There are two trainers to beat in Violet gym; Bird Keeper Matt and Gym Leader Falkner. Beating them isn't too hard, as they don't have very varied teams. They both have a team full of Flying types.

Bird Keeper Matt has the following team:

• Pidgeotto
• Pidgeot
• Hoothoot
• Spearow
• Doduo
• Natu

Hoothoot and Natu both have the move Flash, so you may want to have something that knows Swift, Faint Attack or Dynamicpunch on your team. Pidgeotto and Spearow know Fly, so if you can, have something that knows Twister, Thunder or Gust on your team. Other than that, use Electric, Ice or Rock moves against each bird and they should be defeated easily.

Falkner is slightly trickier to beat. Here is his team:

• Pidgeot
• Fearow
• Noctowl
• Togetic
• Farfetch'd
• Delibird

All of Falkner's birds know Mud-Slap. The good news is that Mud-Slap is a very weak move. The bad news is that it lowers accuracy and is super-effective against Electric and Rock types, two types which are super effective against Flying types.

My advice would be to use either a Zapdos with Thunderbolt or an Aerodactyl with Ancientpower; these are poth super-effective against all members of the team and take no damage at all from Mud-Slap. Be aware that most of the team also knows Fly, so follow the advice to beating the Flyers on Matt's team.

Remember when enterring this battle that Ice will only do normal damage to Delibird, although Rock will do four times the damage. Also bear in mind that Pidgeot knows Whirlwind, so make sure your whole team is effective against Flying types.

That's all there is to it! You should beat both teams with little effort. When you beat Falkner, you will open up the path to Bugsy's gym.
