Granite Cave is located in Dewford Town. You need to visit it during the game; in order to deliver a Letter to Steven. Visiting the cave again is compulsory to defeat the game completely, as it is the only place when Nosepass can be found. There are also a couple of rare items lucking around. You can find:

• Escape Rope
• HM05 (Flash)
• Pokeball
• Rare Candy
• Repel
• TM47 (Steel Wing)

You’ll need to have HM05 (Flash), HM06 (Rock Smash) and the Mach Bike if you’re going to fully explore the cave. The cave can seem like a bit of a maze, so simply follow the following guide:

Enter the Cave through the door. You are now in Floor 1. Talk to the hiker to receive HM05 (Flash). You’ll need it in a minute. Keep following the path around until you reach the ladder. Go through it and you’ll arrive in the darker depths of Floor 2.

Finding Steven

If at this point you are planning to find Steven and deliver the Letter then read on. Otherwise, this will just be old news to you. Whatever you’re doing, use Flash now will make life a damn site easier. Follow the path upwards and to the right. Go as far right as you can. Then follow the path down and right (the path will zigzag a little). Go down the ladder into Floor 3. Go up slightly and follow the path leftwards. Eventually you should come to a group of three smashable rocks. At the top of the stairs directly above you should be three more smashable rocks. (Hint: Smashing these rocks is the only way to find Nosepass). Go right, pass the second set of smashable rocks, and almost straight away you’ll see some stairs leading up to an empty platform (Hint: Press A on the rock up there to find a hidden item!). Anyway, go past the stairs and directly to the right will be the next ladder, which will take you back to Floor 2. Go directly left for about 3 steps, and directly you’ll go up another ladder, back to Floor 1. Follow the path around until you can go through another door. This should lead you to a room where Steven is. Deliver the Letter to him, and he’ll reward you with TM47 (Steel Wing). To exit the cave, just leave this room and walk right. You’ll jump over a couple of ledges. Ignore the ladder and just follow the path round to the exit.

Exploring

Make your way to the start of Floor 2. Go directly up and you should see a slippery ledge. Gain a bit of speed and climb it using the Mach Bike. There will be a ladder directly in front of you. Go down it, collect the item, and then return. Go slightly left and you’ll see some cracked areas of floor. You need to gain some speed on the Mach Bike and then quickly ride over them. For the first set you just need to ride a direct left and you’ll be over them. For the second set, you have to ride in a sort of “r” shape; gain your speed going up and then ride across the cracks on a direct right. There’ll be a ladder there, but it leads to nothing. For the last set, you have to ride, right, down and then right again, preferably not hitting the rock in the middle. Eventually you’ll manage it. Then just follow the path round and go down the ladder, to collect the last item (a Rare Candy).
