the extra-curriculur lesson on Pokémon catching,” He muttered nervously. Having dropped out of school to move to Littleroot, I didn't get the opportunity to get this extra lesson; it was to help students get a grasp on how to catch Pokémon. Mum thought that moving to Littleroot would allow me to learn from Birch and get the best final bits of knowledge.

“Yes, of course. Your timing couldn't be any better actually; this is my son, GL. He's going to help you. I'm not really the biggest fan of books, I think students learn better through activity. Here is a Pokémon and some Pokéballs, with the help of GL, you are going to catch a wild Pokémon. You have caught a Pokémon before, right son?” Dad explained with an inquisitive gaze at me.

“Yeah, but...”

“Fantastic! Your best bet is probably the patch of grass just outside of here in Route 102! I'm looking forward to the result!” He interrupted, chuckling to himself. Wally and I sighed, neither getting what we expected. We both left the gym and began to make our way to the aforementioned area.

“So, your name is Wally, right? I think we were in the same class in school,” I said, trying to get a conversation started.

“Yeah, I remember you, you were one of the better students, yet you left...” He responded reluctantly. I sighed once more.

“I moved; my Mum and Dad decided to split up. Mum thought it was of best interest to finish my education under Professor Birch in Littleroot...”

“Oh, I'm sorry to hear!” Wally interrupted, feeling like he had caused offence. I looked at him and saw the nervous look in his eyes.

“It's fine, I kind of saw it coming... look, we're here!” I remarked, seeing a bunch of wild Pokémon. After a second of relief, Wally began to feel tense.

“What do I do? What do I do?” He asked repeatedly, I began to chuckle.

“Stay calm, you've got this. There's quite a lot of Pokémon here, pick out one you like the look of best. Then, use the Pokémon you've got from my Dad to weaken it before throwing a Pokéball at it. You're the one in control, you should be able to do this!” I instructed enthusiastically. Wally nodded before scouting out a wild Pokémon. A different looking Pokémon; one I hadn't seen in this area before, caused him to raise an eyebrow.

“Okay, remember everything from school, you know what to do..” He whispered to himself in an attempt to motivate himself. I stepped out of the way and began to watch, seeing his confidence grow and grow as the process went on. A minute had passed before the job was completed.

“Yes! I caught it!” He shouted ecstatically, leaping in celebration. I couldn't help but be happy for him; seeing his nervous disposition change to one of relief and energy caused me to clap proudly.

“We better get back, you did great Wally,” I smiled, causing a brief nod in response. We strolled back without hesitation, eager to show the result of our task.

“Maybe I won't make such a bad trainer after all,” Wally chirped for mental reinforcement.

“You'll be fine. I mean, we all mistakes so don't let it get you down. I remember once in school I felt like an idiot because I thought Dragonite could learn Barrier...” I chuckled, trying to retain his new found confidence. He laughed as we reentered the gym.

“I see some smiles, I guess you caught a Pokémon then?” Dad asked sharply.

“I managed to catch a Ralts, here,” Wally exclaimed as he began to pass everything back to Dad.

“Oh no, you keep that. Look at it as a symbol of your achievements, plus a Ralts suits you a lot” Dad interrupted as Wally grabbed the last Pokéball.

“Really? I'm going to show this to my relatives in Verdanturf then! Thank you... and thank you GL. I hope to battle you one day,” He shouted excitedly as he left the gym.

“Now then, I think it's time...”

“Yes it's time you moved onto Rustboro City. It's where all the aspiring trainers first begin their collection for Gym Badges. I'll only battle you when you're ready GL,” Dad interrupted immediately.

“But...”

“But nothing. You've still got plenty of things to learn before you're ready. Now go, I've got work to do.”

I left the gym, disappointed by Dad's reaction. I was sure this would have been the start in rebuilding the family...

Chapter 4: Woods

Despite the disappointment in the instructions from my Dad, I decided to follow them in the hope of finally getting worthwile time with him. I healed up, bought more Pokéballs and moved onto Route 104. Just before I left Petalburg City a man ran past me; he mentioned something about looking for the best trainers.

There were a few trainers eager for battles and some who gave me some valuable advice. I managed to catch a Wingull which I lovingly named Joey. I also found a small house which was empty, it looks like whoever lived there was either extremely welcoming or completely fearless. Luckily for them I wasn't, and still aren't I'd like to add, the type to steal.

Just a little north stood Petalburg Woods, famous for its Bug type Pokémon and, in terms of the family, the place where Dad first caught a Slakoth. I managed to catch a Shroomish, it looked extremely troublesome; the type to cause anything problems, so I named it Bully. I got a lot of training completed here too, both against trainers and wild Pokemon. It didn't take long for Jay to evolve into a Lombre and, not soon after, Oscar to become a Combusken.

As I proceeded through the woods I noticed a man looking somewhat troubled, as I made my way towards him I noticed another figure following him. I moved in closer, intrigued by the situation ahead of me.

“Can I help you with anything?” I asked, immediately causing the man to act somewhat suspiciously.

“I don't suppose you know if there are any Shroomish around here? Oh no!” He asked before responding to the figure getting closer. He ran behind me, almost as if I was his shield.

“Hand over the goods... and don't make me go through this kid to get it. Being a member of Team Aqua means I'll do anything to get what I want!”

I recognised the name 'Team Aqua'; the news often reported them as a group of thugs who would steal for the sake of water domination.

“I'm not letting you steal from him. Leave or else...” I stated calmly. The Team Aqua member looked at me surprisedly.

“Fine then kid, we'll play it my way. Poochyena, go get him!”

I slyly smiled as Oscar, now boasting a powerful Double Kick attack in its arsenal, dispatched the Poochyena with ease. The Aqua grunt back away slowly, shaking his head before running off.

“Thank you so much! Here, take this Great Ball as a thank you! Now I'm going to head back to Devon Corp. in Rustboro!” The man gleefully yelled before running off. The rest of the woods were quiet in comparison, a few more battles took place before I moved on.

Outside of Petalburg Woods stood a small berry and flower shop; one that my parents always used to go to. For nostalgia's sake, I entered to see what they had.

“Oh my! GL you have grown so much!”

The owner ran up to me and hugged me, leaving me surprised that they even remembered me.

“I hope you're okay, we heard about your parents splitting up... tell your Mum to come visit us,” she stated as she let go of me.

“I probably won't see her for a while, I'm on my Pokémon journey,” I reluctantly responded.

“Oh... well take this instead. Maybe you could give her this as a present when you do go back.”

She passed me a Wailmer Pail, something I could use to help berries grow in the ground.

“I will do, I'll give her the berries I can grow with it. She'd like that,” I said with a smile on my face, before waving goodbye. As I placed it in my bag, I began to think about how Dad was getting the blame again, and how I too blamed him. I sighed as I walked onwards to Rustboro City.

A bit of a short one, sorry guys ^^;

Chapter 5: I Wanna Rock

I entered Rustboro City and, after healing my Pokémon, wasted no time in entering the Pokémon School. The memories began to flow back as I stood at the back, watching the aspiring youth learn the basics of Pokémon.

“It's great, isn't it? Seeing the future of today at the very beginning of their journey,” The man next to me said. I realised it was the man who ran past me in Petalburg.

“It is. In a few years time they will be leaving their homes and get out there into the open world,” I replied swiftly. The man looked up and down at me, almost creating an opinion of me from that.

“The name's Scott.  I presume you're going to challenge Roxanne?” Scott asked, revealing himself in the process.

“Yeah I am, my name's GL by the way.”

He laughed to himself as he began to leave the room.

“I'll keep my eye on you. Don't forget to visit the Cut Master once you're done,” he smiled.

I decided to follow suit and leave the room. I gave my team a quick pep talk before entering the Gym. A man in a green suit strolled to me and briefed me on the leader, making my task somewhat easier. I quickly dispatched of the trainers inside and rested ahead of the challenge against Roxanne.

“So, you're my challenger for today? Let's see how much you've learned from school then!”

Oscar made light work of her Geodudes, leaving just a Nosepass. A few Double Kicks later and the match was over. I had received my first badge; the Stone Badge.

I left the building quickly before seeing a man run out of the large Devon Corporation building. I sprinted up to find out what was going on.

“Oh, it's you again! I need your help! They've stolen the package again! They've gone towards Rusturf Tunnel!” He shouted desperately. I nodded sharply before running through to Route 116. On my way to the tunnel I saw an older gentleman pace forwards and backwards.

