[disc] What kind of RPs are you looking for?
« on: September 02, 2014, 18:58 »
Ok so, as we all know most of the boards here have been a lot less active than they used to be, RP included. So I put the question forward to you... what are you looking for?

Often it can be hard coming up for an idea for an RP anyway - what is "hip" with the kids these days? Will your idea even draw in any attention? Is it too hard a concept to grasp? Will it attract the attention of both old and young rpers?

This is also probably to help those who want to RP (such as myself) but are really struggling to find a genre of RP that is currently popular with the kids these days. What I want to know is what you guys want to RP - you can list what you like or discuss it more vividly - more Pokémon or real life? Less Action more Adventure? Literate or not so much?

Feel free to put forth any ideas you think would be helpful towards pushing some life in to this board.

literally my only preference for rps is that they're literate (which seems extraordinary given the absolute drivel i've written here)

i think if you're going to do a sort of 'fandom' rp other than pokémon you should make a [disc] topic on here to make sure that there's people who want to engage in an rp of that sort, but other than that i'll pretty much join any new rp that pops up on here because they're so few and far between

i prefer adventure to action a bit because there's more opportunity for interaction and change of settings and learning stuff about characters etc etc

at this point, though i think that even the sort of cliched 'pokemon high school' stuff would be fine because it's an easy sort of thing for younger and/or newer rpers to sink their teeth into, but i think there's also that whole thing where people go 'i sort of want to make an rp... is this idea good enough?... nah, maybe next weekend', which tbh is something i do a lot.  even if people don't want to join all these rps it still makes the board look active which i'd think encourages people to post a bit

thanks gl <3

I want to see an RP that has some actual progression. One where there are choices to be made, actions to take, etc. Nothing wrong with having the characters talk among themselves, but it seems like a lot of RPs end when two or more characters try to get the actual story moving.

As for what the RP is about, I like RPs that have a mix of dialogue and action. An RPG, though a turn-based combat system would be hard to pull off unless you have various tables to determine what skills do how much damage (i.e. Fire does 1d6 + Magic mod. or something along those lines). Free-form combat is cool too, but people tend to drop when the fighting starts.

^Basically what they said.

To add, I remember I tried to get a pokemorphs rp going. I was really hyped for it, then I slowed down with the posting because all I had was fluff basically. No one has even looked at the topic since. That drives me crazy because I have so many ideas going to waste and floating around in my mind.

I'll take any rp that is on something I know about, that is literate and not required to write a short book on your posts or form. Sometimes I go a bit less specific to leave it to the reader's imagination. Some people don't like that, and I respect that. Still, something that's overly specific is something that turns me away.

So to sum it up, I want an rp that:

1. Progresses
2. Something that I know/ that anyone can pick up easily (not required)
3. Detailed but not overly specific
4. Does not require you to write a short book on every post.
5. Literate (wanted the most)

I know this seems like a bit much but as long as it's interesting, I can work with it.
