Today on their adventure, Ash & Co. are walking through a hot, tropical looking forest on their way to Ecruteak City. They notice a Mankey and a couple of Aipom up in a tree, eating from a bunch of bananas. Ash decides to get some himself and runs towards the tree, accidentally slipping on a dropped banana skin and falling through the bushes. As Misty and Brock walk after him, Brock also slips on a banana skin and goes flying after Ash. Misty carefully walks after them. She finds them having landed in a hot spring. Brock invites her to get in. She comments that it does look nice.

As Ash and Brock hang their clothes up to dry, Brock suggests letting their Pokémon out for a little fun. After letting their Pokémon out, Ash throws them a beach ball to play with. They play nice at first, but Chikorita hits it hard at Totodile, who whacks it with it's tail, sending it flying into Cyndaquil who gets knocked down as the ball bounces away through the trees. Chikorita gets angry at Totodile and they start fighting. Totodile shoves Chikorita into Cyndaquil, knocking it over again. Cyndaquil gets angry as well and starts fighting with the other two. Ash thinks that they are just playing, but Misty says it looks more like fighting. In an effort to prove her wrong, he sends the three off to find the ball. As they go he tells Misty that they get along just like he and she do.

Searching for the ball, Chikorita comes across an Aipom playing with it. She asks for the ball back, but it refuses. She gets ready to attack, but Totodile jumps forward, straight at the ball. The Aipom jumps up with the ball, causing Totodile to crash into a tree and a group of Aipom to fall out. Angry, they attack the three, throwing sand at them. Totodile is buried, but Chikorita uses Cyndaquil as a shield, then tells it to flare up, scaring the Aipom away. As Chikorita and Cyndaquil give chase to get the ball back, Totodile bursts free of the sand and follows them.

Not too far away, Team Rocket are also walking through the jungle. They're searching for the hot springs, but also picking as much fruit as they can carry along the way. Suddenly a group of Aipom carrying a beach ball come running down the path, stampeding over the Trio and stealing some of their fruit. Following closely behind are Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile who, completely ignoring the Trio, continue on the chase. Recognising the Pokémon as the ones belonging to Ash, the Trio deduce that he must be nearby, and adding on the fact that the Aipom were carrying a beach ball, they conclude that he must be near a beach. Or, since they aren't near the ocean, the hot springs. They decide to follow the Pokémon in the hopes that they lead them to the twerps and the hot springs.

The beach ball thieving Aipom goes into a cave, followed by Chikorita and Totodile. Cyndaquil is reluctant to follow them inside, but Chikorita goes back and pushes it along. Team Rocket arrive and, thinking that it may be a shortcut to the hot spring, prepare to follow them inside. Suddenly the ground begins to shake and a Snorlax appears. Noticing the basket of fruit on James' back, it picks him up. As he slowly makes his way towards the Snorlax's mouth, he begins to panic, but Meowth tells him to slip his arms out of the straps, causing him to fall to the ground. Snorlax eats the basket of fruit whole, then spits the chewed up basket back out. It turns to the Trio who, fearing it may still be hungry, run inside the cave. Snorlax then sits down in front if the entrance, blocking it off and going to sleep. With the entrance blocked, they begin to look for an exit.

Running away from the Trio of Pokémon, Aipom comes to a fork in the tunnel. It goes down the right one. Not far behind, Totodile comes running along and runs down the left. Chikorita and Cyndaquil come along, and go down the right tunnel too. When Team Rocket come to it, Jessie and James go down the right, but Meowth, not taking much notice, accidentally goes down the left. Totodile comes to a dead end, and is about to turn back, when it sees Meowth. Noticing Totodile, Meowth looks around in panic, wondering where his team-mates are. Taking the opportunity, Meowth pulls a net out ready to catch Totodile, when the cave suddenly shakes.