“Excuse me sir, is there anything wrong?” I asked politely.

“Yes! A thug stole my beloved Peeko!” He sharply responded, pointing in the direction of Rusturf Tunnel.

“Don't worry, I'll get him back for you,” I smiled, quickly entering the tunnel.

Chapter 6: Please Mr. Postman

The Team Aqua grunt grimaced as he saw me from a distance and began to back away slowly before crashing into a pair of rocks. He charged into them in the hope of destroying them, fortunately his attempts were futile. I smiled as I strolled up to him.

“Hand everything over!” I barked, causing him to sigh in defeat.

“My boss is gonna kill me...” He muttered before sprinting out of the tunnel.

I managed to court the Wingull back to his owner who was very grateful for it. Entering Rustboro once again, I gave the package back to the man in the suit, in return he gave me another Great Ball. I tried to walk away to focus on other matters.

“Actually, before you leave, can you come with me please?” He asked sharply. I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his question. “Don't worry, it'll be purely business.”

He took me inside Devon Corp. and led me to the boardroom to meet with the president, Mr. Stone. He instructed me to sit down opposite him; with a glass of whiskey in hand, he began to speak.

“Thank you for your help, you've done something very important for us. This is why I have a proposition for you, the package you keep on recovering for me needs to be taken to Captain Stern in Slateport City and it seems I can't just leave this with any employee with Team Aqua causing mayhem and considering your track record in these situations I believe you can be trusted!” He requested with a sharp stare in his eyes. “Another thing too. En route, I need this delivering to Steven, I believe he's in Dewford so you'd be doing me a huge, personal favour! So, will you?”

“I do...”

“Brilliant!”

He interrupted me before I could even get into my sentence, I didn't know how to get over to these places let alone do errands for other people.

“Of course, I won't let you do this without reward; on behalf of the company I will be giving you usage of one of our most popular inventions, the PokéNav and you will be allowed to keep it after you're done! I already got one of our employees to sort out an arrangement with the local Cut Master so here's HM01 too,” He smiled as he passed a box full of items, including what needed to be delivered, over to me. I nervously smiled before leaving the room.

As I walked outside of the building May caught me by surprise; sprinting towards me with a smile on her face.

“Talk of the town is saying that you helped stop Team Aqua GL! Must have taken some good battling skills to do that!” She shouted in a jovial manner.

“Yeah, I guess you can say I've gotten better,” I laughed in response.

“Good, because we're going to have a battle, whether you like it or not!”

The battle between us went on for a while, her Torkoal especially being somewhat problematic. Luckily, Jay managed to pull through and defeat all of her Pokémon. She frowned dramatically, almost as if she didn't expect such an improvement.

“Wow, you've gotten better so quickly... so I presume you're going to take the Gym Challenge?” She questioned post-match.

“Hopefully, I don't even know where to go next though, especially with Rusturf Tunnel still being blocked and Dad, well, he won't battle me yet...” I muttered, almost hoping she'd give me a hint in where to go.

“Well, rumour has it the old man you helped happened to be an old sea captain, maybe you should ask him if he could take you to Dewford? There's a Gym there after all!”

“Oh right, I will ask him then. I've got to go to Dewford any way,” I smiled graciously. May jumped in shock.

“Why... are you working for Devon Corp. now?” She asked inquisitively. I briefly explained the whole story to her.

“Oh... well that sounds like fun! You'll have more of a reason to go out there and explore! Don't worry, I'll be around in places too, I said I'd help my Dad with some PokéDex things too,” May responded comfortingly. I nervously laughed in agreement.

“You might as well register me on your new PokéNav too in case we need to help each other,” She added almost cautiously.

“Oh yeah, that's a good idea!”

We traded contact details and decided to take our separate ways. On the way to Mr. Briney's cottage I added some more numbers into my PokéNav, a few of them showed interest in battling each other again in the future. After this, I went to Mr. Briney's house, again seeing the door open. I pushed it open slightly to see it not empty this time; instead he was chasing his beloved Peeko around the house.

“Excuse me sir, but could you please take me to Dewford?” I asked reluctantly. He stopped in his tracks before strolling to me.

“Oh, you're the lad from before, of course I can. Get in the boat, we'll join you in a few minutes,” he smiled in response. I stepped onto the boat and sighed before my PokéNav began to ring from an unknown number...

Looking forward to seeing more of this, and glad everyone survived the brutal May battle. So unfair that she gets a Torkoal if you choose Torchic.

Also, this one seemed a bit rushed, so maybe try to make the next one a bit more fleshed out at the important bits? Makes for a more fun read, especially since I know you're good at writing battle scenes. :3

Yeah it kinda is; I got about excited about plans I've got later on so I kinda rushed, my bad.
This one has more battling though (and in the future I've got some big battle scenes planned so yeah, whilst I've got my core stuff things will get expanded, especially when key characters come in)

Chapter 7: Fight For Your Right

Hesitantly, I answered the call on the PokéNav.

“We're watching you. Don't think you can get away from meddling in our business.”

There was no answer after that. The voice was raspy but aggressive; immediately I presumed it had come from someone in Team Aqua. I sighed heavily, knowing full well that there would be more trouble along the way.

“You alright lad? We're ready to go now,” Mr. Briney interrupted. I swiftly nodded, trying to hide the call I'd just received. He walked to the front of the boat, shaking his head before setting sail.

On the journey Roxanne, who had received the number from Mr. Stone, and Dad, who subsequently got it from Roxanne, rang me for future contact; the latter showed a hint of pride after hearing of my win, even if he remained unenthusiastic for family matters. I decided to rest over the journey; after all it had been an eventful day.

“Wake up! We're here!”

I rubbed my eyes gently as I began to exit my slumber, slowly opening my eyes to see Dewford Town in front of me.

“Peeko and I are going to enjoy a light spot of fishing. Care to join us for a while? You look like you need a break,” Mr. Briney asked, holding out what looked to be an old and worn fishing rod.

“That's a good idea, thanks,” I stated, taking the rod from his hand.

We sat down at the edge of the island, rods in the sea, discussing the future. It almost felt like I had a father again. Unfortunately, the fishing did not go too well, all that I managed to get on my lure was a Magikarp which I decided to call Poseidon. At this stage it would not be useful though, realising this, I played it into the box in my PC with the other Pokémon I had caught. At this point I walked around town, trying to find out the whereabouts of Steven; a local resident told me that he had gone inside Granite Cave. I tried to look inside but the depths were so dark it would require a light to make any sort of progress through it possible.

At this point, I decided to challenge the Gym in Dewford. The trainers did not cause too much of a problem and, after healing my Pokémon some more, I challenged Brawly to a match. I was aware of his offensive style of battling after speaking to the man in the green suit and gave an Oran Berry for Oscar to hold onto in case of emergency.

The battle itself started slowly as his Machop used Bulk Up and Oscar began by using Focus Energy. After this, Oscar began to use a barrage of kicks onto the Machop, causing it to faint relatively quickly, despite it being able to get some offense in through the form of Karate Chop. Meditite was next, due to its part Psychic type I knew I couldn't rush in with another Double Kick. I instructed Oscar to Peck at it, finishing it with just two hits. This left only his Makuhita who seemed a lot stronger than the rest. It immediately used Bulk Up which allowed it to soak up the damage extremely well. It looked like the battle was still in my favour until both Pokémon began to pant and ate their respective berries; Makuhita had consumed a much bigger and revitalising Sitrus Berry which seemed to give it a new lease of life. After taking another hit well, it used a powerful Vital Throw which caused Oscar to pant heavily; he was struggling to the point in which any form of contact would cause it to faint.

I knew I had to take a risk, for the most part Oscar could cope better than Jay with physical attacks so throwing Jay in there against a bulked up Makuhita would have been a huge risk with a small chance of a pay off. I bit my lip, knowing that any slip here could put a premature end to my potential Gym Challenge. I looked at Oscar who stared back at me before he nodded and switched his attention back onto the Makuhita which had almost developed a wry smile on its face. There seemed to be a small fire in Oscar's eyes, as if he was ready to prove himself in a clutch situation. I looked at the ground, sighed slowly, before instructing one more move.

“Double Kick Oscar! Put everything you've got into it!”

