Beta Information :: Snap Other Pages

In the beginning, there was Tariji, on the first year he created Kanto, and a few years later... Pokémon Snap. Now Snap's been out for a year, most fans have played and completed it, and occasionally they go back for a quick burst of photography related fun. But your favorite Pokémon-type-people (namely Daniel and Psythor) have dug up some early screens which were shown at Spaceworld 97, and these screens are from the official Nintendo magazines preview of "Pocket Monsters Snap". If your old enough to own a copy of it, look in your cupboard, it's quite a laugh seeing them name the Pokémon.

Above what we now know as an Ekans. Notice how it looks horribly jagged (or have I just been seeing to many Gamecube screenshots?), and what course is that? I've no idea!

On the left is a track that has obviously been left out because its so boring! Look at it, just a plain straight with no scenery. Also note that there is no rail tracks along the ground. This is obviously a beta made for Spaceworld quickly because there's nothing to to do.

Looking to our right, we can see a Squirtle wandering around a bush. The Nintendo magazine called it a "Terepin" Pocket Monster!

On the left again, it appears that the Squirtle is following a trail of Apples and is running towards you! Notice the dodgy looking trees in the distance and the flexibility of the aiming thingy in the middle.

Now on the right here was what I suspect as the UK's first glimpse of the actually bit where you take photos! Look how boxed in the picture gets! Its a good job TV's aren't those old fashioned ones with the tiny screen and massive cases!

Well here's your photo album, talk about different! Its obvious that before the game was released, the menu presentation was reviewed and altered. I'd say that in some ways, this does look quite 'neat', because it looks like a scrapbook...

One thing I'd like to point out is the dramatic change in the presentation of the items you can use in the bottom right. Here, in beta, it has a white bar behind, when on the real thing, we are treated to a 'spiffing' flashy type thing with cool little icons with a picture of the button near them.

Woah! Another totally unknown track which looks just like a straw version of the other! Here you can see some other simple trees and a Meowth coming towards the screen. Have you noticed whats odd yet? Theres nothing in the bottom corner!

On the right is some sort of select screen. I think its the one where you select pictures to show to Oak. As I mentioned above, the presentation style has changed a lot. Don't worry about the purple square in the corner, that's just to mask out something which was covering the corner of the pic!
