HeartGold and SoulSilver Pre-Release: Pokéthlon | Sponsored by Sunflora

The Pokéthlon - a Pokémon Marathon.

The Pokéthlon Dome has now sprung up somewhere in the Johto region - it's not yet been confirmed where, but a possibility is the site of the Crystal Battle Tower - just West of Olivine City. Pictured on the right is the Pokéthlon reception area.

Pokéthlon is effectively the Johto equivalent of Contests/Super Contests. You can select 3 Pokémon to use at once and there are 10 different activities you may be chosen to participate in, relating to 5 categories: Jumping, Power, Speed, Stamina and Technique. Winning a Pokéthlon may earn you Ribbons but this hasn't been confirmed yet - what is confirmed in a points system similar to that used in the Battle Frontier.

Pokéthlon Events

Currently 4 of the 10 events have been revealed:

Bounce Field | Dash Hurdles | Ring Out | Snow Shoot

Bounce Field

In this game you use the touch screen, and use the stylus to "flick" your Pokémon upwards, with the aim of hitting the lights to turn as many off within the time limit as possible.

Dash Hurdles

In this game your Pokémon run automatically along the track (speed based on their Speed stat, shockingly), and you have to tap the touch screen to make them jump at the right time to clear the hurdles. A perfect jump will result in a temporary speed boost. Your 3 Pokémon have to try and finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Ring Out

If you've ever played the Playstation game, Crash Bash, then the words "Polar Panic" will tell you the basics of this game. Set in a boxing ring, you have to use your stylus to flick yourself into them, pushing them out of the boxing ring.

Snow Shoot

A four-way snowball fight between 12 Pokémon. How incredibly enthralling. Here you use the touch screen to flick snowballs at the other Pokémon. However, you also have to dodge the snowballs thrown by other Pokémon, since being hit results in a daze lasting a few seconds in which you are unable to move.

This page will be updated as more details are released!

Hmm... I wonder whether this will use something similar to PokéBlocks to boost the different attributes, or whether ALL of the attributes will relate to different stats. I can imagine Power being Attack, Speed being Speed (as was confirmed), Stamina being HP or Defense or something similar and Technique possibly being Special Attack?
