Title: [C] The Whisperers [Ad][P][Pa]
Post by: Shaymin on September 08, 2014, 19:07
Long ago, before the items used to obtain Pokémon had even been a twinkle in a scientists eye, befriending Pokémon was a rare and celebrated gift that very few were ever born with. They were known as the Whisperers - they couldn't exactly understand Pokémon, per sé, but to normal people, the Whisperers could essentially speak to Pokémon.

It was rare for a village or town to have more than one Whisperer at a time - when the abilities manifested themselves, if there was already a Whisperer and apprentice in town, they would be sent to another town without an apprentice. Their job was to keep the peace between Pokémon and humans - which often proved to be more difficult than it sounded. Wars between the two was rampant, and even if there was peace in one place, there would be war in another.

You are a Whisperer - a young one, apprenticed to an older Whisperer of your town. You have recently befriended your first Pokémon - one who left their home to come and live with you. It is a great honour to have a Pokémon become your partner - some Whisperers do not befriend their first for many years, but you, in your teens, have proven to be a proficient Whisperer.

But there is a threat on the horizon. Your Mentor has left for a week - something urgent, they say, but they do not tell you anything else. You are left to look after your home and the people who live there, but the rumours come. Reports of your Mentor's death, of the deaths of all the Whisperers apart from a few apprentices who were left in their homes. You are one of them. It now falls to you to meet up with several other apprentices to figure out what happened to your Mentors, and what danger lies on the horizon.

To sum up, you are a special kind of human. A Whisperer has a special connection with Pokémon - you can read their body language and they yours, so you can have basic conversations with them. Your Partner has a deeper connection - almost psychic - and that connects you. Whisperers rarely befriend more than ten Pokémon in their lifetime (meaning you'll get to befriend more later on in the RP!!).

Your Mentor, the one who is supposed to teach you how to properly read Pokémon and stop fighting between humans and Pokémon, is dead. Reports of a terrible war far to the west have reached your town. One apprentice has sent you a letter - to meet in the port of Summerlake to head west and find out who killed all the other Whisperers.

Hey, just want to reserve a spot for Oakbank with a complete-but-for-starter-post ((Just edited it in now)) form, if that's okay:

Name: Oliver Blaine Thornton
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Appearance: Around 6'2" in height, fairly average weight. His limbs are long, his arms being somewhat average in terms of muscle tone, however his legs are well toned from walking. He has hazel eyes and a thick iris, and cocoa brown hair styled into a pompadour. He is usually wearing a white shirt with a grey silk waistcoat and well-polished black shoes. His trousers are black, as is customary with formalwear of the period.
Personality: Oliver is outgoing and will talk to almost anyone, but has a habit of making the conversation mostly about himself due to his parents being largely the same. He's pretty likable, however some find him somewhat of a show-off from his very well off upbringing. His gift as a whisperer certainly didn't help to tame his rather inflated ego. He tries to be helpful, but usually ends up disregarding people's problems as petty, but does so not out of malice.
Partner: Deerling / Male / Sassy Nature / Seed Bomb / Return / Nature Power / Jump Kick
Town: Oakbank
Starter Post: Bored as usual, Oliver went through the usual monotonies of everyday life: cleaning the house; washing the dishes; making my lunch. Finally, he came to the last of his mundane chores; collect his mentor's mail. Oliver went to the mailbox to find five letters, one of which was in the most unusual envelope. Closer inspection revealed also that this was addressed to him, which seemed inconceivable given he had not received mail. Oliver ran to the kitchen, finding himself overly excited at the prospect of opening an envelope. Doing so revealed a letter on regular parchment. Peasant's parchment, in Oliver's opinion. He read it; it almost confirmed that the rumours of his mentor's death were true. Not only has his, but those of apprentices all over the world. He felt shock, more so than when he first heard the rumours. He didn't want to met these people so he could hold on to the last bit of hope that the sender of this message is committing forgery, but he knew more answers would be found in going than clinging on to hope. He would depart for Summerlake immediately.

