So.... no complete ban for Gengarite in smogon. They are going to test shadow tag, though.
Do you believe that this is the right call?
I guess we'll have to see how the metagame plays out if this is the case. Guaranteed kills isn't great but Ubers has historically been a free-for-all anyway.
At last a Mega Evolution that doesn't get banned. Seems like every Mega Evolution is getting banned here and there.
For me, it's not a question of whether it's the right call or not. In the near future, the Pokedex will be full of Pokemon that can Mega Evolve. Game Freak will expand the Mega Evolution campaign. Soon it will become the standard. And Smogon will accept it (unless it decides to ban the entire metagame). I don't worry much about Gengar not getting completely banned for those Farfetch'd reasons.
Well most Mega Evolutions are getting promoted to Uber from OU, not outright banned. Mega Gengar is getting banned from Ubers was the original call from my recollection.
Here's the thing, with the standard moveset in singles, Gengar is guarenteed 2 net kills a game. Plus with shadow tag, it can come in on anything it wants and just kill it.
All you have to do is come in, use perish song, wait it out then swap when the turn has come, then wash, rinse and repeat.
I don't know all of it, so i'll hand off to Rich if he wants to continue.
There are arguments on both sides of this, and I don't think there is a right or a wrong here, but I can say that personally, this would prevent me from ever wanting to play Ubers.
However, if Shadow Tag is banned, that bans Gengarite and more Pokemon. Granted, none of them are fantastic in Ubers, but why not just ban Gengarite in that case?

I guess it's more that banning a pokemon from a banlist (I know gengarite is technically an item, but it's only for one pokemon so it's basically a pokemon) is illogical and hasn't been done before, whereas an ability has already been done in Moody
I don't necessarily agree with that reasoning, but that's the reason I imagine they've decided to suspect an ability rather than ban a Pokémon

But banning Shadow Tag is essentially the same thing as banning gengarite. It's not like mega-gengar can have any other abilities AND mega-gengar would be the main reason for the ban.
I'm thinking they're regular suspecting Shadow tag, not trying to ban it from ubers in general. I think they're trying to move it to ubers only.
Gothitelle? With Shadow Tag? Banned?
Please, reconsider your thoughts.
Well, anything with shadow tag and even a mild offensive presence or even defensive presence could just come in and faint/stall out whatever it wants. At least that's the best reasoning I could possibly see. Even then....

It comes to the same end yeah, and it don't agree with that logic, but it's sort of a way of banning M-Gengar without hard banning it.
It's dumb, but like you said M-Gengar is the only real reason for banning Shadow Tag so I can't think why else they'd be doing it
They're suspecting it in Ubers, not OU. Shadow Tag is not broken in OU. If this passes, we're losing Gengarite anyway, so this is really stupid. It's a cop-out to appease the people that don't like the idea of banning Pokemon forms. We still get to ban it, but bonus, an ability that is NOT broken gets banned from Ubers. Hilarious.
Gengarnite should be banned so I can play Ubers pls thanks
You could always make a VoltTurn team including ghost types which can switch out of Shadow Tag, such as Giratina or Ghost-type Arceus.

The trouble is, it's all good being able to switch out, but what about switching in? It's very difficult to switch into gengar perfectly safely, and even if you do manage it can still take at least one of yours down with destiny bond. 1 for 1 isn't ideal for the gengar user, but at least they haven't lost out.
im not worth salt at uber either way,