Outside the cave, the Snorlax is moving about, leaning forward, then smashing back onto the cave. Inside, everyone is panicking. A large rock falls from the ceiling straight towards Meowth, but Totodile knocks him out of the way. Elsewhere in the cave, everyone else is having to dodge falling rocks too. Meowth stands up, wondering what happened to Totodile, when it bursts out from under a pile of rocks. He thanks it for saving him, but asks it why it did. Totodile tells him that it's because he is another living creature, like him, causing Meowth to tear up. He points out the wall of rocks blocking them from going back, so Totodile starts using Water Gun in the hopes that it may be able to move some of it.

Elsewhere in the cave, Chikorita and Cyndaquil are also trapped, unable to go forward, and unable to go back either. Chikorita looks sad, but Cyndaquil tries to cheer it up. Chikorita then looks around and walks off to find a way out, followed by Cyndaquil. Soon they find their way out of their current confines, and come across another wall of rock with a trickle of water coming from it. Going closer, they hear Totodile on the other side. Chikorita Tackles the rocks, loosening some of the enough for Totodile's Water Gun to punch a hole through the wall. The three friends happily reunite. Meowth asks if they have seen Jessie and James anywhere, which they haven't. He begins to think that they have left him, but the three Pokémon try to cheer him up. Touched by their kindness, he tells them that they are the best friends he has ever had.

After blasting a hole in the side of the cave, Team Rocket make their escape, also finally finding the hot spring. They attempt to jump in, when the group of Aipom appear and begin throwing stones at the Trio, stopping them from entering the water. They climb a tree to escape the group.

Back in the cave, Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile apologise to each other for fighting. Suddenly Chikorita feels a breeze. It runs over to a wall of rocks, saying that there is an exit just behind it. Totodile uses Water Gun on it as Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Meowth try pushing.

Back at the hot spring, Ash notices the three aren't back yet. He decides to go and look for them.

Inside the cave, the four Pokémon finally manage to break down the wall, only to find Snorlax still asleep at the entrance. Totodile comes up with an idea. Chikorita tickles Snorlax with it's leaf, causing it to move a little. Totodile then Bites it, causing it to move a little further. Finally, Cyndaquil uses Flamethrower, causing Snorlax to hurriedly jump out of the way. The Trio of Pokémon rush out of the cave, when Meowth suddenly turns on them, trapping them in a net. He thanks them for helping him, but reminds them that he is a Team Rocket member. As he is telling them that they will be the bait so that he can catch Pikachu, Snorlax walks over, angry. Meowth points to the other three, telling Snorlax that they were the ones who burnt him, but they just point back to Meowth. Taking their word for it, Snorlax begins to chase the fiendish feline. He runs into the cave, and Snorlax slams into the outside.

The impact somehow causes the hot spring Team Rocket had found to overflow, washing them back into the cave where they are reunited with Meowth. The water washes out of the entrance, but Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile escape being washed away by clinging onto the floating Snorlax.

Looking for the three Pokémon, Ash & Co. soon notice the water rush down the river with the three holding onto Snorlax. Ash is about to jump in and rescue them but Brock and Misty tell him that the current is too strong; he will be washed away.

Floating down the river, Chikorita uses Vine Whip to pull itself up onto Snorlax, then lends a vine to Cyndaquil and Totodile, pulling them up too. They notice Ash & Co. running along the bank. Ash tells them that the current is too strong, asking them to try and steer Snorlax closer to the shoreline. As they run, Brock notices a waterfall a little further downstream. Chikorita uses Razor Leaf, cutting two trees down, forming an arch over the water. Totodile jumps up and bites onto it. Chikorita then uses it's vines to grab onto both Totodile and Cyndaquil, saving themselves and letting Snorlax wash away. With the weight of the two Pokémon on him, Totodile struggles to hold on. He begins to lose his grip, when Ash, having climbed the trees, grabs onto them. He pulls them up, to everyone's relief. He suggests to them that they all go back to the beach.

Back at the beach, he has them promise that they won't go off on their own again. Pikachu then notices something and goes to the water, picking the beach ball out. They decide to have another game.

And back on the river, Snorlax has been washed up against some rocks, stopping it from floating any further. Team Rocket have also been washed against something; Snorlax. Thought this doesn't last for long, as Snorlax wakes up and begins swimming back upstream, causing the Trio to get washed away.