Name: Dennis Lumbard
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Appearance: Standing at exactly 6' tall, Dennis is of a lean build with a stronger upper body in comparison to his lower half. He has somewhat thick, curly jet black hair that is ruffled rather than neatened with facial hair beginning to develop on his face. Interestingly, he has two different coloured eyes, his right is a thick brown whilst the other is a stunning blue. In terms of clothing, he usually wears a red and gold doublet, attached with a black cloak, navy breeches and big, brown boots to slightly elevate his height.
Personality: Dennis is somewhat of a wolf-like character; usually a loner, he prefers to deal with problems without assistance. However, he can be adaptable if the situation arises where it is necessary, this is due to an inner competitiveness he has. Dennis can be broken out of his loner exterior and when that happens, he showcases elements of loyalty towards those he feels he can protect, most importantly his Pokémon. His biggest flaw is the feeling of doubt he has over others, but most importantly himself, although he tries to avoid showing it at all costs, which at times can make him seem cold. This is down to the problems Dennis had with his father and how he was always made to feel weak and helpless.
Partner: Deino - Draco
Male
Rash Nature
Bite / Headbutt / Dragon Breath / Dragon Rage
Town: Mageburn

Starter Post: Sitting in his bedroom, Dennis placed a treat on the floor which Draco happily gobbled up. Releasing a small but nervous grin, the teenager rose from his position and began to pacing in the room.

"It's just not like him to be like this. He's never been late for anything," he mumbled to himself as his Pokémon cried for more food. As he reached across the table to grab another one, a series of loud knocks hit his door. Dennis opened it sharply, before seeing his mother standing before him. She was speechless but her face painted a thousand pictures; her lips shook uncontrollably and her tear-ducts could not stop pouring. Seeing that she was holding an opened letter, he quickly grabbed it from her.

"Your father insisted on opening it, I'm so sorry..." She cried as the tears flowed even more. Dennis gritted his teeth before grabbing his cloak and put it on.

"I won't let the same happen to me mother. I at least owe that to him," He stated as he picked Draco up from his seated position.

"I'll miss you," Dennis whispered before hugging his mother who continued to weep. He turned over to his father who was stood in the doorway; staring sharply at each other, Dennis proceeded out of the door and placed his Pokémon on the floor.

"This way Draco, we've got somewhere to go," He stated as a sole tear trickled down his cheek; luckily his Pokémon couldn't see it, even if it could sense that something terrible had happened.

Deino is fine, GL c: Also you may list nickname/moves/nature etc if you wish~

Name: Magnolia "Mags" Shaw
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Appearance: Mags is all around average - at a normal five foot six, with tan skin and dark curly hair. Her eyes are the only non average thing about her - one eye is green, the other more blue. It's hard to notice, really, but if you get close, it's a bit more obvious. She normally wears a brown coloured shirt and brown trousers made of a rough material. She wears a simple pale short skirt over her trousers. Her shoes are knee high dark leather boots. For the journey west, she also has a large pack and a cape.
Personality: Mags was never a people person - but she tries to be after learning she was a Whisperer. Almost a Whisperer alone in her own right, she is a leader rather than a follower, and won't hesitate to do what's right. She can be quick to anger against those who dislike Pokémon or Whisperers, but she will usually keep it bottled up. She tries to be neutral in all parties but she certainly prefers the company of Pokémon over other people.
Partner: Pikachu / Thunder / Male / Bold / Thundershock, Thunder Wave, Tackle, Tail Whip
Town: Summerlake
Starter Post: The letters had been sent out. It would be some time before everyone arrived - the roads were sub par at best, and some towns were many hundreds of miles away. And that wasn't counting the fact that these were all kids. Dex had warned her this might happen, that he might not come back. It was almost as if he knew it was going to happen. She hoped his Lapras was faring well without him - that was if the Pokémon was alive. Thunder nibbled nervously one a berry at her feet, feeling her worry in the air. Reaching down to scratch behind his ear, she sighed. "This is going to be a long year, Thunder," she murmured to him softly. "Let's just hope these kids can hold it out without their mentors..."

Name: Frances Maidlin

Age: 15

Gender: Female

Appearance: Frances has bright ginger hair reaching just past her shoulder blades.  She brushes it meticulously every morning, but the only thing she'll complement it with – if ever needed – is a hairnet.  She has a round, pasty, freckled face, on a short and skinny frame.  She has hazel eyes and often wears deep brown cotton britches with a slightly patchy blouse.  Over that she'll normally wear a slightly tatty cardigan.

Personality: Frances is a bustling young girl who always seems to be slightly busy.  Although nagging and nosy, once she's set her stall in somebody she is loyal to them for life.  Occasionally, this makes her easy to manipulate, but she's usually nosy and persistent enough to know who exactly – in her opinion – are the right sorts of people to set her stall in.  She's very down to business in a group and will fixate on getting things done before relaxing.

