Title: Mario turns 30!
Post by: Petzbreeder on September 11, 2015, 13:21
Happy Birthday Mario! (http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/34207517/happy-birthday-mario-iconic-game-character-turns-30)

The world's most favourite plumber turns 30 today. I grew up with the Mario games from an early age when my brother played Super Mario World on the SNES. It makes me feel old to think that Mario is only 1 year and 2 months older than me!

Which Mario game is your favourite and why?
And what is your greatest memory of any Mario game?

But I thought he was older. I mean he technically made his first appearance in the Donkey Kong arcade game in 1981 which means he's really 34 this year.

Super Mario World for the SNES.

Man I love that game so, so much. I think I'll cry tears of joy if it ever reaches the 3DS virtual console. I love the art, I love the music, I love the levels, the secrets, the bonus parts...everything is just excellent.

Quite possibly Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Because everything in that game is just so funny. Easily one of the most replayable games I own

Super Mario Galaxy 2 was fantastic. Graphics, fun levels, cool prankster comet challenges...it had an awful lot of good things going for it.

(waiting for Wii U version of SMG)

I forgot to say that my favorite Mario game would be Super Mario Land 2 and getting that game on my birthday with a GameBoy is my favorite Mario memory. It is the only Mario game I've ever completed 100 %

Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2 are two of my earliest gaming memories.

Never been much of a fan beyond that in all honesty.

Cue backlash.

Some old Mario games I hate! Such as super Mario land for the gameboy! It's sooo hard! And if you get a game over, you have to start all over again from the very beginning of the game! I love the invincibility theme! Is it just me, or is it very catchy? It's sounds very familiar too! It's like I heard it somewhere before!

Super Mario land 2 is easier, I once managed to get all 6 coins, I die though! That castle was hard! I never found out who the final boss was, but I just assumed it was Bowser (understandably!) Be now I have an emulator, I found out it was Wario!

Super Mario land 3, you're supposed to be the bad guy! For once!

The SML Invincibility theme is the classic Can Can song

I managed to get up to world 4! The music is funny I could help laughing a little! I was being chased by Japanese ladies(?) The music is SOOO unoriginal! I've heard the invincibility theme (can can) and the world 4 music before!

Those "Japanese ladies" are really based on the jianshi which is the Chinese equivilant of the zombie only they can hop. Hsien Ko from the Darkstalker series and Capcom VS Marvel 3 is an example. They fit the theme since it is based on China
