Ash and Co have all stopped on another small island to have a rest. All their Pokemon have left their Pokéballs, and are enjoying themselves. Several of the Pokemon are riding around on Laprass back, including Psyduck who falls off. Lapras returns minus Psyduck, and Misty begins to panic. Suddenly, a girl appears riding a Tentacruel, and asks if the Psyduck she rescued belongs to any of them.

Misty claims Psyduck as hers, and the girl introduces herself as Marina. Marina points out that Psyducks tail has started flashing, which frightens Misty. Marina tells her not to worry. She explains that she was once told that when a Psyducks tail flashes like this, it means the Psyduck is about to evolve into a Golduck! Ash looks up Golduck in his Pokédex, and finds out what a great Pokemon Golduck is. Misty decides that Golduck is her favourite Pokemon, and Marina agrees. Marina asks Misty why her Psyduck cant swim. Misty lies, and says its some sort of rare breed that cant swim. Marina is impressed, and asks for a battle.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket are watching from their Magikarp submarine. They all decide to wait until the right time to strike, before arguing about lunch.

Misty and Marina have both agreed on a 3-on-3 Pokémon battle. Marina sends out Tentacruel, whilst Misty sends out Goldeen. Tentacruel uses Wrap, but Goldeen dodges using Agility. Goldeen moves in for a Horn Attack, but Tentacruel uses Poison Sting, fainting Goldeen. Misty retaliates by sending out Staryu. Staryu uses Swift, and faints Tentacruel.

Marina sends out her Psyduck. It looks a lot stronger and better trained than Mistys. Staryu uses Water Gun, but Psyduck uses Confusion, deflecting the water back onto Staryu, fainting it!

Misty sends out her Psyduck. She throws the Pokéball, but nothing comes out, resulting in the Pokéball landing in the water. Embarrassed, she walks over the waters edge and pulls her Pokemon out to water... only to find its a Golduck!

Misty is thrilled that Psyduck evolved. She hugs it, and tells it that nobody will ever shout at it ever again. Ash mutters to Tracey that the only person who ever actually shouted at Psyduck in the first place was Misty.

In the battle, Psyduck uses Confusion, causing a wave to race towards Golduck. Golduck jumps onto the wave, and makes it change direction back onto Psyduck. The wave suddenly turns into a whirlpool, and the Magikarp Submarine appears! A net fires out from the submarine, netting Psyduck and Tentacruel. Marina sends out Starmie, and tells it to swim to the submarine. Golduck starts swimming to, and easily outpaces Starmie.

Team Rocket appear out of the submarine, and begin to say their motto, only for Golduck to throw them all back onto the beach! Meowth tells Ash that he must hand over Pikachu, before Marina gets her Pokemon back. Ash refuses, so Jessie sends out Arbok and tells it to use Poison Sting. Golduck suddenly jumps in the way, and uses Barrier, blocking the Poison Sting. It then uses Psywave, blasting Arbok into the air. Team Rocket run back into their submarine. Golduck uses Hyper Beam, which sends Team Rocket Blasting Off Again! Moments later, Golduck appears carrying Tentacruel and Psyduck.

Back to the battle. Marina sends out Starmie, who uses Tackle. Golduck sends out a Hyper Beam, but Starmie sends out a Barrier to block it. The Barrier smashes however, and the Hyper Beam hits Starmie! Starmie faints, and Misty has won the battle. Misty holds out her Pokéball to return Golduck... only for Psyduck to jump out! Misty is speechless, when Golduck sees three girls walking along the beach. It flexes its muscles, and starts running over. Marina realises that the Golduck was a wild one, who likes showing off. Misty agrees, and dubs it a "Pokémon version of Brock."

Ash later asks Psyduck where it was, and Misty realises that it must just have been resting in its Pokéball. Misty also notices that Psyducks tail isnt glowing any more. Marina congratulates Misty on being able to control a wild Pokemon without even capturing it, but Ash points out that since Misty battled with a Pokémon that wasnt hers, the battle didnt count. Misty tells Marina that as soon as Psyduck does evolve, shed like a rematch. But when will Psyduck ever evolve? ;D