Partner: Ralts/ Careful Nature/ Calm Mind, Psychic, Toxic, Shadow Ball

Town: Coldmount

Starter Post: Frances wiped her forehead against the unfamiliar sun beating down through her blouse.  She'd long abandoned her cardigan, leaving it skirting the borders of Ironmerrow, much to Ralts' chagrin: Ralts was sure Frances might need it later on.  Frances had shrugged the advice off, and was not – so far – regretting that decision. As they approached the rendezvous point, Frances turned to Ralts and gave her a gentle giggle. Summerlake was by vast waters that Frances – with all of her meagre social status and wealth – had never had the chance to see.  The idea that she was about to cross it was one that had struck her with a dizzy excitement throughout the journey, and all of that was just sugar glazing on the thought that she could be seeing her mentor again soon.  She swallowed and her throat stuck, prompting her to stop and turn away from the rendezvous point to try and get herself under control.  Sufficiently satisfied that she had calmed enough, she turned and walked towards the rendezvous point at full power with a "What's all this, then?".

Name: Lenna Chambers
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Appearance: Healthy pink skin generously covers Lenna's rounded features. She's medium sized in almost every way standing at 5"5 and with a slight stomach. Her hair is ash blonde, straight and worn loose. She has large hazel eyes. She wears very modest clothing (plain blouses, long skirts) in mostly greys and browns but was given a pair of black trousers by her Mentor as more suitable clothing for Whispering. Living in Ironmerrow means that her clothes and features are often matted with dirt, too.
Personality: Lenna is a gentle heart. Her connection to Pokemon came as no surprise to the people of her town as she had always carried a patient and peaceful air despite her strict routines and orders. She likes to study and practice something until she has reached a satisfying understanding of it. These qualities come, unsurprisingly from being the second oldest child in a family of seven. Lenna is devoted and protective over things that she cares about and has a capacity to be very compassionate.
Partner: Sandshrew / Male / Mild / Sans / Sand Attack, Poison Sting, Rollout, Rapid Spin
Town: Ironmerrow
Starter Post:
The sun rose over the mountains on the morning that the letter came. Lenna had been outside furthering her Whisperer training in the days while her Mentor was gone. Today Sans, her Sandshrew friend, was making the most odd movements and seemed somewhat agitated and Lenna couldn't understand why.
"Lenna. Lenna!" her father shouted to her. He sounded almost happy, this, Lenna decided must be important. Her father hadn't been happy since their farm had been ruined and they'd had to sell it.
"Be right back." she said to Sans, she had no time to make elaborative gestures, and ran to the little shack she called home. Lenna burst through the door "What is it, father?" she asked.
"You have a letter." Lenna could read and the letter, when handed to her, took her less than a minute to skim through.
"I have to go, father." and soon Lenna was leaving the house, saying good byes, explaining the situation to Sandshrew, asking him to come with her and beginning her journey to Summerlake.
She and Sans discussed the situation in shaky and hushed tones as they walked, both terrified and uncharacteristically impatient with anticipation for what would happen when they got to Summerlake.

Name: Lyra Stone

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Appearance: A short and slight girl who perhaps looks a little under her age. She has rich golden hair that falls just beneath her jawline and bright hazel eyes. Despite her age, her build is small and somewhat child-like. She usually is seen wearing a white blouse with some slight ruffles around the collar, her trousers are dark but fairly baggy, allowing her to travel and venture into rougher terrains with ease. Due to her wild and outgoing nature she often has the appearance of being somewhat scruffy, her clothes sport some rips and are rather worn from all of her adventures with her partner.

Personality: Lyra is a real live wire. She has a great energy about her and a passion for live and all of those around her. Her passion does have the tendency to make her fairly headstrong. She will openly speak her mind and can often become too emotionally invested in things. She wears all of her emotions on her sleeve and can often be a little rash, this makes her fairly transparent in her motifs at times. Despite this she has good intentions, she often just needs to slow down to take in other perspectives.

Partner: Riolu- Jekyll
Moves: Force palm, Endure, Quick Attack, Swagger.

Town: Marbletown

Starter Post:

Lyra's hand had not uncurled from around the crumpled letter for the entirety of their journey. For some it seemed a great danger to leave home and travel in such perilous times. Her mentor was dead, there was word of a war- everything seemed so bleak. Yet in the midst of it she was out with her partner Jekyll and it seemed as if there was nothing of worry at all. The wilderness was beautiful and for a brief moment despite all of the danger looming ahead, she did not feel a shred of fear.

...Or was that just what she was trying to allow herself to believe?

A slight sound came from beside her, causing her to drop her round hazel gaze onto the Riolu padding alongside her. It seemed he could sense the uneasiness that had begun to prickle within her along with her eagerness. It seemed that both emotions were entwined together.

'You know we'll be fine, Jek.' She mused softly, a somewhat playful smile dawning on her lips. Their bond was close, so close that at times she could feel it. Alone she might admit she felt some fear towards their predicament, but with Jekyll by her side it granted her confidence. They would be fine as long as they stuck together.