Oscar ran up to the Makuhita and almost analysed it before leaping and unleashing a kick; it had managed to use its focus to pinpoint where exactly the weakspot was and made contact in the right area, causing a heavy wince after the first kick before the faint after the second. The match had been won; I wiped the sweat off of my brow and shook Brawly's hand. We exchanged PokéNav details and he advised me about the HM Flash; a hiker within the cave gave me the HM and after teaching it to a Shroomish I had caught previously, I made my way through the cave.

The cave itself was dark, damp but shiny due to the collection of rocks scattered around. A number of Geodudes helped shaped some of the walls too; without realising, I touched one; however I did manage to catch it to add to my PokéDex. I continued on, trying not to disrupt any more of the wild Pokémon. It didn't take me long to find my way to what seemed to be a more beautiful section; many more rare stones were reflecting beautifully alongside a small pool of water. The Pokémon here seemed tranquil and at ease with their environment. In the corner of the room was a man, crouched, studying a selection of the rocks.

“Excuse me, but you don't happen to be Steven do you?”

Chapter 8: Downeaster Alexa

The man rose from his position and turned to face me, his silver hair glistened like some of the stones in the cave. He took a few steps towards me and looked straight into my eyes.

“You're Norman's son aren't you? It's a pleasure to meet you, I am indeed Steven,” He smiled assuringly. I nodded before quickly reaching into my bag.

“Mr. Stone asked me to give you this,” I respondedly quickly. He began to read it, slowly looking more disappointed as he progressed through each sentence.

“Thank you. I didn't expect to receive news like this so soon. I think we'll meet each other again soon, so let's trade PokéNav information,” Steven added, almost braving a false smile. Intrigued, I looked at him in a perplexed manner.

“Oh, it's nothing to worry about. There's more pressing matters I need to attend to right now. Don't be afraid to contact me if you need help with anything, I know trouble's going to pick up soon,” he explained before departing the cave. I paused and later scratched my head, confused as to what had actually transpired.

After leaving the cave and resting at the Pokécenter, Mr. Briney and I headed for Slateport. The journey did not take too long, the trainers gathered across the route had moved out of the way for a safe path. The sun shined beautiful onto the lazy waves, creating a calm and beautiful atmosphere. It had become the most enjoyable part of the adventure so far; the numerous Wingulls and Pelippers flying around seemed to have the same feeling. As we reached the port I wished we were still travelling, mainly due to knowing that I would not be able to get many more moments to appreciate the landscape around me.

“This is where we have to depart lad, it's been a pleasure though. Hope to see you again one day,” Mr. Briney chirped; chuckling to myself, I shook his hand. It seemed like he had become a bit of a softy in his old age.

On the beach outside of Slateport, a few trainers were queueing outside of what was called “Seashore House”; a place for those to test themselves in the eyes of the owner. Due to being always up for a challenge, I followed suit and entered, managing to defeat the other competitors with relative ease. The owner was impressived enough to give me a six pack of Soda Pop; one of the local sailors in particular seemed disappointed, I presume due to the fact that if I was of age it would have been a pack of alcoholic beverages given as a token of success.

Slateport City itself was beautiful; the markets were bustling with everyone taking in the naval atmosphere. A number of people had gathered inside the Pokémon Fan Club; upon entering I was bombarded by a television reporter who enquired about my relationship with Oscar. She seemed impressed by my answers and how I seemed a natural in front of the spotlight. Oscar on the other hand seemed to shy away from the cameras. Chuckling to myself, I returned him to his Pokéball and left the building.

Staring across to the other side of the city, I noticed a gathering of Team Aqua members rush into the Oceanic Museum; sensing trouble I decided to sprint in after them. The entrance fee was only a measly (http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/8/8c/Pok%C3%A9monDollar.png)50; having paid I approached the villainous group.

“It's you... you're here again. Blast!”

The member I dealt with in Rustboro City approached me with a grimace of disappointment. He looked deeply at me, almost trying to faze me out. Due to not getting the intended reaction, he shook his head before walking out of the building. I raced up the stairs to warn the owner of the museum.

“Excuse me sir, but you've got Team Aqua downstairs and they're not going to be here for a family day out!” I warned loudly, making sure I got his attention.

“Oh, well I presume they will be here about the Devon Goods I'm expecting.”

“So you're Captain Stern! Take this and stay behind me!” I ordered as a grabbed the package of my bag and handed it over swiftly. A few Aqua grunts sprinted up the stairs, Pokéballs on deck, ready to ambush. A wry smile grew on my face, eager to save the day.

“Jay, use Absorb! Oscar, use Double Kick!”

The pair began to plough through the numerous Poochyenas and Carvahnas they had tried to unleash on Sterm, none of them able to break through the power of my Pokémon, despite the blind, aggressive approach from the group. They began to slowly retreat, knowing that they were not going to break through the defence.

“At ease men. This isn't worth this much trouble!”

Thinking for a second, I began to realise that I recognised the voice; it was the one from the anonymous call on the PokéNav. The same sharpness was apparently as well as what seemed to be a deep aggression to it.

“You're not getting the goods!” I barked protectively.

“Wait, you're the one who stopped us before?! You?! You're just a kid! I thought it'd be a member of that Team Magma scum! I don't know whether to be ecstatic or upset!” He scoffed. I tried to response before he grabbed me sharply.

“Look kid, you're out of your depth here. You don't understand how important it is for us to complete our mission. You can take your little win here and your little win before and you can keep them locked up in that naïve memory bank of yours. Leave it at that. You don't want to get crushed. You got away with this one too Stern!” He explained aggressively before letting go of me. Glaring almost into my soul for a few seconds, he turned around and exited the building with his cohort of minions following him.

“Are you okay?” Stern asked hesitantly.

“Yeah, I think I'm going to go now...”

Chapter 9: Handlebars

Having left the museum, Scott bombarded me with questions about what had happened. I tried to escape him but his resilience was astounding. I eventually added him in my PokéNav after he confirmed that he was interested in 'scouting' me. Afterwards, he took me to the City's Battle Tent, suggesting I should 'test myself' with it. I obliged and took part in a few battles with some of the house Pokémon provided; after winning each of them, I was given a Full Heal as a prize. Impressed, Scott congratulated me before heading off to find more potential trainers.

Moving on towards Route 110, I managed to catch a Gulpin before heading into what was called 'Trick House'. Upon entering, the owner seemed to disappear and hide underneath a table, I think he may have been a kid in spirit bless him. After speaking with him, he showed me through to the back where he had developed a room with 'trials', unfortunately they were too easy. He told me to return later when he had created tougher ones.

Onwards through the Route, I managed to bump into May, who was researching Pokémon for Professor Birch. We decided to have another rematch; she seemed intent on making sure I had been training properly. Again, I was left disappointed to find the match so one sided. She gave me an Itemfinder after the match, before riding off on her bicycle; a hint of jealousy grew, I would have much preferred one of those to an Itemfinder. She also had the cheek to tell me to train harder, despite me winning so comfortably. A few seconds passed before Professor Birch found me.

“Oh, hello GL! It's a pleasure to see you,” He smiled, shaking my hand firmly.

“Is May not here with you?” He asked swiftly with a confused look on his face.

“No, she left just before you got here.”

“Oh, right. I expected her to stick around for a bit. Anyway, it meant be easier if it was just me talking to you about this. I don't think May's mature enough to properly understand all of this...”

The tone in Birch's voice was disheartening; he almost sounded distraught with what he was going to divulge into.

“Word is spreading about your involvement with Team Aqua; some are calling it heroics and some think you're working under Team Magma. Now, I know you're not working for them, it's just easy for the media to paint the picture; a teen on his adventure after his parents splitting up, craving the attention of his father and constantly being disappointed... it's easy for them. You need to make sure you don't get too involved with all of this because it could turn ugly for everyone. People know you're an aspiring trainer so yoi've got some interest, next time you get a chance to speak to the cameras you need to clear up your stance on both teams,” Birch explained.

“All I wanted to do was help someone...” I sighed in response.

“I know, I know... I'm just worried. It makes me worried for May too since she seems to be interested in making sure you stay okay and I don't want her dragged into it.”

“I'll tell her to stay out of it next time I see her then.”

“Wait, 'stay out of it'? You're not going to stop getting involved?”

“The thing is, I can't just let Team Aqua do whatever it is they are planning. The same applies to Team Magma if I run into them too. I can't stop and pretend like nothing's happened. I met Archie and he seemed intent on realising his goal, I just can't let that happen. You've got to let me handle this.”

