In Black and White you begin your Pokémon journey alongside two rivals - Bianca and Cheren. Both of them are close friends of yours and will offer you help and advice along your journey, but both will also request battles with you on a regular basis. This page details the occasions on which you can battle your rivals.

Nuvema Town

The game actually starts out with you battling both Bianca and Cheren in your bedroom, destroying the room as a result! Cheren will receive the starter Pokémon which is strong against yours.

Striaton City

Just before you reach the first Gym you have to go and find Cheren in the Pokémon School and defeat him in battle.

Route 3 (Unova)

Shortly after defeating the Striaton Gym Leader, Cheren will once again request a battle with you.

Route 4 (Unova)

Your next battle with Cheren will take place after you have defeated Burgh in the Castelia City Gym and are headed towards Nimbasa City.

Route 5 (Unova)

Upon leaving Nimbasa City Cheren will appear and request another battle.

Route 7 (Unova)

Your next battle with Cheren is not until you have earned your sixth badge in Mistralton City and set off for Icirrus City. He will approach you near the entrace to Twist Mountain and request a battle. You actually receive HM03 from Alder for winning this battle.

Route 10 (Unova)

Cheren will next appear on Route 10 (Unova) after you have earned the Legend Badge in Opelucid City and have set off for the Pokémon League.

Victory Road (Unova)

After defeating the Pokémon League and speaking to Cheren on Route 5 (Unova) he will set up home on the top floor of Victory Road (Unova), where he will accept challenges from you for a battle.

Just before you reach Striaton City and the first Gym, Bianca will reappear and give you your first Rival Battle since leaving Nuvema Town.

Route 4 (Unova)

As soon as you defeat Burgh in the Castelia City Gym, Bianca will ring you on the Xtransceiver and challenge you to a battle. She will appear as soon as you leave Castelia City towards Route 4.

Driftveil City

After defeating Clay in the Driftveil City Gym, as soon as you try to leave for Route 6 (Unova), Bianca will challenge you to another battle. After defeating her she will present you with HM02.

After receiving the Dark Stone or the Light Stone in Nacrene City from Lenora, you will find Bianca on Route 8 (Unova) just before you come to Tubeline Bridge.