Her gaze rose slowly as the pair reached their destination, it had taken a good few hours to reach and Lyra had to admit she was grateful that they could now rest. The girl's eyes lit up at the sight before them. 'Wow Jekyll, look at all of that water!' Her smile grew at the bark from her side. 'I'll bet there are loads of Pokemon here!'

Her positive nature was very much instilled within her despite their situation. She knew that Jekyll's sensitivity towards aura meant he could read her emotions better than most, hence why she tried to mask each negativity with a smile. It was through this mindset that she had the strength to move forward.

Name: Nicholas 'Nicko'  Fisher
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance: Nicholas is around 6 foot. He is well built. He is quite tanned due to living in a warmer area and being out at sea. Nicholas' hair is golden blonde and hangs around his shoulders, kinking slightly at the ends. A fisherman by family trade, Nicholas prefers practical clothing. He wears a thick white shirt, with a woollen snood attached. His trousers are brown, and his footwear are a pair of sturdy knee high waterproof boots. Nicholas also wears a pair of leather gloves that stretch up to his elbows. He is quite tanned due to living in such a warm area.
Personality: Nicholas has a sense of adventure from having travelled with his father on long fishing trips. As he has grown older he has had to take care of the house and his family more, making him 'man of the house'. Despite this he relishes responsibility and being in charge. He can sometimes be very manipulative to get what he wants or his preferred outcome in a situation. Nicholas is in no way a 'user', he cares for his friends dearly and can be very over protective.
Partner: Lilly - Poliwag (f) Naïve  – Bubble/Hypnosis/Double Slap/Dig
Town:  Baybeach
Starter Post:
The pair sat idly on the beach, with Lilly close by his side. She was burying herself in the pale white sands. Popping back out she hopped onto Nicholas' lap. She was very odd for a Poliwag and it was even odder than Nicholas had managed to tame her. "What shall we do today then?" he smiled, knowing Lilly wanted to swim. Lilly ran towards the sea as best a Poliwag can but stopped right at the waves.

Nicholas followed and spotted a small bottle, washed ashore. Picking it up and scraping the wet sand off it, he noticed a letter inside. "Strange, we haven't reiceved many letters for a while." He thought. Wriggling the damp cork he removed the letter from inside. Nicholas' face paled in shock. His mentor was dead. Lilly immediately sensed what was wrong. She stared up, sadly.

"Come on Lilly, we need to go."

He walked down towards the small harbour and gathered some supplies from his fathers old boat, used as an extra storage space. Thoughts entered his mind of sailing to Summerlake but he decided against it, he wanted to see more of the land- not the sea.

Rushing along the sands up to his house Nicholas said goodbye to his mother, younger brother and sister. He was actually doing what he wanted, going on an adventure but for all the wrong reasons. With a heavy heart he left for Summerlake.

Lilly's mouth frumpled, she was scared. Nicholas gave her a reassuring pet and she hopped into his damp snood.

Ok, E.K.A.N.S., you can still go ahead and post your profile and hop in to catch up! We start... now!

Impatiently tapping her foot, Mags glanced up the street. This was the address she had asked all the other remaining apprentices to meet, today. She had sent the letters so everyone would have time to get here - even those in the cold north and the far east. It would take them some weeks to reach Summerlake, but they had to be here today. Overhead, a Wingull screeched to another and Thunder looked up worriedly.

"Pika." he said flatly.

"I know, but don't worry. They'll get here soon. I mean, it's not like there's anyone else in Summerlake who has a Pokémon attached to the hip, is there?" Mags asked. Thunder opened his mouth to speak but said nothing. "They'll be here... I know they will."

Lyra had spent her first moments so captivated by the vast expanse of lake before her that the sight of Magnolia had eluded her. It was only after receiving a sudden tug on her trouser leg from Jekyll that she was alerted to the stranger who had not too far from where they stood.

Her body stiffened at the unfamiliar person ahead, it was only upon making out the small form of a Pikachu beside the person that she settled. It seemed like this would be a safe person to approach after all. Flashing an eager smile down to her Riolu she began to move confidently forward to where Magnolia was. There was no need to be strange about things, it seemed sensible to get familiar with those who had the same talent as her.

'Hi there.' Lyra called out as the pair approached close enough to be within earshot. 'Did you get a letter too?'

Jekyll paced alongside her, his gaze seemed more suspicious of the individuals, but he remained close nevertheless. As the pair drew to a halt near Magnolia and the Pikachu his gaze fell to inspect the other Pokemon. A low but nonthreatening growl echoed in his throat.

Having left the vast plain surrounding his neighbouring town, Oliver knew he was not far from Summerlake. He looked to his Deerling, who appeared to be somewhat fatigued by the seeming eternity they had been walking.