“... Fine. Don't do something out of your depth though. You're still a kid after all.”

I entered Mauville City about 10 minutes after my discussion with Professor Birch and immediately was greeted by a man plastered in 'Rydel' clothing.

“You must be GL? Correct?” The man asked softly. I smiled and nodded.

“Your father rang, he has a gift for you. My name is Rydel and I own the Bike Store; your father has bought you a bike! He heard that your mother had bought you some running shoes and felt like that wouldn't be as useful as a bicycle.”

The bike was the perfect size, it was red with 'RYDEL'  in bold white; it couldn't be missed. It seemed incredibly well made; durable but fast. I felt grateful for the fact that I had received a bike but at the same time, I almost felt like Dad was trying to outdo Mum rather than be completely helpful. However, I was not going to turn down an opportunity to utilise the bike; I decided to test it at the cycle path, before entering the guide said there was a challenge for cyclists to see how quickly they could ride. I gave it a go and managed a respectable 10.06 seconds. Afterwards, I rode around, talking to various people about how to look after the bike; I guess I was grateful after all.

The day was reaching a close so I rode back into Mauville and rested in the PokéCenter for the evening.

Another good chapter! I really do like the direction this is taking with GL getting caught up with the teams and such. My main concern is the lack of Pokemon captured so far, but you're still early in the adventure, I'm sure you'll get some more things soon. Can't wait to see the next Chapter! I wonder how you're gonna deal with Wattson...

Chapter 10: With A Little Help From My Friends

The sun beamed brightly through the window I was staying in, reflecting on the screen of my PokéNav and straight into the direction of my eyes. Stretching with my eyelids slammed shut, I rose from my sleeping position, spruced myself up and got dressed before heading out of the room. I collected my Pokémon from the nurse and headed out of the PokéCenter in a lackadaisacal manner. I stretched strongly once outside, letting the light shine down onto my covered chest.

“Please Uncle! Please let me challenge the Gym!” I heard in the distance, a somewhat familiar voice. I switched my attention to the right, seeing Wally with his Uncle. The two seemed to have an intense discussion, out of intrigue I made my way over them.

“Hey Wally, long time no see!” I smiled joyfully. The pair simultaneously switched their attention to me.

“Oh, it's good to see you GL! My Uncle doesn't think I'm ready to approach the Gym yet but I've been working really hard!” Wally joyfully responded, resulting in a sigh from his uncle.

“That's good to hear... why don't we test out your skills then? Whoever wins gets to face the Gym Leader first,” I asked with a sense of intrigue; I was desperate to find out how much he had improved.

“That's a great idea GL. This could be a good measuring stick for you Wally; if you win then you were right after all!” Wally's Uncle piped in before moving out of the way.

“Okay, here we go! Let's go Rara!” Wally exclaimed, releasing his Ralts into the battlefield. It stood firmly, matching Wally's intensity.

“This is a chance to test ourselves Jay!” I responded, allowing the Lombre to gain some valuable experience. “Strike it early with a Fury Swipes attack!”

“Quick, respond with Double Team!”

The Ralts began to separate into different copies, leaving Jay in a state of surprise. Trying to counter it, he began to swipe viciously at all the copies with no luck of catching the real one.

“Now, take advantage and use Confusion!” Wally ordered, resulting in his Ralts jumping away of the remaining copies and using its mind to control Jay, throwing it to the ground. The Lombre rose up and dusted itself off before awaiting the next instruction.

“Try an Absorb attack to weaken it!” I barked loudly in an attempt to shift the momentum. Jay latched itself onto the Ralts and began to sap some of the energy away from the opposition.

“Push it off with Confusion and follow it up with Double Team Rara!” Wally responded; the Ralts focused its energy to forcing Jay to move away before surrounding it with more copies.

“Let's finish this Jay. Use Nature Power!” I ordered; nodding, the Lombre stood and focused before using the surroundings to create a barrage of stars which hit all of the copies of Ralts, including the legitimate one. The blinding shine of the stars disappeared and left the Pokémon on the floor, unable to continue.

“What a great match! It's a shame you didn't win Wally,” Wally's Uncle stated, walking over to support his nephew.

“Yeah, but this match was exactly what I needed. If I went into the Gym I would have got the same treatment. Thanks a lot GL,” Wally responded, satisfied with his endeavours.

“I think we should head back to Verdanturf Wally, why don't you join us GL?”

“Sure,” I obliged, following the pair to their home.

The soft, relaxing air breezed through my hair as I entered Vendanturf Town. Everything felt so pure and tranquil; it matched the beauty of the deep blue ocean sea. I smiled to myself, taking it all in. It felt extremely homely; more homely than how actual home had been. The lucious green grass, the gentle breeze, the relaxing nature; it was everything you could want from a place.

“GL, this is our home, please come in and have a cup of tea,” Wally's uncle said, somewhat interrupting the mindset I had immediately developed, almost flustering me.

The house itself epitomised the town, it was absolutely lovely and homely with the atmosphere created by the family being very welcoming. It was a very enjoyable situation to be in, it almost felt like royalty.

“GL, can I have a word with you please?”

Wally's Uncle took me over to the side with a somewhat gracious smile on his face.

“Thank you ever so much for helping Wally catch his first Pokémon. I've never seen him so happy, it's a joy to behold,” He stated softly.

“Oh, it was nothing. I'm just glad to see him looking so healthy. Moving to this place must have down wonders for him.”

“It really did. Again, I'm ever so grateful. However, I was impressed with your battling skills, and, I'm expecting you to beat Mauville's Gym. This leads to what I'd like... what I'd love if you could do for me. Funnily enough, it's now my daughter who isn't quite right. Unfortunately, the digging of Rusturf Tunnel has been postponed due to rebellious interference which means that she has to wait even longer to be with her boyfriend. Wally seems to think that the rocks can be broken with Rock Smash and I agree; however, none of us can utilise this HM right now. I was wondering whether you could do this for me, no, for us in fact. I would be eternally grateful,” He explained, almost pleading. I began to think back to the scenario with Team Aqua and almost began to blame myself for it.

“Of course, I'll try and get that done as soon as possible!” I obliged before being given the HM.

“Thank you ever so much. You will always be welcome in our home for this; for everything really,” Wally's Uncle exclaimed as he grabbed me and brought me in for a tight but surprising hug. I chuckled before moving towards the exit.

“Oh, wait up GL!” Wally shouted, noticing I was heading out.

“I'd just like to say thanks for inspiring me, not just today, or when you helped me, but for the future. You're what I hope to achieve... no, you're what I hope to surpass. One day, I'm going to beat all the Gym Leaders, and I'm going to face you again, and maybe, just maybe, I'll beat you. Don't even call it a challenge, call it a guarantee!” He explained with a rejuvinated feeling of confidence, sharply staring into my eyes.

“I'll be really looking forward to that,” I smiled, almost proudly, before shaking his hand firmly, trying to match his intensity. A few seconds passed before we let go and I moved my way towards the exit of the house and, a few minutes later, the town. As I was leaving I stopped in my tracks and took one large inhalation, not just taking in the cleanliness of the air, but the homely feel, to act as an added push. It was weird, I never thought something so pure would make me feel so emotional.

Nice chapter as always. I liked the way you expanded on the Wally plot point. It's a small thing in-game that you turned into something a bit bigger, and that's pretty cool.

Looking forward to the next one!

Yeah I've got some ideas for Wally, there's a few things I want to incorporate into this tbh

Chapter 11: Electric Feel

After a quick recovery session at the PokéCenter I made my way towards Mauville Gym. Inside the Gym there were plenty of switches and electrical doors, making the type quite clear. In preparation, I gave Oscar a Cheri Berry to hold on to due to the likeliness of paralyzation. The trainers inside were no match and, after a few hiccups with the switches, I made my way to Wattson.

“Ho ho, if it isn't Norman's kid! It only feels like yesterday when he challenged me and now you're all grown up!” Wattson chuckled as he slowly stroked his beard. I too let out a small yet nervous laugh. “Alright, shall we get on with this?” He asked. Nodding in response, I put Oscar into the fray whilst Wattson brought out Voltorb.

“Oscar, begin the match with Bulk Up!” I ordered, thinking back to the match with Brawly and how much of a difference that made. Oscar began to tense up, increasing in size.

“Use Rollout! Move around as quickly as you can!” Wattson yelled, resulting in his Voltorb rotating forwards before pushing off the ground, moving at a surprising rate. It began to zip around in multiple directions before focusing on Oscar, trying to knock it off balance. The lack of speed from the Combusken made it unable to keep up with it.

