Title: Justin Beiber - Good or Bad?
Post by: Meowstic Royalty on November 12, 2013, 20:10
Justin Beiber - 19 or something, bushy hair and a ton of fans, almost all of which are female. With his huge fan base but also the fact that nearly everyone I know thinks he sounds like a goose being strangled, what's your opinion?

Truthfully, I think he sounds like Jynx using Sing after drinking too much alcohol, but what's your opinion? Good or bad?

I don't HATE people who like him because obviously, that would be rude and disrespectful. I mean, they can't help that they like him.

Heck, I liked JLS at one point but what are you gonna do about it?

But I, myself think he is overrated and he and all his Young Pop friends* should go back to where they came from and start doing a normal day job....

*Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Carly Rae Jepsen etc. etc. etc.

i used to bash him when everyone else did lol but now i just laugh because the crap has hit the fan with him now. I didn't like his songs that much, i think how arrogant ("I'd like to think Anne Frank would've been a beliber too" and stupid (see when he didn't know what germany was after touring there) he was/is just annoyed me. I'd probably have liked him when i was 12 i guess

I'm kind of mixed with him - I don't like him as a person, but I like his music quite a bit (mainly because it's easier for me to sing xD)

Let's count the ways he's bad, shall we?

1.) He made getting a tattoo seem uncool and lame
2.) His attitude is getting worse every day.
3.) His grandparents provided for both him and his mother before he became famous and now the grandparents are struggling financially and he won't help them.
4.) He worked with Nicki Minaj
5.) He apparently has a substance abuse problem WHICH no one close to him seem to encourage him to get help.
6.) He's part of the reason most of today's music (2010's) sounds either horrible or exactly the same.

I'm sure there are more reasons but these were the first to come to mind.

A bit pointless really. I mean, why not just get a sex change?

he's an arrogant idiot who's let  fame go to his head and i hate him. he said rape happens for a reason, he's recently insulted the argentinian flag (not that i care, but it is a jailable offence in Argentina) and news is he could be banned from the USA for being an arse

I think you're all being a little harsh...

You do realise radios or whatever device you are listening to him likely have an 'off' switch... I think killing him may be a little drastic...

Anyway - I like him - he might not appeal to everyone but he's good at what he does. Try selling a million records with no talent - unless you're a Korean named Psy, it's not going to work

I would say he's undeserving of death, though the things he has done are...not good. A lot of people don't deserve death. At least he isn't someone charged for crimes against humanity, all he's done is given pop music a bad name and a few other bad things. shush PSY was actually funny.

And talent does NOT equal success, if you get my drift. Hey, there are loads of people with talent who are not getting the recognition they deserve. He's an example of some bad music taste.

When he first got famous I didn't really care - I knew of him from an au-pair and from an appearance on the Graham Norton Show and, okay, I thought he seemed sweet.  I also thought that there had to be talent in him because he wouldn't have become such a dominant figure if there wasn't.

I don't think the issue is with him as a person; I think it's because people have been holding him on a podium since he was 16 and (please excuse my generalisation) he has a massive group of fans who - like most celebrities have - wouldn't hesitate to lynch a person who trashed him.  Alongside the portion of rabid fans, there are also the people who dislike him enough to start spewing hateful comments; as we all do, he likely took the positive comments above the negative but kept the sting of the negative.  Also, the lad's at an influential age - someone needs to give him a harsh talking to and by the time he's 26 he might have calmed down.

I think he might have that mix of misanthropy, vanity and arrogance that leads to a thoroughly unpleasant person. Now that I've got that probably-wrong-rant out, there's a deep love of Taylor Swift from this corner.

Nicki Minaj

The Baha Men
Lou Bega
William Hung

You're mistaking 'talentless' for 'not to your taste'

Unless I'm missing something here, you wouldn't buy a song unless you liked it - correct? In order to sell those millions of albums/records/singles, millions of people must have liked your song enough to purchase it.

Nicki Minaj, for instance, I really don't like. That doesn't mean to say she's talentless - she's pretty talented actually - I just don't like her music.

^Maybe you two are both right by saying just because a so calles "artist's" style isn't for me but couldn't that same logic be used on BIEBER as well in that he may not be "talentless?" I agree that it is my opinion and I have every right to voice it and my opinion should be respected as does others. Besides what's the worst dissing artists I don't like such as the Beastie Boys The Stupid Screaming Boys going to do? I mean is MCA going to rise from the dead as a zombie and eat my brain? Sure I may have offended some fans of his but I never said I wished him dead and hoped he suffered as he died from cancer. So apologizing won't magically take away the fact he's dead. Sorry I went off topic a bit but I needed to let others know where I stand in terms of my opinions being taken the wrong way. I do not mean to offend anyone as it is not my goal but if I did then it is you with the problem.

It's a shame that all of the cruddy music is getting billions of hits (I'm looking at you Gangnam Style) and all of the decent stuff is little known. All of my favorite songs only have a couple hundred thousand views on YouTube while the popular (and rubbish) stuff has a good few hundred million under their belts.

It's all subjective though. I love Kate Nash, Taylor Swift and Regina Spektor. My brother loves Skrillex and Hurts. They've all got a butt-ton of hits, but we still have to listen to classical music or Avril Lavigne in the car to stop arguments about whose music is better because those two are our only common ground

However, if someone likes him then I will respect their choice in music. The same goes for the 1D fans. I might not like the music but it's still selling so they must be doing something right.

^I forgot to add Rhihanna to the list I made. I admit she is a talented artist. Also forgot Cee-lo Green in the list as well. Christina Agularia isn't really part of the same sounding stuff played on the radio now either. Never heard of Jessie J but the reason I didn't include Eminem is simply because he is mainly a rapper and that genre is unique in its own sense and usually doesn't have the majority of rappers sounding exactly the same.