"We'll be there soon, don't worry." Oliver promised, and almost as if scripted his Deerling began its beautiful transformation from it's pink spring coat to the vivid green coat of it's summer forme. At this, Oliver looked to the horizon to see the town of Summerlake.

He hastened his pace to a run, his Deerling cantering behind him, both eager for answers and rest.

Upon arriving, Oliver opened his letter to find the address which the sender had arranged to rendezvous at. As he turned the corner, he realised he was at the right address, as stood a few doors down were two girls - or woman, impossible to tell - with Pokémon, clearly apprentices like him.

"So, the letter? Which one of you sent it?" Oliver asked, walking toward the women.

Dennis had quickly made his way through the deserts situated outside of Mageburn; the heat, whilst stronger than expected, was not problematic and had not slowed their pace. They were now past the sand and had entered the plains where the cool and welcoming breeze created the perfect zone for a break. Dennis elbowed a tree hard, causing a few apples to drop onto the ground as Draco began to swing wildly with its mouth, hoping to devour anything in it's way. As his Pokémon ate, the teenager stared into the distance, seeing the town he had been searching for. He crouched next to Draco and began to stroke his head.

"We're almost there, which means you've got to keep your mouth in check. We don't want to make enemies straight away," Dennis stated sternly as he watched the last apple disappear into Draco's stomach. He let out  a small cry of satisfaction before closing it's mouth, trying as hard as it could to follow the instructions given. The pair moved onwards at a consistent pace and, once at the meeting point, leant on a nearby wall, awaiting further revelations.

As Sans and Lenna had gotten closer to Summerlake, Sans had been growing increasingly uncomfortable - there was a lot of standing water, almost like the floods and there was no sandy or dirty areas for Sans to burrow. More than once he had curled into a ball for defense against some strange sight or another. Even the flowers nearing Summerlake were different, they were round and bountiful - shooting up into the air to greet you while in Ironmerrow the only flowers were heather and snowdrops with dipped heads. Lenna found the scenery refreshing.

They entered Summerlake around late afternoon and felt the unfamiliarity of the surroundings. Rather than looking for a specific address, Sans and Lenna wandered around the town before eventually they had spotted a small group of people a similar age to herself surrounded by all different types of Pokemon. She walked coyly up to the group. She noticed not a single exception was made to the news that all of the Whisperers had died, it really was just the apprentices. This bothered Lenna somewhat because if the Whisperers couldn't survive whatever was going on then how would a group of teenagers. "Is this where I'm supposed to be then?" She said openly, scooping an exhausted Sans up into her arms.

Frances arrived at Summerlake tired, dirty, cardiganless, and in need of a good new pair of britches and a clean blouse.  Nevertheless, she powered on – if just to let whoever had called her there know that she was not best pleased with the map she'd been given.  Ralts followed at her heels and was looking around the front of Frances' legs every now and then just to make sure there was no funny business up ahead that Frances had missed.

Somewhere half a mile or so from the meeting point – surrounded by water on all sides, which was not usual and should not have been taken as such – Ralts' neuroticism got the better of Frances.

"For goodness' sake, Ralts!" she snapped, "you can either actuallystand in front of me so that you're the one on the lookout for danger or you can just accept that I know what's good for me!"

Needless to say, Ralts stayed firmly behind Frances for the rest of the journey, even as Frances stumped up to the gathering of new people brandishing her map – which, like her britches and blouse – had torn and crumpled going through a thicket of brambles in the forest between the borders of Coldmount, Landwald, and Summerlake.

"You couldn't have written a better map, could you?"

Lyra could not help but be surprised as the extent of people accompanied by Pokemon had begun to gather. It did not take her long to realize that each of them seemed to possess the same letter and map that she had received, it was this that sparked her curiosity even further. Who had initiated this?  It really felt a little overwhelming at first. It was risky in a sense that they had all met together. A part of her almost wondered if it was safe. They were all out in the open. They each had a Pokemon but they weren't big or as strong as others could be. If a threat were to make itself known what would they do?

The girl was drawn to Frances, the unfamiliar girl's chiding of the small Ralts that accompanied her had a great sense of energy about it. At the mention of the map, Lyra gave a laugh, looking to her crumpled copy. 'I'm just hoping this thing was made to be so vague in case it fell into the wrong hands!' With a smile she settled alongside the stranger, holding out her hand. 'I'm Lyra and this is Jekyll. If you don't mind my asking, where abouts are you from?

The girl could not help but be curious. She had not met many others like herself, not to mention having seen so many different Pokemon. The small Riolu stood confidently by her side, eyeing the timid looking ralts. The Pokemon cocked his head slightly towards the psychic type, making a small but friendly noise in a curious but careful greeting.