“Wait for the right moment Oscar and it with Double Kick!” I responded, trying to turn the move against the Voltorb. It began to increase its velocity before blasting towards Oscar who swung its leg at the last possible second; added strength caused its kick to reverse the spin and slam the Voltorb into the wall, knocking it out. However, the contact caused a deep shock through the system, making the Combusken kneel. In the meantime, Wattson sent out a Magneton; a wry smile grew on his face.

“Oscar, eat the berry and hit it with an Ember!” Oscar obliged, tossing the berry into his mouth and, as he waited for full movement to restore, began to release a small fire ball at the Magneton who was left defenseless. Wattson's expression quickly changed to a serious stare.

“Impressive, now let's see how you deal with this. Go, Manectric!” He instructed as his Pokémon barked immediately in release. Oscar and his opponent stared ferociously at each other, creating a tense atmosphere. Both were ready to fight.

“Quick, use Double Kick!”

“Thunder Wave!”

As the Combusken sprinted towards the Manectric it released a small shock of electricity to cause paralyzation again. Oscar was still able to make contact, causing considerable damage due to the Bulk Up, but the shock prevented its legs from having a clean hit, allowing the Manectric to survive. It began to eat a Sitrus Berry, recovering to half strength.

“Try and hit it again Oscar!” I cried but to no avail. As soon as it moved its leg it broke down in pain. Any physical movements were rendered useless at this point.

“It can't move Manectric, hit it with Spark!” Wattson shouted as his Pokémon sprinted towards Oscar covered in shock waves, smashed a direct hit into its chest. Oscar was starting to feel the effects of the battle considerably, it was a sitting duck out there.

“If we can't move Oscar then fire Embers in all directions! Don't let it get out of this with a victory!” I yelled.

“Use our speed to our advantage Manectric, hit it with a Shock Wave!” Wattson ordered; the Manectric sat down and fired a bolt of electricity directly at Oscar as it prepared to release its attack. Remaining still, Combusken soaked up the hit and, with its remaining energy, fired a barrage of fire balls which seemed stronger than any before. Manectric couldn't escape, a few made contact and it fell to the ground, unable to continue.

“Great match, you interpretation of the situation is very impressive. You've got the same spark as your father after all. Congratulations,” Wattson admitted as I returned Oscar to its ball. After receiving the badge, I quickly healed before sprinting back to Verdanturf Town.

I decided to use the HM on Wanda who looked more than ready to smash through the rocks in Rusturf Tunnel. It began to pummel viciously at the blockage and within minutes the rocks were obliterated. A man sprinted from the other side and grabbed me.

“How did you!? It doesn't matter! Thank you ever so much! Take this HM, Strength! I don't need it any more now I've got my baby back!” He shouted with excitement, holding on to me tightly.

“I... I can't breathe...” I muttered as I tried to squerm out of his tight grasp. Apologetically, the man dropped me before sprinting into Verdanturf Town. Watching him, I could see Wally's Uncle smiling back at me in the distance. I waved before heading through to Route 116 and finally Rustboro City. The man who I protected from Team Aqua initially ran up to me.

“Oh, you're back! I can send you through to Mr. Stone if you'd like?” He asked politely. Before I got chance to answer, he began to walk off, expecting me to follow him.

“Before you go in, take this. It's the least I can do,” He smiled, passing me a Repeat Ball. I gratefully took it before entering Mr. Stone's office.

“Hello again sir, I've done both deliveries,” I calmly stated.

“So I've heard. Thank you very much. I heard about the troubles with Team Aqua so I've got another gift for you; it's an Exp. Share. This allows you to spread experience between the battler and another Pokémon in your team; perfect for those who are weaker. It's actually something Steven helped design...” Mr. Stone explained as he passed over another box.

“Thank you... if you don't mind me asking, why did I have to send the letter to Steven?” I enquired.

“Oh, it's just family business. He's my son, you see. Ahem, now I've got make a phone call. If there's any other business we can work on, I will ring you on the PokéNav. Thanks again,” Mr. Stone coughed before turning towards his phone. I nodded before leaving the room and eventually the building. The thought of family went through my mind and as I stood outside, I rang Dad in the hope of finally being given an opportunity. Unfortunately, there was no answer and instead, I headed back towards Rustboro Tunnel in an attempt to find another Gym in the meanwhile.

you don't realise how frustrating it was playing catching all these Pokémon I didn't like, I was seriously tempted to just grind with Wingull xD

Chapter 12: Video Killed The Radio Star

I had quickly made my way back to Mauville City and decided to venture north after looking at the map, noticing that Lavaridge Town had a Gym. A few trainers had gathered, I ploughed through them with relative ease. There was a house to the side in Route 111 belonging to the Winstrate family; a challenge was posed to beat all four of them in a row. Jay dispatched of all four, despite it being a large struggle. Whilst congratulating me (and giving me a Macho Brace as a reward) they put more of a focus to their son who was preparing for the Pokémon League. Feeling somewhat confident, I arrogantly claimed I would beat him too.

Moving onwards, I saw a pair from a television crew trying to interview various trainers; intrigued I strolled up to them.

“I don't suppose you'd be willing to do an interview?” The woman with the microphone asked, almost in a defeated tone.

“Of course. My name's GL,” I smiled in response. Upon hearing the name her eyes began to light up.

“Did you hear that Ty? This is the kid who's been causing Team Aqua trouble? Quick, start rolling the camera!” She whispered excitedly into the camera man's ear. She then fixed her attention back to me.

“So, you're GL? My name's Gabby. For the first part of this interview I think the best way to showcase your talent would be to have a Pokémon battle so we can help create a profile for you. Does that sound good?” She asked, eyes continuing to shine.

“That sounds fine,” I said, releasing my Pokémon in the process. Immediately, I instructed Jay to use Fake Out to deal with the Whismur and Oscar hit an Ember to defeat the Magnemite.

“... it's over already. Wow, you're the real deal!” The pair muttered simultaneously. I chuckled as I withdrew my Pokémon.

“What's next then?” I asked, smile beaming from my face.

“Okay, how would you describe your team?” Gabby questioned, notepad on hand.

“Incredible. Without my Pokémon I'm nothing, the credit belongs to them,” Gabby began to scribble furiously on the paper, nodding as she wrote.

“Now, what's your relationship with your father, the Petalburg City Gym Leader?”

“It's... hard to explain right now. I just use it as inspiration though...” I mumbled, not wanting to get too emotional over it.

“Right, and where do you see yourself in the next few years?”

“As the Hoenn Champion.”

Gabby dropped the pen in shock before looking deep into my eyes.

“Wow, you're ambitious. Don't you think that's somewhat unrealistic?” She queried, eyebrow raised.

“Not at all, I've got three badges already. I'm only getting stronger and my aim is to prove that we can be the best team in Hoenn. If I don't believe we can win then who else will?” I explained, causing Gabby to smile proudly.

“Great answer. Last question; rumour has it that you were involved in stopping Team Aqua at Slateport City? Is this true and, if so, are you involved at all with Team Magma?”

“I helped protect Captain Stern, yes. As for Team Magma, I have no association with them,” I stated firmly. Gabby sighed in response, signalling for the camera to stop rolling.

“So you're really not in Team Magma? It's just they've got a new kid in their ranks who's causing a lot of interest in the media. No one knows who he is, all we know is that he's very strong,” She whispered suspiciously, this time I raised an eyebrow.

“So that's what Professor Birch was on about... this is the first I've heard about this person specfically. Sorry I can't give you an exciting story,” I laughed.

“It's fine. We've got a great story regardless and at least it rules out one candidate. Let's film the conclusion and wrap this up, it'll definitely make television so you might want to check it out at some point.”

After the interview I carried on along the pass; the desert to the north was too harsh and unpassable so I redirected myself towards Mt. Chimney. On route I managed to catch a Numel before noticing a 'CLOSED' sign outside the cable cart, meaning I would not be able to go to Lavaridge Town yet. Still, I proceeded through the Fiery Path and battled some trainers outside. The volume of battles were taking its toll on Jay especially; he had accumulated wounds and a strong burn. Panicking, I knocked on the door of a nearby house; an older woman appeared from the other side.

“Excuse me, I don't suppose we could rest here? It's been a long day,” I asked frantically.

