Ash catches a Snorlax.

Ash, Misty and Tracy arrive at the Seven Grapefruit Islands. On each island, hundreds of grapefruit grow. They decide to stop a while and check them out. Lapras heads for one of the islands - with Jigglypuff in hot persuit!

On the island they observe the trees filled with fruit and Ash picks a large grapefruit. Suddenly, they see a woman running towards them, shouting, "Stop, thieves!" They don't realise that she means them. When she confronts them, Tracy explains that they aren't thieves and the woman, whose name is Ruby, apologises. It turns out that the grapefruits are grown by her and a team of workers, not just naturally. She tells them about all the hard work that is put into growing the fruit.

A man runs up and tells Ruby that the real thieves have struck again on another part of the island. She runs off to try and catch them and the gang follow her. When they arrive they discover the thief is actually...a Snorlax! The men try to move the Snorlax but it brushes them off. Ruby decides that they must pick all the grapefruit before Snorlax can get to it. The Pokemon help, too: Bulbasaur Vine Whips them down and Staryu knocks them off as it spins past. At last, all the fruit is picked and put in a pile. Then there is a minor earthquake as Snorlax runs toward the pile of fruit, intent on eating it.Ash puts himself between Snorlax and the fruit but he just gets knocked out of the way.

Tracy suggests weakening Snorlax in a battle and then capturing it. Ash's Bulbasaur uses various attacks but none work. Eventually, Snorlax gets annoyed and uses Body Slam on poor Bulbasaur. Snorlax consumes all the grapefruit on the island. It stands on the beach waving it's arms around. Everyone wonders what it is going to do. It then jumps in the sea and starts doing the 'Blubberfly' stroke to the next island! They all thought the other islands would be safe, but it seems they are not. Ash and co. follow it to the second island on Lapras, while Ruby goes to warn the other islands to start picking all the fruit.

Meanwhile, on the second island Team Rocket are also pilfering grapefruit, but not to eat - to sell. They are going to make it into candied grapefruit peels. Snorlax lands on the island and starts eating all the the fruit that they picked. Ash and co. are close behind Snorlax and when they arrive they order Team Rocket to stop stealing. Ash sends out Squirtle to use a Skull Bash attack on Snorlax. Snorlax uses it's Body Slam again and flattens Squirtle.

Misty sends out Staryu to use Tackle, but Snorlax Headbutts it. She recalls Staryu and sends Goldeen, who Snorlax tries to eat. Misty quickly recalls Goldeen and tries to get Togepi to use Metronome, but of course, it does not work. Now it's Team Rocket's turn: Jessie's Arbok uses Poison Sting but is turned into a snake-skin belt by Snorlax, who uses the ever effective Body Slam. Lickitung tries a wrap attack, but Snorlax just wipes it mouth with Lickitung's long tongue.

James' Victreebel also gets the Body Slam treatment. Misty sends out Psyduck in the hope that it will use a Psychic attack, but all it does is swallow a grapefruit and choke. Pikachu's shock attacks also prove useless on Snorlax. Meanwhile, Ruby and her team are still picking as much fruit as they can. James tries to hynotise the large Pokemon but ends up sending himself to sleep instead! There are several other attempts to get Snorlax to go to sleep: a massage, counting Snorlaxes, pretending to be it's mother - they all fail. Team is blasted off due to the latter attempt, by a Mega Kick from Snorlax.

With most of the second island gone, Misty comes up with the idea that they should find Jigglypuff. At Ruby's headquarters they discover all the men asleep and guess that Jigglypuff must be somewhere nearby. Snorlax has started to make it's way to the third island. The kids have set up a stage for Jigglypuff as Snorlax arrives. Jigglypuff eventually appears and begins to sing. Ash and Pikachu shake off their sleepyness to battle Snorlax. The now sleepy Snorlax gets a taste of Pikachu's Thunder attack. It falls asleep, Ash takes his chance and throws a Pokeball. The light goes off and Snorlax is Ash's new Pokemon!

Ruby thanks Ash and his friends by giving them some candied grapefruit peels. A worker tells Ruby that there are new trees growing wherever Snorlax had eaten. Misty says that it shows something good can come out of something bad. Our heroes then set off on Lapras for their next adventure.