Mags felt like she had been waiting forever when Thunder's ears perked up. They only ever did that if Pokémon were near, and Pokémon didn't tend to come in to Summerlake for fear of the humans who would try to hurt them or use them for their own cruel means. That meant that the other apprentices were still alive, and they were here. She tried to look important, but in reality she was actually terrified. Dex had told her that she was probably the oldest apprentice - not because she was bad but because no village needed her as a fully fledged Whisperer yet - so she should take on the role of leadership in some way.

The first apprentice arrived - and judging by the Riolu beside her, she was from Marbletown. Thunder peeked curiously at Jekyll, ears twitching and nose sniffing. "Pika!" he exclaimed, gently bumping the Riolu on the head with his palm before scooting up on to Mags's shoulder to point out more apprentices arriving.

A boy with a Deerling, probably from Oakbank or Marshpond, another boy with a Deino - a Mageburner - a girl with a Sandshrew, Ironmerrow maybe, and then a girl with a Ralts, Coldmount. Some of them would have taken weeks to get here. The Coldmounter didn't look happy, but Mags remained silent until everyone had settled.

"I sent you the letter, and I'm sorry about the maps. Art isn't really my thing," she said with an apologetic shrug. "I'm Mags, the apprentice here at Summerlake. Obviously you all know about your mentors... unfortunate passing. My mentor, Dex, seemed to know this would happen and warned me before he left. All of the Whisperers were called to the city, which if you look at your maps, is across the lake," she said, giving the others time to look at their maps. "Now, I know we're all pretty young here, but as far as I'm aware, there aren't any Whisperers left, and we're the last of us. We need to find out what happened, and stop whatever is happening." Mags said defiantly.

As far as she was aware, Dex had mentioned something of a crisis over in the city, but had failed to mention much more. No boats would take them across - not with their Pokémon anyway. For all the damned help they did, normal people loved giving the Whisperers bad treatment.

"Now," Mags cleared her throat. "As no ferry will take us to the city, we're going to have to find some Pokémon big enough to carry us across the lake," quickly pulling out Dex's book, she scanned through it. "The Lapras are currently up north in their breeding grounds. It's rare to get Wailmer in the lake, so we can look for them. Blastoise can be temperamental and wary of any humans, Whisperer or not, so unless we help them out they may simply warn us off. Whiscash are another choice, though they can be a bit... slow in realising where we want to go and we could end up miles away from where we want to be. I'd avoid the Feraligatr like the plague at this time of year - they have young and won't hesitate to kill anything that gets too close. Gyrados I wouldn't touch with a fifty foot barge pole... Quagsire's are in the swamp at the moment..." she bumbled on for a while before looking up. "Well, whatever Pokémon you manage to befriend, try to make sure it can carry more than one person."

When Mags finished speaking she wasn't looking at Lenna, but Lenna nodded in understanding anyway. They were stood near the lake but somehow she doubted that it would be easy finding Pokemon at all considering the conflict. And another thing, Lenna had never befriended water Pokemon before only ground, rock and steel types. She wasn't entirely sure but she thought that water Pokemon would have a completely different way of thinking and acting to the Pokemon at home. A challenge then?

Lenna stepped uncertainly away from the other Whisperers and towards the water, it was clear and apparently shallow. She put Sans down a few metres away from the water. "Don't run off." she said, calmly. And, after taking her shoes off, began to wade into the surprisingly warm shallows. Lenna was careful not to go too far, she knew that lakes and oceans had a 'drop off' point in which the water suddenly became much much deeper. The best way about this, Lenna decided, was to wait until the Pokemon were cofortable swimming around her ankles. She tried to breathe as steadily as possible to avoid scaring them. If she was comfortable, they would be comfortable too.

Player 9 enters the fray!!

