I know there's 2-3 months until Christmas, but if people agree, I can set up the thread early so people can get a head start.
My idea is like a competitive pokemon secret santa. Basically, we enter everyone's names in, randomize the selection and give competitive pokemon out as a christmas present. Of course, we don't want you to be a scrouge and just give any old magikarp, because that's just mean. :( Of course, you don't need to go over the top, like shiny 6 Iv legend. Although you can do the latter if you wish.
The only problem with a secret santa is that people can't know who it's from, unless they check the OT. So for it to be a true secret santa, we'd need a middleman to hold onto the pokemon for trade. However, this could cause some dishonestly, so for that, we'd need someone fair.
Of course, it could just be a christmas exchange of pokemon, but that may not be as fun. That would be a bit easier of course.
The person could specify if it has to be fully competitively bred.
Scout and Raphetty's suggestion: Have a wishlist of a few pokemon so people know what sort of thing to breed, if possible.
dragoncat's Idea: The person organizing and distributing the lists to each person will have to withdraw from receiving in the system to maintain fairness. That will be me.
So what do you guys think?
Very interesting. Can we offer any useful Pokemon like a Lv 1 female Togepi with Present or does it have to be a Pokemon used only for competition?
I'd recommend it to be competitively bred with IV's and the like but you're welcome to offer it. The person could specify if it has to be competitive. Don't tell us what you're giving, that ruins the fun.
I wasn't. I just wanted to know if rare gendered Pokemon with hard to get egg moves were allowed.
That would be ok. I mean you can offer anything, but offering something bad like a magikarp you just kinda caught 5 minutes ago is just mean in my eyes.
Idea! I could give out numbers, like a person is # 1 and the next is #2 and so on, then you choose a number that's available that isn't yours. Then I'll take what's left.
Edit: This wouldn't work.
That sounds like a good idea!
I am just going to state the obvious:
1) Try to breed a 5IV Pokémon without the right tools, which are the ones used competitively.
2) Due to random sampling, one can receive exactly the same as what they bred.
3) Few people here are interested in that sort of Pokémon.
Otherwise → Go ahead.
I think the main problem would be that someone spent a long time breeding a Pokémon and it ends up going to someone who doesn't want it. So I think each person would need to make a wishlist of Pokémon they either do or don't need, or they could say they want any good Pokémon in a particular tier, excluding ones they already have.
@Scout and the above user: Great ideas, I really like the wishlist thing the most. I'll add that to the start. You can start spreading the word to see what this is if you like.
I may just be restating what was already said, but I have a few ideas.
The problem with assigning numbers and having people pick them is that it leaves the possibility open for people to tell someone what their number is so they can pick that, which defeats the whole idea.
What you could do is have a middleman assign numbers at random, then use a random number generator to assign who they will be giving to. Then they will pm each participant with the name and wishlist of whoever they are assigned.
To sign up, participants could pm their wishlists to the middleman. The wishlists would have to have at least some number of pokemon, to keep whatever they end up getting a surprise. Whoever does this can also facilitate the trades, for the reason you stated in the first post.
Another thing they could do, in order to prevent people receiving the same kind of pokemon they give, is have everyone tell them what pokemon they decide to give, and if the person they are giving it to plans on breeding the same thing for someone else, they could tell the first person to pick something else. It would have to be the first person who it told, because if it is the second, then they will know what they will be getting. To prevent wasted time and effort if someone has to change pokemon, no one will start until everything has been worked out. A post will be made to tell everyone when they can start.
Of course, whoever does this will have to take themselves out, in order to be fair.
Does any of that make sense? Because I'm pretty sure that all may just be a giant word mess.
Honestly if it comes down to it, I'd volunteer to take myself out and be the middleman. I just thought it would be a cool idea to get people excited to be on the site.
If I were to be middleman, i'd just publicly post my list of a few and put something like "My wishes, if you want to give a little extra or happen to have an extra one of these you don't need". I've got some friends at lunch, I pitched this idea to them and they seemed to like the idea a lot, so I'll try it with them if I can in a seperate lot.
This sounds like a good idea. If it ends up happening, I'm in.
Ok, the actual start post will be posted the day after Thanksgiving (because I want nothing to do with commercialized crappy crap until after being able to celebrate this holiday).