“Of course you can dear. Stay as long as you like.” She said in a welcoming tone. I left my Pokémon in her disposal as I lay down upstairs in the guest room.

Chapter 13: Ashtrap Wasp

After a few hours I was awoken by our host, shaking me as she pointed to the television.

“You're on the television!” She shouted excitedly as my eyes slowly opened. I rose my upper body up and looked at the television, surprised more than anything to see it so soon. As the interview went on, my interest in it decreased more and more, unlike the old woman who seemed delighted to be in the presence of me.

“So, you're a star! I would never have guessed that!” She exclaimed, causing me to nervously chuckle.

BREAKING NEWS. BREAKING NEWS. Team Magma have been spotted in and around Fallarbor Town. Please report any villainous activities you see.

I immediately jumped from my position and sprinted over to where my Pokéballs were.

“I'm sorry ma'am but I've got to see what's going on, thanks for the great hospitality!” I urgently shouted as I gathered all my belongings together.

“Are you sure you're fully rested?” She asked somewhat hesitantly.

“It'll be fine, I'm a star remember,” I cheekily smiled as I left the house. I ran into Route 113 as the soft, volcanic ash began to fall slowly onto and around me, they felt like small blanket drops that, once accumulated, almost comforted me. I stopped and caught a tiny clump in my head and looked into it before the wind blew it away. A teenager began to walk over to me.

“You can collect the ash you know, my boss can give you a Soot Sack to collect it. We're based in the building over there,” He instructed before heading back towards the building. Intrigued, I started to follow him and, after a few minutes, entered and met with the owner. He quickly threw a bag at me, catching me surprise.

“Collect enough of the stuff and I can make you a selection of items, free of charge,” He smiled as he revealed a selection of items he had made for display.

“That's impressive, I'll see what I can do when I get chance. By the way, if you see anyone from Team Magma around, give me a heads up,” I explained.

“Oh, you mean like the guy walking out there now?” The teenager said as he peered out of the window. I jumped over to his position and stood alongside him, staring outside to see the person he was referring to. I quickly forced the Soot Sack into my bag.

“I don't know when I'll collect enough ash, I've got to sort this out. Thanks though!” I yelled as I bolted out of the building and towards the figure. They were dressed in a modified version of the traditional Grunt outfit outlined in the news report.

“Stop right there! What are you doing here Magma?” I intrigued confidently. The person stopped in their tracks before turning to face me.

“I'm going to tell the boss to go forward with our plans. It's pretty standard stuff really,” he explained in a consistent tone, unfazed by my approach.

“Well then, tell your boss that your plans should stop now. Your villainous ways are over!” I barked, trying to get some kind of reaction from him; all he did was laugh to himself.

“This isn't funny! Let's go Jay!” I released the Lombre from its ball and it began to stretch following its small rest.

“You don't want to do this,” the Magma member muttered.

“I'm not letting you go!” I yelled as my eagerness began to take over from my rational thinking.

“I don't want to do this. You won't want to do this because you'll lose. You'll lose and it won't be pretty. Although... maybe losing would be a good thing for you,” he pondered as he looked sternly at Jay.

“I won't lose! I haven't lost a single match yet!”

“Fine. Have it your way,” he responded, causing me to smile sharply as if I'd won the mental battle. He threw a Pokéball to the ground, letting out a Pokémon I hadn't seen before; the ash began to land on it and blend in with its shining white fur until it shook it off. It looked into the eyes of Jay before turning back to its trainer, who simply nodded.

“Okay Jay, use Fake Out!” I ordered in an attempt to get the advantage. The Magma member stood still and watched as his Pokémon took the hit.

“If you carry on like this the match will be over instantly,” I cockily claimed.

“Prepare a Razor Wind. GL, you've got time whilst the move is being prepared. Give up now or face the consequences,” He ordered, almost as if he had been awoken from a deep slumber.

“How do you know my n...?”

“Time's ticking; give up now or face the consequences,” He interrupted, almost pleading with me to stop.

“I'll never give up; Jay, use Nature Power to gather the ashes to form an attack!” I ordered confidently. The Magma member sighed and looked down into the ground as he shook his head. Jay concentrated as the ashes seemed to move closer to him.

“End this!” he barked as his Pokémon obliged; it leapt into the air before swiping its sickle-shaped horn in the direction of Jay. A huge force dispersed from it and moved at an incredible rate; blowing all of the ash past the Lombre and catching it with a direct hit. Flying about ten metres back, Jay remained still, lying unconscious, unable to continue.

“Jay!! No!” I shrieked as I sprinted towards my fallen Pokémon.

“How many Pokémon do you have left?” The figure asked as he walked towards his Pokémon, stroking its fur.

“O... One...” I muttered as I grasped Oscar's Pokéball tightly, gritting my teeth in the process.

“Right. Take this and use it on it. Next time make sure your Pokémon are ready because if they're not ready then you aren't, no matter how confident you may be. Your Lombre was still in pain, it wasn't given a proper chance to recover,” he explained as he threw a Full Restore in my direction. I looked at it, thinking about what happened. As he returned his Pokémon to its Pokéball I realised who it was.

“You're the guy I'm getting confused for! How do you know who I am? Are you pretending to be me?” I asked frantically.

“Leave your Lombre with someone you trust. You won't want to be using it for battle any more. Train hard, the rest of Team Magma are going to steal the Meteorite in Meteor Falls tomorrow. There's no point intervening now, Cozmo won't believe you. Just come better prepared, it could get explosive,” He explained, turning away from me.

“You didn't answer my question...”

“I'm not pretending to be you, but I wish I was you. You've got it easy,” He muttered, moreso to himself, as he walked out of the ash and back towards Route 111. Still feeling unsatisifed, I sprinted after him but as soon as I turned the corner he had gone. I sighed before moving back through the ash; as it fell instead of a calming feeling it had been replaced by a weight of guilt pushing down on me.

Whilst the crossover was always planned I wasn't going to pull the trigger on it this soon but with how I messed up whilst playing Emerald I kinda worked around and placed it in here and in this way rather than what actually happened (Lombre got hit with a crit from a Koffing Sludge and died of poison... I kinda forgot poison beats grass...)

But yeah, to deal with this, the next chapter will be kinda filler unfortunately =/

Chapter 14: Afterlife

I rushed into Fallarbor Town and frantically gave Jay to the nurse, hoping she could work a miracle. Whilst Jay was somewhat healthy after her work, there seemed to be some lasting damage. I decided to use the PC in the PokéCenter to ring Wally's uncle, leaving him in their care after the wonders they did for Wally. At this point a woman approached me; her name was Lanette and it turned out that she was the creator of the PC system in Hoenn. She invited me to her house in Route 114, I obliged and we discussed various Pokémon things. We even went through my PC and she gave me tips on how to manage it better, as well as a nice Lotad doll for decorative and nostalgia purposes. Outside, I caught a Swablu and named it Fluffy.

At this point, I withdrew Poseidon, the Magikarp I caught in Dewford, due to remembering from PokéSchool how some initially weak Pokémon can grow into much stronger ones. Unfortunately, as soon as I released it from its ball it flopped all over the place, making it virtually useless at this stage. Both Oscar and Fluffy watched it struggle like a fish out of water and sighed simultaneously. As a resultance of its incompetence, I decided to attack the Exp. Share I received from Mr. Stone onto it whilst focusing on training the other two.

We spent the whole day training vigorously; even before Poseidon showed any signs of capability in battle Oscar grew into a Blaziken and looked razor sharp for battle. I took it slower with Fluffy, immediately thinking back to how easily Jay got decimated due to its natural frailties. Each battle I approached more strategically, not putting her in too much risk. The hours began to pass quickly but she was showing signs of development; her clouds looked firmer and she grew in size; most importantly she was looking more and more confident in battle. I allowed her to rest as Poseidon finally looked able to do something; he had began to focus his movements in a directed manner, tackling and causing damage to enemy Pokémon. Another hour or so passed before the time and effort began to pay off, to my amazement it evolved into a Gyarados.

From this point, training got a lot easier. Whilst it took time for Poseidon to get to the same stage as Oscar it was a relatively straight forward process. Encounter an enemy, unleash the power, experience gained. Poseidon really was beginning to represent his namesake well, at times seeming untouchable in battle. After her rest, Fluffy felt rejuvinated and began to work hard once more, finally evolving into an Altaria before the day was over.