Name: Jason Alexander
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Appearance: Standing at 6' 2", Jason is a farmer's son who looks the part. Years of milking cattle, fieldwork, and other physical activities have made him fairly muscular and, for lack of a better term, beefy. His skin is tan from time spent in the sun, he has a few scars here and there from injury (mostly caused by a particularly rebellious Miltank), and his hair is jet black and cut short. He typically wears a plain white cloth shirt and brown frayed pants with heavy boots he purchased from Oakbank. He has dull gray eyes and wears a small green scarf soaked in water to keep him cool during times of heat.
Personality: Jason doesn't have as much education as those who live closer to the city. He learned mathematics, knows how to read and write (though he never got around to reading much literature), and knows some science as well. His knowledge is mostly in physical work: he's pretty handy with a wrench, knows about animal behaviour, and knows how to fight. He speaks in a rustic manner, often using slang or improper grammer. He has some anger problems, though his status as a Whisperer forces him to hold back until the urge to punch someone's face overcomes the urge to be a good role model. He is wont to swear, though he usually catches himself when in the company of people he shouldn't swear around. Most of his life can be summed up as farmin' and fightin'. If it ain't one, it's the other. And if ain't either, well then that's new.
Partner: Cuddles / Cleffa / Female / Calm / Pound, Charm, Sing, Thunder Wave
Town: Landwald
Starter Post: Jason continued walking down the beaten path. The letter told him to go to Summerlake, and given that this letter appeared shortly after his mentor up and vanished it seemed like the best course of action to take. Besides, Summerlake wasn't that far. He walked further for more trivial matters. He had some supplies with him: tools to build a basic tent, some food, a canteen, and a modified carrier that was used to hold human babies and worn like a backpack. In the carrier was Cuddles, the Cleffa that was fascinated with the new world and smiled brightly when Jason tied a small green bow in her fur.

The Pokémon babbled and let out some sqeaks as they pressed on. There was a slight breeze, which helped cool off both Whisperer and Pokémon, and Jason picked some berries as they went along and fed them to Cuddles, who very much enjoyed the treat.

After some walking, and an unexpected nap courtesy of a certain companion we won't name, Jason arrived to a hill overlooking his destination. Others were already there and he could just make out that some had Pokémon with them.

Oliver took Mags' insinuation that Gyarados was impossible to tame as a challenge, a challenge he was going to rise to. He still wasn't entirely sure whether he liked the woman, but regardless he wanted to show he was better. He looked to Mags, who now appeared to have finished speaking.

"So, we just need to tame something big? Sounds easy enough." Oliver said, departing to the west. Truthfully, he'd never tamed water Pokémon, but, how hard could it be? As he walked along the shoreline, he noticed shoals of Goldeen and Finneon swimming away from a bay in the distance. That must be where he would find the Gyarados. He approached the bay and saw that it was filled with swarms of Magikarp. He looked in the water but couldn't see a Gyarados anywhere; it appeared they must be deeper in the lake. He turned round to go and look elsewhere, only to see a shadow slowly creep over him, the stench of the sea air getting stronger and stronger as he felt the breath of a monstrous creature slowly sending shivers down his spine. He concealed his fear and turned round, looking the Gyarados that lay before him square in the eye. Gyarados stared back for a good few minutes before Oliver began to speak.

"Gyarados, I presume?" He began, in a calm yet stern voice. He was met by the slow, deep growl of the creature. It unnerved him slightly, but he knew he couldn't let it show. "I require your assistance; would you be so kind as to take me across the lake?" Oliver asked, his voice eloquent and calm. The Gyarados looked for a minute like it would accept, but then it opened its jaws and struck. Oliver jumped, being hit just by the crest of the Gyarados, sending him hurtling towards the deeper end of the bay. He was sure he'd land in the deep water, which would be embarrassing given he could not swim, but fortunately he hit the back of what he could only assume was a Pokémon.  Close inspection revealed this to be a Lapras! Composing himself, Olive began to speak to it.

"So, why are you not with the other Lapras breeding up north?" he asked, being met by a low pitched call. He took this as a request to look at the Lapras' shell, which he noticed was cracked. This Lapras was badly injured, it must have had to rest in the bay while it healed.  "I can fix that, I'm sure!" Oliver offered, the Lapras only too pleased to see if he would. It rode Oliver to shore, and he began to run toward the main market of Summerlake, the Lapras following him from the water.

He approached the market, and received the herbs necessary to treat it's wounds. He knew it would take hours at the least for the Lapras to begin healing, and likely days to be surfable. Days he did not have.

After Mags had finished Dennis moved off without verbal response and found a spot away from everyone else. He sat down on a rock and began to strategise as Draco hunted around for food. He knew at this point it would be foolish to chase a Gyarados and he knew helping the Blastoise could be time consuming but at the same time he did not want to just find any old Lapras. He almost wanted to make a statement.

"It's a shame you can't Surf quite yet Draco... Draco?" Dennis muttered before realising that his Pokémon had wandered off. Immediately panicking, he rotate his head around in an attempt to find him. He knew he could not have gone far; being unable to see made him prefer to stay in close proximity and let food come to him. All of a sudden, a large crash of waves could be heard in the distance. Frantically sprinting towards the sound, Dennis began to worry even more, whispering explicits to himself. Not before long, he reached a large area in front of water, noticing his Deino backing away slowly as a large roar could be heard.

