Competitions!: - 2nd Place | by Liam
For the competition I decided that it would be cool to make a strong bug type (and it's prevolution). Bugs are seen as puny creatures who are stomped on by the likes of such Pokémon as Gyarados (which is funny because Gyarados has no feet). This bug type would be have to be accompanied by something new of course. To give it a bit of flavour. That something new was a ground secondary typing. Yes, Nincada exists, but who uses Nincada? Sadly there is no Bug/Ground who comes out of the soil and shines. :(

But now the time has come!

Potential Competitive uses

Tyrantula has an amazing thing going for it that many (made up) Pokémon dream of, Arena Trap. This allows him to trap and revenge kill anything that he chooses to with the aid of a Choice scarf, taking advantage of his behemoth Atk stat. His physical bulk also allows him to sponge hits pretty well. He can also take thunder waves!

Choice

Tyrantula@Choice scarf/Choice band
Trait: Arena Trap
Nature: Adamant/Jolly
EVs: 252atk, 252spd, 4HP
-Megahorn/X-scissor
-Earthquake
-Stone edge
-Crunch/Pursuit/U-turn

This set takes advantage of Arena Trap and Tyrantula\'s ability to hit hard with a massive base 125 attack stat. He has plenty of options, but these moves work the best, giving him STAB Megahorn and Earthquake as well as the much desired EdgeQuake coverage (rock+ground) that very few types resist. Crunch is for a bit of extra coverage while pursuit allows you to catch levitating psychic and ghost types who think they can get away. U-turn is for scouting purposes and allows you to break sashes, etc. X-Scissor is for accuracy > power.

Bulky Sweeper

Tyrantula@Leftovers
Trait: Arena Trap
EVs: 252HP, play around with attack and defence. Maybe speed if you\'re feeling outrageous.
Nature: Adamant/Impish if you feel the need for extra bulk
-Swords Dance
-Megahorn/X-scissor
-Earthquake
-Stone edge

Trap something that can\'t touch you like a choiced electric attack and procede to swet up while they don\'t do anything.

Life orb Sweeper

Tyrantula@Life orb
Trait: Arena Trap
EVs: 252atk, 252spd, 4HP
Nature: Adamant/Jolly
-Swords Dance/Agility
-Megahorn/X-scissor
-Earthquake
-Stone edge

Once this guy sets up there is not much stopping him. When it comes to agility nothing will slow him down, considering he laughs at your thunder waves!

I like it! This would be an interesting Pokemon for competitive, we don't have enough good Bugs. Especially SRock neutral ones! :D