Unfortunately, we had spent so much time training and strategizing that by the time we were done the PokéCenter in Fallarbor Town had closed and I did not feel it was worth travelling all the way back to Mauville City to risk the PokéCenter in there. Luckily, Lanette had allowed me to stay at hers after our previous conversation. I left my PokéBalls on this operating station she had created which allowed them to recover over nightwwhilst I took some time outside to reflect in my thoughts.

I sat down on the bridge and stared into the distance, seeing the dark water shine brilliantly with the stars and the moon creating a hopeful atmosphere. Even though we had worked so hard all day I still had the lingering thoughts dominate me. For the first time I had a feeling of nervousness about me as a Pokémon trainer. Usually I would be worried about family; worried that Mum and Dad would never get back together; those thoughts were still there, pushed into the background for the time being. The water almost began to sing as the weak waves sloshed together yet all I could hear was the impact from the Razor Wind on Jay. I sighed heavily before rising up from my position and began to walk into town and then into the volcanic ash.

The ash had accumulated thickly onto the ground as the lack of wind in the night allowed it to remain in position and whilst everything seemed so pure and untouched all I could see was the broken carcass of Jay and the shape it had created in the ash. I staggered to the spot where he had fallen and grabbed a pile of the ash before allowing it to slowly escape my hand. I couldn't shake the thought of possibly failing again and at this point there was nothing to distract me from the strong thoughts crippling my confidence. Could I stop Team Magma tomorrow? I sighed heavily before strolling back, head down, trying to remain thoughtless.

I did say to you I'd use it =P

and yeah, same. I was really hoping to get through all of this without losing any Pokémon =[
doing Nuzlocke makes it all the more painful when they do get defeated too ;;

Chapter 15: Man On The Moon

My PokéNav vibrated heavily on the bedside table, giving me a scare as I slowly opened my eyes. I picked the device up halfheartedly after only receiving a small amount of sleep.

“You've got an hour until we meet with Cozmo. If you want to make a change happen then make sure you're completely ready.” I paused for a second, concentrating in an attempt to work out the voice. My eyelids shot open fully as I realised it was the Team Magma member from yesterday.

“Why... why are you helping me?” I asked quickly as I leapt out of bed, attempting to get all of my things together.

“You know what you want to do... if you can do what you want to then you shouldn't be stopped.” The voice muttered before hanging up. I wasted no time in getting dressed and sprinted out of the door without giving myself a chance to properly thank Lanette. As I left the house I noticed a quirky looking professor stroll towards Meteor Falls; believing this to be Cozmo, mainly due to the rock he was holding tightly, I began to follow nonchelantly in the hope of looking unsuspicious.

Meteor Falls was beautiful, the stalagmites almost shaped together to create moon craters and was accompanied by the crashing sound of a waterfall in the distance. Water dripped from the stalactites onto the ground, helping to create a wet but wonderful collage of sounds. Holes in the cave allowed the sun to create almost a spotlight onto the area Cozmo was standing. I hid in a climbable area out of the way to monitor the situation; a Solrock noticed me and tried to pester, in an attempt to quieten it I managed to catch it. At one point I thought Cozmo noticed me, focusing his line of sight towards the area I was hiding; just as he seemed to slowly move towards it, Team Magma arrived.

“Ahh, Cozmo! I'm so happy to see you arrived!” The leader of the pack beamed as he reached to shake his hand.

“Where's Maxie? He was the one who wanted to speak to me?” Cozmo nervously asked as the members seemed to swarm around him; withholding the invitation to shake hands. All he got was an evil chuckle in response. Things went silent for a few seconds as Team Magma awaited Cozmo to make the next move, until a massive buzzing sound arose from around me. I realised immediately it was my PokéNav, looking at it, I saw that Wally was trying to ring me. Noticing that all of the people in the spotlight had now noticed me, I muttered something Mum would not appreciate me saying to myself before rejecting the call.

“It seems we have a spy. You lot, grab Cozmo and hold onto the Meteorite. Numel, use Magnitude to shake the kid out,” The Magma member ordered sharply as he released his Pokémon. The cave around me began to shake viciously, parts breaking off, which caused me to fall down onto their level. Whilst not overly injured, I was in more danger as I was quickly grabbed by the collar.

“Ah, so you're the kid who got involved with Team Aqua's plans. Maxie warned you might be around, looks like I might get to have some fun here...” He angrily whispered as he began to clench his spare fist tightly. I gulped loudly, fearing I was going to get hurt.

“Let him go Tabitha, we've got bigger things to worry about. Team Aqua have been sighted in the distance,” another Magma member interrupted.

“It seems it's your lucky day kid. Take the Meteorite and scram,” Tabitha spat as he threw me onto the ground. The flock of Team Magma members sprinted out of the cave, leaving both me and Cozmo shaken on the ground.

“Are you alright?” I asked Cozmo as I dusted myself off, trying to retain confidence.

“I'm alive at least. I don't know why I trusted those goons,” Cozmo replied in a defeated tone.

“Everyone knows you're a sucker for money Cozmo!” A raspy voice yelled from the opposite side of the cave. Fixing my attention over to there, I immediately recognised that it was Archie with a rabble of Aqua grunts.

“Looks like you being in our business could be a good thing for once kid. We need to get to Mt. Chimney to stop Team Magma before it's too late and we could use as much help as possible,” He explained as he came closer to us, still looking as angry as ever, despite the more welcoming approach. My PokéNav began to buzz strongly again; Archie nodded, allowing me to answer.

“Hey GL! I thought I'd let you know that I saw Team Magma take the cable cart up to Mt. Chimney since I know you like getting involved with that sort of thing!” Wally joyfully exclaimed. I sighed before responding.

“Yeah, I already know. Kinda found out the hard way actually. It's good to know you're here though, you're going to help us stop them,” I explained, almost biting at him.

“Wait... w-w-what?!” He asked; fear outlined in his crackled tone. Archie grabbed my PokéNav from me, grimacing at the device.

“Look, I don't know who you are, I don't care actually. If the kid trusts you, you're getting involved. Just wait by the cable car, we'll be there in minutes. If I find out you've ran away we will hunt you down and make your life a living hell so you might not want to disobey me!” He barked aggressively before throwing the PokéNav back at me after hanging up.

“You didn't have to be so ruthless with him...” I muttered as he started to walk away, causing him to stop.

“Your childlike etiquette will only get you so far. The world's a cruel mistress right now. If Maxie completes his plan with that Meteorite all that will remain is pure land mass. I can't let that happen. Just asking your friend to help wouldn't work, he'd feel out of his depth. I can't imagine him having the same blind confidence that you do,” Archie explained almost as violently.

“Yeah but...”

“But nothing. We've got work to do if you want to carry on being flavour of the month kid,” He interrupted before leaving the cave with his team closely following him. I looked back at Cozmo to see he still looked rattled.

“I'm sorry... I'll get the meteorite back for you... or at least try to...” I muttered, not particularly confidently, before sprinting after them all.

Liking the back and forth with the teams so far, great job! Emerald was so good for that, they really made both teams stand out and it gave the plot a sense of urgency, making you feel like you had to stop both teams. Really great job with the writing, looking forward to the next post. :)

Well luckily (or not?) this is the first bigger chapter since it's a pretty important part (I felt anyway) haha

Chapter 16: Battlefield

I felt so out of place as I walked alongside Team Aqua towards Mt. Chimney. It felt like I was being immediately judged by the people we passed by. Luckily, it did not take us too long to reach our destination; at the base I saw a timid looking Wally, almost shaking in fear. I looked at Archie who seemed to facepalm and his decision to bring him in.

“Hey Wally! I'm so sorry...” I awkwardly said as I ran up to him. Archie instructed his team to head up to the cable cart.

“They're not going to do anything to my family are they?!” Wally asked in a panic.

“No, not yet at least. We'll see you up there,” Archie snarled as he entered the cable cart. I sighed as I saw Wally start to freak out.

“It'll be fine. I didn't think he'd be such a tyrant about it. I think it was just a release of his built up anger towards Team Magma. Plus, if anything, he'll target mine first,” I stated reassuringly. It was Wally's turn to sigh, almost as a relief.

“So... what have I got to do?” Wally intrigued reluctantly.

“We've got to somehow get the Meteorite away from Maxie, who I think is Team Magma's leader. That means you might have to battle some Team Magma members, it won't be anything too hard. You've improved a lot so you've got a great chance to showcase your abilities here...”