"Draco, are you okay? Oh... we're not okay..." He said, heart sinking as a Feraligatr began to rise from the water. A small sigh followed as the Pokémon began to growl viciously at the pair. Instinctively, Dennis grabbed Draco from his position and once again began to sprint as fast as he could. He did not even bother trying to look back; he valued his life too much for that. Continuing for almost a minute, he began to tire and paused to pant heavily. Dennis slowly rotated his head behind to make sure they were safe.

"Looks like we're alive for now," The teenager stated reassuringly as Draco nodded in acceptance. He placed his partner carefully onto the ground and began to direct him to a nearby beach-esque area, hoping that the Pokémon here would be less temperamental.

Jason approached the rendezvous point and saw some of the other Whisperers. They were a varied lot, each with their own Pokémon. Some looked fearsome, others looked more relaxed. Cuddles turned in her carrying pouch, given that she was a squishy sort, and looked over Jason's shoulder at all the new faces and (hopefully) new friends they'd make. She let out a curious squeak as Jason made his way to where some others were gathered.

"Hey there. Ya'll the ones who got this letter too?" he asked, holding up the letter. "I just came down from Landwald. Weren't much of a walk. Kinda refreshin' really."

((Eeps don't wanna let Loz's lovely RP fall flat on it's face - c'mon kiddos!))

Lenna had watched the boy with the Deerling flounder around in the water, attempting to tame a Gyrados and for a minute she worried that he might be scaring the Pokemon away but soon forgot her troubles as she laughed at him splashing about. The fish, it turned out, had not been scared away and Lenna almost jumped out of her skin when a wary Remoraid tried to take a nibble at her leg. She sent the shoal rather mad but the Pokemon calmed very quickly. Despite her pleasure at the curious Remoraid, these were not the right size for surfing.
When she shooed the Remoraid away, Lenna noticed a shuffling on the sea floor. A small displacement of sand which revealed a Mantyke. He circled her a couple if times, seeing if she was safe. Mantyke were big enough to carry one person. Lenna sighed, a Mantybe would be better. She bent down to the Mantyke "Hey there little fella." She began softly "Do you think you can show me where your family are?" The Mantyke wriggled around her feet. Then without warning he took off down the beach, staying in the shallows. Lenna followed at a run.
When she caught up with the Mantyke it was being fussed by its gargantuan mother, she was at least two metres across, she could carry three people! But Lenna couldn't take the mother away from her babies, they would have to come too. Lenna could try and tame the whole family. There were three Mantyke and the large mother. Together they could carry six. She approached them cautiously.

((yeah sorry for lack of posting, been a busy and stressful week, whoops))

Dennis had spent a few minutes walking across the shore, seeing a few small fish Pokémon roaming around but nothing capable of carrying one person, never mind more. He sat down on the sand with Draco beside him and grabbed a small pebble, skimming it across the water.

"This is a lot harder than I thought it'd be..." He sighed, almost showing signs of defeat, before a large, somewhat round figure rose from within the water. It had a small lump on the top; the stone must have made contact with it. Rather than attack though, it swam closer, intrigued by the presence of Dennis and Draco.

"That must be a Wailmer!" Dennis exclaimed as he too moved closer. After a few seconds they were within touching distance. The Wailmer began to signal the pair to get on; not forcefully but more as a request, it seemed like it had a problem and wanted assistance. Knowing that this could be the only way for them to get a carrier. Dennis picked up his Deino and leapt on top of the Wailmer who began to surf into the distance; as this happened the teenager began to bandage the Pokémon to cover up the damage he had accidentally caused. A few minutes passed and the group began to approach another beach; as Dennis began to squint to focus on what was in the distance, he realised there was another Wailmer, only this one was stuck on the beach. At this point the Wailmer they were riding on began to shout, almost as a plea to help its friend.

"Don't worry, we've got this. Draco, when we get onto the beach, I need you to drive your head when I tell you to, okay?" Dennis asked as the Wailmer pulled up to the shore, allowing the pair to jump off. The Whisperer carefully picked up his partner and placed it centimetres behind the second Wailmer who was crying and struggling frantically.

"Drive!" Dennis barked with Draco obliging; he pushed his head down and began to step forwards, trying to move the Pokémon. It began to move very slowly; the progress was not enough to get it out of there any time soon.

"Drive harder! Drive as hard as you can!" Dennis reiterated, causing Draco to work harder. It still wasn't enough; sighing, he too began to help, pushing all of his body into the Wailmer. The pair pushed ferociously without much result; Dennis had almost underestimated how much it would have weighed.

"Can you try and get some more help? I don't think we can do this on our own," Dennis asked the first Wailmer, panting heavily, before pushing again. It obliged and swam back into the distance, trying to find extra assistance.
