Gaming / modded retro consoles, anyone?
« Last post by sans the skeleton on April 24, 2019, 02:37 »
honestly i straight up dont know which forum this would go under so if mods/admins rehome this im not gonna be mad about it
not that y'all need my permission or anything

anyway uhh. modded consoles, yes. they've become real popular recently. did anyone get one? do any of y'all work on your own? specifically talking about nintendo consoles but anyone's welcome to weigh in with their modded retro consoles tbf

i don't have one (yet) but since i lost my old SP, im thinking of getting a second one. my old one was a bright color i wont get into, but the new one i'm planning to get will be black. planning on replacing the black buttons with light blue ones and then one day upgrading the screen from an ags-001 to an ags-101. the main difference is that the 001 is front lit, which means a bit less quality but mainly it'll be harder to see in like... the sun, or whatever. the 101 is backlit and easier to see. (think of a ds top screen!). and then because im so basic, holographic sticker on the back for decoration, tbh.

edit: for personal reasons i now have improved my aesthetic

It looks like the case won't be big enough - it supports micro ATX but the motherboard you are looking at is just ATX. My boyfriend made the same error recently and now we have an extra case lying in the flat.

I have to drive home tomorrow. I want to sleep in the sun instead.

I can't find the case I want to use on the list. Maybe you could have a look for me.

first things first; pc part picker can be used to put all the parts you want into a "build" to see if they're compatible, and there are also a variety of build guides there you can look at or just outright use if you don't feel like/don't feel confident about picking out your own parts.

overclocking is where you take a part and make it operate beyond the "stock" setting to produce more performance, usually at the cost of higher heat output i think? for the most part it's pretty safe to overclock as long as you don't ultra mega crank it.

i'm fairly certain, although it's not easy to clarify since i'm not much of a hardware person, that this is just saying it will support any DDR4 RAM up to 3466, and/or(?) it will allow you to overclock RAM to(/past?) that frequency.

since I'm not really sure, and I can't figure it out from a simple google search, i'd recommend checking it in pc part picker, and that ~should~ let you know about any incompatibilities the hardware pieces you choose have. if you still feel fairly uncertain, look at some of the build guides on pc part picker and maybe pick one of them, or check out logical increments, which is a wonderful website that tells you a fairly good (maybe best for the price?) build that you can just grab all the parts for without having to think too much about it.

I want to buy a motherboard and a case (which is big enough for it to go in) so I can start building my own pc from scratch. My dad won't let me buy them because he said there might be compatibility issues. What compatibility issues? I haven't bought anything else to go with it yet!

now he doesnt have an excuse, have at it

Gaming / What does this mean?

I've been looking at various things to build my own gaming pc from scratch.

On this particular motherboard that I like, it says it supports DDR4-3466+(OC) memory.

I know that OC means overclocked, but I don't actually know what overclocked means. I don't know if it saying that it needs to be overclocked to use DDR4-3466 memory, or that's the maximum amount of memory it can use without being overclocked.

Here is the motherboard I plan to use.