“You're right! I've just got to go out there and do my best to help!” Wally interrupted with a smile on his face. I chuckled slightly before heading towards the cable cart. We both sat inside and waited as it slowly progressed upwards, with each passing second the ash began to first become visible before getthing thicker and thicker; when we reached the top it was almost blizzard like terrority as the ash blew all over the place. The cable door opened and Wally, after a large sigh, jumped out and stopped, witnessing a barrage of gang members fighting each other. Attacks were flying all over the place with various Pokémon yelping and shrieking in pain.

“This is terrible...” Wally muttered softly to himself, unable to understand the pure aggression on display.

“I know, but it's more of a reason for us to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again. Come on, let's go,” I said, trying to usher him onwards. He nodded hesitantly as we took a few steps, before seeing behind us a group of media reporters sprint from the next cable car. They almost seemed to have the same predatoral, animalistic approach as the criminals.

“Are you here to save the day again?” A woman asked as I tried to walk away; I realised it was Gabby from the interview. I looked at her, almost disgusted, before moving onwards. I saw Archie fighting off a number of Team Magma grunts with his Mightyena, almost relishing the opportunity.

“Looks like you're enjoying this too much. Care to have a real challenge?” A Magma member stated as he looked Archie dead in the eye. Bullishly, the Aqua Leader welcomed the opportunity.

“You'll regret this. Disaster, whenever you're ready,” He smiled as his Absol appeared behind him. He looked at me for a brief second before Archie did the same.

“What do you think you're doing?! Get on with it!” Archie yelled ferociously at us, shaking me from my stare.

“Right... I guess that's Maxie over there by that machine! Let's go!” I Instructed Wally as I began to run in that direction. I turned to Wally to make sure he was following until I was lifted from the ground.

“Where do you think you're going kid?”

Tabitha had grabbed onto me in the same way as before, hurting me once more. I tried to wriggle out of his grasp yet he was too strong physically.

“Let me go!” I shouted, flailing around to no avail. He laughed to himself heavily, grinning like a Cheshire Cat.

“Drop him. Rara, you ready?” Wally boldly stated from behind, staring sharply at Tabitha. Dropping me, he began to stroll towards my friend.

“So you think you're a tough guy eh?” Let's have it your way,” He sneered, releasing a Numel for battle. Wally's Ralts stood firm alongside its trainer before glowing brilliantly as it evolved into a Kirlia.

“Just move on GL! Don't worry about us!” Wally barked at me as I rose from the ground. I nodded before sprinting towards Maxie.

“So, it looks like you want to stop us. It's almost done, that's the problem for you. The Meteorite's in place, all that remains is for the configuration to be completed. I guess I've got time to deal with you personally until then, boy,” Maxie remarked as he slowly turned around from his machinery, somehow knowing that I was closing in on him.

“Why are you doing this?” I asked inquisitively, causing him to scoff loudly.

“Land is the cradle of all, it caused things of the past to live and grow effectively. With this meteorite I can harness that power and get this planet to position it needs to to thrive once more. I bet you've heard Archie ramble on about how the sea is all important but that's just a moronic mindset. Actually, I'm surprised you've sided with that cretin, from what I had heard you seemed much wiser than that,” Maxie explained, almost trying to get under my skin.

“I'm not siding with them, I'm just siding against you,” I laughed, releasing Poseidon from his ball.

“Very well. You could have been an interesting acquisition for Team Magma...”

Maxie unleashed his Camerupt who seemed ready for the battle. I sighed to myself, mind shrouded in self doubt. The Magma Leader picked up on it and began to laugh, tormenting me.

“No, I can't let you win. Poseidon, use Bite!” I yelled as I tried to shake off the doubts. Poseidon threw itself violently at the Camerupt, clenching his large fangs into its side, causing large damage.

“Drive it off Camerupt with Tackle,” Maxie instructed, remaining cool in the situation. His Camerupt began to sprint forwards, trying to shake it off but the strength in Poseidon's jaw was too much. With each step the Gyarados began to dig in harder, creating more and more pain. The Camerupt's eyes began to water in pain. Maxie grunted, realising his strategy was not working.

“Fine, singe it off with Ember,” he responded; a small fire ball left the Camerupt's mouth which caught the tail of Poseidon, causing small damage. Maxie ordered the attack again and again, eventually causing Poseidon to let go as the burn began to seep in. I began to think back to Jay and  how the burns damaged it to the point of no return. Shrieking in pain, Poisedon began to fling itself around to try and shake it off.

“I can't let this happen again... Poseidon, fire everything you've got with Dragon Rage!” I cried as my Gyarados let out a massively excruciating roar on the ears. Maxie shook his head as he saw Poisedon gather a huge amount of energy and firing a blast at and beyond the Camerupt, damaging the machinery behind. The Meteorite dropped to the ground before rolling out of the way.

“There's no point carrying this on. You've ruined our plans for now...” Maxie bitterly muttered as he returned his Pokémon and walked away. The rest of the Magma members continued to finish their battles before heading off, leaving Team Aqua, Wally and I as the sole figures in front of the cameras.

“Urgh, you can all go away now! Go, now!” Archie blasted at the media, causing to scurry off.

“Why are you so angry? We stopped them didn't we?” I asked loudly, puzzled by his disposition.

“We won the battle but look at my men. They all lost and look so defeated. Look at your friend here, he lost too. Even I lost... you only managed it by the skin of your teeth. Why would they just give up? It just doesn't make sense! They had us in the palm of their hand and walked away!” Archie ranted, frustrated to the point of punching a section of the mountain, creating a large hole in it.

“It's not a war Archie! There's more to this than that! You both need to stop with these false dreams because it's going to end up causing my harm than good!” I shouted back at him, trying to get into his mind.

“You don't get it. This is a goddamn war and people will get hurt. We've got to work so much harder to get what we want. All of the blood, sweat and tears will be worth it. The last time was a warning kid, this time it's a guarantee; if you get involved in our actions any further, you will get crushed. Same for your little pal over there too, or any other friends you have. Let's go men...” Archie yelled, amping up the viciousness. He directed his men back down the cable cart, distraught with the result.

“I think I'm going to go too GL...” Wally piped in nervously.

“Oh... sure. Thanks a lot Wally, you were a big help. Don't worry about anything else to do with this, I'll deal with it myself...”

“No, after today I know you'll need all the help you can get. Today was darker than I thought... it felt like a violation against Pokémon. I can't let that happen. I'll help in whatever way I can,” He interrupted before leaving the area. I stood alone and looked around for the Meteorite, knowing that Cozmo would want it back.

“I guess you're looking for this?”

I turned around to find a sole Magma Grunt holding the Meteorite; it looked as if parts had crumbled off of it.

“Take it. I doubt Maxie will want it, I certainly don't have a reason to keep it,” He said, throwing it in my direction. I caught it with ease and placed it into my bag.

“You did a good job today. I think if the battle had a true conclusion you would have beat Maxie,” he added assuringly.

“Thanks... I guess you beat Archie then, huh?” I enquired, eyebrow raised.

“Yeah. He's too aggressive, it made it easy to pick him off,” He responded, tone unchanged. It surprised me, I knew if I had beaten Archie I would have been delighted with myself.

“Can I just ask you something before you leave me with more questions than answers again?” I added, realising he was about to leave.

“Sure.”

“Why did you join Team Magma? I mean, you beat Archie, you pretty much told me what to do and ended up costing Maxie his goal, I just don't get it...?” The Magma grunt chuckled to himself.

“I guess I'm just trying to find out who I really am at this point. Not all of Team Magma are criminals, there are some good people in the team. Some of us just get recruited because we've got no other option; I think it's the same for some in Team Aqua too. None of us matter any way, when it's all said and done it'll come down to those with power in each team. Until there's no politics all I can do is just keep on working and making a living until I can break out. That's why you've got it easy, you can do whatever you want. Some of us don't get that luxury.”

There was a long pause as I tried to dissect the answer given to me. I still did not understand it and I think he realised that too as he sighed dispondently.

“Look, just keep on stopping both teams. You might even have to beat me along the way. Just, don't label us all as these villains who want to make the world our own. Maybe next time we meet things will make more sense...”

“At least tell me your name then?” I interrupted. Again, he responded with a chuckle.

“There isn't a single person in Team Magma who knows my name. They call me Blaze... I guess you can know. My name's Kai,” He smiled before heading down the pass, leaving me to ponder everything that had happened.
